How to Upgrade the Audio System in Classic Trucks | Kevin Tetz with LMC Truck

  • In this video Kevin Tetz shows you how to upgrade the audio system in a classic truck, particularly a 1973-1987 Chevy/GMC truck, to a RetroSound Model 2 system. This model will fit almost any vehicle without any dash cutting necessary, and provides modern features like bluetooth connectivity, four channel 25 watt amp and two USB inputs.
This installation requires basic hand tools and some soldering equipment. First, Kevin disconnects the battery and disassembles several pieces from the cab to gain access to wiring. Then he installs the speakers, amp and additional pieces of this project before reassembling the cab.

Putting a subwoofer in an old truck is a great way to find new rattles. Never forget to put a fuse in the power wire next to the battery that goes to your amplifier's. If not it's a good way to burn your truck down

@@K-Effect if the amp gets hot or overcharges it will pop the fuse on the amp. Also the same for powered subs, as long as your wiring is good it shouldn't "burn to the ground".

@@swiftlyswiv8227 If anything happens to that power wire running from the battery to your amplifier. If it gets cut, warn through, pinched etc. it’s going to ground out, and that power wire is going to get very hot like a coil on a toaster and start a fire. That’s one of the main reasons why you need to put a fuse right next to the battery. If your amplifier has fuses on it that won’t stop that from happening.

i never under stood why some people was so uptight about modding/cutting the dash for a good stereo ! But Some had rather buy over priced junk to get that crappy factory look ! but bigger & better speakers is a must in them old trucks ! i always just modded mine to fit any regular High end stereo & That was that But i always had trouble getting good speakers to fit because i am about 6'1 or so and my seat has to be all the way back..i cant drive if im setting on the wheal..lol. !

You didn't show the seat going back into the truck, and I tend to think that you had a helper for that. I recommend having a couple of cheap, soft movers' blankets like Harbor Freight sells to cover the speakers as the seat goes in. I would be an unhappy camper if I gouged any expensive part with the seat mount(s).
