In this video series, I am installing a vintage style radio into my 1977 Chevy squarebody C10 truck. This head unit is made by Retrosound and it is a direct bolt-in for this truck. It is completely digital and has RCA outputs for an amplifier and subwoofer. It has built-in bluetooth capabilities that work with Android and Apple iOS smartphones. This radio also has a USB connection for older MP3 players and iPods that do not have bluetooth.
Mounting this radio is a pain in the ass!!
After watching most of your videos, I can't say I always agree with you on all the choices youve made on this truck (Im doing a 77 GMC Sierra as well) but this is your truck(and I haven't made any videos - heh). But what I CAN say, is that man... your attention to detail and desire to get everything just right, and clean is amazing. Massive respect for you, and thank you for posting all of these. The rocker panel repair and wiring videos were really helpful to me when I was going through that. Excellent stuff.
Thank you for the kind words!
To viewers; be careful to mount the face the correct way on the radio body and not the way as in the video. The small stickers on the body MUST face upwards!
Also the bezel must be installed from behind of the dash opening, then it will fit properly.
You've probably heard this but the reason you had issues with the volume being on the wrong side is you put the face place on upside down. The "retro sound" logo needs to be facing up, and your's is facing down.
In addition to that, the shafts are backwards, the wire should come out the outside, not inside. This is in the manual and RetroSounds TS page. But I guess if the faceplate is upside down, the shafts being wrong would function in the normal directions on the opposite sides.
Great vid! Really helpful. Great tip with the back strap.
I'm glad you're doing this. I've seen these on eBay and thought about putting one in my truck, but didn't know what all that would entail. Too bad the chrome bezel won't fit in the factory bezel opening without shaving it. That alone might make me think twice before putting this radio in. Can't wait to see part 2!
You'll see in future videos that it's not difficult to get the little chrome bezel to fit.
Funny to see you on here too. I'm watching through all of your videos too farmboy30117!
Thanks!
excelente quedo muy bien como el original pero con nueva tecnologia. saludos.
Gracias!
Can I suggest you switch to a tilt steering column? Best investment on these old trucks, imo.
Great vid, what a pita
Love it! Keep up the great work on your truck, I've got an 83 you're doing a lot of the same things I'm trying to as well.
Thank you for watching!
Sweet video! My 73 dash is mangled, you got lucky on yours!
I did get luck with my dash
Hey bud does that stereo charge your phone as well? Thanks
Exelente me gustaria uno para conservar lo originall saludos desde Venezuela!!!
Gracias!
Did you need to remove the dash to get the old radio out?
are these the ones sold in the lmc truck magazines? If they are I've been looking at these myself lol glad to find a video on one.
LMC does sell a stereo similar to this one, but I do not know if it's made by Retrosound. There are several companies that produce vintage style car stereos.
ScoobyDigits yeah I think is the same one
I'm trying to find a stereo for my 68 Pontiac grand prix cant find shit
post part 2! lol
Should you have an older truck that was cut out for a modern single DIN head unit and you don't use CDs, this a good answer: Pioneer MVHX560BT Digital Receiver. I put one in my Suburban and use my iPod with it. No more radio, no more commercials and stupid disc jockeys.
bro I wish I could heard about that product before I cut open on my dash
Sorry man. Thanks for watching though!
Will this not fit if someone has cut up the dash. I couldn’t tell how the brackets mounted. Mine was cute open too 🙄
