Man after I bought my first custom keyboard last year, a lot of aluminum keebs like these are coming out and it’s making me hella jealous
same bro
Just strike what is your custom keyboard you built if you don't mind me asking
I assure you this corner of the market was in full swing a year ago. You just didn’t do your research lol.
Welcome to the hobby. My first aluminium custom was the Keychron Q2, it was way more expensive than the options we have nowadays like the Sugar65, Xinmeng A66, M67 etc. but nevertheless I do feel that these more expensive keyboards give a better feel when you touch the metal case. I sold it anyway at a decent price, and bought new ones, that's when I realized I'm going down this rabbit hole...
Which do you think should I go for, sugar65 or gmk67?
I really love how you are all about preference being at the heart of the hobby, and how the goal isnt just a deep sounding linear board with “thock”. I love your content, keep up the good work for as long as doing so is fun
I like your videos, bc they are informative and at the same time you keep remembering that these are your opinion and it may not overlap. But what I totally love is how they perfectly convey the cat owner experience..... Nola bitting the foam on the background, gettint tired of it and deciding to start another task.... On point.
I just bought a drop cstm80 because of ur short and stream where u talked about it. It’s my first mechanical keyboard and I want to thank you for making keyboard videos because they basically introduced me to the world of mechanical keyboards.
he looks like an english major
This video made me buy this keyboard. Having done absolutely nothing to it, and for $95 I could not be more impressed. Thank you Mr. Hippo man.
i agree that this is one of the nicest budget keebs on the market..... it sounds sooo damn good right out of the box
The "No Case Foam" stage sounded absolutely perfect to me 🤌
Just got my first mechanical keyboard earlier this week (fully assembled Keychron V6 w/ knob). Sounds pretty good already (minus the spacebar), but I'm gonna have to see if I can make it sound more like this.
Trick for better sounding spacebar is putting some poster putty into the underside of it equally on both sides. It will deaden the sound completely. You can do this for any keys that seem excessively noisy or have the wrong "ring" to them when typing. I'm curious what an entire keycap set deadened with poster putty would sound like.
just delivered, had bought after seeing your video, man it sound so good
probably the best keyboard in the market at price $95
I purchased this board a couple of weeks ago and I really like it. It was pretty good stock out of the box but now after a force feedback mod and changing out the switches to Morandies the sound and feel is now right in the sweet spot of my personal preference for sound and feel, plus the boards looks great and only $95 on Amazon.
got this board , its fantastic honestly. love the keycaps
Excellent video. Very thorough and well edited!
such a helpfull vid, keep up the work man
Just got this keyboard. i love how it sounds out of the box, and the colors. thanks for the recommendation
would you say that this was worth the 100 dollars? im thinking about getting it, and i want to know what other people think of it.
@@imamoocow4 In my opinion yes. I bought it a couple months ago and am still loving it. The software is good enough, but isn't an area of concern for me. The keyboard feels premium to me, Hipyo talked about the quality of the aluminum but I don't keep screwdrivers or other metal objects on my desk that can scratch my keyboard lol. At the end of the day it's all about preference but I think this keyboard sounds, feels, and looks amazing right out of the box.
@@gxr0ck yeah i ended up getting it and i really like it
Your videos gave me the confidence to take apart my keyboard. Now I get to buy a new one because I broke it.
This is just my assumption for why there are slot cuts in the case. But I think the slot cuts is to balance the weight from the battery on the opposite side. I'm assuming that the battery is lighter than the metal of the case.
interesting keyboard, would love a drunkdeer video. hall effect switches on a budget seems crazy
When i was entering custom keyboard hobby, i bought aula f75(i wish you will check on it, or even make review on it) but now I’m thinking to make custom keyboard 😀(thx to you for your channel)
The keycaps looks like my XVX profile keycaps from dagaladoo. They're a blend of XDA profile with the curve of cherry profile. I actually love this profile since I have large hands.
i think the stock sound is great😍
Thanks for the great vid. This is very first time that I like the stock sound better than your mod! haha.
The algorithm recommended your video while I was researching the NuPhy Gem80. The price point is crazy value! Ended up ordering the barebones kit for $70 with Chinese Near Year/Valentine's Day sale discounts
I definitely prefer it stock. Nice vid :)
This could be my next keyboard, dang. I would go stock, sounds the best to me. Top row incline looks interesting for sure lol.
I didn't know that the Fekee holy pandas were clones. I thought feker were the ones who made the holy pandas. I guess you learn something new, in this hobby everyday 😂😂
YOOO HIPYO, AMAZING VIDEO. CONGRATS ON HITTING 900K SUBSCRIBERS ASWELL🥳🥳🥳🤩
I just put together this keyboard tonight after work with some custom keycaps, I bought the barebones version and Akko cream yellow pro V3 switches and it sounds insane. Good pop from the keycaps and super thocky. I think I messed up my pcb a little in one spot because I can't get the right windows button to actuate, and I bent a few pins at first but this is my first "build" and I couldn't be happier. $90 in Canadian funny ducks for a pre assembled aluminum case/pcb/ dampening etc. is wild. side note the stabs are a bit overlubed but I'm sure that will be a self solving problem over time.
Great vid again Hipyo! Would love to see this compared to the HI75 and the Aula F75. The Aula feels so good to type on, I'm actually in love. Note the Aula F-series each has different switch offerings for the 75, 87, and 99
I have this built from it's barebones form and it is outstanding. I ended up using a mix of U4Ts and Epo Budgerigars for switches, and a set of Ghost Judges Apollo keycaps (stuck with the idea of the space theme). The result is is totally thocky, and very satisfying. It's a very heavy board, so those thinking this is good for travel, I'd look elsewhere, perhaps something like the Epomaker TH80SE with the purple keycaps and Budgerigar switches (I have this as well, and it's fantastic for travel purposes).
I bought this the day after its release and found no reviews, Thanks hipyo.
top review. the board sound good out of the box.
I think the definition of leaf spring has evolved with time. I think the Thermal was defined as leaf spring but it was mostly cuts in the alu plate to create the spring effect. I think the Kohaku is a leaf spring similar to Thermal. Nowadays I believe Owlab Spring, Link65, AM, etc. are all what we generally consider leaf spring.
Feker actual does make decent product and you can get the Galaxy from other vendors instead of Epomaker if you don't want to buy from a vendor that has questionable aftersales support. It's about 80 for the trimode and 70 for wired only for a kit without switches and keycaps.
I can see why some people like w/e sound that is with no foam, but that first audio clip that was pure stock I really liked that sound
Did you know the gmk87 came out? It'd be cool to hear your thoughts on it. It's a gasket mounted tkl with a flex cut polycarb plate. It also has a knob and an oled screen
I just got this keyboard and I love it. Can you recommend a shine through keycaps? The keycaps are good, but I worked in the dark a lot and not having shine through keycaps is difficult for me. Thank you.
I got the barebones kit in purple for $54. Worth every penny.
man i honestly really enjoyed this one stock the most
What do you think compared to the rainy 75?
just bought one of these guys in blue and am super happy with it. Hoping to swap out the caps then switches later down the line once my wallet recovers from buying this lol. Also as a heads up for anyone seeing this comment now, Amazon has these for sale at 100 dollars with a 20 dollar off coupon, I think the grand total I paid for mine after shipping and tax was a little less than 90 bucks.
This keyboard is my first one and man is it almost perfect. I wish there was more resistance on my keys and maybe a bit quieter but thats it!
Great thing is the keys are hot swappable so you can change them to your liking.
Nice keyboard. To me it sounds best stock.
just ordered one just because of your video
After going way down the rabbithole that is mechanical key contraptions to the very extreme I can honestly say that the best sounding and the best feeling/functioning keyboard are rarely ever two in the same. Case in point *no pun intended* the most functional keyboard I have that keeps my RSI in check is the Feker Alice 80 67% split ergonomic keyboard with mostly Chinese clone parts feels the very best and sounds the worst. Just my 2 cents.
ive used a feker board before, the ik75 about a year ago, and it was wuite good for a $80 plastic board
congrats on 900k
Quick question about this keyboard: does it still work if you disconnect the battery and connect the keyboard to your PC with the cable? I'm considering buying this keyboard, but I'm not a fan of wireless keyboards because of the batteries since those will degrade over time. Thanks!
I love the color of the keycaps but I think they are to low and have to sharp edges.
Any recommendations for beautiful keycaps that fit the black Epomaker x Feker?
And thanks for making me addicted to mechanical keyboards... I used to be a solid Logitech MX user.... and now I have got 4 mechanical keyboards :)
I’d really love to see you try resin 3D printing keycaps
Hi, thx for sharing! Can I ask if there are other epomaker keyboards that bear the same or even more complicated structure (5-layer gasket like Galaxy 80)? Because their website doesn't indicate each keyboard's structure. And do you think that is the best stock Epomaker keyboard? Thanks in advance! Anyone is welcome to answer!
Those keycaps look like they might be XVX profile caps. All the legends look damn near identical to the sets I have as well as the profile and key shape.
I just built this in a bare bones with glorious pandas some double shot pbt caps and it's pretty good
Hey, what's your top 3 TKL?
Finally someone else besides me who rubs a screwdriver against my keyboard daily just to scratch it 🤨
The switches will be amazing after lubing them. People should try
If you had to get a sk71 or galaxy80, which one would you prefer? Looking at these two as the options as I prefer black keyboards but the black sk71 has some issues of getting dirty
You should make a video a video about Epomaker x Aula 75 keyboard. I think it is a really good keyboard for its price range a truly a budget king.
Stock sounds best to my ears👍
Just got one. Waiting for WS Morandis to arrive.
What gaming keyboard would you reccomend for a 60aud budget?
Wow, the case is aluminium and stock sounds awesome... but you're right, it all depends on the combination of all the parts!
My tiny bit of experience so far is that a LOT depends on the key caps; the material/production process that can make the keys harder or softer on the bottoming-out and return, and the height makes it sound more hollow or shallow.
Ngl it’s kinda cool when he releases a new video and a lot of people view it
Not bad. Seems like a decent Feking keyboard for the price.
If you scratch the keycaps with your nail, it might be leaving filings on the key rather than scratches. Try cleaning them with a mild cleaner and see if they go away.
The keycap profile looks like XVX to me (a supposed blend of Cherry and XDA). I currently have XVX on my Q11 and actually quite like it.
Hipyo I would really like to see a video of you trying the ZSA Moonlander MK1
Nice b-roll of the switch opening indeed
would morandi switches make this keyboard "thockier" and overall just better or i guess it's all preference? >.>
This looks like an alu copy of my Aula F87 Pro, or my Aula is a plastic copy of this one. I have the same keycaps only in white/dark/green. Great video !
Nice video once again :). Although I have to ask, can you make a video where you mod the YUNZII AL71? I'm planning to get this keyboard for my birthday and nobody really made a video on modding this thing. It has aluminium case and also is a gasket mounted keyboard. I am planning to put the almighty tape mod on it but maybe you could experiment some other mods for it?Maybe?M a y b e ?
2:37 Looks pretty embossed to me. Probably just a mold, but looks the same from the top, where it's important.
I guess side-backlit legend keycaps would be needed if wanted backlit keycaps as normal one would not work as well unless you have switches with clear stems and housing.
They’re very similar to Akko black and cyan keycaps
Would you recommend this keyboard or the womier s-k71
I went from a razer keyboard to the keychron C3 PRO and I love it. The keyboard is mikes ahead of my razer.
I do plan on building my own this year and your videos have been helpful. I really want shine through keycaps and I plan on building an all white board
they improve the paint now with 'Pro' version which seems the same in every other respect according to vendor info on Aliexpress.
This keyboard is working well for me if it was 2x or 3x the price it would still be very good indeed.
Are you going to try the qk60? thank you 😊
I am new to the custom keboard world and am looking at getting my first. I want to build it myself but I need one I will actually use. I want a kit with a numpad, a knob, and a screen. Does anyone have any kit recommendations?
Great video and a great channel 👍
Does anyone have any experience migrating from ISO to ANSI? How painful is it?
Hey hippo I have an idea for a video. What if you try to make a 60% keyboard out of 1% keyboards it would be cool to see!
This video led me to buying this keyboard
Hippyo check out the feker Alice 98 next. Feker is a hidden gem in the keyboard community
Can you try the Atlanits Pro Keyboard from Lamzu, the specs look incredibly for the price
Um, this is probably not a good place to ask but im building my first ever keyboard. I am using a Polycarbonate plate and decided not to use plate foam. When I put the PCB(tape mod and has 1 layer of PE foam) and the plate together and put back on the skirt(required to assemble the keyboard), the bottom row of the plate keeps getting pushed down by the skirt causing the switches to pop up. And even with plate foam, the plate still get pushed down(still only the bottom row) Pls someone that has experience help pls!!!
yo can u do a review from the yunzii yz75 i know you made a short but not a whole video about it so can you please make a review from it or make it a custom keyboard?
I know most comments get lost in the mix. But I have been in the luxury automotive industry for 25 years. And I have customers complain about the way the keys on high-end cars sound. When doing this repair, it is always amazing to hear the customers reaction. But all I have ever used is HOCKEY TAPE. Give it a shot and let me know what you think.
Those random cutouts look like they're there for weight balance, I imagine something inside made it feel heavier on that side so they cut some material out from that end of it.
Anyone notice Nola licking the foam in 12:20?
Will the stock configuration sound thockier if I use SA or MT3 keycaps?
Could you do the retro xvx keyboard or shadow? It’s a really great keyboard with a oled screen
Sounds exactly like my Epomaker RT100 with gateron yellow switches.
The color way looks similar to LightCycle-themed keycaps or modern Dolch/Umbra
I just noticed that you type the same way as me--mostly only using your index finger on your right hand. I blame gaming and swapping to the mouse frequently making me less proficient with right hand-typing,
After building my first pc I find this video. I didn’t even know you build your own keyboard it never occurred to me that’s just something you can just do.
I was thinking of buying this keyboard. But now after watching this I’m not sure, so should i still buy it?
Three years ago, an aluminum keyboard for the same price had no flex cuts, no foam, awful stabs, and the sound could wake up the dead. I got into the hobby at the wrong time ☹ I know why you removed the foam, Hipyo: to let Nola chew it, right? 😅
Those keycaps look like clones for the Akko Black&Cyan but flat profile
I would like you to review the Hi75 with Nimbus Switch.
i love how hipyo says the keyboard is “budget” but it actually costs more than my net worth
Would we say this keyboard is better or worse than the rainy75?
Honestly, I love this! I love keyboards that 'ping' but that's just me and my ADHD being weird. But what I find frustrating is finding a keyboard I love, it says "RGB" and on the site it shows alllll these color combos you can do but then, when you get it, there's like maybe six and no way to customize them. So that's my pet peeve. And as I don't have the hip new Apple iPhone (can't afford it), I'm stuck using a Walmart special $100ish Android which can barely handle Facebook and recently, due to 'lack of storage space' (wait wut), stopped updating even that x'D So know I can do this, at the bare minimum, is a relief!
