Just bought an ALAN1 yoke last week along with their NEW ARCADE1UP adapter, its still in transit, delivery schedule for next monday, can't wait to convert this baby ! hope this will improve my unit and make it indestructible for the next 15 years !
Did u fit it to the 1up if so did u follow there instructions on how to fit it or fit it yourself as want to get one but been in uk fittings they show u are hard to get hold of over here as there really odd size fittings does it feel like it will hold up for time on the control panel ?
sweet! i'm still wondering what alan-1 is supposed to make for the arcade1up cabinet. another plug and play interface? longer studs to mount to the A1up control panel? they dropped the price of the yoke and made another big order because of some deal with arcade1up. supposedly for an upgrade kit you could buy. now i only want to know if you can swap the monitor, then i may think about gutting an arcade1up and install that into the star wars cabinet i'm building. :)
I didn't hear that but that would certainly be cool. They would need to sell it pre-mounted to the CP because it needs quite a bit of modification in order to fit onto the stock 1up Control Panel. I was hoping it was going to be a bit easier.
@@RetroRalph i've had some conversations with james (mydentist) on klov when i got my yoke and adapter, then some after i showed him his yoke on their machine. he talked to them and posted that they made a deal, and so he was ordering another batch of yokes, and because of the deal with arcade1up, he was able to lower the price to everyone on his yoke. but when i saw the build videos, i thought, there's no way his will plug and play. so i don't know what's going on. i hope they didn't screw him over.
The original songs, that's why I'm here. Seriously though, the yoke has probably been the most talked about piece of this unit. As soon as this was announced, a lot of the arcade scene people began speculating as to how it would compare to the repro on the market...and here you are!

I have had a hard time getting in touch with them. It would seem like they would want to have that ready at launch to maximize impact. Do you know how to get in touch with them?

Hi Ralph Do you think it would be possible to build a Retro Star Wars full cockpit, utilising the Star Wars 1up internals, custom monitor with the Alan Yoke?
I played this game as a kid back in the mid-80's and bought the Arcade1Up version about 1.5 weeks ago. Although the stock yoke is made of plastic and a little stiff, it actually moves pretty well. I was also thinking about upgrading to an Alan-1 yoke at some point, until I took the dust cover off and saw everything is glued on (as you also pointed out). If I decide to upgrade, I may want to mail the entire control panel to them and have them reinstall the new yoke.
I did some research on Alan 1 Star Wars yoke while back before Star Wars Arcade 1up came out. I was debating do I buy the Arcade 1up or Alan 1 SW yoke? I already have a full size MAME cabinet, the Alan 1 SW yoke has a USB connector, it's supposed to work right out of the box for MAME. So far I'm leaning towards the Arcade 1up, I love the SW replica cabinet.
great video. Definitely going to pick this up pretty soon before I cannot find it anymore. Just got in the Street Fighter Head to Head table, and it is glorious. Couldn't ask for a better layout, and the games are grrrrreat!!!
Cool Mod! I know it’s overkill but I’ve been wondering about the same thing by modding the Arcade 1Up with the arcade replica by Alan-1. I wasn’t sure it would fit because the gearing system is pretty long. I also wish there was a 3D models of the arcade cabinet bevels around the screen to print from. But a cool mod to see. :)
It fits but not without modifying the control panel. This would be a great one to get someone like Shane over at DIY retro arcade to produce so it's a bit more of a drop-in solution.
The Alan 1 guys came out to Grinkers last year and had their yoke installed on a SW cockpit.... They had a tournament and gave away one of the first production yokes
At some point in the future when the cabinets are no longer available, I hope that a plug-and-play/drop-in option is available for purchase. Considering the popularity of the cabinet, hopefully that makes good business sense. Because there is no way I'm pulling this shit off myself. lol
Had my eye one Star Wars A1up cabinet because of the unique control. Was waiting for a sale on it. Kind of disappointing that it's not the best flight yoke.
Retro Ralph yeah but on a more serious note, with only vaguely remembering what the original SW Arcade yoke felt like, would it be worth the price of admission on top of the $500 1up arcade? Eye of the beholder and relative funding I suppose, but I am just wondering if I’ll initially be disappointed in the stock plastic yoke this Christmas. Thanks for sharing though, Brother!
Hi Ralph and thanks for all of your videos! Really appreciate it and am a huge star wars fan and can't wait to get this Star Wars machine. But like the two other Arcade1Up's I have, I would love to be able to MOD this unit with either a RaspberryPi or even a PC. Based on your findings with the machine, will the stock flight yoke or the new fancy flight yoke be able to work with the button encoders or plug directly via USB into the PC or Pi. It that will work I can see this unit being able to play all of the star wars games including the Star Wars Trilogy series and maybe even some driving games like Road Blasters and Spy Hunter, etc.
Goddam Yoy just stole my idea !! :) now i'm gonna have to do the same and built a sitdown cabinet just to go a bit further :) Oh well never thought that mod would have been done so quickly, sorry i underestimated your skills :) Very impressive nice job. In fact it looks a lot more complicated than i thought it would be. My plan was to play with the stock yoke for a while and replace it with the ALAN1 maybe next year or when i get through the stock one. I'll keep your vids for future reference, if you can ever make a more explicit video on how to mod the cab with an ALAN1 yoke, please do so. I will probably do the same mod sooner or later. Nicely done !
No, it's not at all. This was one of those "just cause" things. It's worth the investment if you need to upgrade your original Star Wars cab though :-)
Whatever company steps up and can make this upgraded yoke a plugnplay is going to sell a shit ton of them....im happy with arcade1ups but if i can get an upgrade im in!! Now what company is going to make this happen!!!

For that price, one could buy a 3d printer (Ender 3) and print your own. Even use an Ultramark A-PAC or Arduino UNO for the interface, but no denying the ALAN-1 Yoke screems quality.
Wow great job spot on exactly one of the things I am thinking of doing (your singing however is awful). First while I think A1up did a fine job on the yoke I did note after several months of play (apx 70 hours) discover two issues. 1) the x axis can and will squeak .. I put sprayed plastic safe lithium grease on the connecting collar only . You CAN do that by taking off the dust cover with the atari logo and spray under the main assembly. Just around the tube, thats the only x axis moving piece and after the lube penetrates your good to go. DON'T take the x axis apart if you can avoid it. If the spring snaps out of position while you screwing around its a pain to heal it! 2) y axis gets sloppy .. the metal edges of the torsion spring make a depression after alot of play. against each of the two plastic support points. You will note that moving the y handle up and down WITHOUT moving the spring will have quite a bit of cross hair movement up and down .. sloppy and a poor design point here. I did have to get mechanical and strip down the control. I cladded ONE of the plastic support points in thin sheet metal (don't do both that cause more trouble than it's worth!) Do the plastic support point that is NOT next to the mechanical stop (wedge shape). The point you want to clad is isolated and you'll see it. If you do this Its returns the game to a much tighter play. (no slop) Bottom line the full plastic A1up is probably not going to give you years of star wars entertainment (btw is is just me or is ESB super lame). SO I think that integrating in the ALAN-1 is a good idea. But it's all about how much you love the game and your budget. Im completely hooked and to me starting at $450 is awesome. I don't mind doubling my investment to keep playing down the road. Also if you have to explain to anyone (yourself included) why you're probably not reading this. I am also thinking if I do that why not chuck the gizzards supplied by Alan-1 and the code mystics and slap in a MAME with a small old laptop, in an awesome 3/4 scale cabinet! There are advantages here ..you can then have a pause button not having a pause is killing me. When I'm on a hot game it can take 2 hours of play .. (starting 9 / 3 bonus. .. shields) .. which blows. Also MAME allows you to start at a different point in the GAME say 4 or 7 million as well thus breaking the mario effect. You can also take snapshots of play ... Also I hope we can all agree that while ESB may or may not be a great game return of the JEdi .. totally blows chunks. Now that is just my opinion but I'm sticking to it. May the force be with you all esp retro Ralph.
Most people who buy an Arcade 1-Up cabinet do so because they want the least amount of messing about to get a half way decent retro experience. It's a cool mod but it's overkill for that cabinet. One mod I'd do is get rid of that blue edging round the cabinet, Totally non authentic. It should be black. The bezel looks really cheap and tacky too.... but the yoke is the star and I have to agree they did really good to remake that for the money.
It was kind of just something fun to do, there’s really nothing wrong with the stock yoke... I wouldn’t expect anyone else to do this. Just one of those fun things to show people what’s possible.
