  • GRS Flight Yoke - Replacement for Arcade1Up, Original, or Modded Arcades!
    GRS Flight Yoke on Amazon: amzn.to/3onisD7
    UPDATE Unfortunately it has been revealed that due to issues beyond control the retail price will be $265 and not $200 as originally planned.
    All Kickstarter backer flight yokes have shipped and are currently in transit. This flight yoke also works well with the new Star Wars Squadrons game!
    The traditional ATARI Arcade Yoke controller back in 1983 used potentiometers to generate control output for the Star war arcade machine. It was made with a combination of complex machining parts and mechanisms. This includes having to use a gear drive mechanism, potentiometers and a complex wiring harness design. The GRS Flight Yoke uses a complete redesigned mechanism, overcoming the limitation of the original design. The GRS design includes the following:
    1. Non-contact mechanical structure with magnetic sensing technology to drive the Yoke controller.
    2. No gears, no potentiometer. Maximize precision, durability and the stability of the yoke controller.
    3. Support new games!! ( Elite dangerous, STAR WARS: SQUADRONS etc.)The GRS Flight Yoke uses the standard USB interface. It will be recognized as gamepad controller on Windows/Linux/Raspberry Pi and can be used in any emulation platform that supports an analog joystick or mouse with 6 independent buttons including the functional buttons. So it’s more than just a yoke controller.
    4. Physical Inertia Centering mechanism, a more accurate result and less re-calibration needed for the analog joystick.
    5. 2 Buttons + 2 Triggers + 2 Functional Buttons (6 total) are recognized as Independent gamepad controller buttons.
    6. Complete metal structure is used(handle grips are made with high strength hardened engineering plastic).
    7. Mouse mode: Allow more game flexibility. The GRS Yoke can be used for games that use a mouse over an analog joystick.
    8. Vertical direction reverse switching: Allow user to switch the direction of pitch without digging into the input configuration.
    9. Arcade1UP Star War Arcade ready. Arcade Quality replacement yoke for your Star War Arcade1UP.
    10. ATGames Legends Ultimate compatibility via USB port with Mouse or gamepad joystick mode.
    11. Commercial Arcade Compatibility. Potentiometer signal output.

      How would you say the response is vs. The stock yoke? It's tough to tell in the vid, but it looks like the movement response is slightly delayed. I.e. you move the yoke, then a half second or so later you see the character on the screen move.

    • @mindofarobot414
      @mindofarobot414 3 роки тому

      @@TFfanG1 That would depend on the settings in your game. For MameUI, for instance, I found the default dead zone would do that because it had to travel before doing anything. Once set to .05 or less, it works terrific. I've used it with a number of PC games now and it works really well. Star Wars Starfighter is pretty nice. I used to own a ROTJ arcade cabinet, and having owned it for several years, I can say this version is superior my view. The original was built to withstand abuse, but this one is built to play well, and the USB functionality is great. Unless you were replacing an arcade unit that was going to be in commercial use, I'd go with this one every time.

      I get 3 dislikes every video I post within the first few minutes from a few dedicated haters. It’s comical because I presume they think it negatively impacts a video’s performance. But in reality UA-cam treats likes and dislikes both as the same type of engagement, so in reality their petty actions do nothing but help my videos get to more people. 😆

    Thank you for this review. I just found out about this, and have been wanting to build my own Star Wars arcade for well......40 years or more? For the last ten years or more, I've been trying to find an Actual SW Arcade yoke, and as you pointed out, originals are easily $500 for a refurbished on eBay - and that is a maybe if it is complete. The Arcade1 is an obvious choice, but I couldn't buy one when they first came out, and now they are gone and the new versions with the 'seat' are almost all gone as well. And besides, I wanted to build my own. I'm so glad to hear about this, and so glad it's available on Amazon - and once again - not having gotten one yet, I SOOO appreciate the review you did which not only answered all my existing questions, you covered bases I wasn't even aware of - so thank you so much. I'm definitely going to buy one this next payday, and FINALLY start building my Star Wars Arcade cab. Whoo!! Thanks brother. .....May The Force Be With You.....Always.....

    Yes, Arcade1up's stock yoke is fantastic, so did I need the Glen's Retro Show yoke? No. But Glen's done so much for the retro gaming community, and saved the day for me with his spinner, that I wasn't going to let him down, doing my part to make his yoke a reality. His spinner made my buyers remorse for Arcade1up's Atari 12 in 1 fade away and I now have an AMAZING Tempest machine! His yoke will be in my arsenal just in case my Arcade1up Star Wars one wears out on me :)
    Thank you again CoolToy for all your great content!

    Ok My name is rick and I am a star wars addict (.. hi rick). That means I beat the snot out of the yoke and play at least an hour to two a day. After a year of that the stock yoke does degrade significantly. Also I agree the yoke held up for a year and did a fantastic job. You can only get so much from plastic. So I will be getting this (and somehow hide the purchase from my long suffering wife who hates this game). Just saying that for someone who regularly scores between 3 - 6 million with the TGMS, this is a have to have (only boasting a little but also qualifying). MTFBWY!!!

    Hey Cooltoy, love the channel! I have a quick question about the Yoke. In the Kickstarter campaign there was mention of “a simple P&P solution to enable the GRS yoke to be fully compatible with these great home arcade systems.” So will this work with the ALU fully? I ask here because this is the latest vid I know of for this. GLEN DO A VID FOR US KICKSTARTER BACKERS!! Alan 1 has the arcade 1up controller, + their own yoke , which works flawlessly with Star Wars a1up pcb (i know because i bought one). you shlould at least compare both.

    • @cooltoy
      @cooltoy  3 роки тому +2

      The Alan-1 yoke is $350, then an additional $99 for their Arcade1Up adapter from their site, so in all you are looking at $450 to be able to “compare” it with this GRS yoke at $200. Which to me, tells you everything you need to know. I can’t fathom there are too many people willing to pay the original $499 asking price of the Star Wars Atari cabinet and then drop another $450 on the Alan-1 yoke/Arcade1Up adapter combo, when you can do more for less with the GRS yoke without sacrificing performance.

    • @longann7560
      @longann7560 3 роки тому

      @@cooltoy Granted, the GRS seems like a much cheaper alternative. But how does it technically compare to the Alan1 (despite the cost) that's what i'd really like to know. I agree Alan1 is much more expensive no question there but i assure you, you get the true and definitive experience and feel the yoke was meant to offer. I can tell you right away, on my first playthrough with the Alan1 yoke, I did beat my highest score even before properly recalibrating the yoke. (And i play my unit a lot) Compare to the A1up yoke, its day and night trust me. Its much more precise since you have aluminium gears inside, sturdy as hell for the next 25 years, and you can perform faster movements with much more precision compare to the plastic A1up yoke running on springs grinding on plastics. I would have to try the GRS to compare but unfortunately, i won't be buying one just to do that. So I guess i did purchased the most expensive alternative, (no regrets so far though) but when i bought in august i didn't know about GRS. Also i'm not sure i wouldn't consider Alan1 if i had to choose, I purchased Alan1 to bring my unit as close to the original arcade game as possible and that's what i have now, i'm 47 this machine is my childhood dream come true so i didn't care about the money. If you ever have a chance to review the ALAN 1 too, I would very much like to have your opinion on how they compare. Maybe a future video ? :) Cheers !

      there is a company called 99livesarcade that makes custom control panels for arcade. I know they were looking into making something to mount this yoke to that would possibly be interchangeable or modular with some arcade control panels. You may reach out to them and see if they have an update or an idea for you to allow you to use this without making a major modification to your existing control deck.

    All am very happy to see this GRS yoke but I am esp interested in how well this plays with star wars mame. I have tried my very own cobble of a UHID from ultimarc and the arcade 1up yoke. Its not bad but no way can I play like I can on the existing A1up fixture. So has anyone played GRS on star wars mame (via usb on windows) and gotten anywhere near 3 - 10+ million? I ask not to be judgy or confrontational, but a lot of times it appears that the game is often secondary to some of these very slick and cool presentations. Im almost finished with a retro 8020 rig and I really want to stop fiddling about. Will this GRS get the job done on star wars mame?! Would be most grateful for any feedback on this.

    • @raweth1
      @raweth1 3 роки тому

      Ok my pc is pretty substandard, so backing down the version of mame to several years back fixed the issue(non GRS yoke). I also had to dial back the speed to 0.94 to match the speed of the arcade 1up cabinet (pc was way too fast out of the gate). Many more trials and tribulations await .. but the rig can move ahead. Also on TGMS of 6/1 hard.

    @cooltoy -- have you gotten this to work with RetroPie/StarWars? I can not get it to not go full tilt on turning.

      I don’t use raspberry pi’s so I can’t speak to that. Glen has said it works fine with them so you may want to reach out to him for details

      This yoke was originally backed by a Kickstarter campaign. All of the backers will be receiving theirs shortly. Once that is done, the general public will be able to purchase this from Amazon ideally in a month or so according to Glen.

      @@adamcartermi5 both are made from high quality components. This GRS yoke has a different internal technology than the Alan-1 uses, and is compatible with many more set ups straight out of the box than the Alan-1, and is $150 cheaper.
