I recently bought the Tron cabinet and the S panel mod. I would really love to do what you did with the video screen and BigBox games added, but I’m not sure I could without instructions. Having those additional light cycle games and Tempest would be awesome! Might you do a tutorial video? I’m less concerned with the controller mods, just how to connect to the Arcade1up CPU without screwing it up.

Thanks for some new tips.my problem i have now is that BIG BOX has this issue with monitors assignments where depends on certain monitor combo you use, the monitor 1 and 2 are switched from from what windows originally assigned to. So if windows asign monitor 1 and monitor 2 , BIGBOX will switch it around. I tried like 5 diff monitors combo and its acting up with certain monitor and not others. For my software, i just did some reskin of KONG Starcade that I got from him.
You can go into the BigBox Options menu and, in General, you can tell it to always use specific monitors for the main screen and marquee screen: drive.google.com/file/d/1TD6-W9xLcnRCJM9ebaTbVI95ZNGTReJW/view?usp=sharing

Just bought an Encom coin door, but I'm kind of on the fence on doing the translite mod. I think it looks nice, the work by RnSKSkunkwerks looks great (got their coin door mod) but my own personal taste, I feel like the angle of the S panel isn't right for it, in comparison to the original cab where it's more of a window looking out. I think I'm fine with their being nothing up there.
My big gripe is the reflection of the LEDs on the screen. I put a thin piece of black plastic in front of it so that it doesn't do that anymore. I have an actual Tron and am disappointed in the 1up stick comparatively, hoping an aftermarket comes out soon. I wasn't expecting 1 for 1, but it really feels value engineered. I am looking for a DOT, this is a placeholder until I can find a good one, but I would like that solid feel of the stick in the interim.
Appreciate this information. I do have a question. How does your GRS spinner function during game play with your build? My original spinner died and I’m out of my warranty period. Replaced it with the GRS and stock A1U board and at the lowest setting it’s way too sensitive for the family to play. When I asked Glenn about this the lowest setting available is restricted due to the A1U board. Guessing there is a way to adjust this sensitivity in MAME from what I researched. After this vlog and Kongs I’m ready to complete a PC Build very soon. Congrats for the recent full size arcade adds. Found a gutted Space Invaders on the side of the road and turned it into a 60-1. Know what your saying about people getting nasty on forums about modding originals. Had a guy come after me about my SI. Have always been more of a electromechanical arcade collector. Had 17 and went down to 9 over the years. Mostly to add video to my arcade collection. Lastly have GRS flight stick installed with button and love the quality even through its somewhat smaller. i just got my tron 1up. still in the box in the kitchen ,definitely adding the mcp monitor mod to cabinet but is the spinner mod that good of a quality to replace original? Great mod. I'd love this cab just for the looks, but still can't shell out $700 PLUS all the mods! Also, just a tip for your vids... get an app like Teleprompter and use it right on top of your camera it at least makes you look like you're talking to the camera rather than staring at your notes off to the right side.

This is awesome. I just got my tron game. But my joystick feels like there's sand in it. Sometimes I have to force it. Didn't look smooth like yours. Did you replace that? And everything else on this is awesome. I wish I could do it.
im trying to get a tron 1up cabinet and add other games to it. I really like what you did but im not really trying to have a pc built into it. Are there any pcb's that i can buy with tron and many other games? Im new to this so anything will be helpful.

I would always recommend someone at least try before paying someone else to build for you. Basic stuff like setting up MAMAE and playing with alternate/upgraded controls can be done on any PC. you can get the hang of it before you get all into unplugging parts and drilling holes
first make sure you have the latest version of Launchbox. As this ability was only added in October 2021 then go to you Launchbox folder then Videos then go to the correct platform folder for the game in question (example: Arcade) Then open the Marquee folder save your video file here and just make sure it has the same file name as the game in question
@@Brad-D looks like everything is in place. Using latest version of Launchbox. Marquee images display fine. Just can't get video playback on 2nd monitor. Tried removing everything but video and rearranging media priorities in Launchbox settings. I'll keep at it. I Love what you did here and I'm building my Tron MAME pretty close to your specs. I’d like to find out how you make that space paranoids front end look so easy. The only time I tried it, it required all sorts of hackery. (Had to run a web server, edit hosts file, etc). I’m not overly familiar with the front ends you are using. I had limited success (none) finding any info on searches to locate and setup the software side like you have it.
My front-end is BigBox. I'm using a local instance of unity player to run Space Paranoids. I then have an ahk script / joytokey handle the rest. BigBox is just set to launch that AHK script I could do a video detailing it if there's interest.

Great question! The original four buttons in the arcade were for impulse, warp, phasers, torpedos But it didn’t have a push pull spinner or a joystick, so I’m able to use those to fill in the missing buttons. On the TRON cab I have it configured as follows: Trigger: phasers Thumb button: torpedoes Push up/forward on the stick: impulse Pushing down the spinner: warp

Can you tell me which keys to map the GRS spinner to in Mame for the PUSH/PULL in Discs of Tron. I just bought the GRS spinner and so far it's a no go. 😞
Launch Discs of Tron in mame then hit tab and go to Input (This Machine) Then go down to Aim Down, hit enter, then push down on the GRS spinner. This should register as Mouse B0 Then go down to Aim Up, hit enter, then pull up on the GRS spinner. This should register as Mouse B1
@@Brad-D Already tried that. I select Aim Up and Pull Up on the spinner it won't map. (3 little dots) I select Aim Down it looks Iike it maps. But when I go back into the game the spinner doesn't work. Cross Hairs don't move. What version of mame are you using?

Ok... I did some experimentation. It's either because my cab is running Windows XP or it's my version of Mame. I have had the same computer in it probably since 2008 running mame from back then as well. I plugged the spinner in my laptop which is windows 10 running current version of Mame. It maps fine. It’s been great! And nope, the control mapping is holding strong. MAME will sometimes re-order multiple controllers after a reboot (swap player 1 & 2 for example) You can fox this by mapping a ctrl re-map file for mame But since There’s only one set of controls in this cab (one USB encoder) there is no need for it

I put these all on my Big box racing build which is right next to the tron cab so its kinda sorta all together in one place. I may eventually do the mod . I'm a bit scared of breaking that tron flight stick though with all these games . I may wait until they have replacement stock or other options. Wanted to ask you also if you had a tip to get the background for disks of tron Mame to work . I set it to environmental and I think set everything to Ok in Mame menu.Was able to get a cool marquee working but no luck on background
Are the LED panels and display being controlled by the rewired on/off switch or is that switched exclusively used for the PC now? If so, how are you powering on the display and LEDs? Wonderful work, by the way. I just got mine and look forward to doing this mod. Thanks for posting this.
the on/off switch on the control panel is just wired to the PC's power switch. The rest of the cab (monitor, lights, etc.) powers on and off with a power strip. I'm using a smart strip in my arcade so I can power all my cabs on via an app or Alexa
Great stuff Brad. Was that scanlines I noticed on the Space Harrier vid you showed? If so, was that set automatically by BigBox or did you have to set it yourself? Thanks in any event. Also, I think you mentioned you added Glen's D.o.T control--did you keep the stock A1up spinner top or was that included w/his product since the image looked like it comes w/a black top? I do hope Glen gets into making replacement decks altogether for an all-in one solution for each gen of A1up's (makes it friendly to add almost any stick since I'd like to try adding an iL stick) :) .

I use a program called joytokey to translate joystick inputs to the corresponding keyboard commands

Great stuff Brad. Was that scanlines I noticed on the Space Harrier vid you showed? If so, was that set automatically by BigBox or did you have to set it yourself? Thanks in any event. Also, I think you mentioned you added Glen's D.o.T control--did you keep the stock A1up spinner top or was that included w/his product since the image looked like it comes w/a black top? I do hope Glen gets into making replacement decks altogether for an all-in one solution for each gen of A1up's (makes it friendly to add almost any stick since I'd like to try adding an iL stick) :) .
The scanlines are a filter added in MAME.

Awesome job, beautiful cab. I thought Star Trek and Space Harrier were both originally played in a horizontal orientation? Did you resize them or use a custom rom for vertical play?
They are re-sized to fit by MAME. All you have to do is go to the Main Video Options (in MAME not in-game) and turn off Enforce Aspect Ratio
@@Brad-D Wow, I didn't know you could do that. I have a few horizontal spinner games on my vertical cab, and they look odd, doing this may help. It that option only in certain versions of MAME?
