I’d like to make a small correction about the P90 (and MP7 by extension) and it being developed to penetrate Russian body armor.
Shortly after I said this, old documents from the NATO pdw trials were released detailing that penetration of hard body armor was never a goal of the PDW trials. Mostly the goal was to find a low recoil, high velocity replacement for 9mm. There are two videos by Oxide and 9hole reviews on this subject that are very informative.
At the time, the info about it “being able to penetrate hard armor” as a design goal was correct, but new info disproves this, and I was wrong. However, both 5.7 and 4.6 AP rounds are capable of penetrating soft body armor, though I cannot speak to the effectiveness, as I have not tested it personally.
Also: Magnum Research is located in Minnesota, not Wisconsin. Whoops, lol
It's okay, Zach, we forgive you...
If it isn’t too much to ask, could you link the videos in a reply?
It’s hard to temper Cold War era trivia
Literally unwatchable!
I suggest that you should have Mike pin this comment.
Funfact: in the concept art for fallout 4 it says "pipe guns were designed to look like they were made by someone who knows nothing about guns but wanted to make guns." This is not a joke
I 100% believe that Bethesda never considered that somebody who doesn't know anything about guns probably wouldn't be able to build anything close to functioning
Or the fact that the gun would explode with the calibers they use
They must've applied that concept to every other weapon in the game
@@slipinoy the concept art is extremely enlightening
Sadly, we don't operate on Warhammer Ork logic so most of these unholy abominations would have just exploded or jammed after the first round (if some of them even fired at all).
Default Fallout 4 Guns: *Exist*
Zach: “And so I took that personally.”
They are complete abominations. They would make John Moses Browning's eyes combust.
Same.
They are really bad tbh minus about 4/5 of them
The only one that's practical and realistic is the laser guns, kinda says a lot about the gun designs huh
I know nothing about guns and even I immediately realized how trash the fallout 4 guns look. Going from new Vegas guns to 4 is fucking shocking. They’re probably the worst looking video game weapons I’ve ever seen and I’ve played a shit ton of shooters.
Zach’s reaction to Fallout 4’s assault rifle is my reaction to Fallout’s armored fighting vehicles.
To be fair… the Fallout 4 assault rifle wasn’t meant to be the assault rifle. It was meant to be a heavy weapon exclusive to power armor, serving as an LMG so not every single member of the brotherhood had laser rifles and some could use ballistics. However it was made late in development and as they’d cut the heavy weapon/power armor restriction, in response to testers not using heavy weapons (mostly because fusions cores were scarce), they ended up changing it from a power armor LMG to the abomination assault rifle we have now.
@@nathan_thorn6906 Someone should mod that back
@@lego007guym8 I wouldn’t recommend it because it would just make the assault rifle worse, but I would like to see the brotherhood use it. I wonder if the rifle AI (since the combat AI of NPCs is usually determined by weapon) would make it more or less threatening than the minigun wielding brotherhood.
tbf iirc the assault rifle in game was meant to be used only by power armour, if you look at it in PA hands it makes more sense kinda
@@nathan_thorn6906 are you saying that fallout 4 could have been worse

Mike: "I can't do gun math! You guys have weird rules!"

Yeah, that's what made me giggle, because even gun nerd Zack can't argue about that.
Gun math is equations like the one you use to figure out what guage a lead ball is. Not only is it a really complicated equation but the results are also counterintuitive. Most people would think larger lead balls = larger guage but actually the smaller the guage the larger the ball.
@@Bluboy511 isn't it something like "the amount of lead balls of this diameter I can make from a specified amount of lead is the gauge" or some weird shiz like that...

In Russian military this kind of black eye is sometimes called "an idiot's mark" - you're kinda not supposed to put your eye on the suction cup on the scope, your head is supposed to lie on the cheek rest.
Also, inexperienced marksman is called "man with and oar" due to overall shape of the rifle and its uselessness.

i love their little roleplay thing they do every now and then, just two best mates having fun playing fallout
I love how it's either Zach likes a gun and Mike tries to nitpick at it, or Zach hates a gun and Mike tries to defend it. It's just a perfect formula to make content.

@@matthew3009I mean if you want Zach talking about guns go to his UA-cam channel he has own gun rants about cod vanguard and back 4 blood as well as gun cleaning streams
I actually saw Zach's rant about the Fallout 4 "Assault rifle" a while ago and decided to replay a bit of the game for nostalgia's sake. I was able to get a legendary version of the assault rifle and modded it to be as OP as I can get it. And since the game allows you to name guns, I thought about what was the most appropriate thing to name it when I remembered this clip of Zach talking about it and decided to name mine "Zach's Nightmare" and I used it for like 80% of my playthrough.
Broo that's amazing 😆
Since on ps4 there isn't any cool modded guns cuz sony, instead I get a mod that lets you put any parts (any gun attachment/modifers) onto any gun, so I had a 10mm with a minigun barrel that shot fatman shots

I always laugh because 9x18 Makarov is just midget 357
To be fair, you can measure .410 Bore in gauge. It's a 67 gauge shell. But that doesn't sound as good, and with shells that small it makes more sense to use caliber.
@@ClonedGamer001 Also plus it's .410 Bore why the hell are you even using it in the first place? You got a Snake problem or something
@@nickrustyson8124 It has its applications. It can be fired from a pistol, which you can't really do with other shot shells, and it's small, so you can load a shit ton of em into a full sized shotgun.
366 tkm fits in 7.62x39 mags but wont fire unless the gun is chambered for it. this goes for a LOT of ammo types in the world
Fun fact, the "Assault Rifle" was meant to be a handheld lmg used exclusively in power armor. But Bethesda scrapped the idea it was designed for late in production.
They should have scrapped the whole thing. Armor or no armor, it follows very little firearm logic, it looks ridiculous even for sci-fi standards, and it's a rather mediocre weapon when most other guns do everything it does but better.
@@commietearsdrinker I came up with an idea to fix that retcon because they only show up in two areas of Fallout Appalachia and Boston and I sort of came up with an idea for how all the shit of the new games can pan out because these two places were trying to become worlds of tomorrow to get away from their Roots Boston being criminal haven and Appalachia trying to get away from coal miner routes

"Why can't you just like things, and not be interested in other things?"
"Because some things are utter trash and shouldn't exist"
Man after my own heart.
My problem isn't the crude assemblage of a pipe and parts thrown together by raiders. It's the pre-war abomination they call an assault rifle.
I wouldn't be surprised if there is a mod where pipe weapons are the only ones with item condition by the way they're assembled. It would take considerable skill to make them able to fire all of the 50 round magazine without falling apart.
Seriously the default assault rifle in Fallout looks more like an lmg it looks like it should be used by someone in power armor, correctly somewhere in the file the assault rifle is labeled lmg or machine gun something to that effect. .
I threw up when I saw it and just sold the damn thing
@@clonescope2433 That's exactly what it was supposed to be, but for some reason at some point it was changed to be a general "assault rifle".

The flashlight coming off with the Bizon magazine sent me into a state of panic because it got me thinking "how many more helical mags with flashlight attachments do you have!?"

I’ll try to give some details on the famas since I recently completed basic training in the French forces during which we mostly use the famas. After that it’s standard issue hk416.
I’m left handed so basically you can switch the extractor to the left side on the famas bolt, reassemble, then attach the cheek rest dust cover piece to the other (right) side and your famas is now left handed (as in, shell ejection to the left. Otherwise it’s completely ambidextrous controls wise.
The piece at the top is actually called a "carry handle handguard" if I had to translate it from "poignée garde-main". It is detachable also. It has to be, so you can zero the ironsights, and for maintenance.
The reason why the French don’t like to walk around carrying it this way is because we don’t like having the barrel of the gun pointed at everything as we move around. It’s considered sort of a "gun safety" issue if you will.
Cool gun overall, has two different rear sight flip ups including a precision one that can be used for shots up to 600 meters. Tricky if your eyesight isn’t perfect but it does work.
Firing blank rounds is the only thing I’ve seen cause cycling issues.
That gun is mostly plastic but hell can it take a beating! (Source: there are many ways you can hit someone with it, and trust me their bones will break way before any of the gun’s plastic parts lol)
I appreciate the plastic vs bones bit in particular, that's always been something I wondered about, especially when it comes to bullpups made of a lot of polymer. I suppose it depends on the structuring and the polymer type as well though, so other rifles may not hold up as well

Real quick if I remember my halo lore, the AR and the Magnum have built in cameras right above the barrel that would interface with a soldiers HUD. And so to "aim down sights" they'd essentially be looking through the camera on their visor/eye piece. IDK if that would realistically be useful, but I do know it helped cause if someone stole a UNSC gun, they most likely couldn't use the camera and thus had a gun without iron sights.
That is actually pretty cool

For the Halo Ma5D that cowling is removeable, to reveal the iron sights, but a lot of marines keep it on because their helmet's have a link the gun to see where they're aiming that way. Also the gun is too small because the dimensions for it were based off the super soldier Master chief who is like twice the size of most people. So yeah, too small looks like a toy in his hands.
The Halo Pistol is similar in the cowling, that top part of it has a camera that is linked to most marine helmets that acts as 2x scope. Its chambered in .50 cal because in halo Ce that is what it felt like due to Bungie making a last minute oopsie with the gun balancing.
You- You probably don't care...
But I do.
I care.
They kinda forgot about that some weapons were specifically designed for spartan use
@@ubermaster134 I think the only weapon specifically designed for them during the war period was the Spartan Laser. Everything else was slightly modified milspec at best.
@@Suiseisexy i meant there were weapons specifically designed for the spartans because they were bigger and stronger like the Magnum used to be for spartan use only because that gun kicks like a mule and is as big as one compared to a regular marine
@@ubermaster134 in CE you get the magnum from Keyes though he gives it to you on the bridge of the pillar of autumn
Zach we want more of your gun rants
I've learned so much from you
"Hands up Mailbox!-"
**politely lets Dogmeat pass**
"Hands up Mailbox!"
1:17:00 if i remember correctly human guns in the halo universe are connected to a hud display thing on the soldier's helmet (in CE it's the green eyepiece thing), so it will just show you where it's aiming at instead of needing a sight. Though it's probably just a lore explanation for the hud seen in the games.
Still could be worse
Also a similar thing with the pistol where it has a 2x scope fixed to the top of it that is linked with the wielders HUD. It also should be noted the Pistol from Halo 1 was specifically designed for Spartans to use, hence the large frame and caliber.
Zach's joy about everything to do with the FAMAs is so pure and infectious.
Same with his love for the MP5 and the Saiga 12.
FUSIL 'D ABOLIR MES ALLIÉS SUPERFLUES! FUN AND ME ASS SHOOT!
I kinda understand why first time I've ever seen a FAMAS I thought it was pretty cool i loved the sound of it firing too
I just wanted to thank Zack for teaching me so much more about guns. I am now enlisted and shipping off for basic with mos 91f small arms and artillery repairer and I ship off this Tuesday coming back before Christmas. Good luck on UA-cam. And thank you
You make it back, safe?
So an interesting thing about rifle grenades, back during World War 2 they were literally just hand grenades where you put the grenades in a contraption to hold the spoon down and fit it over your rifle, then you'd pull the pin in the grenade and fire a blank, yeeting the whole assembly off your gun and the spoon popping off when the grenade hit the ground
24:20 That was with the old ones. The "new" generation of rifle grenades has a bullet trap so you dont even have to switch ammunition. But for the love of God do NOT fire a live round into an old type.
I'd say if you're stupid enough to actually do that ol pal Darwin will just laugh
Natural Selection taken into account by bullets
i feel like there were alittlemore than a handful of incidents before people thought, "maybe this could be safer..."
@@blackthrone6976 Well having an effective bullet trap for a .30 caliber is more dead weight than one for a 5.56. When you want to throw a riflegrenade as far as possible you dont want dead weight.
I would love to see the game which can actually live up to Zach's meticulous nitpicks when it comes to what does and does not make sense on a firearm. I feel like that game would simultaneously be a gun nut's dream and a casual FPS player's nightmare.
Horseshoes, Handguns and Handgrenades is what you're looking for
I think Arma 3 would fit that description too.
Escape from Tarokv
Receiver 2
Would Receiver 2 be fitting?
Hell, i'd love to see Zach play that regardless!
Love when Mike messes with Zach’s guns and then waits until he notices
His gun rants make for good background noise to help me sleep, thanks Zach
I love how he can look at a mod gun and see pieces from other guns on it and know exactly what every tiny piece is from.
24:53 to answer Mike’s question, while there are safety features in some more modern rifle grenades, typically the force from shooting a live round through one is highly likely to detonate it. There’s a famous picture of an M1 Garand, Barrel split open in four pieces like a banana almost the entire way down to the receiver, and the wood basically gone, while laying against the legs of the soldier that fired it, though it doesn’t show him from the waist-up. Reportedly that particular blunder cost the lives of three men.
And yet some more modern rifle grenades are designed to use a live round to launch them in the first place, so.
Listening to this in the background, I could pinpoint the exact moment when they start discussing the assault rifle.
Just found your channel and loving it.... subscribed.
Zach is like my father, talks to me about guns for an hour meanwhile i'm just there trying to understand what he's saying.
Man I'd love to see what Zach would have to say about the "Slaught-o-matic" from Cyberpunk. It looks like a toy, sounds about as pathetic as a cap gun, and is somehow capable of full-auto fire.
It’s literally a disposable zip gun, it even has a breakable plastic tab as a safety.
I’d love to see zack react to Johnny silverhands gun
The thing about the slaughtomatics (and why I love them as a representation of how fucked Night City is) is that they aren't meant to be good guns. They're literally the firearm equivalent of those little capsule toys you can get for 50-75¢ at supermarkets. Cheap, easily mass produced, and conveniently disposable once it's past its two hour life expectancy.
@@funnyvalentinedidnothingwrong just the simple fact that they have fun vending machines tells you everything about the world cyberpunk lives in
@@drewbeauchesne1116 Huh, Spiral Knight. Also, I do like those kind of low-cost futuristic gun designs.
I love when Zach gets started on his gun rants, Mike tries to play devils advocate and talk logic into why it is but Zach's just completely lost in his gun nerd tunnel vision to realize or care XD
I was waiting for Zach's rant about the "assault rifle" and I was not disappointed! XD
To be fair, that one was a product of rushed development. It was originally developed as a heavy weapon exclusive to power armor, providing more effective range and higher stopping power than the combat rifle, but lower fire rate and capacity than a minigun. Effectively an intermediate LMG for the brotherhood and high end gunners and raiders to use, instead of having every single brotherhood soldier equipped with laser weapons or miniguns.
However, they had issues with testing as test players just didn’t use power armor.
It was too clunky, drains fusion cores pretty quickly (a rare item for people unfamiliar with the game), and they eventually scrapped the heavy weapons/power armor requirement. Once that was done they ended up retooling the assault rifle into a rifle instead of a heavy weapon, rushed it into its new form and couldn’t prep unique animations for it, and it’s the abomination we ended up with today.
I was having a really shit day until I got the notification that we have another classic gun rant. Mood is instantly improved. Thank you Mike and Zach
Yup me too. Didn't expect to see another gun rant so soon
Same
Hope your day improves, man.
@@Rook725 it has been, thank you
@digifalc0087 yes I am, thank you
"I can't do gun math". Zach absolutely stumped by the accuracy of that statement.
Mike cracking up over the tiny bayonet is hilarious.
I really want to see Zach and Mike play with the Space Marine and 40k weapons mod. Stomping around as an Imperial Fist with a Cal pattern Bolter has been great fun. Also chainsword or Deamon Hammer would be entertaining to see Mike whacking things with
It's always so wholesome hearing Zach fanboy over finding a gun he's particularly fond of
Especially when the gun is properly modeled and represented
Like a lil kid on Christmas day getting every present he wished for. It's downright heart warming.
Christmas came early
"Wholesome" isnt the word I'd use: He sounds like a 12 year old that found his dads Playboy magazine underneath the bed
Still awaiting the day when we get a "Mike's Gun Reviews" on the energy weapons like he proposed in the last part of this series!
Ooh, or his personal taste in the melee weapons.
@@bthsr7113 Oh him going over melee weapons would be a treat
That Kalash at 17:40 is actually quite legit :) It's from the shortened series of AK-102 (5.56x45), 104 (7.62x39) and 105 (5.45x39). I do love the flipped receiver though :)
If you see a molerat with a tan it means the summer is going to be a long one
I don't know guns, so it just looks like an AKS-74u to me.
The way Zach’s voice fangirls out when he’s excited bring me … joy
Fun fact; that pistol bayonet is a real thing, you can buy in real life, and put on your real gun. I think it's even officially licensed from KA-BAR.
57:08
Today we learned, that The Deliverer makes absolutely no sense as a gun.
Meanwhile, it's probably the best Pistol in the entire Game (without Mods).
It's also the same animations that many many pistol gun mods use
@@vantelmehe4223
Yeah, but I meant for that specific gun.
Every other gun has animations specific to its 3D Model.
I always thought that Deliverer made no sense because it's been heavily modified and rechambered from its original design by Tinker Tom with whatever he had on-hand.
@@carterholcomb1072
Oh yeah, definetly.
But it still doesn't really explain the changes that they pointed out in the video.
I use it with power armor because it's really fucking good for that first stealth kill
I know it's about guns, but I lost it at his reaction to the npc talking about a tanned molerat 😂
The way Zach reacts to his gun suddenly being different is how I imagine the 3 bears in Goldi(y?)locks and the Three Bears reacting when they find all their stuff messed around with, particularly the beds 😂
