I live this dude and he definantly has the chops to play but being able to get an audition was probably somewhat easy. His dad is Max Weinberg aka the drummer for the E street Band. Jay has also filled in for his dad before
And for that time period Joey was great for Slipknot but the band has evolved into something amazing and it was just time to bring in someone with pure talent. Joey is still kicking ass with a band called Sinsaenum and I think he's still playing around with Murderdolls
+D.R.Caleb Each one on their own, I personally liked Joey's kit more. Whetever you use only one or two bassdrums doesn't make any difference, and same goes with triggers and amount of toms. In the end all that matters is how the kit sounds live. I hate Jay's snare, it just sounds bad live. Otherwise his kit isn't that bad.
+noskilz04 I think the triggering of the whole kit can kind of help from a tech/setup perspective. There's less need to mic check all the components on what was a pretty large kit when you can just have the triggered sounds ready to go.
bokunotraplord That's kinda the problem. Self titled era drums sounded like trash cans. And you're right about triggers, they're much faster and easier to set.
I don´t know if someone knows this but, at his first meeting with Corey, Jay was 10 years old, and it was at Slipknot´s 2001 concert in the hammerstein ballroom in New york. His father Max arranges an meeting for his son Jay to meet Corey. In the moment he was meeting his idol Corey taylor for the first time, he stayed beside his father, and shyly like he was, his words won´t came out. And now, 15 years later, he is part of the band. You wanna know, why i´m telling this to you ? Why do you think it came to this ? Was it luck ? NO. It was really hard work. If you work for your dreams, they maybe come true.
He said in an interview he had never heard of slipknot when he met them. Then he got into there music after they met and it was a few years later they started talking again.
With all my respect for Joey he will always be in our heart for life but like Jay is in the band right now he is the perfect drummer and he is getting better everytime i see him. Maggot for life
Im a huge slipknot fan both Joey and Jay eras. What I loved about Joey's drumming was that speed drumming. The 16th notes on the kick just made it so brutal. What I like about Jay is it's a diferent kind of brutal with a more 8th notes.
people please stop saying the same thing like'joey jordison better than jay weinberg' ok just stop it time has change theres nothing we can do only to accept it jay weinberg is also a great drummer ok.
I've been a slipknot fan for many years but Jay Weinberg and Joey jordison have different styles as of now jay's style fits Slipknot I'm not saying either one is better than the other but I'm really liking jay's Style they are both amazing drummers and Jay's dad drums for one of the most greatest bands in the world Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
Big Joey fan here. I had to accept that there will never be another Joey. Guys like him are once in a generation and he just fit this band. That being said, Jay is extremely good. I'd be hard pressed to say you'll find any better and this kid will eventually carve his own path to becoming a legend, like Joey before him.
Jay seems to be so much more of an authentic drummer compared to Joey. The thing I never really understood about Joey was that he had triggers on everything and didn't actually use his second bass drum (used a double bass pedal and the other drum was just for show), also that big spinning platform thing Joey had his kit. Jay must be so refreshing for Slipknot's stage crew. Not that Joey is a bad or unauthentic drummer, he was actually a big influence on my early drumming, just that Jay seems more grounded, literally.
As a drummer it is hard to explain to people that the feeling of separate bass drums or playing a double paddle is totally different, I now play 2 bass drums but I had more control with the double paddle.
Plus one bass drum with a double pedal is much less of a headache for the audio engineer. I think Joey just was much bigger of a presence in the band. He was a founding member and one of the main songwriters, so he had much more say in the band's affairs and got to stand in the limelight a lot more than Jay. Jay is also a great drummer, but I doubt that he has the standing in the band to demand a 10 minute drum solo with a spinning platform.
@@alfiedelevaldrumz5874 honestly (to me at least) Joey's songs have been easier to learn and play than Jay's have. With songs featuring Joey, you just need to have the speed and stamina to play them, other than that, they're alright (not for all songs of course, disasterpiece sucked donkey dick to learn 😂) while Jay's songs can have both speed and ingenuity. for example, red flags from WANYK is one of the most difficult (and one of the most fun 😂) songs I've personally ever learned from any band excluding meshuggah.
joey was the best fit for slipknot because he wrote songs around drum and guitar parts. jay doesn't write their songs, besides his own parts. so he is a drummer that doesnt stand out that much in their songs because he has to play songs that have already been made, while joey had much more creative say
Somwthing I am just now noticing on this video, Jay plays Evans drumheads, Vater sticks, Zildjian Cymbals, & SJC drums but all his heads in this video are Remo heads
Aleksey Daziel you just made yourself a fool... people LIKE joey, it's been proved many times that jay is way more technical and enthusiastic. plus, jay gives his 110% on stage AND in the booth, something joey didn't.
Aleksey Daziel Jay is the better drummer hands down, Joey was fast I'll give him that, but Jay is also very fast and more importantly has better timing and is much more intricate than Joey.
+Ben Mitchell I mean he uses A Customs for crashes from what I remember so it's probably just a regular or fast crash, size wise would just have to be your best guess.
Jay on WANYK is a lot more fluid and improvisational than on .5 because he's more relaxed in the band now. On .5 he was very rigid but still technically awesome. Joey wasn't as technical but a lot more flexible and erratic (in a good way).
Also Jay didn't write much if any of the drums on .5 Jim wrote the drum parts. Jay now is comfortable and able to write his own stuff, I think that's why he's a lot better live now than when he first joined.

Jay is the best drummer in the world in my opinion simply Bc he doesn’t use triggers, his kicks are always tight, on time and punchy, his snare is snappy and you can tell his toms are naturally resonating... he doesn’t have to rely on turning his kit into a tap machine to be on time and be tight, not to mention he’s playing this shit naturally where most drummers have to use triggers to play that clean

100 times a day reviewing, really like how Jay plays drums.Jay deserves to play in Slipknot
As musicians of today are getting worse it’s so nice to see some amazing drummers still out there like Jay weinberg and Jon Theodore.
Ok I've changed my mind on Jay, hes incredible.
Idk anything about drumming but I know this is insanely amazing.
