Honestly, I think Joey's main strength was as a songwriter (being responsible for a lot of their early material along with Paul) but I've seen Jay just jamming and I think he's a more interesting drummer. Always felt that Joey's drum solos were a bit dull, mainly just riding that double bass, but I'd love to see them incorporate some Jay solos

I like the earlier stuff better and like Joey's drumming just as good maybe better because the music was better. Loved the double bass he incorporated too. This guy still is a great drummer so all is well.
Why is everyone still comparing Jay to Joey? Totally different drummers and if you ask me Jay has far better technical ability than Joey. Let's be honest Jay probably looks up to Joey since Slipknot is his favourite band and we as fans should be grateful to have an outstanding replacement.

Riley Chidley Kinda yes but not really.His kicks are triggered but the trigger sample there using came from those kicks so it is his actual kick.Also it’s not 100% triggered,it’s about a 50/50 ratio between trigger and natural sound.(Incase you’re wondering how in got the information,he did a Q&A where he talked about it.)

Jay is amazing. I know people always wanna compare. Jay to Joey . Jay has his own way of doing things and to me he sounds Awesome. Great timing and very precise. Great job Jay.

To be honest, I think his feet lack alot of precision in this video. Especially the changes from 16th to 32th sound quite sloppy to me. However, his snare game is marvelous. But Unsainted maybe is not the best song to compare the skill of a drummer as it is quite straight forward. I would like to see this drumcam on eyeless for example. Or Before I forget. Those are a bit more complex at the drum section.

@@ryanbovine I was not about to compare Jay to Joey as I think their drum styles are very different. However I agree on Joey being way stiffer on the drums. That never seemed to hinder him though. It was just his style and he achieved more with it than just solid drumming. Joey not keeping pace however was nothing I experienced so far... But I will investigate on that.
Not so much. Joey when I was a kid was the etalon of drumming, every1 compared every1 to Joey, but now that I'm 33, I see that Joey was not that good of a drummer. There are hundreds of better and more skilled drummers out there... It does not mean he's not good, it just means he is far from the best, and imo Jay is not as good as Joey. So theres that.
This was just my opinion, and people change, so maybe in the future I'll think differently, but now, this is my opinion.

Jay is an incredible drummer with talent in his blood. His dad is also phenomenal and he inherited the drum genes for sure.
Jay is such a talented drummer. I for real wish him a long career in this field. And I love how his sticks are always moving even when he’s not playing just to keep the beat going.

Jay IS a beast, and he has done an outstanding job in carving his own niche in THE KNOT......BUT......while he has his own style, IMHO, he doesn't have the same "energy" as Joey did. By that I mean Joey was a more.....animated, if you will. But hey, to each his own. Jay has his style, and it fits. RIP Joey. We miss you.

I had the privilege of seeing slipknot with Joey, it was the most painful awesome experience. Jay is a phenomenal drummer with a jazz drumming background. He's built for slipknot.

Because of the fandom. Ten years of blood, sweat and tears dedicated to Slipknot, and all he got from the fans was criticism and comparisons with Joey, whether he was as good as Joey or not, how they, the fans, missed Joey, etc. Few, if any, recognized Jay's talent or dedication to the band. Honestly, I think he endured this situation for too long. And I hope Corey replaces Jay with a laptop, because that's what Slipknot fans deserve. And given the recent direction Slipknot's music has been taking, I think that option is quite realistic.

This man is an absolute beast. Insanely tight playing and awesome sounding kit live. Kick sounds so full and deep and fits well with percussion.
I used to be salty about joey being replaced, but Jay has studied his style enough to supplement his own unique style with it.
That's both artistic integrity AND mad respect to his predecessor.

I never thought I would like a 'replacement' in the band, it would not be the same.
I was wrong. Slipknot is still passionate, even though they did some horrible things (as the internet/media tells me, not convinced) they still have the identity of the music I grew up on. I like the new albums a lot. Can't stop listening to them.

Its awesome being able to only hear the drum mics at this live concert. You can hear the rest of the band and live crowd gently bleeding threw the drum mics. It gives you a feeling of what it would actually be like playing those drums. Shout out to the mixing engineer on the drums, they're magically delicious!

I saw him once live and now that he’s not part of the band it absolutely breaks my heart. He was the guy I grew up knowing as their drummer and now he’s gone. His style was like none other.
Jay is a beast. I love Jay's feel, technique and feel. Very schooled and disciplined. The Weinberg name lives on through the halls of inspirational drummers.
This whole album shows how good Jay really is.
He made so much progress since his Slipknot live performance from 2015.

Paul Gray did lines of coke while writing music. People don’t have to OD to be known to use. Haha, yeah no.....the bass drum is 100% triggered. Bass drums don't sound anything like that without heavy triggering or post-production effects. What you're hearing is not "real."
IBitePrettyHardSH Well not exactly,his bass drums are triggered but the sample they use is from his kick drums.So there triggerd but they used his own kick.
I'm listening to this and I don't think that's a sample being used, not only can I not see a trigger on the kick drums, the sound is noticeably unique for each hit. The way it's been recorded is why it sounds so punchy, it's not necessarily the natural sound of the drum.

Something you’ve been doing for the love of it your whole life and one day you wake up and see 50,000 people in front of you rocking out to your awesome drum set. Feel like you’d still be dreaming.

@@stividrum8427 because I've watched videos of some band's tour crew and in ear monitors are for hearing your instruments better, a metronome in your ear would only complicate things considering songs live are not played out perfectly in time like the studio version

Solway firth now
It's still really weird for me to hear Solway Firth in the context of Slipknot. Normally it's something I'd hear mentioned on the local shipping forecast, or see sign posted going fishing and camping, or down into England for whatever reason. I imagine a lot of Scots feel the same.

@@andy_182 The Solway Firth is where the River Eden and the River Esk meet the sea in Scotland, right at the bottom, just before England. So it's mentioned on the radio when they're giving the Weather report of what the sea is like, and I've heard it a lot when fishing the River Esk, and going down to England. It's just weird since I've listened to Slipknot since 1999, and now they've go a song named of somewhere I've spent time.
