Can we all agree that they are average and extremely boring, creatively barren, imaginationless bottom-of-the-barrel, by-the-numbers, NUMB-from-repetition, trash drummers that insult the appreciation that I (and numerous other people) have for the creativity and sheer joy of watching a good drummer, and drumming ourselves? ...yeah, sure.
Frawtarius Get the fuck out man. Like seriously. In a band like Slipknot there is absolutely no room for creativity on the drums. They just have to be basic rhythms/grooves whicj are straight forward and hard hitting. That's because nothing else works for the music. And that's the one important thing that makes a drummer a good drummer. Playing FOR the music of your band not playing for yourself bybeeing a little showoff behind the kit. If you want complex drumming listen to Prog or Jazz-Fusion.
Frawtarius Can we all agree that your opinions generally are not welcome here and that you should delete your comment before a nasty flame war starts up?
@@LordOfTerra I'm sober, Jay should become a cyclist and Joey should come back. Jay can only seem 2 petals anyways. Hi hat doesn't deserve that neglect.
+Evil Not really. Its a completely different band and sound without Joey writing. Jay wouldn't have made the classics Joey did. Joey's writing was far more important than his drumming honestly.
In my opinion Joey Jordison could never be replaced from Slipknot, but if there is a close second it's definitely Jay Weinberg, he's had huge shoes to fill and done a hell of a job of making it his own. Definitely a unique drummer.
I get what you're saying about it being hard to replace Joey, I do. And by all means, this Jay fellow is a fantastic drummer, and he seems to be doing a great job in the band. But coming from someone who lost interest in Slipknot after IOWA, yet still finds both of those records to be worth listening to, I don't think he's the right guy for the job as far as style is concerned. Maybe he's perfect for Slipknot's post IOWA sound; I don't know, as I said before, I lost interest. But when I think about this guy playing their older songs, I have a hard time imagining him pulling off some of their drum patterns. I'm not right or wrong in saying that, and as of right now, I'm not even sure I stand by it because I'm judging the man after watching 3 or 4 videos of his drumming, and only two has actually been of him in Slipknot. Take David Silveria from Korn as an example: He gave Korn that tight, raw, almost ethnic vibe that his drumming style had in their earlier sound, and his departure was barely noticed. Ray Luzier, his replacement, not only replicated his drum sound, but expanded on it, and dare I say eclipsed it in almost every way possible. I'm not sure that I can say that about Jay Weinberg in relation to what Joey Jordison brought to the table in Slipknot. Is he a good drummer? Yes. Is he prolific? Possibly; his father sure is one of the best rock/big band drummers of all time. But is he the person to replace Joey? Apparently they think so. I'm just having a tough time seeing it. But again, this is an opinion that I have only developed in the last 20 minutes, and I'm willing to bet that I won't feel that way forever, but it's nice to get my thoughts out.
@@Ivegotwormsinme I think the true test for Jay will be in the upcoming album, which Corey is claiming will be reaching for heaviness that borders on Iowa's level. I personally think he did a pretty good job of Grey Chapter, but now I want to see what he can do with 4-5 years of touring behind him
When I watch Jay play songs Joey recorded I get more excited. I think Jay brings more power and skill to the drums. I always thought Joey sounded like he was overplaying. Either way, people much more important to the band than any of us, picked Jay out of a field of candidates. Slipknot is big enough to choose just about anyone to play drums. Jay was chosen for a reason. Joey fans won’t ever truly accept Jay out of opinion, over fact of actual drumming skill.
Ivegotwormsinme Coming from someone who lost interest in Slipknot during IOWA i kinda understand and agree for what your saying about Jay. I guess that's normal that Jay dosen't play the old songs exactly like Joey. Diferent people, diferent feeling. He will never be Joey(in this prime, because he suck after), but he's becoming much better fiiling such big shoes. About Silveria,i totally disagree,as i think David was a big part in Korn unique sound back in the days and he was not so tight like you're saying. TheDefeatest. Agreed when I’m done I’m sweaty and just plain fatigued. Usuall my legs burn and my arms are sore. Drumming is no joke especially if you take it seriously
I think it's just something a lot of metal drummers do because they're not usually playing a lot of closed hat or anything that needs crazy hat foot work or switching from double to hat. Gives them more room to set up their pedals have the hats a comfortable distance if need be. But he's also using a double kick setup, and some people don't like mounting their hi-hats to the kick or maybe don't have something close enough to mount it to.
When the hi hat is too close to the snare it bleeds into the snare mic which is something no one wants. seriously drummers need to space their shit out further. ESPECIALLY WITH THE GOD DAMN RIDE CYMBAL!
To anyone that give Jay shit its unwarranted, he's done a good job, he track solid drums on a really good album and I can say from experience cause I saw them live in Vegas in August and everything sounded as it should have, much respect to this guy
We've been waiting for this video-Thank you so much people!!!Amazing drummer, great live performer, and looking forward to see much more of his and Slipknot this summer!!!
Jay has gotten better over time and really filled the role nicely, and this is coming from a HUGE Joey Jordison fan. Some people hate on this guy as if he's at fault for Joey's illness at the time and eventual departure from the band, while in reality, Jay speaks about his admiration for Joey every opportunity he gets. Jay's biggest flaw in the beginning was that he was trying too hard to mimic Joey to the point that his playing felt a little forced and unauthentic, but now that he is more comfortable at his position and the guys were allowing him to have creative input, he grew into his own quite well. His mid tempo double bass kicks have always felt a little sloppy at times, but as Scott Travis of Judas Priest said, "maintaining the proper speed of a mid paced double kick pattern without letting a foot drag one time which fucks the whole groove up is actually more difficult than the super fast stuff. I know when I'm doing 32nd beats and stuff, as long as my stamina is with me, there isn't much opportunity for a broken pattern, where as the mid paced stuff tends to require constant focus without any over thinking. That's probably what I've practiced the most when by myself." Jay was flawless when I saw Slipknot over two months ago, so he clearly progressed well in that department. What more could you ask for? Give the guy a break, stepping in to play drums for Slipknot is NOT an easy task.

Sounds fine to me. You're hearing the kicks from the batter side through the camera mic, so if there's any difference in stroke power you'll hear it so it'll sound odd. Not to mention they play long sets and I am sure it can be tiring, they're people, not machines. And I am not sure when you think he "shook his head in disgust".
