    Thank you for sharing your work experiences, it’s actually really insightful because personally I find it challenging recognizing how my behaviour comes across to others and how others may interpret my attitude. This definitely helps in getting an idea of how to handle tense work situations and personality differences.

    I think I said “yas queen” 40 times while watching this! Thanks for always giving us your perspective. I appreciate it. I’ll take it. I’ll try to use it to better myself.
    I’ve had recent situations with people not owning their work. I basically had a melt down to peers/those above me. Until I realized that I can only control how I react & not how someone else performs/behaves. Me being upset only gave that person power over me. #FriendlyBrotherlyAdvice not as catchy as #FriendlySisterlyAdvice

    I can understand the staff wanting to spend more time with the senior because that is their direct supervisor. It'll be easier on staff in they get along well with the senior because they have someone not at their level but also not to far above that they can lean more on

    • @WithStephie
      @WithStephie  4 роки тому +2

      That's true. However, this situation was different though in just building rapport and work relationship with the senior. The staff's issue was she was trying to force the friendship and when it didn't happen immediately, she let her personal feelings affect her work performance.
      My comment about not wanting to get to know me was just being silly after everything went down like it did 🥴

      @@WithStephie ha I definitely agree. I wish she had used all her resources i.e you, but given her personal differences with you, that was not the case. I do wish I had a manager like you though, PA is no joke. *cries as today is Monday

    Girl I have a Filipino husband (I’m Ukrainian) and I think it’s the most anti-racist thing you can do! It just shows we do not see color, we see the person for who they are! Wow the nerve of some people 😡
    ps thank you so much for always sharing your public accounting stories!!

    I’m going to save the last part of your video for my son. My son is half Asian (from my side) and half American( from my husband’s side). It is always my biggest fear that he’s going to have a tougher life than other kids just because who he is. Thank you for sharing your experience. Love you!

    Stephie, that’s definitely a struggle that many of us children of immigrants go through. I’m latino but American-born. It can be tough, and I really empathize with that. There are differences in how an ethnic identity is experienced between people born in the States vs in the family’s country of origin, sure; but no one can take away how our heritage has helped shape our lives (food, customs, songs, culture, etc.) I don’t think you failed so much as simply didn’t realize how what you said could be misconstrued - it happens all the time. Anyway, thanks again for your stories and lessons. I think you’re a great leader!

      Thank you so much JP. I definitely feel not so alone in the struggle! It was a good lesson for me to learn how I may come across, even when not intended.
      Have a great weekend!

    I am Indo-Canadian and had similar experiences (parents are Indian but born in Canada). When I introduce myself I call myself Indian because people argue that I am not Canadian and it's just easier. Sometimes people from India are either super hostile to me or extra friendly with me because I'm born in Canada. I guess people of immigrant parents go through this struggle of not being "enough" - "too foreign" or "too whitewashed". I think it's important to be confident in yourself.

    Thank you for sharing, I am sorry had to deal with a person who didn't appreciate what you were doing or where you were coming from, sometimes people can't see beyond themselves, is totally her lost. I now need to watch because I have also used our culture in a similar situation. New hair is gorgeous!

    I have always thought I saw some Asian elements in you! I’m so happy to learn that you’re a Asian American. Lol maybe you mentioned this in other videos but this is the first time I’ve really heard you say it.

    I am half filipina/white. I don't really look asian or white. My facial features are ambiguous and people always asked me what my ethnicity was growing up. My filipina mother would always tell me to say a bunch of different things in response like, "Just say you are asian," "Just say you are american," "Just say you are white, filipina, and chinese." (My grandpa was half chinese/filipino.) Fast forward to adult hood where I live in a city now, I have learned that I can't identify myself as asian especially in front of full asians from asia. They get very judgemental when I say that. I just say that I am mixed...

    Thinking about a career change from healthcare to accounting. I work in healthcare now and was interested in accounting. Wanted to know if there are any entry level accounting related jobs that don’t require a accounting degree to see if it’s a career I truly want to explore?

    • @WithStephie
      @WithStephie  4 роки тому +1

      I would recommend accounts payable or accounts receivable/ billing. Even better would be a staff accountant position but most require some knowledge of accounting, like an associates degree. But it's possible to find one that doesn't require, just takes some searching. Best of luck to you!

    The way I see it is that since you identify as Asian-American then she should've respected that. She shouldn't have disagreed with your identity. Honestly, it just sounds like she was someone who was looking for trouble with her attitude problem, being sad about the senior manager not immediately being best friends with her, and accusing you of racism.

    I’m quite offended that she used your husband’s race as a token to coin you racist. From what you have told us, I don’t see anything wrong with saying “in our culture.” You genuinely seemed to want to give her advice from your perspective as an Asian woman. Just because you were born in America does not invalidate your race as well.
