    I agree with you that you shouldn't tell people you are looking for a new job because the situation could resolve. My boss was rude to me inside and outside of work and her ethics overall got her arrested and fired.

    I definitely agree with you. This is the most heartfelt, honest, detailed explanation and advice I’ve seen. All on point especially not telling the boss that we are looking for another job, not burning bridges although at the back of our minds we wanted to curse every inch of them.😁Work environment overall is not the area where we can be 101% honest. It will backfire, i repeat, “backfire” us if we do. Thank you🤗❤️

    I just want to say that you have made such an impact on my life. Seriously the sister I’ve always needed. You’re videos encouraged me to major in accounting. Now I’m two weeks away from graduating. I’ve worked for a small firm for two years. They recently asked me to start working more hours (full-time) but haven’t gave me a full time offer and aren’t compensating me as much as I think I should be compensated. I’m really needed this video as I’m super timid about asking for a higher wage. I’ve been so loyal to this company that I never took any internships. Now I’m regretting my choices😕

    Thank you for your thoughts! I actually went through this process back in March before the 3/15 deadline. I had a job offered lined up and had a frank talk to a partner that I had like a mentor relationship with. He was definitely interested in my grievances and I just unloaded. Lol thankfully I did not burn bridges and actually I was able to inspire change within the company. The partner gave me a counter offer and I'm happy to say i still work for my current firm.

    Love this! I recently quit at a firm and unfortunately it didn’t go so well. My boss became really upset, and no counter offer. I feel like she took it personal. Sometimes I guess that happens no matter what you do. I’m hoping I didn’t burn a bridge, I worked there for 4 years (I’m in tax).

    I was so excited to quit my job. To finally move on to greater, greener pastures.
    I applied to hundreds, maybe thousands of jobs. Only heard back from maybe 20 or 30.
    Of the 20 or 30 I applied for, 4 or 5 of them seemed to like me enough that they seemed like they'd be willing to hire me!
    Something would always happen to prevent me from getting the job (I.E - I'd be told that they were interviewing me for a position that they had already filled, I didn't have enough references, I was too young to do the job despite being the best candidate, hiring manager quit, COMPANY SHUT DOWN, etc.)
    Eventually I was told that I could move up in the company I was already in. I was excited, but a part of me told me that my manager was lying and would screw me over. My family said "Yeah nah, that'd be really scummy. I doubt your manager could reasonably run a company if he did something that mean."
    He did something that mean, I was absolutely correct despite having literally no reason to believe what I believed.
    I began searching for another job again.
    Found a few jobs that seemed like they wanted to hire me, same bullshit though. They'd say "Not enough references", or "We decided to hire internally", or "Yeah but this other candidate speaks Spanish, which isn't pertinent to the role in any way but we're going with them anyway".
    Began to settle in my job, calmed myself and tried to get a level head and started working with several temp agencies.
    One temp agency found me a job that seemed great! A "state of the art" call center that was desperate for workers! They had me in for interviews and told me I was the primary candidate, and I was instructed to give my two week notice at my job. Finally!
    I went home and began to draft my two week notice, got a phone call saying "NO! DON'T GIVE YOUR TWO WEEK NOTICE! I'll call you back with more details!"
    Didn't hear back for months, even after calling back multiple times. That is, until I left a bad review on their page for having completely abandoned me. They then called be back with another interview at the same company.
    The same thing happened again. But it's okay! They had a second shift, twelve hour day PICK PACKING job lined up for me. Fuck that noise.
    Started working with another temp agency, still looking to quit my first job.
    They had a job lined up for me, looked promising! I was told I'd have an interview lined up.
    I begin to wait for the call, but then COVID-19 begins to spike in the USA.
    Businesses close and lay off.
    I'm laid off.
    I'm now un-employed.
    Fuck this adulting bullshit.

    Hi Stephie, thank you so much for your spectacular videos. I feel like I know so much about public accounting and the professional world just by watching all of your videos. I had one other question for you some-what related to this topic. How were you able to go on job interviews if you worked during the entire day?
    I remember you had a video talking about finding a job and dealing with recruiters but I don't believe this question was answered. If you did, my apologies for asking again.

    Telling your employer that you're looking for a new job - NO!!! BUT letting your employer know that you're aware of the market for your skills/certification (especially in industry) - tread with caution and use discernment. Be honest, frank, yet tactful in your conversations related to why you're leaving. Its easy to be petty betty, but use facts to support your claims.

    im in the same situation. i just accepted a new job offer and i am super excited. is more money, remote, and more in line in the sector i want to work in. i haven't yet notified my current employer, not sure when I will notify. New job folks are working on the hiring process and I want to make sure the benefits package is spot on and, background all clears and so on. is this ok just to wait until everything clears out and signed and ready? or should i just send the notice?

    I’m actually in the situation where my job isn’t going so well for me.. Should I just tell my HR dept that I want to quit my job or do I have to my Supervisor that I’m resigning? The reason I ask is I just don’t feel comfortable telling a manager that I’m quitting a job and would just rather go higher up and tell HR department and let them take care of everything.

    • @WithStephie
      @WithStephie  5 років тому +1

      I have always told HR directly when I have quit. I personally would tell my supervisor or boss too but after I officially submitted my resignation to HR. Just out of courtesy I'd suggest telling them but if it's a hostile environment to begin with, HR could (and will) inform them too. Wishing you all the best!

  • @lavang600

    Stephie.. speaking truths we all need to hear! I absolutely loved what you said about being the bigger person. It's definitely not easy especially when you're the one who has been getting the short end of the stick. I agree with not crying wolf when you encounter difficult situations in the work place. However, would you say it's more detrimental to our mental well being by staying in these toxic work environments rather than searching for something new? Which leads me to ask - What's the best apporach for responding to what others may perceive as "job hopping"?

    • @WithStephie
      @WithStephie  6 років тому +5

      If it's toxic and you've tried to fix/ get away from the situation, I think it's not worth staying just to not have a job change on your resume. I had a couple jobs where I stayed less than a year but ultimately you have to do what's right for your overall wellbeing. People will judge but you don't have to justify yourself to anyone when you're doing what's right for you/your life & family. Just have a good reason to give when explaining those shorter jobs during interviews! Like an example would be culture wasn't what you expected and why.

    How can I leave a job which has been paying me to be on leave?

  • @problemz2solve
    @problemz2solve 3 роки тому +1

    I have a question: when you’ve quit your jobs, did you tell your employer exactly where you were going? Or did you simply leave it at “I got a new job”? My job is nosy, so I’m sure they’re going to be asking me a million and one questions about the new place, but I would rather provide as few details as possible without seeming rude.
    Also, is it okay to just submit an emailed resignation letter and leave it at that? At all of my other jobs, I’ve told them in person. But this place is shady, so I want to make sure I have a written record. Also, my manager recently quit, and he’s the only person I would have cared to have an in person conversation with. This place promised me a raise in 6 months at the time of my last performance evaluation, but they didn’t put it in writing on my evaluation. 3 months later my manager quit, and they tried to offer me his position and give me the same exact raise I had already been promised before. They acted like they hadn’t already promised me that raise for the work I was already doing. And I had no written record of it.
    I said no to the position, and now the 6 month mark has passed, and I didn’t get the raise I was supposed to be getting at all, but they’ve continued to give me more and more of my managers old responsibilities. The amount of work I’m doing has doubled from the time I’ve started working here until now (1 year). Also, just in the one year I’ve been here, my entire department except for one person has quit and been replaced. I’ve never worked in an environment like this.

    • @shutit4024
      @shutit4024 3 роки тому +1

      I’m getting ready to quit and my boss is okay but it’s just her lap dog/ side kick ask a million questions and 2 of my coworkers and I would like to not answer personal questions. I side eyed them after what happened to me a few months back ( that is also why I’m leaving) asking dumb personal questions that they already asked me 3 days in a row. I’m just going to say ( depending on the question and who’s asking) “ it’s all in the letter” that’s it.

      If I had an established working relationship with them, yes I would tell them normally in person or via email if I'm not going to be at their office before the last day. Outside of that, the manager or partner will normally fill them in after you leave and include who is replacing you.

    @18-ish.....about companies hiring you back if you leave on good terms....it depends on the industry and the contracts involved. Many companies, even if you were a start worker that left on good terms, will not hire you back if yo: went to a competitor, took projects with you, took people with you or recruited coworkers at a later time, and lastly and more common that you know...got your boss in trouble when his boss found out he/she wasn't treating you right.
