"Stairway To Heaven" is more than THE anthem of the whole rock history. It's THE revelation at all. I gave them my soul when I was sixteen. And now they are not going to give it me back.
The twin neck guitar is a Gibson EDS 1275 basically a 12 string guitar and a regular 6 string guitar in one, this guitar is not used all through the concert, only certain songs, the 12 string neck is not that complicated, in standard tuning everything is the same as the 6 string the only difference is the strings are in pairs so on the Low E,A,D and G strings they will be paired with strings tuned an octave higher, the High B and e are tuned to the same octave. And before anyone jumps down my throat, I'm aware of alternatives for the G but I'm trying to keep it simple.
Led Zeppelin is made up of 4 musical geniuses, each are the GOAT of their crafts, & together The GODS Of MUSIC. Every song they perform is amazing, so anything you choose to listen to is a great choice. One of my favorite studio songs is called You Shook Me, 3 great solos of keyboards harmonica & guitar, with amazing vocals & drums. My favorite live performances are, Madison Square Gardens (1973) Since I’ve Been Loving You, everything from that concert is excellent. My other favorite live is Earls Court the May 25,1975 version of In My Time Of Dying, that date has the best audio & visuals. Thank you for your reaction, & PLEASE do so much more Led Zeppelin, you won’t be disappointed.
What you just witnessed is four of the most talented musicians ever assembled into one band, playing one of the most iconic rock songs ever. The double necked guitar has 12 strings on the top, which gives it more the sound of an acoustic guitar, the lower neck is a typical 6 string guitar. This enables Jimmy Page to get different sounds for different parts of the song without having to switch guitars. Led Zeppelin were arguably the greatest band of the '70's, and they have a huge catalogue of legendary songs. Although they have a distinctive sound, not one of their songs is like another. Brilliantly talented group of young men.
Welcome to Led Zeppelin ! They are 4 of the most talented musicians in the world They cover a lot of different types of rock including blues, funk, and a little bit of country. They can go from a nice mellow song to a hard rock type. They have 12 years of material and every song is worth the listen. Rock on🤘
That is why Jimmy could bring the listener into his playing. It was not just some kind of technical perfect but, he did emotion with it. He took you along with him.
What you described as a flute sound was on the original studio recording played by John Paul Jones (bass and keyboards, Multi instrumentalist) on a recorder, John Paul Jones (multi instrumentalist) and Jimmy Page were session musicians during the 1960s, basically if was a hit song from the UK in the 1960s Jimmy Page probably played on it from Easy Listening to Hard Rock.
I remember hearing Led Zeppelin playing this live in 1971 before it was released, my immediate reaction was that this was going to be an all time classic.
Considered by many including me to be the best song ever written , this is the best version i have 5 versions including the BBC first performance of this 4 yrs before this performance
The most popular rock song of all time. To answer your questions. The keyboard was what was sounding like a flute from the Middle Ages England. It gives the song a start off of a fable. Mystical. I always picture an English Middle Ages world and yet in the forest with the friendly bird and animals I am picturing almost a Disney look complete with a cottage and the trees and all. Jimmy Page was playing a double necked guitar. He had it custom made for this song live. Afterwards, other bands thought it cool and got doubles as well. Not many but, a few. The weird displays of like a double of Jimmy and having Robert Plant fading in a out with strange shapes was something they did back in the day. Camera people thought they were being cool and hip for the young folks by showing acid trip kind of look. They used it a lot in the late 60s and early 70s on tv shows that had a rock band as a musical guest. After awhile they figured out the teenagers did not care and thought it dumb and annoying by distorting the picture. There is a very long catalog of Zeppelin's songs and they are all really good. The band is just several cuts above the other bands.
the song is fifty years old but sounds as good today as when it was released ,it may be the most famous rock song in the world , it is one of the most original and is amongst the most popular. Jimmy Page is the guitarist founding member and producer and is a visionary who knew exactly what he was doing . He had the guitar made up so that he could perform this live without changing guitars. he wrote the music and Robert PLant the singer wrote the lyrics . the drummer is john Bonham and the keyboard player is John Paul Jones. The instrument JPJ is playing is a meletron- he is providing the flute sound . He also plays bass guitar organ and mandolin as required on their various songs. they formed in the uk in 1968 and released first two albums in 1969 so where at the outset of rock music which is why this sounds so original- they were groundbraking, although they were influenced by earlier american blues and rock and roll artists , which was the music they listened to when they grew up. They all been playing for a number of years prior to that in other bands and as session musicians. the references in this song are particularly British - hedge rows , May queens and so on . he who pays the piper calls the tune is a old English saying. although the second reference may be to the pied piper of Hamlyn . LedZeppelin specialise in music which has changes of tempo , light and shade and multiple transitions and are masters of many styles . They are always superb musicians. I think you might really like Babe i'm gonna leave you from the first album which features spanish style guitar.
The song is about hope, in that we all have it in ourselves to get to Heaven, we just need to realise that the stairway can't be bought. We get there by the manner in which we live.
It was already suggested to you before me: Since I've Been Loving You in the same concert. If you have these, anything is possible because you already know these four geniuses.
Once again this year Stairway To Heaven was the number one song in the top 400 countdown. It has been number one more then any other song, on occasion falling to number two. Amazing beautiful song, but not necessarily Led Zeppelin’s greatest song, there’s a few other contenders.
It's a Gibson double neck Gibson specifically built that guitar for him so when he was out on tour he didn't have to keep switching out guitars due to different tunings the guitar was only ever used in concert it was never used in studio
The guitar is a Gibson duel neck SG. The lower neck( not handle) is a standard SG and the top neck is a twelve string version of the same. You will see one being utilised by the Eagles as well.
Not sure if I could play a double neck guitar. Like all stand-up guitar players I adjust the strap to suit my preference. With a double neck guitar one neck would be either to high up or too low down. Also in a hot and sweaty basement bar in West London keeping six strings in tune is hard enough, I wouldn’t want to try with eighteen strings.
Great live treatment but the studio version needs to be heard, it is the 2nd most played song ever, after Happy Birthday. It has a pristine mix and affects everyone who hears it, please do the original song sometime, you will love it! A true masterpiece. Enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶🔥
There are fantasy elements within the song (Led Zeppelin's band members loved "The Lord of the Rings" novels and there are sprinklings of Tolkien's mystical world in many of their songs), but if you listen to the lyrics of the studio version really closely, it sounds like the Lady of the song is Lady Liberty (aka the Statue of Liberty). She has a choice of the path she walks down, one of the ideal concepts of what America is supposed to stand for and the other a darker path of materialism and consumerism (and other less than great things).
The upper neck contains a 12-string guitar which is used for intros and outros, just sounds cool. But for solos he needs a 6-string guitar which is on the bottom neck
The guitar has 2 necks because the top neck is a 12 string and the lower neck is a 6 string. Top is usually for full rhythm sound and bottom is for lead breaks. That's the usual setup and it's not a unique guitar, lots of bands have them. An example of one band is The Eagles playing "Hotel California" Live. Also a super song you could react too!!
The double neck guitar he's playing has a 6 string neck and a 12 string neck. The different necks each produce a different sound. Various parts of the song use a six stings sound or a 12 string sound. Jimmy Page, the guitarist switches back and forth between playing a 6 string and playing a 12 string guitar, depending on the part of the song he is playing. The number of tuning pegs reveal which neck is the 6 or 12 string neck.
That's a Gibson EDS-1275 double neck, 6 and 12 string. They're going for about $8,000 now. He chose that because on the album the opening was played on an acoustic guitar. He starts out here on top with the 12 strings and later goes to the 6 string. On the album John Paul Jones played the beginning with a recorder, here it's a Mellotron, an early synthesizer that you could different instruments to be played with keys. It also has pedals which he played the bass guitar with.
I went to see Robert Plant on the 13th and 14th August at QueenElizabethTheatreinVancouver, BC! Robert Plant sounds amazing still and such a great guy!! Cost me alot but I paid for the Meet and Greet!! ❤😊

Hi Fran , great song,Led Zeppelin were a British heavy metal band from 1970s ,that guitar with two" necks" is used so the player doesn't have to change instruments in the middle of a song ,if you look closely you'll see that the guitar with the wider neck has twelve stings instead of six , there are plenty of Led Zeppelin songs on UA-cam, have a listen to "Whole Lotta Lovin " ❤❤ .

It is a story of a woman that thinks heaven is material. However, she goes to transformation over time then the guitar solo his her epiphany and sees the spiritual stairway to heaven.
This guitar, also known as the Schrammel guitar, has a fretted six-string neck and a second, fretless neck with up to nine bass strings. @@PeterDay81 Nope it's an actual guitar made by Gibson and I think Epiphone do a version, notable songs that use EDS 1275 are Hotel California (Eagles) and Knocking On Heavens Door (Guns 'n' Roses). I'm not sure how much the 1275 featured in the studio version of Stairway but the solo was played on a Fender Telecaster.
They had quit making this guitar, Page had his especially made for him, to play this song live. In the studio version he plays 2 different guitars, but for concerts it would break the flow having to switch them out.

By 1973, Zeppelin were the biggest rock property in America. I don't think that can be contradicted. It wasn't necessarily the issue in their native UK. But they had the sound and attitude adjusted to that culture (which was, in respect of their actual background as Brits) largely alien. In that sense they were a pop band presenting what that audience wanted to hear - but, at the same time, passionate about those influences.

Hi, VG! I love this reaction! You’re asking perfect questions. I see the double-necked guitar question has been answered. May I suggest a fantastic, amazing song that has TWO double-necked guitars (and the band has 3 members, the other one is a drummer)! The song is ‘Xanadu’, by the band Rush, live in 1981. StickHits has a high-quality video on his channel. You could even do ‘The Trees’/‘Xanadu’ which is glorious. You’d love both songs! Cheers
Why do people insist on placing things on their posts to impair the vision of their followers, instead of just posting a copyright disclaimer just before posting a video!?
"Funny pose". Interesting. In every reaction I've seen - virtually every girl/woman that comments on his demeanor/stance/style, etc - not one has ever called his mannerisms "funny". Sexy, swaggering, confident - but never, "funny".
"Stairway To Heaven" is more than THE anthem of the whole rock history. It's THE revelation at all.
I gave them my soul when I was sixteen. And now they are not going to give it me back.

Cheers
Thanks
Why do people insist on placing things on their posts to impair the vision of their followers, instead of just posting a copyright disclaimer just before posting a video!?
i agree......bothers me too..... i don't get it!!....LOL
This band is nicknamed, "The Hammer of the Gods."
The more you listen to them, the more you'll understand why.

Hoo why cut the reaction images?
"Funny pose". Interesting. In every reaction I've seen - virtually every girl/woman that comments on his demeanor/stance/style, etc - not one has ever called his mannerisms "funny". Sexy, swaggering, confident - but never, "funny".
Watch Kashmir Live. You can thank me later.
