Le Mans is a 24 hour race and a city in France. The race takes place partially on a track and on public roads. And no, they don't rely on just one driver. Each team has 3 to 4 drivers per car. But the car does drive 24 hours minus time spent in pit stops for fuel and tires.

You now need at least 2 days for everything. And if you can't afford the entrance fee, just tell the ticket office and you'll be allowed in. This applies in January, even for families. Tickets have to be booked online so that there are never too many visitors taking away each other's view. Round thing, that!

The reason why it took the 11 years to build the F1 track lies in the fact that something like this did not exist. They had to develop everything scratchpads on their own. The racetracks are actually specially designed circuit boards with hundreds of little computers that create a moving magnetic field which drags one single car along. A computer program steers the cars, each car has individual characteristics (breaking force, acceleration etc) and thus, each race is different, as the computer creates it „live“ and displays it on the racetrack (by moving the magnetic fields that make the cars move). It took 11 years from the first idea to the finished product. At some point they could not even find a manufacturer that was able to produce the custom made circuit boards they needed in the required quality! It‘s insane!
