I remember many years ago when I considered Shoddycast to be the best channel for Elder Scrolls lore content. Not going to throw any shade at Shoddycast, but Fudgemuppet has definitely earned the title of the best Elder Scrolls channel ever. You guys dig so much deeper into the lore than basically all the other channels, while also keeping up a steady output of quality videos. Thank you guys and I hope you will continue doing Elder Scrolls related videos for a very long time. When TES VI eventuelly releases I hope you’ll still be making them from your respective retirement homes.
Lol, I know what you mean. I’ve actually never played an es game but fudge muppet got me hooked on the lore during Covid. After watching probably hundreds videos about Es lore- I’m starting to feel like I know a respectable amount of it. A few days ago I was suggested shoddy cast videos and I’ve watched their Es lore series. It was very well produced (namely the season 2 with their buttery smooth hired voice actor and cameo of sheo’s real voice actor ) but during season one I was able to get nitpicking with the content (for examples- explanations for race conflicts and interpretations of ideas like dragon breaks). . I think shoddy cast is great for introductory content for new people, but it does lack the depth shown here or even by camel works. Probably my least favorite part of shoddy cast’s lore videos- isn’t their fault- but the comment section was full surface level comments that you might see on just any viral video- packed full of lore misinformation or misconceptions. I like reading the comments here because I feel like I can learn from others. Just a different viewership, I guess.

You guys need to do a podcast on Akatosh and his different interpretations along with his connection to Lorkhan, like how some Shezzarine were also Dragonborn.
Boethia was always my favorite but without a doubt Bethesda seems to have done a great job with in game lore being accurate enough yet simultaneously misinformation enough as to render all of the daedra (really the Aedra as well or for that matter all of the mythologies of Mundus) to be totally misunderstood. Must make for a gold mine for you guys you have nearly infinite material for lore deep dives like these. Kind of makes me want to redo the library house build in Skyrim tbh
Since "Herma Mora" or "The Woodland Man" is one of Hermeus Mora's names, it makes sense that he would be somehow associated with a group called "The Foresters Guild".
1) I absolutely LOVE this video! Mephala is my favorite Prince due to her intriguing Sphere, and this video further confirms that. I feel like you could say she's the "Head" Daedra because of her contribution to civilization and involvement with fate, always being connected to events 2) 28:06 that Ordinator has achieved CHIM because he's vibing through floors! :O
Its funny how fantasy can be therapeutic. Sometimes it helps us better understand our shit but then again it may also be a plain and simple escape route. My parents' generation doesn't quite understand that
Always appreciate it when it isn’t the guy who watched too many documentaries and drones on in similar fashion. I skip so many videos when he’s the narrator. Thanks for doing this one Scott.
Maphala was never my favorite, but she is the most endless potential content mine. Even more than the mystery of Nocturnal or the endless need for upheaval of Mehrunes Dagon. And no matter how much I like to explore Deadric Princes like Nameria or Malacath, you can't actually do a terrible amount with them to expand on their lore than already has been.
I think mephala has more things in common with jyggalag than other princes. I mean they both are all about control. Other through absolute order and other behind the scenes
Excellent video! By the end, I started to perceive Mephala as the Daedric prince of politics: a messy, necessary world full of secrets and affairs (JFK comes to mind). This made it easier for me to understand Mephala as a keeper of civilisation for what use do the primitive, who live by the whims of nature, have of legislation and words? I also couldn't help but to think about a possible rivalry between Mephala en Hermaeus Mora. One creates secrets, the other unfolds them. Anyway, those were my thoughts about Mephala...
I like that halfway through the video I'm like "By Talos, I know nothing of Tamrielic lore". Are you in the Imperial Library? You must be. I was studying the Dwemer in that website years ago and it was a very immersive experience. Either way, my point is...do you have a "basic lore" video I can go to? Either way, I'm going to have a very good time going through your lore videos. Thanks for the wonderful editing and voice over. P.S.: If I could suggest any "improvements", it would be adding text to your videos whenever you're reading passages or quotes from official stuff. Since sometimes there is ALOT to absorb and many different names to remember, it might be interesting to have visual cues. I'm not a fellow content creator so I'm just speaking as a viewer! Thanks again. Cheers from Brazil

The importance of the number 8 and the eight-spoked wheel seem to be clear references to Buddhism, and Mephala in some ways seems very similar to the Hindu goddess Maya, who deceives people into believing material reality exists. It seems like Mephala is important for both maintaining the material world of Nirn through her carnal aspects while also revealing to her followers the path towards Chim, which is itself similar to Nirvana. This would make a great video essay... (I’m not Hindu or Buddhist nor an expert in their theologies, so forgive me if my comparison is off)
The Difference in Secrets: Mora keeps OBJECTIVE truths, never to be revealed unless you find out for yourself or make a deal. Mephala keeps SUBJECTIVE opinions, which she reveals at her discretion for pleasure.
Strange, the Ayleids supposedly were obsessed with the number 8. Could there be a connection between them and Mephala? Seems odd that there would be, given that they seemed to revere Meridia above all others, rather than Mephala.
Mephala was already my favorite Daedric Prince. This video just made that choice indisputable. Now, about that 'god' thing with the Tribunal. False "gods" as they were not born with that power. I'll take Alduin because he is reel. And he ent Akatosh!
I am thrown every time I hear "zero sum" used to describe "yeeting oneself out of existence." I keep thinking of it in terms of "the gains of one side are directly exponential to the losses of the other side." It's taking me time to adjust to the revised 2021 definition. It happened so quickly.
It's fun to do a playthrough starting with the ebony blade, then do the brotherhood and/or thieves guild on mephala's behalf - making off with the sanctuary repair money or the skeleton key to screw your faction over in the end. I like to imagine that in the case of the brotherhood, she would know they would be destroyed by their own actions, and even if they're her people, would see it almost like a fun prank. Or an eradication of something stiff and unimportant that she no longer needs. And assuming you're not playing as the dragonborn - whether mephala is also cheating nocturnal out of the soul of a nightingale, or whether you the player are yourself being screwed and decieved into thinking you'll be safe from nocturnal is up to your own speculation.
until i started watching these videos, i didn't realise how much influence Ludwig Feuerbach's and maybe even Stirner's writings have on elder scrolls lore
I'm interested in the connection between mephala and malacath. I suppose that you cannot have outcasts if there is no agreed-upon order or Society to be cast out from. Great video!
The nature of mundus and the dream of the God head behooves the importance of who is writing the lore and the damage they do when they soften the edges, water down the venom, and devalue the septims with lead. Mephala knows this and seeks to protect her people from the milksop at Bethesda.
Why would Mephala want to "trick" the Morag Tong into worshiping Sithis over her when this would significantly weaken her? I get she's the Daedric Prince of secrets, but this makes her seem more like a stupid, unthinking animal that can only act in her domain, even if it's self destructive? Not to mention, the various examples of Sithis showing his influence and Lucien acknowledging the void's existence.
You know going back I'm less convinced that mephala is the nightmother, and more so namira. It's very likely, but the dark brotherhood is too lorkhan specific and the rites and general fashion of operation screams namira. Not saying boethiah isn't involved but this one feels like joint effort
Mephala being the Night Mother just fits her MO to a T. Being married to "Sithis", the proto Lorkhan, fits her allyship and reverence to Lorkhan in Dunmer and Kajhiiti mythology. Co opting symbols to have power over them which, if this theory is true, is basically what she's doing as the Night Mother. Brings into question the nature of the Night Mother's prayers. Chances are not all prayers are relayed to the Listener but simply the ones that fit Mephala's design.
I've always liked Mephala, but she's still not quite at the top of the list. My favorite is always gonna be Sheogorath, at least as he appears in the accords of madness. As a cunning trickster god with a penchant for breaking the rules and beating other gods at their own games.
My favourite is Hircine because he is the most straightforward and honest of all the daedra and will never fight an unfair fight, or punish creative thinking and clever tactics for survival.
@@rejvaik00 Hircine comes in at number two for me. I do love that he's a sportsman first and foremost. It makes all of his interactions with mortals more interesting. Because yeah, he's not going to trick you because that defeats the purpose of the Hunt. And if you should overcome him and defeat him then he's just as happy for the reversal.
Every time Eorlund Gray-Mane says that (Gods be praised) I instantly hear "Goths be praised". It is the Nordic accent. It makes me wanna start a "gothic" build tho lol
8 is the number of Mephala. 8 is the number of bits in a byte, which is the fundamental storage unit of computers. Multiplying that by 2 gives you 16, the number of bits in a short. Continuing the pattern you then have 32 bits, integer and float; 64 bits, double and long; 128 bits; 256 bits; 512 bits... All multiplies of 8. Therefore, since 8 is Mephala's number, and computing make frequent use of bits in various multiples of 8, computers are secretly machinations of Mephala.
After reading platos allegory of the cave maphala came to mind. The idea of our reality and society being made up of a lie, just shadows on a back wall to keep us preoccupied, its presented by both maphala and plato. She is the deadric god of lies, secrets, murder and sex but understanding her can come with a lot of truth. It's really interesting the comment of a web being both a tool and a trap because by understanding it you can pull the strings and use that lie to your advantage. So interesting making connections like that
Mephala lore has drawn alot of inspiration from the astrological sign Scorpio, after all astrology is really a thousands of years old collection of archetypes.
Dude I gotta say, you explained khim better in this video than you did in the video about it... or at least I think it was your video lol. Anyway I finally get it! Thanks!
The top of my list is Sheogorath... because who doesn't love themselves, no? But I suppose otherwise, Azura would be my favorite. Prince of dusk and dawn as well as the Moonshadow plane... it sounds beautiful. But you, my good sir brought Mephala up to a level where I'm not sure aesthetics alone are a good excuse anymore. All I can say is that you have my attention. Edit: I don't think I have to do this but Sheogorath was just a joke lol
I personally subscribe to a different head canon regarding the Dark Brotherhood. I think of it this way. Woman goes crazy, says her children were born of a being called Sithis, and kills them and herself to be with him. This is supposedly the Night Mother Years later a person hears her voice in his head. No one else can, and directs him to murder. He gathers a cult around a corpse he claims is talking to him. Sounds like madness right? I honestly think it is just that. Madness. It’s all a big prank by Uncle Sheo.
That bit about art got me thinking. Mephala is, in part, the God of Recuperation. The process by which subversive art and ideas are incorporated into the dominant order, sterilised, and co-opted.
Mephala in brief:
*We truly live in a society.*
And when Scott talks about contradiction - lying to yourself somehow makes it true, I realized that it works for propagandas and modern creation myths as well.

When TES VI eventuelly releases I hope you’ll still be making them from your respective retirement homes.
respective retirement homes :) I agree
Even if Besthsda messes up the elder scrolls 6 we have the community to keep it alive.
YES
Exactly. We still have Skyrim and Oblivion, and if we have entertained ourselves with those for the past couple decades....we good homie lol
@@csco8586 no.. no we not good. it's old and stale, and anyone who is still playing these games at this point recognizes this. i would know, i started playing videogames with morrowind.. i played it into oblivion (pun intended) and then played skyrim the past decade as well as going back to morrowind and daggerfall many times throughout the years. these games are not immortal. they cannot provide the thing you want from them forever. there must be new iterations, and properly done as well.
No, please, don't give todd anymore excuses to under deliver
ES5 came out 9 years ago. It's amazing that this video has +20k views. That speaks to the quality of FM videos and the great work that goes into them. Keep up the good work gentlemen!
Watching this further deepens my love for Mephala. I went so far as to build a shrine/room dedicated to Her in my primary residence in ESO.
I remade Spiralskein haha ^^
It seems like there are some decent connections between khajiit lore and dunmer lore, wonder if there's something there...
they're the only ones who accept daedra worship
@@alienbastard55 also "sibling" deadra lords
@@alienbastard55 no so do the aldmeri elves the elves of clan derini.
There is also the reach man.
Mephala, Boethiah, and Azura have always been my favorite of the Princes, and I just realized how fitting that is when it comes to my Khajiit Dragonborn. Even though he grew up mostly outside of Elsweyr, he still feels a deep connection to them.
Things learned in Skyrim: Mephala has the sexiest voice of all the Daedric princes.
Lydia has the same voice actor
@@ravindunandirathna1600 I knew why I always liked Lydia's voice 😁
I dunno. Molag Bal's voice was pretty smooth.
You guys could start another channel on historical mythology. Sumerian, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Norse, Celtic, etc.... I would so follow that! That would be cool. .... or a Lovecraft or Dune channel. Your vids are great.
I would love to hear Drew talk about Lovecraft mythology
Hearing Drew go on for an hour about the works of Lovecraft is now something I very much need in my life.
Do sheogorath next. Make this a series. This was amazing.
Behold! The Loremasters of Fudge have once again read from the Elder Scrolls. And once more have set events in motion....that result in me playing Skyrim until mods destroy my save file and I have to reinstall Skyrim and start fresh.
I made a graphic overhaul following a UA-cam video modlist and now I can only play 30-40 mins of Skyrim until me battery gets to like 20-30% and I have to turn off the game.
Granted, my recharger is ruined (own a laptop) but still...its what I got :)
When the Dread father made terrible love to the night mother, a 2020 love story.
I feel like you could say she's the "Head" Daedra because of her contribution to civilization and involvement with fate, always being connected to events
2) 28:06 that Ordinator has achieved CHIM because he's vibing through floors! :O
Just had a dream about Mephala coming to my room to speak to me last night. Did i just start a quest?
Depends, what did she say?
@@connorscott7659 Frankly, I don't remember. We'll see if she visits again
@@connorscott7659 i'll check my quest log or journal lmao
At least whoever visited you was honest about their deceitfulness. Just keep in mind that you are a human with human limitations.

I’m loving this content. Thank you guys so much. This is really helping me through some hard times. 🥰
Its funny how fantasy can be therapeutic. Sometimes it helps us better understand our shit but then again it may also be a plain and simple escape route. My parents' generation doesn't quite understand that
@@pedrokoury1352 yup
Mephala and Nocturnal are my favorites so this was exciting for me!
Always appreciate it when it isn’t the guy who watched too many documentaries and drones on in similar fashion. I skip so many videos when he’s the narrator. Thanks for doing this one Scott.
Who?
These meta concepts are the best and not a hot take to say they have some credence, Its amazing how stories and songs can show 💫
Honestly I find it really odd how Mephala and Azura can stand each other, let alone be allied.
Didn’t you make a video 2 years ago not to trust Mephala, and yet here you are defending her.
This is indeed the power of Mephala
I think mephala has more things in common with jyggalag than other princes.
I mean they both are all about control.
Other through absolute order and other behind the scenes
As above: "Brother-sister of hermaeus mora" "just say sibbling"
So below: "Whoever he or she may be" "just say they"
Was going to sleep but this changed my mind
Thanks to a combination of interest in Skyrim Lore and Fudge Muppet's detailed vid essays I'm looked at as a master of TES
So THX Fudge Muppet
Excellent video! By the end, I started to perceive Mephala as the Daedric prince of politics: a messy, necessary world full of secrets and affairs (JFK comes to mind). This made it easier for me to understand Mephala as a keeper of civilisation for what use do the primitive, who live by the whims of nature, have of legislation and words?
I also couldn't help but to think about a possible rivalry between Mephala en Hermaeus Mora. One creates secrets, the other unfolds them. Anyway, those were my thoughts about Mephala...
Absolutely loved this. Definitely made me appreciate Mephala and their lore much more.
I love the longer videos. Perfect length for workouts 🙂
Wow, I just realized that I wasn’t subbed. I’m not sure if I accidentally unsubbed previously but I have been watching your channel for over a year and I love it!
Good! These poor guys deserve a million subs
I would gladly see you and other TES historians as an NPCs in newcoming TES. You doing great job extending hidden knowledge for us. Bethesda should be gratefull because with your next video my appreciation for Bethesda made lore is growing up. Thank you Loremaster Muppet.
Cool video but would love to see a podcast about the obscure lore CHIM, towers, C0da, Tiber Septim’s ascension to being a deity, the walking ways etc
I really hope the next game expands the lore. Not only because it would make for an interesting game but because I love these videos
I'm kind of hoping one day we'll get Aedra quests, just like Daedric quests.
(I’m not Hindu or Buddhist nor an expert in their theologies, so forgive me if my comparison is off)
Damn boy you went deep on this one. You're a poet like Vivec!
The quote about gods hands and being armed head to toe in terror is my favorite quote in all of elder scrolls lore
i’ve been very curious about mephala and i’m glad you guys made a video abt them !
I’m pretty sure from hearing all of the lore and theories from you guys that Mephala is my favorite prince. Awesome video.
Loving both your videos and podcasts great for such times your videos and complex concepts compelled me to play morrowind.
Great one guys, this is the Prince I wanted to learn about the most 🙏🙏🙏🙏
The Difference in Secrets:
Mora keeps OBJECTIVE truths, never to be revealed unless you find out for yourself or make a deal.
Mephala keeps SUBJECTIVE opinions, which she reveals at her discretion for pleasure.
Feel like I’ve been watching fudge muppets elder scrolls for YEARS!! Keep up the good work ❤❤
Something I think you should have touched on is Mephala's number 8, in a way, reflects infinity. Like a representation of an Ouroboros symbol.
Strange, the Ayleids supposedly were obsessed with the number 8. Could there be a connection between them and Mephala? Seems odd that there would be, given that they seemed to revere Meridia above all others, rather than Mephala.
The perfect thing for my day off
Just in time for my commute home... Thanks
Mephala was already my favorite Daedric Prince. This video just made that choice indisputable. Now, about that 'god' thing with the Tribunal. False "gods" as they were not born with that power. I'll take Alduin because he is reel. And he ent Akatosh!
Good shit my man
wow, this was amazing! Thank you for making these! :)
I somehow always find myself rewatching these videos every time I fire up a new LO
Dunmer be like "yeah these are the three good daedra" and pick the god of murder and lies, then the god of murder and lies #2
That first quote was so dam good
Dont think I didnt notice that sweet whiterun champion armor from the guard overhaul mod, I'm so glad it's on xbox SE
Mephalas voice in skyrim is hot
I am thrown every time I hear "zero sum" used to describe "yeeting oneself out of existence." I keep thinking of it in terms of "the gains of one side are directly exponential to the losses of the other side." It's taking me time to adjust to the revised 2021 definition. It happened so quickly.
Neat analysis! (Even if I still don't like Mephala that much.)
Thanks for uploading!

I find it interesting how unique the Khajiti conceptions of the Gods are. I wonder who wrote all of that?
I'm interested in the connection between mephala and malacath. I suppose that you cannot have outcasts if there is no agreed-upon order or Society to be cast out from. Great video!
When the KGB recruits Spider-Man.

Mephala be like "we live in a society "
Ah yeah! Daedra lore time! Gods be praised!
Every time Eorlund Gray-Mane says that (Gods be praised) I instantly hear "Goths be praised". It is the Nordic accent. It makes me wanna start a "gothic" build tho lol
8 is the number of Mephala.
8 is the number of bits in a byte, which is the fundamental storage unit of computers. Multiplying that by 2 gives you 16, the number of bits in a short. Continuing the pattern you then have 32 bits, integer and float; 64 bits, double and long;
128 bits; 256 bits; 512 bits... All multiplies of 8.
Therefore, since 8 is Mephala's number, and computing make frequent use of bits in various multiples of 8, computers are secretly machinations of Mephala.
Yeesh, these Daedra and Aedra needs to lighten up~
Also my head exploded around 24:00 It just slid out on the floor...
Mephala does have similarities to Lolth as the Dunmer do have some resemblence to Drow.
Thanks for another great video!
Came for Elder Scrolls lore, got interesting insights on the nature of real politics
Love that voice smooth and sweet like a mad mans lullaby
Dude I gotta say, you explained khim better in this video than you did in the video about it... or at least I think it was your video lol. Anyway I finally get it! Thanks!

Not gonna lie, this just toppled Azura's spot as my favourite
The top of my list is Sheogorath... because who doesn't love themselves, no?
But I suppose otherwise, Azura would be my favorite. Prince of dusk and dawn as well as the Moonshadow plane... it sounds beautiful.
But you, my good sir brought Mephala up to a level where I'm not sure aesthetics alone are a good excuse anymore. All I can say is that you have my attention.
Edit: I don't think I have to do this but Sheogorath was just a joke lol
Was time I was early, Vivec’s muatra wasn’t flaccid.
Keep up the great content, guys! Looking forward to the CyberPunk content as well!
I personally subscribe to a different head canon regarding the Dark Brotherhood. I think of it this way. Woman goes crazy, says her children were born of a being called Sithis, and kills them and herself to be with him. This is supposedly the Night Mother
Years later a person hears her voice in his head.
What an awful political compass
Beautiful I’m tearing out
