I feel like the original spirit that formed Clavicus Vile and Barbus really honed in on the fun of Anu and Padomay's relationship and recreated it in another micro-macrocosm model of the forces of stasis and chaos at eternal play, but uniquely among "Daedra" all within it's own being, for the purpose of capturing that endless drama and excitement. Making them kinda more relatable to Lorkhan and mortals.
He's my favourite Daedric Prince. An idea I had about him is that he may be the only Daedra that regrets not partaking in the creation of Mundus, and splitting his own being, and involving himself with mortals so much is an expression of that.
I remember reading somewhere that Clavicus is the youngest of the daedric princes and as the prince of power and wishes he would have become the most powerful of them, so the other daedric princes devised a plan to divest him of half his power by tricking him into investing that power into another being. They presented him a loyal hound as a gift, and when Clavicus bestowed him with the name Barbas, Vile also unwittingly bestowed half of his power on his new companion.
Better to do a book written by Daedra talking about a strange and esoteric wizard that seems to know an impossible amount of things but especially know things even the princes themselves may not 👀
Whoa I had no clue Clavicus Vile was such an interesting Daedric prince! I love his deal with the devil and jovial vibe. Watching this I really want to play as a champion of Clavicus Vile and do like a Deal Deliverer very rogue like duel personality playthrough. Anyways awesome video as always!
Vile was the first Daedric quest I ever did in Skyrim. . .also a wake up call these beings are not to be fully trusted. . .or bargained with. I think the only reason the Princes didn't find ways to completely screw over the Dragonborn is because they find him/her 'entertaining'.
He sees all the other Daedras always try to have influence on the Dragonborn: try to make them carry some of the Daedra's... 'investments'. Probably the reason why Vile refrains from screwing the Dragonborn is because he too doesn't want to lose his chance to... bind the Dragonborn... to make them owe Him in some way... Just like all the other Daedras are doing.
@@gendoruwo6322 After my past couple of play through I came to this conclusion- *Azura, Malacth, Vile, Sheogorath and Sanguine let the DB go on his/her merry way without any conditions or demands of being a servant.* The rest of the Princes - "The Last Dragonborn serves me now!" Mora(Dragonborn DLC) - "The Last Dragonborn is my slave now!" Wouldn't be surprised if there are a book or two in the next TES(provided it takes place after Skyrim) that talk about a war among the Princes and who got to control the Last Dragonborn.
@@chadharger9323 i’d also argue that the rest of the daedric princes that you have quests for have a bit of a split, with Meridia being an obvious outlier, due to the interesting position she holds among the daedra anyway. I mean, you can tell her you’re not going to spread her religion and she doesn’t care - she simply wants you to cleanse the world of the undead whilst you’re alive. something you are probably doing somewhat ANYWAY. her conditions for taking her artefact are minimal - fight the undead whilst you’re alive with this sword that’s rather good at doing that specific task. and she bestows that sword upon you for clearing her temple of necromancy. she still expects you to do stuff for her, yes, but it’s relatively standard for you. Nocturnal is also interesting - what she expects is for you to fix Mercer’s mess, and then protect the Twilight Sepulchre, including after you die, but it doesn’t seem like that is necessarily an infinite amount of time. In return, you get some pretty nice armour and a cool looking sword and bow, along with a power you can use once a day (that’s a pretty sweet deal, even if she does say that the deal is weighted in her favour to Karliah - you do get a fair amount from Nocturnal in return for service). Whilst obviously it is still a deal that includes service to her, it’s notably less favourable towards her when compared to other daedric princes and the deals they strike.
- I like the idea that he gave humanoids the ability to domesticate dogs, or even that he was just so known to early peoples that they wanted to emulate him by domesticating dogs so they could have a doggo companion to honor him
I remember seeing a theory somewhere that clavicles vile while being a Daedra regretted not partaking in the creation of Mundus. This might be due to the fact he can play with the creations as much or the fact the aedra usually get the attention and praise from mortals. His realm is called the "fields of regrets" not only due to the regret of the people being there but also it being his regrets, it being one of the most similar planes to mundus in atmosphere and culture could be his attempt to make his own version of it to satisfy that need.
The juxtaposition of Clavicus vile with Mara (2 to 1 vs. 1 to 2) kind of makes it sound like Vile is Daedric Prince of Divorce. There are a few interesting points along that line (be careful what you wish for, having to be outgoing and charming because you're back on the market...) even if it might ultimately break down.
I have a personal theory that if tamriel were to enter the next kalpa cycle, Vile would be one of the main forces to reverse or delay it due to the fact he wouldn't want to loose the current mortal realm. That and it would fit his domain, Subverting the enviable for personal gain and maintaining his hold (and fun) in the spheres of mortals. But this isn't fully thought out, just a thought I had while reading lore throughout the games.
I like how Clavicus is a recurring character from Daggerfall to Skyrim and ESO. He's a interesting Daedra Prince. Great Video, keep up the good work!👍🏽
With Daedric princes having dual natures, one they proclaim and one that is a more subtle and underlying trait. After some thought, I think Vaermina's goal is to circumvent to process of life and death. Whereas Molag Bal is doing it in spite of Arkay, Vaermina does it in envy. •Vaermina's followers use the miasma which has the effect to slow aging • If all you do is sleep, you are less likely to engage in activities that might kill you (as anything could kill you) • Thinking of what fear is, it is a primal response avoid danger. You are afraid of things that would ultimately kill you. She wants to scare you OF death • She works in the dream realm similar to the concept of and in envy of the dreamsleeve If she can keep you alive and incapacitated, she circumvents both life and death, providing her own supplement for reality sacrificed for her having ultimate control. She is greed, she wants everything to herself, but she is willing to give the benefits of her realm to persuade those to leave behind what they had. The only time she can't have you is when you die, it takes someone alive to sleep. She is like Hermeous Mora, she doesn't explicitly care to rule, just hoarding everything to herself. She is greed. Greedy people lie, cheat, and steal. She lies about reality, she cheats the process of life and death, and she steals memories and dreams. If you don't worship, her she scares you about things you don't want to happen to you in the real world. If you do worship her, you live as a God, she becomes the God head and you control the dream.
I think what Mora wants is to absorb all and not just knowledge. It wants the secret of the Dragonborn's soul absorption. Imagine the ability to absorb more than just dragons souls. Becoming true living Soul Stone. Animals, monsters, intelligent mortal races. Perhaps even the Princes and even the Divines. Mora is gluttony personified and if ever unlocked the power of the Dragonborn then who would be safe?
I like to think Barbas is adventurer of old. A real smart fellow. Who managed to trick Clavicus to share his power but as always, Clavicus did his part of the deal in his own fashion. I mean the split personality is so boring. "Its such a cliche" :)
Obviously this is the best video ever! See Scott really is my friend he said so many flattering things... HA! you all said I only had friends that I created! I have Barbas, Umbra, and Todd Howard... sure I made them, But they are all great. Also I told you all a girl once talked to me, She even touched my hand... Umbra was all... part of my plan yes! And no she was not a swamp hag she was lovely ♡ Who among us doesn't like creating our own friends and have cultists who love them and think they grant the best and fairest wishes and have better bargains than even Belethor? So basically I am the best and most handsome and you should all come to my shrine.
This is great, I love all of your content but when you guys go in-depth on Daedric Princes and the Divines it's insanely good, I enjoy studying Gods and religions in real life and I love Elder Scrolls so this kind of thing strikes a special sweet spot for me. You're like an Elder Scrolls theologian!
Likely the mortal prince who became Clavicus had a dog as a child, and Ambrosius...er, i mean, Barbus...is born from the prince's memories of that childhood pet, rather from the actual dog itself. As memories of the dog began at the age where children are still learning of the division twixt self and other, a being created to incarnate those memories is not wholly seperate from the rememberer.
Clavicus Vile's gifts often come with an enormous price, so could Vile's gift to the Cyrodiil Vampyrum Order be too good to be true? Could the Vile's teachings to the Order lead to the doom of Cyrodiil's vampires - traditionally the servants of rival prince Molag Bal? Using Vile's gifts, the Order was able to wipe out all rivals in the province. However, the last clan of vampires in Cyrodiil is on shaking grounds as their power and safety depends on a declining empire.
Loved this video, I've been debating what I wanted my new character to be in terms of Wintersun deity and playstyle. I have now been convinced to do a conjuration/illusion rogue thanks to how interesting you guys made Vile out to be. Great lore vids, please keep them coming!
I'm just glad I made it into this video, thanks for not forgetting about me. Also you brought up a good point about Barbas in being that he's usually the more responsible one and "the voice of reason" between the two. That's why I found his role in the Vvardenfell so odd. It seemed like he was doing it just to make his master happy to win favor with him. Usually when we encounter Barbas he's actively trying to discourage us from giving into Vile's whims, and giving him the artifact he desires, in order to protect him from himself. I dunno it just kinda seemed out of character to me.
Key phrase you said was “protect vile from himself” the vvardendall incident had 2 other princes involved with a goal for infinite existence that does just as barbas’s base goal is which is to protect his master also tho Barbas is the voice of reason he’s also a loyal dog if told to do so no matter what he’ll follow suit with whatever plot Clavicus Vile tells him to
Also the way that he gets his full powers from himself and his dog kinda remind me of Coyote Starrk from Bleach, same way coyote splits himself and him power into 2 new beings who need each other since the original Coyote hated to be alone
Dear Fudgemuppet, I've been trying forever to find a playlist, podcast or anything the COMPLETE timeline and history of the Elder Scrolls lore. Basically their big bang theory. How the Aedra and Daedra and Nirn we're created, the complete timeline and history of Tampriel and all the races thereof same with the other continents such as Akivir and Atmora and whatnot. PLEASE look into this I beg of you.
Eh, it is funny when people freak out about Clavicus Vile, if you know the prince's sphere it becomes easier to figure out their true intentions. Clavicus Vile is the Daedric Prince of Trickery and Pacts, do not come to him if you are unaware of how deals work. Deals always work by the letter and require people to be specific about what they want. Example: My Wish: "Clavicus Vile, I want you to end world hunger." Clavicus Vile's Response: "Granted, you will be enlarged and served to the world for every meal. No more world hunger." or "Granted, everyone will be killed in about 10 seconds. No more world hunger." Problem: The request only covered the "what" aspect of what you intend to be accomplished. That gives him many options to fulfill your wish. I couldn't cover all the possibilities of everything he could come up with and that is a problem. Example: Player's Wish: "Lord Vile, I have a request of you. An end to the civil war that plagues my land." or "Lord Vile, I have a request of you. The power to crush all before me!" Clavicus Vile's Loophole: "Now, as for your wish... An end to the war, was it? I'll make sure this war ends, all right. Just as soon as the dragons swarm across Skyrim and wipe out all of you puny..." or "Now, as for your wish... Power, was it? You can be part of a tremendous power - all you have to do is let your soul be absorbed by this axe. I never said it would be your power..." Problem: Like the first one, you just defined what you wanted but, left out how and when. Solution: When you make a deal with anyone, who, what, where, why, when, and how should always be answered in the contract. Clavicus Vile just takes advantage of an individual's lack of clarity and most loopholes are due to a lack of clarification or missed details in contracts. Clavicus Vile ends up keeping his word believe it or not. Contracts focus on what is agreed on at the time, not what one party intended to mean, but didn't. Generalization spells disaster.
I can see Clavicus and Barbas as a stereotypical right brain/left brain split (born of boredom and literally “talking to yourself”), but at the end of the day, the emotional side holds a bit more power over the other
I think you have unwittingly revealed the origin of the headless horseman. For you see he was a vile worshiper praying to his God, then when his master finally appeared to him he cried "I want to be more like you". Interpreting this literally, the rueful axe was produced and a head was severed. Only later remembering that mortals don't come apart like that.
Legends I may not comment on every video but I love and always appreciate Fudgemuppet videos. I’m so thankful for my favourite content creators and all they do for us Bethesda fans. And with UA-cam we can go back and re watch videos and helpful guides whenever we want. Praise talos ❤❤❤
It is obvious that Clavicus Vile has no respect for ethics, he knows exactly what his 'clients' want and yet he purposefuly always try to thwart it. He's a bad actor : always one with the malevolent intent against others, if not now then eventually. And he has established reputation for this too: that you can not expect that he'll play nice nor fair with you. It's sane thing to do to refuse to deal with him, just shun him, ignore him. So WTH do all these people still want to deal with him? I guess what is most fascinating about Clavicus Vile is not Clavicus Vile himself, but his... clientele: their foolishness, or their arrogance, or their desperation, their lust and desires, their frustrations, their dreams... etc. No matter how treacherous making a deal with Vile would be, people will still want to take their chances. If there's one Daedra with strongest argument that mortals are so Fccked... Clavicus Vile is the one. As most losers say in the beginning: "It's different this time guys! It will work, I know it will."
he’s like depictions of genies/djinns - taking what you say, not what you INTEND, and seeking to fuck you over. now, what i would like to see is someone knowledgeable on this, and drawing up a full contract with various clauses about what is expected and what is not. with incredibly specific wording.
Haven’t seen a comment about this yet but the thumbnails are looking mint a lot better then the ones with a yellow back drop imo, keep up the good work always love to see a new vid in my recommendations!!
I think the idea that Barbas "serves" clavicus is misguided. I think Barbas knows very much that he is picking up the "dropped responsiblity" of Clavicus Vile. When you find him in skyrim he even tells you "don't listen to anything he says." Vile wants power and freedom, and wants barbas gone because he thinks it will give him actual power. Whereas if we look into it, we k ow that "killing" barbas just resets barbas. It resets his half. Vile could convert back to what it wants, but barbas knows why they seperated; so that the part of him who doesn't enjoy fulfilling things can enjoy itself, whereas barbas can enjoy fulfilling him. Hence why he agrees with him being a master. Barbas in a physical form knows Vile needs him so he asks you to bring them back together, despite knowing Vile will ask to kill you because Vile thinks it will give him his full power but, not just that, release him from Barbas' responsibility mindset
Like they separated because the original Aedra wanted to "kill himself" because of his desire but decided to separate his halves, meaning Vile is the half that "wants to kill himself"
It would be fun if there were to be a madman in ES6 with multiple personalities, and one of them is literally Clavicus trying to socialize with the other personalities.
Clavicus reminds me more of Loki. Given the dogs name is Barbos it's probably more likely Vile is an interpretation from Arts Goetia aka Book of Deamons
I always though Barbus was a daedra that fell for some kind of deal but then somehow turned it around where he lived by bound by Vile and punishing him all the same. But thats just head canon
Using your theme of Clav being The Daedric God of Boredom, that kind of makes Barbas his Comfort Animal.. i.e. A Service Dog for a Being with Depression. 🐕🦺
Okay...okay, hear me out FudgeMuppet. What if, as you have stated and speculated, since nobility have a habit of making deal with Clavicus Vile...What if the Emperor from Skyrim, Titus Mede II, made a deal with Clavicus? What if his death was the cost? What if he approached Clavicus and offered his soul in exchange for something precious to the Empire? Such as...securing the throne against the Elves in a way that they wouldn't be able to suspect, or fight against? What if...he not only martyred himself, but set up affairs in such a way that he himself knew would never be seen as an option to the Elves?
Now I can’t unsee Clavicus Vile as just a kid or like preteen, blowing raspberries at people when he gets upset. And/or basically just kinda like The Collector from the Owl House 😂
This is awesome! He's such a "Tom Sawyer" kind of personality! I really like how we can begin assessing Daedra less as context-less ideas and more like distinct characters - which they very much are. The very act of *experiencing* existence rather than simply existing involves internalization and the formation of a character - and timeless beings have indefinite context by which to become very nuanced characters!
@juscbh BHUVSDSDVBHJWSDV Nah, it's the opposite. Characters are more complex than "the idea of X" I used to feel like you did, but then I realized it's just hollow dramatic buildup with no substance. In order for your "inhuman divinity" to make any sense, it can't ever speak, or react to anything. Literally the moment you add context, reactions, or the ability to communicate, that entity becomes a humanized character. That shit only works for Lovecraft because those "inhuman" deities don't ever speak - they're never given remotely human characteristics or abilities. Elder Scrolls deities are, and always have been, humanized characters. That's a good thing, because that means they can have complex nuance that a god you're intentionally trying to distill and simplify can't ever have.
I'd be very interested in being a friend of Vile, one could present it as a bargain; "In exchange for you being my friend, I will be yours" and just see what we would get up to 😂😂
A vampire worshipping Clavicus Vile is kinda Nuts and desperate as fuq for a predator of the night you mine as well worship sheogorath because that’s just madness
Clavicus kinda reminds me of Slaanesh from the Warhammer universe in that he thrives from mortals doing their mortal buisness. And much like Slaanesh does, I feel like he would actively hinder largescale attempts by the other princes to end/dominate nurn as the end of the world would be boring in his eyes bc he has more playthings. I also feel like Sanguine would probs do the same thing.
My fan theory, the child god is the youngest god, born from the first deal, to make nurn. So he is neither an Aedra or deadra. He, as is his nature, makes deals, but due to the birth of his nature, is prone to making tricks, for entertainment or to teach a lesson, making nurn being the easier, more entertaining alternative to that other realm they were suppose to create (according to redguards). This could also be one long way to spread the message, be careful what you wish for. He tricks people with the hopes that theyll learn the value of honest work, the lesson that nothing is free, and the lesson not to trust the deadra or eadra. I reckon he couldve been a satyr, which are mischevious, horned, deal makers and also helpful, they also have a history with mercantilism. He could also be the horned god, cernunnus, the celtic god of the forest and balance (dont take to much and general forestry), but due to the roman influence rather than celtic or nordic, ide say Vile is a satyr. I think when the responsibility and care he had was too much for him, so he split into too, the irresponsible, fun loving man, and the loyal beast of burden which is family (although sometimes open to mistreatment, especially historically). Dont mistreat the Aedra and Daedra, dont make deals, work hard and have fun honestly.
I have a theory about Umbra. The sword contains millions of souls & if Clavicus Vile claims it back and wields it, the souls in the sword infuse into Clavicus Vile rendering Umbra useless and making him very overpowered just like Jyggalag. The Daedric of Domination Molag Bal would be drawn to him for he will hear and see all the slain souls within Clavicus, if they both fight & Molag wins he will harvest both Clavicus & the souls for he is called The Havester of Souls which in turn would give Molag Bal a great motivation to try and created a 2nd Planemeld. So Clavicus would have to hide Umbra in his realm but never use it nor offer it to his Champion in Tamriel, because his Champion might deliver Umbra to Molag Bal himself. Comment below if you agree or disagree.
also when u really think about it.. just my opinion .. all the daedra and aedra are "weaker" then humans and in a way wanna be humans.. we humans are all the things each and every daedra and aedra is specific too when it comes to emtions and feelings and views.. we are all of them in one.. despite we may lack actual raw power and magic the gods do...butt we are everything at once they are specific too.. might explain why they are so obsessed with nirn what lorkan and the divines made in the first place... they dont care about world itself rather what lives in and on it.. US.. the mortals... not sure why claivicous/barbas of all people makes me think about this.. maybe the fact that him being "all powerful" yet gives and gives of himself in a literal sense seems like the aedra.. reminds me of humans and their entire compass of emotions.. that "vunerablity" find a reason to live by "opening up" aka making urself more vunerable.. aka "weaker" in a sense in clavicous case.. makes me consider clavicus ultimate fate.. is that of the aedra.. where he over the course of his entire being.. will eventually give himself fully over to nirn.. PIECE BY PIECE in the long term as opposed to the divine and other aedra that did so all at once or in a short time fully gave themselves to nirn.. what im saying is.. clavicious just may indeed claim the right to be a divine one day... if talos can be a divine via his unqiue way.. lets be real.. lorkin is a aedra... thus shor is one..thus talos is too... so who are we to say there isnt another way thats just as unique.. thats how i view clavicous.. hes LATE to the party butt hes here and slowly really slowly giving himself to nirn.. bit by bit.. till NOTHING is left and he's more or less in that same state as the divine... so like a "immgrant" divine or "naturalized citizen" divine.. as in he may not have help found the nation butt contributed the most to it by helping it in his own way... IF yes.. hed be an interesting "divine" made up of countless aspects from most aweful to the most wonderful of blessings lol that is if he is broken down completely and is countless pieces in the world hed be the divine of "yo just create reasons to have fun in life and not be bored and stressed" and barabs fate being the same.. the responsiblity comes with it... so there'd be balance FOR THE MOST PART lmao
I never understood why the provinces of Tamriel allow the statues of daedric princes to be built. Most people consider them evil, so why do they allow massive statues like Azuras or Mehrunes Dagons to dominate the landscape?
You have to understand that the in-game areas are NOT to scale. Skyrim is MASSIVE, it basically encompasses the whole of northern Tamriel. And many of Daedric worshippers do so FAR away from civilization, especially far in the north where it's freezing cold and blizzards are recurring. Not to mention the wilds of Mundus is something to be weary of; trolls, witches, predators, Falmer, etc, etc.
Because they don't know they're being built. Look at Oblivion, every daedric statue is built out in the middle of nowhere. And some places actively worship Daedra, and have no problems with statues of them
So..could Clavicus' triune existence (Vile/Barbas/Umbra) be some sort of trinity|triad case, like Patris/Filii/Spiritus sancti, or Osiris/Isis/Horus? Maybe this enables him to rejuvenate his inner child through eons?...Allowing him to maintain equilibrium of sorts, perhaps. I mean, this is the way Vile remains relatively sane, unagressive, 'balanced' Daedra, despite his mischievous, Machiavellian ways, unlike vicious psychopaths such as Molag Bal or Boethia, or Sheogorath for instance...Sorry for my shitty English, it's not an easy task to formulate stuff like you do :-) Thanks for the yummy video, certainly provides plentiful food for thought!
@juscbh BHUVSDSDVBHJWSDV a god can be many things, including being a perpetual child/maintain a facet of a child. For example see Horus the child who was also known as Harpokrates or Herupakhered (Horus the Child or Horus the Younger), a god-son and a fully developed deity while still an infant.
I can't tell which Daedric Prince I would worship, Hermaeus Mora and Clavicus Vile are the 2 frontrunners though. I've been playing these since Morrowind and still can't decide😂

Whilst obviously it is still a deal that includes service to her, it’s notably less favourable towards her when compared to other daedric princes and the deals they strike.
how on earth can you guys keep pumping videos on elder scrolls? how deep does this rabbithole of a lore go?
I mean what is a divorce if not getting out of a pact? I can see it lol
The idea is more though out then vile would give it
I believe he would change side when too bored...
This video was really, really nice. I hope you still plan on doing such a thorough and deep analysis for the remaining princes!
•Vaermina's followers use the miasma which has the effect to slow aging
• If all you do is sleep, you are less likely to engage in activities that might kill you (as anything could kill you)
• Thinking of what fear is, it is a primal response avoid danger. You are afraid of things that would ultimately kill you. She wants to scare you OF death
• She works in the dream realm similar to the concept of and in envy of the dreamsleeve
If she can keep you alive and incapacitated, she circumvents both life and death, providing her own supplement for reality sacrificed for her having ultimate control.
And no she was not a swamp hag she was lovely ♡
Who among us doesn't like creating our own friends and have cultists who love them and think they grant the best and fairest wishes and have better bargains than even Belethor?
So basically I am the best and most handsome and you should all come to my shrine.
Criminally underrated comment lmao you been waiting a year for this vid drop 😂
I'd come back to your shrine more often if it wasn't always infested with vampires who want to eat me. Like, it's not bad, just annoying.
@@jasonsilvernail1450 I mean I am exhausted of their whinning so you could get rid of them for us both... 😈
@@toeleg indeed I have, TY TY for the compliment ☺️
Stop fuqing with my deals I just want a cool mask for my face to marry Lydia in
This is great, I love all of your content but when you guys go in-depth on Daedric Princes and the Divines it's insanely good, I enjoy studying Gods and religions in real life and I love Elder Scrolls so this kind of thing strikes a special sweet spot for me. You're like an Elder Scrolls theologian!
Perfect timing! I just started an illusion assassin that worships clavicus vile
And the bro is still going strong with the videos props for all the lore.
I absolutely love these lore videos! I can't wait until you get to maphala and Nocturnal ❤️❤️❤️ this is my favorite UA-cam channel
Fudgemuppet’s amazing B roll is extremely underrated within the Elder Scrolls UA-camrs genre.
When I first talked to barbas in skyrim, it reminded me of "all dogs go to heaven" for some reason haha
Great video! Loving all the daedra lore 😊
Bros thumbnail style is so much like theepicnate every time I see an upload I think it’s a new Nate video 😭
Loved this video, I've been debating what I wanted my new character to be in terms of Wintersun deity and playstyle. I have now been convinced to do a conjuration/illusion rogue thanks to how interesting you guys made Vile out to be. Great lore vids, please keep them coming!
Clavicus Vile: The living casino where the House always wins.
Key phrase you said was “protect vile from himself” the vvardendall incident had 2 other princes involved with a goal for infinite existence that does just as barbas’s base goal is which is to protect his master also tho Barbas is the voice of reason he’s also a loyal dog if told to do so no matter what he’ll follow suit with whatever plot Clavicus Vile tells him to
An Orc warrior wouldn't mind the loss of Intelligence from drinking the Bitter Cup because nobody else would notice the difference
Also the way that he gets his full powers from himself and his dog kinda remind me of Coyote Starrk from Bleach, same way coyote splits himself and him power into 2 new beings who need each other since the original Coyote hated to be alone
What armor mods were used for this video? It looks very good.
Who tf does your cinematic shots, they looks so good all the time!!!
I love these because I can just listen to them while cooking or cleaning
27:47 me who never finished the quest to keep barbas as my follower
“I think not”
Clavicus Vile gives me much more of a Mythological Loki vibe
Example:
My Wish: "Clavicus Vile, I want you to end world hunger."
Clavicus Vile's Response: "Granted, you will be enlarged and served to the world for every meal. No more world hunger." or "Granted, everyone will be killed in about 10 seconds. No more world hunger."
Problem: The request only covered the "what" aspect of what you intend to be accomplished. That gives him many options to fulfill your wish. I couldn't cover all the possibilities of everything he could come up with and that is a problem.
Example:
Player's Wish: "Lord Vile, I have a request of you. An end to the civil war that plagues my land." or "Lord Vile, I have a request of you. The power to crush all before me!"
Clavicus Vile's Loophole: "Now, as for your wish... I never said it would be your power..."
Problem: Like the first one, you just defined what you wanted but, left out how and when.
Videos like this just prove how well-written TES lore is.
Really enjoyed this one, can't wait for the next dive into another daedric prince!
I really like your idea about how he interacted with early nedes heavily
I can see Clavicus and Barbas as a stereotypical right brain/left brain split (born of boredom and literally “talking to yourself”), but at the end of the day, the emotional side holds a bit more power over the other
Great video ! I've always liked the idea that Clavicus Vile and Barbas are the two parts of a single Daedric Prince, it seems very convincing to me.
Sooooooo the god of polotics then, got it!
Haven’t seen a comment about this yet but the thumbnails are looking mint a lot better then the ones with a yellow back drop imo, keep up the good work always love to see a new vid in my recommendations!!
it cracks me up that clavicus is like ight its getting boring lets make some drama
Shoutout to Calvicus for having the coolest looking artifact out there
- I like him because he always hangs out with his puppers :)
Top notch content !
Video, storytelling, lore, it all flows perfectly and keeps you engaged.
I think the idea that Barbas "serves" clavicus is misguided. I think Barbas knows very much that he is picking up the "dropped responsiblity" of Clavicus Vile. When you find him in skyrim he even tells you "don't listen to anything he says."
Vile wants power and freedom, and wants barbas gone because he thinks it will give him actual power.
Honestly, I can't imagine a better life than being bad ass demon prince who spends all his existence with his loyal, talking dog.
I think something similar except instead of another daedra it was a mortal.
Happy Birthday Skyrim! 11/11/11 was 11 years ago today!
This was a really good video. Thanks FudgeMuppet
"do not be fooled"
"ruh roh Scooby...."
So, Vile is... the Dogfather? =^[.]^=
Love the daedric Prince lore!!
Now I can’t unsee Clavicus Vile as just a kid or like preteen, blowing raspberries at people when he gets upset.
And/or basically just kinda like The Collector from the Owl House 😂
Clavicus seems pretty chill tbh
After the Smash or pass podcast episode I just can’t see Clavicus the same, love ya guys, great video as usual, gotta share!
Thanks guys great job.
Characters are more complex than "the idea of X"
I used to feel like you did, but then I realized it's just hollow dramatic buildup with no substance.
Never thought of Molag Bal as an Incel, but honestly, it fits.
If one has power
I've watched all of this series so far and am really looking forward to Hircine.
Ok but Barbus looks really eerie in some of thses shots
Also nice to see another daedra video
Okay, Barbas is my favourite Daedric Prince.
I like the remake of the mask mod, it actually made me want to get this drastic artifact. The original was just not doing it for me
@Bronceano It’s called “Masque of Clavicus Vile”
Masque of Clavicus Vile Replacer. There is a stand alone mod but I’d choose the replacer
Would love to see a video on vampires
The double prince!
Can you guys do an extended video on Needs and their hard fought war for freedom
He and Ryuk from Death Note would be the best of friends; just fucking with mortals for eternity.
Team Muppet putting in the work.🤣😂😝
Clavicus kinda reminds me of Slaanesh from the Warhammer universe in that he thrives from mortals doing their mortal buisness.
IF yes..
hed be an interesting "divine" made up of countless aspects from most aweful to the most wonderful of blessings lol that is if he is broken down completely and is countless pieces in the world
hed be the divine of "yo just create reasons to have fun in life and not be bored and stressed" and barabs fate being the same.. the responsiblity comes with it...
so there'd be balance FOR THE MOST PART lmao
I never understood why the provinces of Tamriel allow the statues of daedric princes to be built. Most people consider them evil, so why do they allow massive statues like Azuras or Mehrunes Dagons to dominate the landscape?
It's called freedom of speech you eurocommie
You have to understand that the in-game areas are NOT to scale. Skyrim is MASSIVE, it basically encompasses the whole of northern Tamriel. And many of Daedric worshippers do so FAR away from civilization, especially far in the north where it's freezing cold and blizzards are recurring.
Not to mention the wilds of Mundus is something to be weary of; trolls, witches, predators, Falmer, etc, etc.
Because they don't know they're being built. Look at Oblivion, every daedric statue is built out in the middle of nowhere. And some places actively worship Daedra, and have no problems with statues of them
Why did we get the Walmart brand Great Value version of this mask in Skyrim XD the model in this video looks so amazing XD
I forgot about Grate Value products at Walmart
I always loved clavivus vile and I always thought of him and one of the most influential deadra
"Buyer Beware" made manifest, that one...
I mean, this is the way Vile remains relatively sane, unagressive, 'balanced' Daedra, despite his mischievous, Machiavellian ways, unlike vicious psychopaths such as Molag Bal or Boethia, or Sheogorath for instance...Sorry for my shitty English, it's not an easy task to formulate stuff like you do :-)
Thanks for the yummy video, certainly provides plentiful food for thought!
Was just rewatching your episode on clavicus vile from your podcast yesterday. My favourite Daedric Prince!
...I'm sorry, the most I'm going to take away from this video is your calling Molag Bal an incel. (At about 24 minutes in.) 😆 I love it.
A Dawn Era ES game would be so awesome. Surprised some moding group hasn't made one.
He is my favorite prince
