    I do yellow highlight for literally anything that stands out, and I do a green highlighter for anything that refers to Christ in the Old Testament. In the New Testament, I highlight green if its something that God answered my prayer or it applies directly to me in my current life. Its a very good system with only two colors. Although I really like your system hahaha. God bless.

    I just started marking in one of my Bibles using a black micron and yellow highlighter. I’ve used color coded systems in the past but I get overwhelmed. So far I’ve really enjoyed the simplicity of only using one or two colors to just mark those passages and words which stand out, and to take notes.

      It can be pretty overwhelming to mark with several colors. I love marking with a simple system. I started doing it about a year ago with my Allan ESV NCR. I'd like to read through that one again. You should do a video of your marking system.

    The best idea on internet so far. Use 1 colour for both pens (underline & highlight) Yellow does not get in the way. Use K.I.S.S. acronym Thankyou.

    Another great video Joe! I like the one color system for the "one" Bible😉 Having always used a multi-color system, I like this simplified approach. Also, I like to use clear or at least see-thru rulers for underlining as it helps to see where I am on the page. This is especially helpful for making boxes around words. Just my 2 cents😄

    • @joesbibles5636

      I tried to use the see-thru rulers but I wasn't skilled enough to use them because they kept sliding on me. My NASB Schuyler has a few underlines that were missed. But I'm glad it works for you. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching the video.

    I have been writing in my Bible since I was 4 years old, and I am now in my 60s. I use a pen in red or blue and a ruler. I often write at the bottom or the margins. As in confer with such or such book,page such and paragraph such. This ties in scripture with other books I have read. May God bless all this Thanksgiving.

    Hi Joe! Thank you so much for doing this video. I've been looking at how to color code my Bible too to have a more in depth study of it, but I've become the frozen chosen with all of the methods that are out there that confuse me on which highlighters and pens or pencils to use. Now I have a wide margin Bible and haven't touched it because I don't know how to start coding it so I think I'm going to start with the one color system.😊

    Found your channel just now when searching for Schuyler bible colors. Great idea! I use a new bible to write my notes in each year. This year I opted to just stick to a black no bleed sharpie felt tip pen verses using any colored ink and it's so much less distracting, and quicker to add my notes as well. I also got some pastel muted tone bible highlighters and if I want to go back and highlight a verse I do so, without it being a distraction. I am planning on adding the Schuyler wide margin bible as my main note hub but I really don't want it to be too busy or distracting to read once my notes are in there. Thinking of going with a gray sharpie no bleed pen for that maybe and maybe a muted gray highlighting for the verses. When I am just reading through and don't want to add notes or markings, I will use post it flags to mark a scripture I want to come back to and/or use a mini notebook to write down the verse numbers and a quick thought or question I had to come back and dig into later during my study time.

    Thanks. I realized the highlighting at least with the bright colors was great while I was reading but prevented me from seeing what I highlighted afterwards because I would see the color shape on the page vs the highlighted words. Have been looking for 'minimalist' approaches to marking my Bible. I like the lighter highlighters and yellow. Cool how you can mark over it.

    When I first highlighted in a Bible, I used red. All I marked were prayers in scripture.
    The next Bible I used yellow, again, only highlighted prayers.

      This is exactly my thoughts too. Every time I get ambitious to use numerous colors I stall out as it interrupts my flow. I’m OCD. Also, I find darker colors distracting and worry that it will later get in the way of new thoughts. A single yellow is a great idea! I have a wide margin so will likely use only yellow in the text and black micron in the margin.

    It's so nice to see a Bible that does NOT look like someone was painting in it! Maybe it's a girl vs. guy thing? I'm a woman and can't stand that flowery / scrapbook thing people call "Bible journaling" these days. But, hey, to each their own.
    I've stopped highlighting/underlining/taking notes in my Bible these days. When I did, I also used a ruler because I can't draw or highlight straight lines to save my life. But the ink would always get on the edge of the ruler and make a mess either on the page or when I picked it up. Do you have that problem?
    I'm also apparently the only person on this planet that had a bad experience with Micron pens. It bled through, even though I was writing very lightly. It also dried out surprisingly quickly, even though I always kept it capped and inside a case. I've never found any pen that worked well for me for Bible underlining/note taking. Everyone swears by Micron, but it didn't work for me. Maybe I got a defective one? I don't know. I just remember being disappointed because everyone always said they worked so well and had no (or limited) show through/bleed through.
    Anyway, thank you. I love seeing neat looking Bibles/note taking and well cared for Bibles. "Well used" doesn't have to mean your Bible looks like it got chewed on by a puppy, torn up by a toddler, caught in a flood, or went through a war.

      @joesbibles5636  2 роки тому +2

      Chris J Wilson is commenting on MY video??? What??? I love your channel! Thanks for the comment. Yeah, "less thinking" is about how having just one color helps me to not think too much about which color to use. I know the verse is important to me but sometimes a verse is loaded with meaning and covers several topics - grace? mercy? love? etc. So the one color helps me to go faster by thinking less about which color to underline something.

      I can totally understand your perspective. In fact I’ve gone back to just using a pigma micron in my journal bible for similar reasons. It can be tricky to make a snap decision over which category something applies to especially as there may be something later in the chapter / section that adds more.

    I tried to use different colors and a color system and I just couldn't do it. Just couldn't come up with a good code. So instead I only use two pens: a black Micron Pigma for underlining and note taking. And I use a yellow highlighter for highlighting. That's it. Ohhhh, yes, I am OCD as well and I use a clear ruler so I can see how far below the next line is.
    I use this system whether in my edc NASB Preachers Bible or in my stay at home NASB SCR WM Premium Bible. I use my system because like you said, you don't have to stop and think what color you need for underlining or writing your notes.

    I have marked Bibles in the past and made notes but I no longer want to as I now prefer to keep my Bible free of marking and colours
    I make bible study notes in a notebook, and write verses out in a special journal that are especially meaningful
    I also now prefer to keep my Bible free of marking or notes because I now feel it shows respect for the sacredness of the text; the orginal scrolls would not have been marked
    It's also really not necessary there are other ways to achieve what you may be trying to do by marking such as a special note taking system in a notebook
    The more you have read and studied the Word and hopefully spen't time memorizing scripture the more you will find you will be able to recall or find what you may be looking for yourself or with the use of bible tools such as concordance etc
    Take very good care of your Bible because we are privileged in the western world to be able to afford more than one copy and also to have free access to a bible unlike those in persecuted countries or those who can't afford one and don't have access
    Whilst I can understand the practice of marking - it is also a joy to open your Bible free of marking so either way is ok as long as you are spending time in the Word and your primary focus is concentrating on the Word not colouring or a system to the detriment of the primary purpose of reading or study

      @@joesbibles5636 Thanks Joe - You are right, I think it depends on the way the person is utilising the tool of marking and writing - I also agree it doesn't matter how many times you read the Bible God will always teach us, lead us, shepherd us, comfort us and correct us as we spend time in His Word. There is always something new to learn in The Word and yes as you said for Him to show us how we need to change to be more and more like Jesus Christ following in His perfect example. I actually only have two bibles I haven't marked - an interlinear my newest Bible, a small Good News and then I have 5 Bibles I have marked - A Good News my parents gave me as a child, a NIV, a Complete Jewish Bible, a NKJV and a NLT. My journey of faith in the God of the Bible and The One True Creator of this whole universe has had seasons as I was raised catholic then got involved in a pentecostal baptist church, then some other pentecostal churchs, then unfortunately got caught up in a church for about 9 years that I initially thought was true that I came to understand and accept was a cult (it was like a messianic church, a splinter group from the worldwide church of god, called the living church of god) so after that I needed to do some unlearning and I am not currently attending church - I did have a few other bibles which I have given to others to have - Sorry for the long reply though I greatly appreciate you replying to my comments. The one true constant in my life has been God and my faith - we all go through trials and triumphs and I have only gotten through by the grace of God, His answers to prayer, His Holy Spirit, His faithfulness and His love. Phiippians 4:13 There are a lot of so called christian You Tubers who unfortunately when you listen to their channel they either seem to be a worldly christian or not what I would consider biblical or on their you tube channel with a insta/influencer vibe and for the money or number of likes & I am greatly encouraged and empowered when I come across one like yourself who seems sincere and with their heart fixed on God and their channel like yours points you toward God not the person or things of the world. I use a KJV Journal the Word Bible Large Print (has 2" margin). I use the pigma micron pens for writing and crayola twistables for highlighting.
    My color code (I write with color pens) is -
    Red for God, Christ, Holy Spirit;
    Pink for believers;
    Orange for antichrist, sin, negative consequences;
    Purple for salvation and Christ's righteousness;
    Blue for law and promises (prophecy) of God;
    Brown for the sanctuary, verses that speak of the Bible itself, and historical information;
    Green for when I write in Strongs Concordance definitions, other translations; or clarification for theological issues
    Black Micron pen is for any other types of notes.
    Just recently bought the yellow pigma micron pen so I'm deciding how I will use it.

    Brother I've been searching for a scheme and I think you really honed in on what I need and its benefits (not spending time figuring out what color to use). My first time marking a Bible was in my first ESV and that was multi-colored using probably 5 popular higlighting colors, and I had somewhat of a scheme going but it is a bit distracting. After that I moved to the KJV and in my first KJV all I did was highlight in a single color (yellow) and underline (mostly pencil, some black fine tip and some red fine tip). I like how cleaner it looks.
    What I really want to know is, where can I find a good Bible with a yap and red edges like yours? I've always loved Bibles that look like that but I can never find them.
    Thanks for this video!!

      One more thing I would point out and ask: have you tested to see how some colors would fair going on top of your pre-existing yellow colors? I ask because I've gone back and some of my highlights over my existing yellow makes the colors come out a little muddy and not the color you would expect. Wouldn't want to see you disappointed with the results!

      I know you didn't ask for it but here are my thoughts. Probably, it would be best if you are doing a Bible in a year (or other timeframe) to read the scriptures from one Bible translation but if you ever feel the desire to see how something was translated in a different version either have the other version to hand physically (or use a study Bible with multiple translations within) or use an app such as Bible Gateway.
