    I have not had a premium Bible in 42+ years of being a Christian but received one as a gift a couple of months ago, and I have to say that I am surprised at how much I have enjoyed it. I like the feel of it in my hands. It is a pleasure to read. I even like the smell of it. I doubt I would ever collect them, because that would be a lot of money to tie up in Bibles. But I have enjoyed this one immensely.

    I’m sure you’ve answered these questions - I’m sorry if that’s the case! What tabs do you use? I have my ESV Topaz arriving Monday, and love your setup. I read somewhere that when you’re speaking or sharing, it is important for your audience to see you reading from a “real” Bible. The writer said when your audience sees you use the Bible, they begin to understand its value. I don’t know what Bible I consider my EDC. When I’m teaching, I like my NIV study Bible. When I’m listening to my pastor, I use and NLT Filament Bible. When I’m speaking at a school assembly, I use a large print NKJV.

    Very interesting. Based on the definition you post in the video, the NASB 20's use of "insignificant" seems to be the most accurate (and literal), in my opinion This is somewhat surprising to me, as I have been under the impression that the 2020 was slightly less literal than the 1995 edition. I suppose the question would be, does a word like "despise" better communicate the emotional/attitudinal element involved?

    • @joesbibles5636
      @joesbibles5636 17 днів тому

      @@Paladin12572 to answer your question, it could be subjective. But “insignificant” appears to be the most stringent translation.

    I just can’t understand what Schuyler is thinking. For years so so many of us have been asking for a sort of mid-size quentel. Not just for the actual physical dimensions (although many of us prefer 8x5), but rather so they could also increase the font size to like a 9-10. So they finally listen, make a bigger physical PSQ, but keep the font the same size (8.5)? I truly don’t understand. Well actually I do. Had they made this new PSQ with a larger font, it would have made the full size quentel obsolete. Which ultimately is what I think Schuyler needs to do at some point. Just make ONE Quentel, 8x5, with a 10pt font, and just be done. Because the reality is that for many the full size quentel is just too physically big and this new PSQ whole a great physical size is still too small for a font for many of us to read.

    I’ve really enjoyed watching your channel the past few months. I struggle to read the Bible through in a year not because I don’t read each day, but because I get caught up “chasing the rabbits” in the text. I get frustrated if I read 3 chapters and don’t remember all that I’ve read. So I do a lot more study than just read through. I’d like to try to do a read through but I just think the way I’m wired I won’t make it. Anyway I just wanted to tell you to keep up the good work. I love the simplicity combined with depth. 0:20 "Number one, Paul David Tripp is a really reputable theologian, pastor, writer." No. He is not. He endorses Eric Mason, who (among so many other things) called whites, "Angloids", in the MLK50 video title, "Don’t Lose Heart: Why It’s Worth It to Fight for Racial Harmony Even When We Don’t See Progress", The Gospel Coalition, Apr 17, 2018. The transcript (taken from my comment on this video 4 years ago) is copied below. @Yesica1993 4 years ago "I don't want to be traumatized by teaching you history." How does teaching history traumatize him? Especially when HE is the one who brought up historical things? "White frailty"? What a vile, racist term. So, whites are supposed to sit there and be called racists and are supposed to agree and accept it? This racist filth has no place in the Body of Christ. "Negroes"? If a white person used that term, they'd be branded "racist." So why is ok for him? 11:07 "God's been working on me in my heart is that the root of bitterness sprouting up will defile many. And if I allow myself to stew in my frustration towards whites, Jesus won't be my center. My hatred will." I am glad he admits his hatred of whites. It's public for the world to see. 12:22 "... black on the outside, Angloid on the inside." My God! I'd heard about this quote, this filthy, anti-white slur. But I didn't want to believe it until I saw and heard it for myself, in context, from the actual speech, on an official site. How horrifying to see this racist screed posted on a Christian channel. Worse yet is seeing all the "likes." The video where PDT endorses him is titled, "The Gospel, The Church, And Racial Injustice" Paul David Tripp, Jul 14, 2020. These are the full videos from the official sites, not clips taken out of context.

    Really glad that Lockman let Holman publish the NASB! 😊 No disrespect to Lockman, but it's well known that Lockman is a fairly small publisher located near Biola in Southern California (where I'm originally from). My understanding is most of the NASB translators came from Biola/Talbot, DTS in Dallas, TX, and TEDS in Chicago. In any case, this limits what kind of Bibles Lockman is able to publish. By contrast, Holman is huge, well resourced, relatively wealthy for a Christian publishing house, has virtually the entire Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) as their main audience and the SBC is itself the single largest evangelical church or denomination in the USA. Of course, Holman's primary translation is their in-house CSB, but it's pretty cool Holman also publishes the KJV and the NASB. And Holman makes very aesthetically pleasing editions of the CSB, KJV, and now NASB. 😊

    Great video! I am doing the 1 year "Chronological NLT" I am planning to try and set up a group with some of my 2 sons' High school and college friends to join in a group of Audible listening and reading. I'll Continue using the NLT journaling Bible and my old KJV Life Application for deeper learning. I haven't decided on a devotional book yet. Maybe Sproul's "Everybody is Theologian" as I am already working through that or Sproul's "Chosen by God". I also have been reading "We Believe: Creeds, Catechisms, and Confessions" about one day a week to learn and teach my kids and others as so many Churches do not teach Doctrines anymore. I'll keep writing my notecards with verses on them and I am thinking of getting a planner and trying Joe's method of devotions and prayers. Busy 2025 😆

My translation of choice is NLT although the commentary uses NKJV. I’m going at my own pace which is taking a long time (due to the commentary breakdown). I heard good things about the Daily Grace Co. Bible/study! I’ve also been checking it out too.

    Hey Pastor Joe. Thanks for sharing. I will be reading the NLT one year Chronological Bible with my mother. I will also be doing a year long devotional by the DailyGrace Co using the NKJV.

    I'm not sure about the Bible in a Year plan yet. My wife and I went through the Bible in a year this past year together. We did the Ligonier plan on YouVersion. I will going through a devotion by R.C. Sproul on the book of Romans which will take a year. The version of the Bible will be the ESV and which one, not sure yet. Thanks for your content.

      @@joesbibles5636 I'm not sure if you know this, Ligonier has offers where you can donate as much as you can and get a gift. I got the Romans devotion that way. I've gotten other devotions, books, videos that way too.

    Wait…so you’re not tackling 3 complete bible read throughs this year? You’re making me reconsider my plan now, lol. Sounds like a solid plan you have! I purchased an inexpensive leather soft Thomas Nelson NKJV W.M. this month for 2025. This will be my first time truly marking in my main bible. If you have any good recommendations for color coding or keys I’m all ears.
