Fun fact, DW, the browser/desktop version of youtube still has the numbers visible. My Fiance uses his phone more and I use a laptop. HE can't see numbers. /I/ can.

Daily wire I’ll help you break it down. UA-cam is aligning with the communist liberal party that has slowly started creeping into America’s values in the past 5+ years. It started with all the lgbtq bs and them trying to cause/create confusion. Then yahoo does away with their comments. Then Facebook starts censoring people. The main arguments are always the same thing, “to foster a good community.” Which, wouldn’t that be subjective since these same people turn every English word into a subjective meaning instead of its historical meaning? They’re just a few people attempting to socially engineer society to throw them off the trail of what they’re doing, and or attempting to cause something like a revolution. This is why we need the federal government to step in and say, nope! Can’t censor people, not letting people comment on articles or suppressing opinions, not allowed. What’s going to end up happening is that people who can’t vent their opinions, will ultimately find real life places to take their frustration of not being able to express themselves freely, into forms of violence and anger. That ultimately fuels hostility among people, much like how COVID has been doing. It’s all connected and doesn’t take a rocket scientist to deduce this.

Well, there is one thing we could collectively do; abandon UA-cam.
In January, my channel had it's 15th birthday. Back then, in 2007 you had the option of rating a clip with 0-5 stars.
Sadly, I lost access to my even older channels. But I'm happy I still got this one. It even works without a G-mail/Google account but my old email address.
As long as there are still channels like _"The Jimmy Dore Show"_ available, I'm not giving up UA-cam for good...

Someone here in one of the threads said there is a Google Chrome plugin that helps restore the dislike button .
There are also videos here that tell you how to restore it but I haven't tried any of them yet

I believe that the main reason for the dislike button removal had to do with the Whitehouse's dislike ratio on their channel. The videos were receiving thousands of dislikes per hundreds of likes.
Some videos had 543 likes, but 27,213 dislikes. Not sure if that was accurate, but I've never seen that before.
This was 100% political and 0% helpful to the UA-cam community. Shame on the people behind this dumb decision.
This is due to the covid narrative. The dislikes on covid news videos has higher dislikes to likes and you tube removed it for that reason.

UA-cam is violating the First Amendment right of the UA-camrs by hiding the the dislikes from public view as a general policy. While I think content creators have the right to disable both the like and dislike button of the video created, UA-cam is in violation of people's right to express disapproval of the video created by a creator when the creator of the video does not have both the like and dislike buttons disabled.
Only allowing people to kiss the butts of the radical left video creators but not allowing a huge number of people to show disapproval of the how bad the video content created by the radical leftists is is exactly why UA-cam has thrown the First Amendment under the bus. The deep irony here is that those who dislike political videos actually dissipate some of their anger when they click the dislike button because they feel that their opinion is counted in a small way. It was a healthy outlet compared to other alternatives. One could argue that the primary benefit of democracy is not that it selects the best candidate for the job, but that it satisfies the losers and their supporters that they had a fair chance and that they were counted and rejected. Therefore, they stay within the bounds of the system instead of going out and breaking things.
Nobody seems to care until something happens to them..

I was pretty shocked at google’s (youtube) unfair practices. Hiding the dislike count was the last straw for me. I switched all of my devices /services over to apple.

Any type of “how to” videos will really suffer.
What we really need is an alternative to UA-cam, run by people who respect those using their platform. This is a move to protect their vision of YT, not a way to make the experience better for the public.
Imagine if Google Maps removed the reviews section for any business. You wouldn’t know if you should go there or not.
Imagine if *_Amazon_* got rid of the ratings for products???? It would result in a lower quality experience for customers. And, we'd be less likely to shop at Amazon. Same thing here. I want to know what other viewers think about a video before I invest my time.

Actually, this is already a problem at Amazon, but with a twist. They have a lot of fake reviews that praise the product, but are not verified purchasers. There are also reviews that are filed on the wrong product. It's a pretty serious problem, and there are consumers groups trying to come up with good solutions for it.

When I want to learn how to fix something, the like/dislike ratio helps me know that the video has a great solution or a bad one. Now I have to rely on the comments. But sometimes even those are taken away.
Its not about the small creators, its ALL about controlling what the public sees.

I like how removing thumbs down might make social media more friendly. But at the same time, no one can like everything, and removing the dislike button would stop people from expressing that.

I noticed that YT had a message saying they want to "promote authoritative sources", i.e. promote propaganda and bury any dissenting viewpoints, including even the appearance of disagreement. I have a few hypothesis as to why.
1) I think a lot of corporations are allying with the Left to hedge their bets. The Right has generally been supportive or indifferent to corporations as matter of principle/ideology and there isn't really much to lose by pissing them off even if they are in power.
The Right is much more reluctant to break up monopolies and cartels than the Left. They are also less likely to support regulation that would disrupt their business model.
While they can essentially buy the support of the Left by paying lip service to Leftist pet projects and candidates while acting like typical unethical corporations.
That's kind of like the entertainment industry. Hollywood has been nearly exclusively Leftist for decades, yet it's an industry that consistently acts like the very worst capitalism with cartels, monopolies, poor working conditions, abuse and harassment of employees, and so on.
2) A lot of the decision makers in these industries come from a handful of universities (Ivy League universities, MIT, CalTech, Johns Hopkins, etc.) and many of those universities tend to lean somewhat to the Left to put it mildly.
Who am I kidding? Most of those universities act like anything Right of Pol Pot is like torturing puppies to death in a Satanic ritual to help you successfully molest more children. Anything Right-wing is seen as stupid, ignorant, and irredeemably evil to the point where basic economic concepts like Supply-and-Demand or the Laffer Curve are often dismissed out of hand as superstition or as something sinister.
People this mindset will hire only other people with that mindset whenever possible and get rid of anyone who disagrees until it becomes an echo chamber.

I used to use the ratio of likes to dislikes to determine if I should watch a how to video. You could easily tell if the person knows what they are doing or not, or if they did a proper job. Now I watch and learn and mess my own project up.

got my dislike button removed today and this breaks yt for me, there is no way to know if a video is good or a scam... from science to tech to basically every new channel I discover. Unusable, I don't want to learn something that is completely fake.
The moment it got removed for me, I immediately cancelled my UA-cam premium and will NEVER renew.
Also friendly reminder UA-cam's announcement video about this got 869k dislikes before it was hidden from the plebs.

^^^Exactly. Also, small content creators aren't getting the kind of exposure that really would terrify them. Getting a few thousand dislikes is a huge deal to a small content creator, which rarely happens and usually accompanies much higher views than what would be considered "small creators"; that type of feedback helps shape better content. Typically, creators don't get reamed like that unless it is really poor taste. Getting hundreds of thousands of dislikes is devastating to anyone, no matter how many views/subscribers, so no wonder they don't want everyone to know how so many people feel, enough to voice an opinion about it! To really rub that many people the wrong way is saying something, no matter who it is or what they do, the feedback is real and the truth hurts. If enough people liked it enough to "like" it, they wouldn't worry so much about those that dislike it.

I use the dislike counter to determine whether or not I want to waste my time watching a video. Now I have no way of being able to tell whether or not a creator is full of crap or lying
