    I’ve used the GT100 for over 3 years now it’s done at least 600 love shows with me, no exaggeration. It’s the best purchase I’ve ever made, I’ll never go back to an amp and pedalboard. If I do my homework I get every sound I want.

    This is undoubtedly a great video, and a much needed video. Also Leo you are a very good Guitar player. In my opinion both the units are good , i will continue with my GT-100 I agree to operate the GT100 basic theory of audio is required and I guess its the same for all other brands as well , other then one or two i never found any preset on any processor close to the sound that i want, to me presets are just an idea what an unit is capable of rest you have to customize with proper knowledge to get the tone you are looking for, its not the processor alone that will determine the tone, the guitar used is a big and first source of the tone .different type guitar will produce different tone even in the same tone setting of the processor,

    After considering which modeller, (effects processor) suited my needs best and after checking out the reviews, (including your excellent reviews) I bought the GX-100. I have owned it for a few months now and use it every day played thru my Fender GTX100 using the Return input on it to connect. The GX-100 connected this way uses the Fender amp only as a powered speaker free from the Fender effects. Its so easy to use and set up different tones and plays thru the Fender 12" speaker perfectly.
    I have also put the online Boss GTX-100 Tone Exchange to good use both downloading tones as well as uploading them. Really pleased with the unit and very much appreciate honest reviews like yours that helped me decide on my purchase.

    Funny that you uploaded this comparison as this past week I have been revisiting my Boss GT-10 to understand if it's worth selling or not. Truth is that the unit still has great tones and signal chain flexibility for a unit from 2008. Where it lacks the most is playing dynamics and the drives sound very similar no matter if it's on the preamp or on the OD/DS blocks. Not having the GT-100, I wonder if it suffers from the same.
    Thank you for the video Leo.

    Thank you! You did it again. You put again my old unit against unit I was looking in to maybe buying in the future. I have not decided yet, but I think you saved my wallet again from being abused on guitar gear that I do not need. You also have other comparison videos that im going to watch next. Very interesting and very useful channel. It is way better hearing comparison then just someone reviewing one unit against thin air. Kemper Player vs Tonex will be the next thing Im going to watch and comparison of BOSS IR loaders is also a very interesting thing for me. I am looking in to easy to tweak unit for the stage that can tweak sound with a knob without having to rant through some kind of digital menu while playing a live gig or performing at a party. Looks like there is only one way to go for me and this is BOSS ME series multiFX. You are the only one on UA-cam I found who is making so many comparisons, and this is my GO TO channel before I decide to buy anything because I usually find these videos where the units are already comapred and I know what im up against. Have a wonderful day Leo.

    I didn't use the Boss for years, and recently I dusted it off and started to play it again.
    I use the crunch tones and cleans and distorted sounds.Hendrix, Maiden, etc.
    I am very surprised how it is still a very good gear for these genres.
    It will not be good for modern ones like djent, you won't have that "oof" and tube amp distortion but for anything else it's still solid.You need to tweak it though and to know what you are doing.Built in pedal is an extra candy.

    To my ears, the GX is richer in tone. Especially in the lower mids. This could be due to the IR improvements. Also, the string separation is better. If the brighter strings are played, the GT gets digital by a lot. The GX sounds more natural to me. However - in the mix, I didn't notice a lot of improvements for me to justify an upgrade. I'd rather check out every available unit at this price point to find the best one for me. Every unit has strengths and flaws, so we need to become clear about what is important to us. I'm playing the Helix, which is not "the best" but suits my needs. There are many units on par and there is no "the best one". Thank you for another great comparison!

There are three differrent ones, at leats in the GT-8 and I would expect the same effect on the GX-100 as well, while maybe it is overshadowed by the IR technology.

    I'd definitely go for the GX100. I have an old Boss GT-6, and though the sounds were pretty good, many of the knobs have failed, and replacement parts are not easy to find. The improvements in the User Interface alone are worth getting the newer model, based on the time consuming difficulties I had with my GT-6. I now have an HX Stomp.

As commented above, I am not sure the GX will make a big difference in the mix, anyhow, heading to US from Brazil later in the year I might upgrade. I do like the pedal push type style of the the GT and am curious to know if you or someone here could tell me how it compares to the GX, knowing the GX has the push button style. I have a pretty large feet and fear that these buttons (from the GX) are not far enough one from another and that would compromise hitting two buttons at the same time. Are you able to comment on that? Thank you and congrats for your song and very good comparison.

    Hi Leo! Great review!! There's a notorious difference in both unit's sounds. As a GT100 owner, I've always felt that crunch effects were less organic compared to the clean or heavy distorted tones. And it's true, the learning curve takes longer. It could be awesome to make a video about how much you can improve the sounds of a GT 100 using the unit's preamps and external IRs in the FX loop. I have a Nux Solid Studio and I'm trying to replace the cab sims. How far can it go compared to nowadays units? Thanks!!! 🙌🏻

    If you own a GT-100 and are playing live into the effects return of guitar amp, I imagine the difference in sound would be negligible. Also, remember, your speaker IS your IR. The only reasons I would consider the GX is the smaller size and ease of patch creation. Though the newer amp models would be interesting.

    I am using Helix Lt. At home with a combination of Yamaha HS5 and computer (with XLR cable) I get pretty good saturated sound on my DAW. My input level indicator in the DAW already states that it's okay without any peaking. However, when I connect to the mixer and Cabin with 1/4" cable in the studio, or when I bypass the Marshall amp+cabine, bypass the amp and enter the cabin, the sound is very weak. Every time I go to the multi output settings in my patch and I have to increase the volume by 8 to 20 dB. But then there is an imbalance between patches. I think I need a poweramp. But the Ohms of the poweramps are different from each other and I don't know what kind of poweramp I should buy. Dear Leo, can you please make a video explaining the FRFR, mixer, poweramp and cabinet connections of the Amp simulators?
    these links are correct?
    Helix effects > Helix amp > Helix cab > Sound Blaster
    Helix effects > Amp > Cabinet
    Helix effects > Helix amp > Power amp > Cabinet
    Helix effects > Helix amp > Amp effect return > Cabinet
    Helix effects > Helix amp > Helix cab > Mixer > PA
    Helix effects > Helix amp > Mixer > Power amp > Cabinet

    • @Andrey.Balandin
      @Andrey.Balandin 2 роки тому +1

      All these paths you listed are possible.
      Helix effects > Helix amp > Helix cab > Sound Blaster
      Helix effects > Amp > Cabinet
      Helix effects > Helix amp > Power amp > Cabinet
      Helix effects > Helix amp > Amp effect return > Cabinet
      Helix effects > Helix amp > Helix cab > Mixer > PA
      Helix effects > Helix amp > Mixer > Power amp > Cabinet
      Line-level signal (coming from a mixing board, audio interface or guitar processor) is not powerful enough to drive a cabinet by itself without a power amplifier, as you discovered.

    The concern of the GT100 is above all its completely bad ergonomics compared to the old GTs, the sounds are still very good...
    The other default is the lack of possibilities for the chaining of effects, being able to put an overdrive and a distortion together is complicated
    The GX still seems much more user-friendly

    The gx100 is a "better" box, but lacks some of the bite of the gt6 i had. The gx100 pedal for whawha takes longer to get used to and the sound is not as good for me.. Improved? Overall, yes, but something is missing... Keep in mind it took me 3 years playing live 6 days a week to program the gt6 to do what i wanted, and with the gx100 I'm almost there in a short 5 months! I'm a professional guitarist who needs the box to do everything, not using an amplifier live

    Gt 100 sounds even more full. Gx 100 sounds seem to have a robotic sound, because there's no very full active voice because there's a tsunami on the sensational pedals that lower the quality. Gt 100 is still super!

  • @Stefan-
    @Stefan- 2 роки тому +1

    I thought the difference in sound would be way bigger, in this example the difference is fairly small but the GX-100 sounds better in my opnion which is not surpricing. Out of these two I would of course get a GX-100, there are many advantages even the size/weight is a significant advantage. The GX-100 is currently one of the top contenders for me together with the Line6 POD Go if i were go get a floor modeler. That said, it seems that if you already have a GT-100 then there is nothing wrong with continuing using it by the sounds in this video.

    • @LeoGibsonGtr
      @LeoGibsonGtr  2 роки тому +2

      Hi, in my opinion in a mix the difference is less evident, but it becomes more clear when the guitar is alone. The GX (in my opinion) is more natural and more close to the real amp.

    I've found the user experience on the GX-100 to be absolutely inscrutable. Sometimes it requires you to touch the screen, sometimes it requires you to use a knob or button. Sometimes switching back and forth every few seconds with no real indication what to do. It's got to be one of the worst user interfaces I've ever used. I don't know how anyone can say "you can learn it in minutes." I spent time with the manual, and with youtube tutorials. It's STILL difficult to use. The GX-100's UI is absolutely unintuitive.

    Ciao Leo. Ho avuto in passato la GT10 e ho usato un po' la GT100 di un mio amico. Sono parenti strette, per capirci. Ora ho la GX100. Che dire? E' migliore, anche se le amp sim della Boss non sono il top. L'ho scelta però per la sua versatilità veramente elevata e, in questa ultima versione, ho apprezzato anche il software che nelle altre due precedenti è molto complicato. L'impostazione degli assign dei footswitch erano al limite del demenziale. Ora hanno riassunto tutte le voci, che prima andavi tu a pescare qua e la, in un unica schermata. L'effettistica la trovo buona anche se un po' troppo spinta per i miei gusti. Comunque roba ce n'è da sbizzarrirsi e nel mix tutto funziona. La grossa differenza nel suono la fanno gli acuti che nella GX100 sono presenti mentre nella Gt100/GT10 mancano un po'. Anche le distorsioni suonano più naturali e meno nasali così come i preamp. Poi se uno ha già una GT 100 e vuole fare il salto forse deve andare sulla GT1000 o aspettare la prossima generazione. La Boss secondo me dovrebbe fare una manciata di ampli come si deve senza badare troppo all'utilizzo della cpu, tanto un bel suono lo si fa anche con tre massimo quattro effetti. Metterne ventidue in doppia catena non serve a niente, crea solo confusione sonora.
