Hi Dario, I don't have the GX 100 so far, so I cannot answer being 100% sure. I guess: quality of the modulation should be the same, as both units seem to be using the same modelling algorithms; as regards dry tracks, it depends from the number of USB Audio channels available in the gx 100 that is something not mentioned in the user manual; as regards the exp pedal, I'm incline to think that they are the same...but it is just an hypothesis. Thank you!
Hi Leo, thanks for this video. So, what do you think are the weaknesses of the sound engine of the Boss pedals. Is it the amp models, what is the issue with them in your opinion. Do they sound too digital or too 80s/90s. Or something else.
Hi, I think that these are pretty good units. Maybe the only draw back is that the amp and the cab are designed to work in conjunction to get the most from the AIRD BOSS Tech, and therefore with IRs we are not fully using the AIRD tech.
Hi, the AIRD BOSS tech works simulating the interaction between the whole rig (amp + cab). Therefore you typically obtain the best result using the internal amps and cabs and not external IRs. This is also what BOSS is advertising. And in fact, if you remember, when the GT 1000 was released, it was even not possibile to load external IRS. Thank you!
Arguably for ambient nuts, the mono send/return is an issue (no way to connect a stereo return isn't handy to add, say, a DD-500). So I expect a GX 1000 sooner or later.
I have to agree with the comments that I've read, I love your reviews and comparisons. You always do a great job. I do have a couple of questions that I would like to ask you or any of your followers.. 1. Do you know of any easy way to actually list out the list of fx of each unit? The only thing I can find through the Boss site is to go through the manuals. They are not always clear. I will go through it this way but if anyone knows of an easier way please let me know. 2. As you mentioned, the GtT1000 is already over 5 years since it came out. Does anyone know if Boss is planning on coming out with a new flagship model?
Thank you so much, I'm really happy that you like the video!!! 1) there should be a specific manual dedicated to the list of effects and amps...unfortunately I don't know any other method... 2) That's a good question! I don't know...of course 5 years is a pretty long time...therefore sooner or later probably something new will come out... Thank you!
Sounds like a deal on the pricing factor with all the goodies. It's definitely a buy if its a tad smaller & lighter. Thanks again Leo for the priceless share. #staysafe
Started looking for an multi effects processor and kept hitting your channel. You are by far the best at comparing getting to the details and comparing specs. Just subscribed too. One question are you and engineer? I am and I've spent my life around technical people. I'm thinking you are. 😍
Hi Steve, thank you so much, your sub is really super important for me and I'm happy to have been of some help! Well, I have always been interested in tech and computers and I have a degree in information science...I would say that my heart is for music/ guitar and my brain is divided in two...half music and half science ... 😀
@@LeoGibsonGtr We are birds of a feather. Can't tell you how many channels I've been just looking for real specs and real compare-contrast. Please keep up the great work
Leo, the boss should have sent one for you to test. For me, this GX model is great. It has exactly everything that everyone will actually use. The GT 1000 is an exaggeration, with its 24 simultaneous effects.
Hi, this is a pretty hard question to answer...I don't remember all the specs....but if I remember it well the Zoom G6 and the Headrush MX5 manage the longer loops. Thank you!
Does it make sense to assume that this is the next generation with the GX100 as a starter, only to present the all new flagship GX1000 at Summer Namm? Anyway, nice comparison. Your videos are the best, I love them! Oh and btw: I like how your channel us growing 😊... hope to see the 100k soon.
Hi, it could be...interesting point! Even if in the GX 100 we don't have next gen modelling...at least it seems that the modelling tech is the same of the one in the GT 1000. I really hope that your prevision will become reality...😀 Thank you!!!
Agree with evryone, you are so amazing!!! Love your UA-cam channel ! I consider to buy one of those. I am looking for easy to use muliteffect, and not to compliated. What shall i choose og those two ? Greetings from Norway 🇳🇴
Thank you so much, I'm super happy that you like the channel! Between the two, the easiest one is the GX 100, the bigger, colourful and touch sensitive screen is much easier to be used compared to the one of the GT 1000. Thank you once more!
Greetings! Hi Leo, just liked and sunscribed to your channel. What a great detailed review you did for these items, and a amazing player as well.. By the way, if I had the budget to buy any of the two, which one would you advise me to buy, the GX100 or the GT1000? Thank you very much!
Thank you so much, I'm really happy that you like the video and the playing! These are really great compliments!!! Well, I would say that if you are used to tweak the unit and build your presets with the physical unit (and not the computer app), the GX 100 is far simpler. On the other hand the GT 1000 allows for more complex signal chains, has balanced out and a (very very little) advantage in terms of sound (that you can check out here: ua-cam.com/video/6KJYsWw_oag/v-deo.html) At the end of the day, the easiness of use (in my opinion) plays a big role, and I find myself using more and more the GX 100 over the GT 1000, for its simplicity. Thank you and I hope this could help.
@@LeoGibsonGtr This surely helps a lot.. Anyway, how do you compare the Boss GX100 with Hotone Ampero? Which one would you suggest personally in terms of realistic and quality sound and tone?
Hi Edward, good point! I don't know...I'm more prone to thing that a Gx 1000 is not coming in the next months, even considering the chip shortage...but it's just a guess... Thank you!
Ciao Leo! Se volessi collegare queste pedaliere a due monitor attivi (frfr o simili...) Per creare un piccolo sistema stereo domestico con cui suonare e sperimentare...quali risultati sonori potrei ottenere? Quali monitor consiglieresti? Grazie e complimenti.
Ciao, otterresti ottimi risultati.
(Budget ~ 500 euro)
ciao Leo, Hi there, well one more difference is that gx1000 miss autowha, and all parameters about ce1 such as preamp section.. if u wanna build up special sound from it u’ll change effect line up.
This appears to be another case like the Headrush full board and the MX5. Seems like Boss is undercutting the higher priced pedal with no compelling reason to buy the GT-1000 except for a very few additional features. Can't wait to hear you put them thru their paces. God bless and rock on 🎸👍😎
Yes, I do agree...also Line 6 seems to be following the same route. For sure if I will be able to get one...we will make some interesting comparison videos....Thank you!!!
Hello Leo. I've seen other reviews stating that the effect blocks in the gx-100 allow more flexibility than the gt 1000, in regards to the gx 100 allowing multiole versions of the same effect type. An example is, the use of several types of reverb or multiole types of delay. I guess the GT 1000 follows Boss's traditional restriction of one of each effect type per patch. Can you confirm whether or not that information is accurate? I've watched your entire series of multi-effects/modeller comparisons. It's an incredibly useful resource for musicians! Thank you for taking the time to research and create the series.
Hi, thank you so much, and I'm happy that you find my videos useful!!! Yes, you are right, one of the pro of this unit, compared to the GT 1000, is that it allows to load many instances of the same effect block! In the GT 1000 you have some blocks where you can load many different effects, but it is not the same.. Thank you once more!
@@LeoGibsonGtr Thank you. Based on your comparisons, I think that the GX 100 will work best for my needs. I typically perform either 4 cable (with a band) or solo with an interface connected to a laptop running Ableton Live. The balanced output is not a deal breaker for me. Thanks again for your hard work and commitment to the community.
It would make no sense to buy the 1000 if the price is that much higher. Boss may be planning a price drop or discontinuation of it. These are both great devices. Thank you for another great comparison.
I would argue that no XLR outs is a pretty big deal for some (like myself). Usually on gigs, I’ll run my modeler both into my amp AND direct to FOH. If the GX-100 had balanced outs, I’d be interested. As it stands, that’s way too much $$$ for simply one set of 1/4” outputs.
@@JazzzRockFuzion You have a valid point on something that I overlooked. I still think the price premium is very large for that flexibility, but it may be worth it in that scenario.
Hi Leo, I think that the Boss GX 100 will end up displacing the Boss GT 1000, since it is aimed at the average guitarist and already offers a lot and at a lower cost. I think Boss is fixing some bugs with this new multi-effects, it will definitely be a top seller.
Hi Sergio, yes, it seems a pretty good options...the GT 1000 has more features and is more powerful, but the price of the GX 100 is for sure much more accessible.
@@musically-assureddestructi8843 It's not really. It's missing some of the outputs, effects (eg CE-1 Chorus, Auto Wah, etc) and blocks you can build. That wouldn't stop me from buying the GX-100 for sure since it is likely the better buy for many. I'm still undecided since I have the L6 Pod Go.
Hello Mr. Leo, You are the best reviewer on UA-cam, Boss should send u this unit for comparison I think most of the people would be waiting for your in-depth review which you always do in your videos. I am really Excited to Buy a Unit for my Live Shows, Could You Please suggest me which should I buy between Headrush MX5 and Boss GX100, My main purpose is for Live gigs, I am looking for an amazing depth while gigging. waiting for your valuable responce Love from India💙😀
Hi, thank you so much, I'm super happy that you like my reviews!!! Yes, I have one unit coming...so I will do some videos about it!!! For live use I would say that there are pros and cons for both the unit. Obviously the BOSS has ore foot switches that could be very useful while playing live, and the MX5 has balanced outs, that could be useful in order to run long cable in live situation. Therefore it depends on what you think is more valuable for you. Nevertheless, I will give you my full opinion as soon as I will get the unit and I will be able to make direct video comparisons. Thank you!!!
Great comparison. However a key difference is the effect blocks are always on in the GT1000 which gives instant, no lag patch switching...important for live use.
There will be no sound difference between 32 bits/96KHz vs. 24 bits/48KHz. In fact it'll sound exactly the same as 16 bit/44.1KHz in the human hearing range. The only thing is aliasing could be reduced but even then only slightly but then when do you ever hear aliasing? Never basically. I think the balanced output could be a thing that would make you spend more on the GT 1000 of you're playing live a lot.
32bit 96khz is important to me, also low latency. I was glad to see the GT-1000 with the lowest latency in your latency test video. I'm curious about latency on GX-100. I read in Boss manual that only 1 divider was available in GX-100 (only 1 parallel path).
Hi, yes, every body has his own needs, and it is totally comprehensible. Yes with one divider you can Crete two paths, that's what I mean with two parallel path. Thank you for your message!
Can someone please try and get a Garcia/Anastasio tone with one of these.. It is literally the only type of tone I haven't heard coming from one of these..As time goes bye I am just guessing it isn't really possible?? Anyone??
No balanced outputs is a great disappointment. My primary use of this type of board is direct to front of house {FoH}. The lack of balanced outputs means extra gear in the signal chain, the whole reason for me using my Head Rush Gigboard now is to streamline things. I can't believe at the over $500 price point Roland could not include balanced outputs, this unit would be otherwise very nice.
ua-cam.com/video/lpjzg8z46G8/v-deo.html Is Glenn talking about balanced to unbalanced converters/ adapters or is there actually a cable that has the converter built in?
Hi, my name is Ron. Thanks fot this video!! I think that the various video’s and comments on the GX-100, in particular the tone tests GX-100 vs GT-1000 show that this is a high level product. But personally I wonder which tone-/ sound differences I might expect between the GX-100 and the GT-1 (because I have one) or the GT-100 (both having many basics in common). This is my situation: I’m using a Boss GT-1, connected to the clean channel of a Roland Blues Cube Stage amp and I play on an Ibanez 2395 (45 years old semi-hollow with super 70’s humbuckers) and a Fender American Pro Strat HSS. I play various styles and use original as well as altered (in Boss Tone Studio) patches. Problem is that a number of those patches with a certain degree of distortion sound rather harsh, impure, unnatural in my ears. If the GX-100 is much better, then I would certainly buy one.
Hi, thank you for sharing! Unfortunately I don't own the GT-1 therefore I can't give my fact based opinion. Nevertheless the GT 1 is a pretty old unit, and in the last years the modelling algorithms have improved a lot...therefore I think that the GX 100 should be a good improvement over the GT-1...as I said...it's just a guess....as I have never used a GT 1 Thank you!
Wonderful Video Leo!! I have a question about it not having a balanced XLR out for a longer run when at a gig. I currently have H&K tube amp that has an XLR DI out that is meant to send to the front of house. Could I connect this GX 100 to my tube amp and then, afterwards, send the XLR DI out to the front of house with a long run? Then I wouldn't have to worry about the noise/interference? If I did that, would I only be able to use the GX 100 effects and not any amp modelers ?
Hi Vince, yes you can. The only downside I see, is that you are gonna run a mono rig in this way, I mean that you cannot use the effects in stereo. Thank you for your question!
Hi Leo, thanks for your detailed reviews and comparisions !!! you're a great guitar player and your expertise is not just an exercise but it's very helpfull for everyone of us !!! in the end, if I wanted to give myself one of the two for my birthday, which one would you take? i play direct on the mixer both in in studio and live situation. Thanks a lot and good music !!! Maurizio
Hi Maurizio, thank you so much, I'm really happy that you like my reviews and my playing!!! Unless you absolutely need the balanced out of the GT 1000, I would go with the GX 100....it's cheaper, and more user friendly. The balanced out of the GT 1000 are useful to run long cables in order to go directly to the mixer, but you can purchase for instance the warlus audio canvas in order to convert unbalanced to balanced. Thank you!
@@LeoGibsonGtr thank you for your quick response. I think you're right, especially since the price difference is not negligible. You transform suggestion in action !! i'm very pride to be you follower and i wish to see you play live
Hi, here you have it: ua-cam.com/video/6KJYsWw_oag/v-deo.html I've done 2 videos: one dedicated to the comparison of the tech specs and another one dedicated to the tone differences. Thank you for your message
Please do a comparison of the effects lost / gained between the two units . For example is the mastering Fx available in the GX ? If not then is possible that the GT 1000 would sound much better than the GX 100
My only doubt watching other videos of the gx 100 demo .. . Is that it does not have the depth of the gt 1000 ... Seems more like a upgraded gt 100 with a touch screen I may be wrong .. but my ears are telling me something ...
Hi Colin, as far as I know the GT 100 does not have the AIRD amp modelling tech that is use int he GT 1000 and the GX 100. Furthermore the GX 100 should have the same amps of the GT 1000. So I think that the amp modelling tech of the GX 100 is = to the one of the GT 1000. The only difference that could have an impact in the sound, is that the GT 1000 has better converters at 32 bit and 96 kilo hertz, but this should not impact the sound so much... Thank you for your message!
@@LeoGibsonGtr thanks ..Leo ..I'm trying to decide on this one or the gt1000 or core for live gigs .. .. I still use the gt 6 .. the screen is slowly giving away .. and I need a new toy too ..

Thank you!
@@LeoGibsonGtr Got it, that's interesting, thanks!
You are welcome, I'm happy to have been of some help!
When are Boss going to update the GT1000 to colour touch screen??
Hi, unfortunately I don't know...
Arguably for ambient nuts, the mono send/return is an issue (no way to connect a stereo return isn't handy to add, say, a DD-500). So I expect a GX 1000 sooner or later.
Hi Steven, I do agree...thank you for your message!!!
Thank you!
Does the GT-1000 have the same presets as the GX-100? Or can the GX-100 presets used with the GT-1000?
Sounds like a deal on the pricing factor with all the goodies. It's definitely a buy if its a tad smaller & lighter.
Thanks again Leo for the priceless share. #staysafe
You are welcome, thank you for sharing your opinion!!!!
Great information! Wonder is there any video from you for comparing Boss GX-100 to Zoom G6?
Hi Tim...good suggestion...let's see if I'm able to get one GX 100...thank you for your suggestion!

Thank you Steve, I will do my best!!! Thank you so much!
Leo, the boss should have sent one for you to test. For me, this GX model is great. It has exactly everything that everyone will actually use. The GT 1000 is an exaggeration, with its 24 simultaneous effects.
Hi, I'm in contact with BOSS...I should receive one in the coming days...
Thank you!
I use the GT 1000 , and I never had such a detailed and musical sound from any digital or analog rig

Leo which of the multi effects pedal boards have the best looper on them? Seeing many with no memory or only a 30 second loop or less.
Hi, this is a pretty hard question to answer...I don't remember all the specs....but if I remember it well the Zoom G6 and the Headrush MX5 manage the longer loops.
Thank you!
@@LeoGibsonGtr thanks Leo if only my local music stores had the mx5 but their back ordered with over 60 people trying to get one.
I really hope that your prevision will become reality...😀
Thank you!!!
@@LeoGibsonGtr Thank you so much for great advices!! Cool!
You are welcome, I'm happy to have been of some help!
On the other hand the GT 1000 allows for more complex signal chains, has balanced out and a (very very little) advantage in terms of sound (that you can check out here: ua-cam.com/video/6KJYsWw_oag/v-deo.html)
At the end of the day, the easiness of use (in my opinion) plays a big role, and I find myself using more and more the GX 100 over the GT 1000, for its simplicity.
Thank you and I hope this could help.
@@LeoGibsonGtr This surely helps a lot.. Anyway, how do you compare the Boss GX100 with Hotone Ampero? Which one would you suggest personally in terms of realistic and quality sound and tone?
Real question is if Boss has a GTX-1000 around the corner adding the touch screen and maybe a more complete FX set from their 500 stomps.
Ciao, su quel budget credo HeadRush 112 o Line 6 Power Cab. Alternativamente vanno bene casse da studio....io uso le Genelec.
Ciao.
ciao Leo, Hi there, well one more difference is that gx1000 miss autowha, and all parameters about ce1 such as preamp section.. if u wanna build up special sound from it u’ll change effect line up.
Ciao, good point! I didn't notice it...thank you for sharing!
Yes, they are changing the form factor but not the technology. But idk, maybe the technology doesn't really need to be improved?
@@LeoGibsonGtr Cool!!! A comparison between those two will be awesome!!
You are welcome! I'm happy to have been of some help and thank you also for sharing your final choice!
It would make no sense to buy the 1000 if the price is that much higher. Boss may be planning a price drop or discontinuation of it. These are both great devices. Thank you for another great comparison.
You are welcome! Thank you for sharing you opinion!
@@JazzzRockFuzion Can't you just have a direct box nearby for the FOH?
I am really Excited to Buy a Unit for my Live Shows, Could You Please suggest me which should I buy between Headrush MX5 and Boss GX100, My main purpose is for Live gigs, I am looking for an amazing depth while gigging.
waiting for your valuable responce
Love from India💙😀
Hi, thank you so much, I'm super happy that you like my reviews!!!
Yes, I have one unit coming...so I will do some videos about it!!!
For live use I would say that there are pros and cons for both the unit. Obviously the BOSS has ore foot switches that could be very useful while playing live, and the MX5 has balanced outs, that could be useful in order to run long cable in live situation. Therefore it depends on what you think is more valuable for you.
Nevertheless, I will give you my full opinion as soon as I will get the unit and I will be able to make direct video comparisons.
Thank you!!!
@@LeoGibsonGtr thankyou a lot Mr Leo, waiting for your video ❤️😍

Great comparison. However a key difference is the effect blocks are always on in the GT1000 which gives instant, no lag patch switching...important for live use.
Thank you Richard, I'm happy that you like the video!
Honestly, with the GX-100 I cannot hear any substantial lagging when switching between patches. 🤷
Thank you Leo.

What's needed now is a GX-100 Core at the price of the ME-90 or lower.

The 24bit war.

;;;perfect explanation....tks
You are welcome, I'm happy that you like the video!
Hi, yes...I do agree...
@@LeoGibsonGtr Actually the GT-1000 has 3 dividers, so that could be 4 parallel path 🙂
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion!
ua-cam.com/video/lpjzg8z46G8/v-deo.html
Is Glenn talking about balanced to unbalanced converters/ adapters or is there actually a cable that has the converter built in?
Nevertheless the GT 1 is a pretty old unit, and in the last years the modelling algorithms have improved a lot...therefore I think that the GX 100 should be a good improvement over the GT-1...as I said...it's just a guess....as I have never used a GT 1
Thank you!

Please do a comparison of the effects lost / gained between the two units . For example is the mastering Fx available in the GX ? If not then is possible that the GT 1000 would sound much better than the GX 100
Hi Mark, thank you for your suggestion...I will see what I can do...

I believe you have your ir columns switched. The GT-1000 can be upgraded to 4 slots, while the GX-100 ships with 16 slots.

GX 100 has the same 24 bit processor as the GT 100 the main difference is the colour touch screen
Hi Matthew, the GX 100 is using the AIRD modelling tech, that is inside the GT 1000, but it is not used in the GT 100 (as far as I know).

My only doubt watching other videos of the gx 100 demo .. . Is that it does not have the depth of the gt 1000 ...
Seems more like a upgraded gt 100 with a touch screen
I may be wrong .. but my ears are telling me something ...
