As I found to my cost 6-8000 mile oil changes are a must on these engines, otherwise timing chain will wear out prematurely. Ignore the long drain interval rubbish.
My Astra 1.6cdti's timing chain had to be done a few miles short of 80,000. Noticed that in it's service history oil changes were done at 20,000 miles before I bought it. Chain replacement was £1245.00 - 9 months after buying. Now gets oil & filter changed every 6-8000. So far, so good. Now at 116,000 and counting. Oil is cheaper than metal..Great video Baz..but oh the pain of this one..!!

Here in Ireland I have the Opel version of the Insignia and with 249km or 154 miles thankfully it hasn't yet had the dreaded rattle. I guess the one thing that has worked in my favour it's only ever been main dealer and after 100km I have it seviced every 15k or 8k miles. Fingers crossed or you might yet be seeing me for one of these chains as your work fills me with so much confidence a trip across the Irish sea would be very welcome.

I'm not as clued up when it comes to cars, but can't those pistons just be replaced with new ones, how big a job would that be and how much would it cost ?
And if you left it and did nothing how much more could you get out of that engine till it completely died, maybe about 30k miles if lucky ?

I've got the b20dth engine in my 2017 Insignia and after doing my research on them I'm glad I did as all I have to worry about it the cambelt and the cam chain above the gearbox. Vauxhall should of learnt with the Corsa c, they don't make good chain driven engines.
Also, I'm fully away of the cam chains above the gearbox having a fault with them aswell.

Overfuelling injectors has killed the pistons. No doubt some poor bugger will buy it.
