Jesus christ. I did one of these on the driveway last week. Suffice to say, I'm never doing one again. What a nightmare. I salute you Baz. Hell of a job you did.
I watched another one of these you did as well - blimey, Vauxhall really don’t want front-drive mechanics having a bash at this do they!? They put the timing chain on the wrong end of the engine! Well done sir, what a pain of a job.👍
My coworker pulls the engine out for chain replacement on B16, it out and in in 8 hours on Astra and Zafira, 6 -7 on Insignia. More room in engine bay on insignia. Hope it helps, never tryed myself but seeing him do it I will try it when anoter b16 comes for chain replacement.
It like the culture of sending for clothes wearing them once to a do and sending them back. Makes me feel ashamed for our country. Sad. Sad. But proud of you Baz.
What an absolute crock of shit idea these modern suit designed engines are , totally crazy to have to strip 1/2 the engine bay , gear box frame off etc , it's mad , I could see the happiness on your face when showing the timing kit 😂 your parts supplier should know who they sent it to before , had this so many times even had old brake pads in a box 📦 🤬, why do they not check returned items, I hate it when you get an opened box , that's been ripped open🙈, don't think I've got the patience anymore for jobs like this , not many customers want to pay us what the jobs worth, done a long wheel base luton Sprinter today mot fail , front to rear brake pipes , the knob owner filled it up before taking it for test , and as we know it's a tank down job to do it properly, nearly 2 rolls of brake pipe, luckily they are jointed just behind the cab , trolley jack , planks of wood under the tank, 2 rugs on the floor front end jacked up as high as it would go 4 stands , sorted, come and collect it and bring your card sir to pay me 😂😂😂
Hey Baz, greetings from Croatia! First of all, I love your content and I've been following your journey for some time now. Second of all, I'd love your help/opinion on an issue I've been having. Since i did the timing chain replacement, my car has started to consume about a 1L/100km more on average and I can feel a lack of power, specially during the turbo kick where it just doesn't feel like the car is performing as it's supposed to... I've been to to shop that did the timing chain and they are not cooperating and telling me it's fine, but of course it's not since it's a pretty noticeable change in engine behavior. There are no codes nor CEL on low or high rpm, low or high speed but there is one more symptom and that is longer crank start, especially the first in the morning. I've changed all the filters and did a carbon clean on the intake and egr system but with no luck on solving this. If you have any ideas or if you think the shop might have not assembled my car back the right way, I'd appreciate any help at this time. Once again, great content and hope you grow even bigger!
@@bazmeredith Will check on how to do this or ask around for help on checking for leaks, thank you very much! Edit - the engine in question is the 1.6cdti from Astra K
great job well done some cranking gone into that one there enjoyed the video thanks i wouldnt like the bill for that job vauxhall need to give there head a wobble what a bad design wow good on you
Good job Baz. Greetings from Czechia. I can't believe it, but 23 more likes were added since I started watching😊. People love you. Can you please share what kind of solvent do you use for cleaning EGR?
It's a product I use called elbow grease believe it or not... Believe it or not my partner got me hooked on it after I split curry down my shirt ever since I've used it on everything... Upholstery, engine bays, body work the list is endless
Fair play mate for taking on jobs like this on cars with such high mileage, im usually happy to sit on autopilot fitting brakes suspension etc all day long but occasionally il take on something like this then wonder why afterwards when you do the math it pays more to sit on autopilot for me anyway a challenge now & then is always nice 😊
I would say it’s the parts supplier at fault if something is returned and credited back it should be checked that it’s complete before being sold again time is money
If the customer drove four hours and expected to get the car back by the end of the day, did he then need to book a hotel for the night or get the train home and return? i would be seriously annoyed the parts were not checked when they arrived.
It's a ring automotive under bonnet light with a 240v led strip light cable tied to it, battery bonnet lights don't last long enough for me to have one so 240v all the way 100% light all day long
@@bazmeredith mine went at 106k currently on 160k and I think its good for another 2 years. There's a rattle at start up but I think that's on the side of the aux tensioner.
Timing chain replacement requires gearbox out and sump off, what a process, great job as usual!
Respect to anyone who takes a job like this on . Wonder what the bill was ?

Amazing job Baz! Really impressive work.

Done well for a 1.6 cdti 164k miles
I’ve seen some rattle really bad at 90-95k miles 🤙
Bloody hell Baz, what a pig of a job but brilliant work! There won't be many mechanics that will be taking on this job that's for sure
Love watching a mastercat work and that Mark 2 has done 44000 more than my 2010 mark 1. Never let me down yet. 🤙👊👍

Great video once again Baz 👏🏿 👍🏻
Awesome as usual Baz 👍
amazing job ive done the old vauxhall timing chain job and would not want to do one of them
Great positivity throughout 👌

That looks a horrendous job to do, well done for smashing it out at your usual high quality Baz 💪
so great sitting watching you your a star an apprentice would learn loads from you
Appreciate this buddy 🤙
Top job there, Baz, that elbow grease is some stuff awesome. You got me hook on it know swear by it 😊
Where do I start Baz asks?
Put the vehicle on a low loader and drop it off at the local scrapyard, you'll get £9.99 for that on a good day.

I'd be checking the injectors buddy you may have one leaking off more than the others, old school leak off test would be the first thing I'd do

Remind me to never buy an insignia . What a ball ache of a job just to change a timing chain
Astra 1.6 cdti is the same as its the same engine and box, stupid design who puts a chain on the gearbox side

I have a good idea, let’s sandwich a problematic component on an inaccessible side of an engine…. Said no mechanic, ever.

Complicated build engine,,I wonder why costumer drove 4hours way to get it all done,,no one want to do this sort of jobe
