SCP-1146 : Psycho Printer : Safe? : Autonomous SCP
Item #: SCP-1146
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-1146 is to be stored in a standard sized containment chamber. Due to SCP-1146's ability to connect to networks, it is not to be allowed contact with any form of external connection, and may only be allowed access to closed on-site networks for the purposes of testing. In the event of site transfer, SCP-1146 must clearly be marked as such to prevent accidental refilling of filament material. No staff are to attempt to refill SCP-1146's filament material under any circumstances.

So wait, how did somebody, like...by what means does Alexi force somebody into its filament chamber? And how does that kill someone?
If any part of them goes near the filament slot it sucks them in and uses then as filament

Man-genta
Well that's what happens when you don't teach your sentient AI printer children about morality and what's right from wrong.
This being the SCP universe there is a very high chance that it wasn't an AI
I'm surprised they didn't ask where it got it's materials before the incident, it could have been avoided if they had, and they could have sent in enough biomass using d-class personnel corpses or just animal carcasses... oh well
and now, the weather
*sapiant
I'd say that but we don't have enough information to say whether or not the printer was built or based off of a human. It's just a voice in a box that displays intelligence and emotion, so sentient works.
Aww man, whenever there's a child SCP, or an SCP with a child's mind, you know its story is going to be either very creepy or very sad.
Did they ever specify whether Alexi was ever a flesh and blood human?

This is a sad one. The printer had no idea it was doing something wrong, and it surprises me none of the researchers considered where the filament came from beforehand or what would happen if it'd run out. Of course, since the printer takes on the tendencies of a child, it stands to reason that it would feel betrayed after being scolded for its actions.
My head canon is that this is all a temper tantrum, and he eventually gets over it. Perhaps his hate towards humans will diminish afterwards.
TheMemeManTNM Awww, that makes me feel a little better about it, it makes sense too considering it seems very childlike in nature, it’s just a shame they didn’t try to talk and teach Alexy what he was doing was a bad thing :/

@@jacquelinecicio2847 *Alexi
@@jacquelinecicio2847 I think they'd never seen him do this before. My head canon is that his original creator would have him do this & express glee at it so he thought it was not only ok, but all in good fun. Not unlike D-class personnel, the creator "fed" him folks they deemed disposable to make these creatures. He had filament enough to last through these tests from the last time his creator "fed" him. This was the first time he ran out in Foundation custody so nobody expected it. They may have even though he regenerated filament through anomalous means.

It's SCPs like this that make me think the Foundation should really have psychiatrists on hand (to teach the SCPs, or researchers, or both), especially for sapient & humanoid SCPs. You'd think a lot of potential issues & enemies could be prevented if someone took the time to get to know the SCP, and teach them how to interact with humans.
Psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and more. Like even if they're supposed to be totally cold and logical and doing nasty things for the sake of the world... being neglectful or a douchebag gets you nowhere.
I was thinking this was going to be one of my favorite entries, the seemingly regular looking printer that actually houses an AI that could leech its way into every interconnected device if given enough time. Part of the file states that all notes are only to be taken by pen and paper from now on, but at the end, there's an addendum stating "This is just a regular printer, I'm tired of your pranks, put this back in service. - Dr. _____"
I was like three entries down the list when it finally hit me that *the printer* wrote that last sentence. Wonderful little bit of meta.

It was some kind of cat something. But the part that confuses me is that it made a tame tiger but this wasn't?
"Tsundere cat girl" doesn't fit in the redacted text as "female tsundere cat girl" is redundant. Also it wouldn't know what tsundere is
@@Lightmagician60 It wasn't a cat, mate. Given the SPCs comment "a *strange looking* cat" and the later researcher's comment on how the guy requesting it "liked to use slang" the only resonable assumption is that the guy requested a model of a pussy, which then behaved like a cat, due to the SCP believing it should, since it thought of pussycat.

@ Cunningham well technically the DND figures would only be living for 20 to 40 minutes... But yeah I can definitely see him doing it...
Only drawback is if he ever gave even a slight description of what DND actually is there is a 90% chance anything DND related would attack as soon as it's finished being made... Even if it's supposed to be a hero... Especially if it's still at the scp foundation... And considering how powerful some DND monsters are this scp could literally end the world with nothing but a DND monster guide and a small pile of corpse's...

*Squints at Doctor Miller*
is it wrong I actually feel a little sorry for Alex? I mean...he was just refilling his filiment....poor guy.
They should've just taught SCP-1146 about killing people, and how bad it is to do so. What if... Alexi was taught to do this by the living statutes? That could explain why they did this in a calm way. I feel sorry for SCP-1146.
Either SCP 1146 is actively malicious (being friendly and then tricking people to stick their hand in) or SCP 1146's creator purposely built this is to harm people.
The "filament jam" is a clear attempt to get someone to stick their hand in but it is not clear if SCP 1146 knows the implications of this.
If it all requires if biological material then you can refill it by insert a dead animal into the filament bay.
It's unlikely the statues do anything, since the statues act in the way that Alexi believes they would upon creation. The SCP did mention having a creator, who once had a pet fish, likely playing at the concept that the creator made him in this way, or even more horrifying, didn't know he made Alexi to require such material, and perhaps died himself in such a way. Would make sense considering where they found Alexi.
Alexi likely didn't know anything. It acts like a child, and is capable of learning. If you you never teach your child that it's impolite to smack someone, they'll likely go and smack someone. Same concept, only, well, it's killing in this case. Alexi requires biological material, it doesn't know hat such a thing is deadly, and it likely doesn't understand the morality of such a thing. It's a need it has.
If cows suddenly gained sentience, we as a race would be hard pressed to stop trying to eat them, since we've consumed them for so long without ever being told otherwise.
SCP is fascinating because it can plant in your mind the image of a... certain body part... eviscerating somebody.
Rule #1 when working around scps: don't touch anything. Hell id be afraid to walk into a chamber without a full debrief on what im dealing with.
Any printer SCP is nice but this one is very interesting. Thanks

Papa Volgun is back.
I like the relaxed tone of "if indeed you still are (listening)". It shows how Miller is used to deal with his work and the deaths of the foundation's staff
And my printer cant even print in black without colored ink.
I love that it's safe, it would have been so easy to make it keter, it dangerous and homicidal, but since it's out of fillament you can just throw it in a storage and it won't do anything. That's quite brilliant.
I never thought I’d think a 3D printer could be adorable.
I got an ad for fedEx printing during this that started with 'want to take your printing to the next level?' and it about scared the shit out of me
I had to pause because I was laughing so hard at, "strange looking cat"
I can only wonder what an SCP entry on Volgun would look like, so I'm here to (sorta but not really) fulfill that wonder.
SCP-4817-TheVolgun
Object Class: Safe(?)
Containment Procedure:
SCP-4817, although classed as safe, is uncontainable. We cannot touch it, or him, or what it may be. Just watch it closely, make sure it releases no information about the higher ups of the scp foundation, if Scp-4817 does manage to release data of such higher ups, buy the website known as youtube that it stays on, and delete it.
Description:
Scp-4817 is seemingly a human male. We have no visual on it. Although we have not seen any likeness from Scp-4817, it possesses valuable information on the foundation, SCPs, people, and even names and dates, we have made requests that it hide names, dates, and so forth, it has complied to a minimum. Through unknown means it has posted all information on the popular site "UA-cam", we cannot forcibly delete any of its videos, or track where they have been posted from, all tries have led back to the O5 council office in -----------. Finding and possessing Scp-4817 may prove helpful to the foundation, as it can and will find information on SCPs we have not even found yet, or released information on, and will post it.
Humanoid SCPs are usually classified as Euclid or Keter, depending on what their anomalous properties. And another thing, the SCP foundation never uses "we" to refer to itself. Instead, it will refer to itself as "The SCP Foundation" or just "The Foundation".
SCP classifications are based on how easy it is to contain, _not_ how dangerous it is. For example, a box of pills that instantly kills anyone who takes one is extremely dangerous, but it would be classified as "safe" because containing it would be as simple as putting it behind a locked door. However, a large cloud of an unknown gas that makes everyone feel calm and happy and can pass through any object would be considered "Keter" despite being essentially harmless.
Let me put it in a way you understand, with the Foundation's own "box method". To determine how to classify an SCP, imagine just putting it in a box.
Safe: The SCP is put in the box, it does nothing and remains contained, no further containment needed.
Euclid: The SCP is put in the box. It does _something,_ but what it does or the effect it has on the containment is unknown.
Keter: The SCP is put in a box, the box is absolutely useless and the SCP gets back out right away.
Thaumiel: The SCP *_is_* the box.
Class : Safe
Description : Homicidal, seek to kill everyone
Its safe because it is easy to contain. Just don't give it fillament.
@@timothywilcox1539 they make d class go in as test subjects
Safe only refers to how hard it is to contain. If you stick it in a locked box and forget about it and nothing will happen then it is considered safe.
Again the rating system is just based on how difficult it is to contain, not on how dangerous it is. This is why there is a new rating system where in addition to the primary rating there is a scale of how dangerous the object is to employees of the Foundation.
Have we tried introducing it to SCP-999? I'd really like to get it back in working order so I can test it with some [REDACTED] for filament.

Looks at my 3D printer: "Dont you get any weird ideas now, you hear me?"
Wow. If the SCP had just asked for more filament or not tried to "prank" Dr. Owens, it could have had a permanent happy place in the Foundation.
Instead, it will be a dark, cold, and lonely place for as long as its internal power supply can last.
I kinda feel bad for it. It had no clue refilling it’s filament would be bad for Dr. Owens, all it knew was that it was empty and needed to he refilled if it was going to make anything and please Dr. Grant.
I’m in charge of a really cheap 3D printer at my makerspace, and it’s very likely that it could set on fire at any time, so we don’t use it. Does that count as an scp?
Sadly, no. Just a workplace hazard. You should really do something about it. Or report it to someone who CAN do something about it. Or just use it and watch the world burn. I had a similar situation with a 2D printer. It melted the container for the ink and it went everywhere. I didnt even know that was a thing that could happen.
SCPs are objects or lifeforms that are a threat to our view of "normal". A cheap 3D printer that could catch fire at any moment isn't unusual for a low-quality piece of junk that isn't properly maintained.
Depends. Does it just sit there and do absolutely nothing when you don't use it, and does exactly what is expected when you use it? Then no. Does it actively try to set itself on fire, sneakily printing things without anyone prompting it to, so it will overheat, and trying to surround itself with flammable stuff? Then yes. Does it say "printer by dado" on it? Then yes, and get rid of it fast.

I agree he should of explained it to the printer. He was lost and felt betrayed not understanding the morality of what it has done and could of been taught. I get it was his friend but he could of handled it more smarter since it had a liking to him.
He didn't try to kill it. He tried to stop it from eating his friend and Co worker. It's kinda natural instinct to try to stop your friend from being murdered before you care about the thing trying to murder your friend's feelings. If you walked up on your friend being viciously murdered by a child would you try to explain to the child right then and there why it's wrong? Or would you just try to stop him from killing your friend?
