l have a true story! I watched this video last night. This morning I tried it out just as you described. I went into the local post office this afternoon and an elegant older lady was at the counter sending a parcel to France. I live in a small town in Australia. We chatted a bit and she said “I thought when you walked in - this girl looks French” A. I am 60 yrs old and B. I am not French. But thank you Angela! ❤

@ylva571 That lady needs to come over to Paris and update her knowledge in French makeup fashion. That look is more Italian, Spanish or Portuguese. But not French, let alone Parisian! If I saw someone made up that way in the street I'd immediately identify her as a foreign tourist.

This is so true! My mother is French and this is what she taught me: don't try to change your face, just enhance your best features. And the goal is to look like you're not wearing any makeup at all. Angela, your French makeup is the most authentic I've seen!

@delphinehautefeuille exactly! We dot wear makeup to change our face but only to enhance our features. That's why we never wear many products and don't cover our skin with foundation, powder, highlighter, bronzer and other stuff. A good moisturiser, spf, blush, mascara and lipstick and we are done! More than that, we're considered as eccentric!

The blotting of the lipstick, the reapplying and powdering over the lips with a tissue is the way they did it in the 1950s. Nothing has changed. It worked perfectly then as it does now. I did exactly this myself from that decade.

The one time I went to Paris was in 2003, and I clearly remember the understated beauty of the women I saw. Your first video on French beauty summed it up pretty well . One afternoon my friend and I walked through one of the many small streets the width of an alley, and suddenly, a woman on a bicycle came zooming toward us with two small children: one on the handle bars, and one behind her holding tightly. She wore a dress, ballet flats, hair loosely bundled on her head, bold red lips, and a cigarette hanging from the corner of her mouth 👄. She sped through quickly, but the image has remained in my mind ever since. I came back to San Francisco with a "new" style to wear!!!

Thank you, Angela, for some great make-tips.
I would like to share that as a 76-year old, two things that have made a big difference in my appearance are:
    1) Brow Mascara (mostly removed) because when we age not only do our brows become gray or white but their volume diminishes and we lose expression when this happens.
I apply Brow Mascara, the lightest shade I can find, and then I use a brow brush to remove most of it.
    2) Lash Extensions (Natural or Classic applications):
I always wanted to do this when I lived in Manhattan but it was prohibitively expensive.
But when I moved to Colorado I found I could enjoy this beauty service for around $100 and it lasts for around 5 weeks with touchup very affordable -- it looks so natural, soft and pretty -- it does a look for my appearance.

Beautiful look. You have the effortless beauty of a French woman. I love the French idea of minimal makeup routine. I am 59 and during my younger years teens and young woman would never have used concealer. There is no need and I can't understand the obsession with concealer and contour here in the USA. I actually still do not use either. Skin care really is key!

Beautiful. All I could add is that 1- like you said, bronzer is not for contouring but for enhancing the skin and give a kissed by the sun look (pour avoir une bonne mine), 2- find your right shade of nude(s), the one that will make your face shine, and stick to it, 3- blotting and powdering definitely works, so you don’t need a lip pencil for every lipstick, 4- like my maman always said, don’t leave the house without applying blush and lipstick 😂

I truly appreciate and love the less is more approach to makeup as I am getting older. If I put on too much of any product my look turns fake immediately. It is harder and harder to do because you see less and your hands get shakier not to mention skin sagging. LOL 😂
I definitely remember watching my mother (French) putting on her makeup to go out. She did do the powder trick with her lipstick. I can’t believe I haven’t thought about that for over 50 years. I remember loving the smell of the powder she used on her face. No foundation. She filled in her eyebrows and she NEVER wore red lipstick. For my whole life she has worn a very bright coral lipstick. I think she could’ve really rocked some darker colors. Anyway thanks for the memory and thanks for your “French Videos”. I am enjoying them very much.

I Totally forgot that lipstick trick with tissues! A great one. Made watching valuable just for that. Also, I have that blush, rediscovered it, and was trying to figure out how to wear it. I also have that nail color and those lipsticks. Love that look on you.
One thing I like to do if I've used a powder foundation, and powder products over them, is to take a wet face cloth, wring it out, and press it into my face when I'm done applying. It melds the colors, removes excess, and imparts a natural, dewy look. Sets everything too.
I am so glad you are doing these French looks. I'm so tired of seeing heavy foundations, clownish blush, orange bronzer, and garish eye looks. Makeup should make us look pretty, not stagey. Such wonderful videos. Thank you.💚

I saw that there was something really lovely and luminous about that look. I personally only wear mascara on curled lashes. I do perfect my skin a little, but with a soft tinted moisturizer and a soft peach or rose blush. On my lips I use a darker peach or rose, blott it and then add clear gloss. I do have nice healthy skin. This has turned into an easy way for me to enhance my face. Men like that clean radiant expression of

Fun video! I think my mostly French DNA accounts for how attracted I have been to minimal makeup 😊. I resonate completely with the idea of showcasing your own beauty instead of painting on someone else's ideas. I was just in Mexico and it was so interesting to see how much make up the women slather on, not even necessarily using A cooler color palette when they're coloring really wanted that. They apply a warm color palette by default, probably because most people there do have a warm skin undertone. For the most part, like Italian women, a lot of them have the strong features that carry the weight of that much make up much better than I would with more northern DNA, Or whatever it is that gives me smaller pores and smaller features in general. No
I never needed mascara when I was young, and foundation looked like a bit much even when it was a great color (coverage for those occasional breakouts!), Clownish, really. Like I have been playing in my mother's make up drawer.
All I needed was a little brow plucking, and lipgloss. (For a while I even put clear lipgloss on my eyelids. Interesting phase!)
Now at over 60, I attribute good skin to heredity plus leaving it alone for the most part. Gentle exfoliation and the occasional mask, all non-toxic non-chemical products for the most part. I cleanse it with water, and sometimes with the oil cleansing method. I love it that people think I'm younger than I am. I don't do additional SPF protection because I want my vitamin D & minimize polyunsaturated oil intake. I go without foundation most of the time, but when I want a polished look I haven't found anything better or more convenient than the Christina compact. It's a compact of four colors (with lots of different options depending on your skin tone). Depending on the time of year I dip into either the lighter or the darker tones more. You can literally buff away minor imperfections and it does a good job of hiding bigger imperfections. There's a light highlighter (Which I rarely use), A deep neutral for eyes (Which is my summer tan foundation choice because I don't really do eyeshadow), a lighter neutral for skin (My regular foundation choice, occasionally mixed with the darker one as my skin changes from summer tan to winter pale), and a blush/bronzer color (which is fun to use in the summertime to enhance an outdoorsy Sun-kissed glow). It gives me the no make up look that I love while providing a professional polished look. What I love the most about it is how easy it is to travel with a little compact, a few different brushes, mascara and a little lip color and I'm good to go all in one little Zip bag.
I love your mascara trick, even though it feels a bit wasteful. I never seem to be able to wipe enough mascara off of the wand to get that clean look. I'm definitely going to try it. My lashes are no longer thick and full as they used to be, and a few have turned gray, so the mascara helps and I use a narrow angled brush to put on a super fine line of dark eyeshadow as my eyeliner. Regular eyeliner it just started to look a little too harsh. The fine line of powder makes it look like I've got thicker lashes, naturally. 😮Sometimes it's deep, dark taupe, a dark graphite gray, or even a dark green gray. Depends on my mood. I love blending lipstick color also, and my goal, my favorite, is to go with the color of my lips, the deeper color just further in my mouth. Semi gloss still seems to work despite my age, Oddly enough. I mix whatever colors I've got to achieve that. Polished and completely harmonious.

I'm so impressed. So little make up- such a beautiful result. This is very much how i like to do my make-up. I live in Canada but my background is Polish. I'd say Polish women are similar in that they don't like to use a lot of make up. Definitely no foundation every day.

I appreciate your photos and videos of Paris. I think Paris is a great city and I love traveling France 🇫🇷 in general. 👍🏻🤩 Their beauty esthetics are very chic and naturally beautiful. Of course, I do think knowing what skin care works for you would be the 🔑 key to looking beautiful no matter where you are from. Thank you, thank you for sharing as always, Angela! I am looking forward to see more from the French series. I hope Angela and all of you, have a great day!❤😍🇫🇷💄💝❤️

This was a very enjoyable video. Thank you. I am reminded how much I love Paris and the style/makeup aesthetic that is so French. I bought the Cle de Peau Legendary Red lipstick from your previous French-themed video, and have begun enjoying a nice red lip as my "look." Thank you for your ideas, lessons, demonstrations, and for being yourself. ❤️ I am 66 and will always love to learn more.

Love this video. It exemplifies my makeup philosophy exactly. I honestly believe that this philosophy, from early girlhood to now, has been the reason I have such wonderful skin at the ripe old age of 77! I'm a believer of the adage "Less is more". Thanks for you thoughts.

I have Germanic/Italian/Hungarian european genetics (light skin, blue eyes and dark blonde hair with highlights). I tend to always mix my lipsticks. A darker rosy pink base (like Tom Ford 'Indian Rose') with a more nude/neutral center like Nars 'Barbara' or Revlon 'Nude Attitude'. They kind of mix together to form a rosy-tan neutral which is just the right amount of color but doesn't wash me out. I like to line lips with CT Pillow Talk or Mac Whirl.

    • @lesliehatch-herman9325
      @lesliehatch-herman9325 Рік тому

Tom Ford’s Indian Rose has been my go-to lipstick for awhile now. I have some distinctly English/Welsh/Scottish/Germanic genes at work-blue eyes, reddish (now with some grey) hair, pale skin with freckles. I’m in my mid-50s, and am trying to use less makeup more effectively. I appreciate your suggestion about the lipstick mix, and I’ll compare the two nude colors to see what might work best. Thank you, Liz!!

This look is beautiful. If you don't like wiping off your mascara wand each time, I recommend 'full fat lashes' by charlotte tilbury. It goes on thin and natural without clumping but still amplifies the lashes impressively. It's been my go-to for years.

Love this series. I agree about concealer- I’m 48 and invariably the concealer just finds my wee creases and makes the situation worse. I avoid that stuff at all costs and if I do use under eye it’s more on my cheekbone area

Hi Lola and a huge thank you for watching my video :) Concealer can be tricky and I find that as we age less is more. I feel like people in their early 20s can do anything just because the skin is really plump and there are no fine lines but with age we need to adjust our makeup techniques. Thank you so much for sharing your tip and have a beautiful weekend. xoxo

I have to chuckle a little because when a teen...I had very little money for makeup. I just did my eyes. No blush. Lipstick for special occasions. Now that I am in my 70's it is about the same. Now, it is still the eyes, soft eyeshaow, soft blush, soft lip color. Bolder reds for special occasions. I get compliments for "looking young." I am not sure if they are complimenting me or flattering me...I know very well I am not young or beautiful. lol. When I was young I was much more interested in being a barefaced "tom boy." When I got older I learned how to look more "put together." Still...I like working in my garden, no make up at all...just a smudge of dirt, a leaf or twig caught in my hair sometimes. 😉
