Hi Angela! I am an italian woman and I live in the North of the Country, but my relatives are from the South. I've noticed that there are some differences between the two parts, but overall on a daily basis italian women do not wear eyeshadow at all or rarely one nude colour. Only older women wear red and deep lipsticks, during the day; for the others they do wear it at night or in special occasions.
In the North of the Country women regularly use eyeliner and mascara and the base is made as you said. We don't like to have shiny faces so you'll never find an extremely dewy complection.
In the South women don't like their makeup to show up so the base is extremely natural but with colour: no pale faces where the sun shines the majority of the year! So yes bronzer and blush and we can call it a day without making up the eyes. On the lips we can put a tiny amount of lipstick or lip gloss.
If the Italians from the North sometimes, in special occasion use eyeshadows, in the South they never use it: they put an effort more on the lips or otherwise on a winged eyeliner (never both at the same time!)
Summing up in Italy you look polished and put together if you skin is well curated and the base is perfected and natural.
Nevertheless there are also people like me who loves make up and wear bold colours on the eyes or the lips (never both as our french cousins). It is pefectly fine (speaking always of italian culture) wearing blue eyeshadow or a bright lipstick, but if you choose a bold look you have to master it and do it very well because people will stare at you.

This was a really fun video. My husband’s family is French & my family is Italian. Unapologetic, by Cle de Peau is my favorite red lipstick that I’ve ever worn. My daughter truly has the best of both worlds! I watched my Nonna put on red lipstick every time before we went out in public….ALWAYS! It’s a beautiful memory, when I think of her.

This was really fun, helpful, and interesting to watch. K-beauty does emphasize on skin care a lot, too. Because of Covid-19, there is a bit more focus on the eyes, but the eyeshadows in general have a sheer and muted look. Korean women usually love their lip products and some people change them in between like myself. Glossy lips are making more of a comeback nowadays. Thank you, thank you for sharing as always, Angela! I hope Angela and all of you have a great weekend! 🇫🇷🇮🇹💄🤩💝💕🥰❤️

I am italian and I thank you for the beautiful things you said about my country and culture. I am 58,but I always make up because I am slim, so I use fuseau, leggings., short dresses, so I make up.. You are true, I don't use a lot of foundation, but I use eyeliner and blush and red lipstick. I am honey blond, as natural, now I picture my hair at home because I begin to be grey.
I use mascara of course. You told many beautiful things. A beautiful video, thank you. Young girl and women uses false lashes today in Italy but it is easy to be to much false and not ladies. I use eyeliner and mascara only at the end of my eyes because I have eyes too much near the nose. They call this style cat eyes.

Thank you for this video, Angela! You did a great and accurate job. I'm italian (pale skin, blue eyes, reddish blonde hair) and I can comfirm what you said about our makeup style :) I love my country but I also love and admire France a lot. Italy and France are both full of art, culture, beauty, tradition and history. French women have an incredible allure, I adore their personality, style and identity. We really don't prefer to pack our faces with a lot of stuff and look like a completely different and unrealistic person, beauty is about enhancing what we already have and feeling confident in our skin. :)

As an Italian American, I found it so interesting that I naturally gravitate toward the Italian way of doing makeup without prior knowledge of it! The only thing that differs is that I prefer blush over bronzer, but I like peachier tones. As you can see from my profile pic, I love a red lip!

  • @pinagrrrr2280
    @pinagrrrr2280 17 днів тому

For the Italians, the eyeliner and the mascara are a must. The brows are also important. The sunnier time, the bronzer is more used. Lips, it depends on the occasion. Eyeshadows not, glassy skin also not really a thing. Sometimes only corrector concealer instead of the foundations but these days skin tints or spf bb creams can do.

Fun comparison. I am Italian and French but also American. I actually like and have done similar looks of each. What I am finding is my makeup application is changing with age rather than nationality or where I come from. I used to enjoy very bold looks in my 20s. I will be 60 in a couple of months and now my focus is on beautiful skin and a lightly enhanced eye. I used to like deep red lipstick but as I am aging I find brighter reds easier to wear. Thanks for doing this series. I have been enjoying it.

For a long time, you've reminded me of someone famous. Seeing these two sides made me think of Dita Von Teese and Jennifer Connely.
The French side is obviously more comfortable for you. I prefer it as a daily look, however, the Italian side is superb for an evening look.
Since you've srarted this series, Angela, I've been wondering if there is an Australian makeup look. In the 80s and 90s, there was. It was always the bronzed girl next door. I think, now, it is a hybridised blend of the American Insta contouring with a bit of Korean dewiness and the Euro naturalness of the lips. There is a growing trend of clean beauty with an emphasis on clean girl colours.

I'm Italian, seventy,j ash blond and I have green eyes. I take care of my skin, but I see other women my age who are less interested in skin care, sunbathe a lot without sunscreen. Today my makeup is lighter than before: a little foundation, concealer, powder blush, eyeshadow in shades of pink and beige, shaded brown eyeliner, black mascara, highlighter in strategic points and pink-nude lipstick. In the evening, I intensify my make-up, but not too much, because tiredness can create shadows.

I love both styles. For the daytime I don't use many makeup products. Most often just sun defense with color or BB cream with SPF with mascara and lip lacquer by Chanel, sometimes I use eyeliner and eyeshadows or just put a tiny golden spot.
I love the style of classical movie actresses, especially their thick eyeliner.

Hello Angela! I am Italian and I wear my make up as you have explained. I like soft brown eyeliner, sometimes green or grey. It depends on my dress. In the week, I like a little bit of foundation, concelear only under my eyes, blush, mascara and gloss. You are right: lip contour is important for us. After this, I use gloss, red lips are for special occasions.

Go up with your brush strokes. Always up. Use SPF. Thick brows are out. Natural shape is back. Stay away from “eye makeup remover “. I like Clinique bar soap, but a mild soap to remove eye makeup is best. Every woman I’ve ever known that uses eye makeup remover has so many wrinkles and they look so much older than they are. I personally don’t try to look younger (I’m almost 50), I’m always trying to accentuate my features. I love your eye makeup tips. At my age, I’m staying away from darker lip colors. I live in Florida, USA and it’s very casual here. In my age group, I’m going for shades closest to my natural lip color, even in the evening. Go with your personal budget. Splurge sometimes, but don’t go overboard. No one takes makeup bags to heaven. Thank you for the great tips and fun with the styles! You’re just as beautiful in the beginning of the video as in the ending! You can have the most beauty on the outside of anyone in the room, but you will be remembered the most for your beautiful heart. ❤

This video was great! I’m American and 56. My mother and grandmother were very into skin care with minimal makeup. I learned from them how to take care of my skin early on (except we had no spf when I was little🥺) My grand mother never wore foundation. She used Coty powder with a puff. She use red lipstick always and she used it as her “rouge” as well. She wore a little mascara. My mother wore very little foundation and light eyeshadow with mascara, Pink blush, and a mauve lipstick color . I love the French girl makeup… except for the brows my brows have to look natural but defined. I have hooded eyes and wear glasses, it helps to lift them up🥹!

I’m Italian and I’m 46 and never had to do my brows because I had very bushy thick brows and never had to apply any concealer or foundation until I was 40 years old as my skin was flawless before but now I like to cover up sun spots and darkness under my eyes which I never used to have. The joys of aging! On the mascara is true I like long lashes but not clampy the eyeliner I cannot wear it as I have small hooded eyes so that does not suit my eye shape but I love to see it on other people

Concealer I uses lighter color of foundation. I love a think brow. I use bronzer with a touch of cream blush. I use a spray setting spay and barely Pat under the eye.
Eye showdown, I use a very light shimmer on my eyelids and define it with a earth brown at the edges.
I wear a brown tight liner for every day. A black if I’m going out, my eyelashes are very light for day, way darker for night, I work on the edges more than the whole lash.

Their is this Korean trend nowadays, to have glowy/shiny face...and I remember that all my Italian friends (when I live in Switzerland🇹🇴) were doing their make up like that. They had some primer émulsion to achieve this glistening finish. So, it was the fashion in Italy....maybe 18 years ago 🤣🤣🤣 I'm so old, that I remember when only places to buy Casadei shoes was in Milano🇮🇹 and 🇫🇷Cannes.
Anyone who didn't have a ton of KIKO and Bourjois make up items ,missed a lot of fun in their life 🥖🧀🍷🍕

I like both sides, but I prefer the eyes and cheeks on the Italian side. The brows & lips are better on the French side.

My great grandmother was a pale skinned, blue eyed blonde Italian from a family of artists who traveled the country painting murals mostly in churches. I never got to meet her but my mom says she was lovely. Most Italians in the US are primarily Sicilian so the perception is that Italians are darker.

You’re right about Italians varying in hair, eye and skin shades. My mother’s family came from Milan and my maternal aunts range from blond, to red, to brown hair, with hazel, brown and blue eyes and skin tones from very fair to medium. My father’s family is from Florence, and all have dark hair and eyes, with medium skin tones. I have very dark hair and eyes, with light skin that is neutral tending to cool. Apparently, my makeup tendencies are Italian because I do love mascara and deep, bright lip colors and I use soft liner on the outer portion of my eyes. Thanks for an interesting video!

I 💕 the French 🇫🇷 side!!! 🙈 I love a bold lash, however. I have to try the second mascara on the tips.

I'm Italian and just a funny story, my mother actually didn't realize that the darker spots she had were sun damage, she thought it was just age related or freckles 😅 she was never big on sun protection, she realized how important it is when I started to get really dark spots on my face (I have very fair skin and unfortunately I didn't start a proper SPF routine up until I was in my late twenties)

I always appreciate your clean beauty products! Have you seen "Not So Pretty," an American HBO documentary? It got buried, I believe by the beauty industry, but it's horrifying using apps to see what makeup has no banned ingredients in it, and it's impossible. The EU has much better regulations than in the US. I love your recommendations because I cannot find them online somehow in English or Russian speaking places :) P.S. I love the oil highlighter at the end - that's a great idea!!
