      All that was needed to defeat Morgoth was a host from Vala which they could have done at the very beginning. What makes all middle dramas point less lol
      And Morgoth was never so powerful or anything that many could beat him, so calling him almighty powerful dark lord was kind of lame.

      everyone who knows these legends well knows Morgoth's greatest servant was actually Feanor as reward to Morgoth for the slaying of his father and destroying his people's place in bliss he dedicated all their future to service of Morgoth's aims to their end. This is the fate of all fools and Feanor doing so continuously yet unwillingly makes him the biggest fool in all of literature.

    Sauron: Fine. I'll do it myself.
    Did Sauron ever intend to continue Morgoth's work of destroying everything, or did he just co-opt his master's remnants for his own time in the spotlight of ruling Middle Earth.
    Also, good on the Edain for getting that island of Numenor. I forsee nothing but long life, purity, and dry lands for them in the future. No siree, no bad ends them whatsoever.

      As far I as know Sauron is about controlling life, and Morgoth is about destroying life. Considering this Sauron would not continue Morgoth's work since his motives are different

    • @lisboah
      @lisboah Рік тому +64

      @@basszoneproduction Precisely. Morgoth wanted to corrupt and/or destroy everything simply to spite Eru and the Valar.
      Sauron was obsessed with order and perfection, and he only joined Morgoth because he believed that Morgoth's power would be used for that.

      @deamongimli Рік тому +33

      @@lisboahI'm not sure how accurate it is to say that Morgoth wanted to destroy everything. Morgoth wanted to create as Eru created but, not being Eru, the best he could do was 'corrupt' the work of the Valar (he technically could not corrupt the work of Eru, for all that Morgoth was came from Eru and was thus part of Eru's design, much to Morgoth's annoyance). Rather than destroy everything, I think Morgoth wanted to remake the world to his own design. This meant that he needed to subjugate all who would oppose his vision, mainly the Valar, and thus, because the Valar oversaw the creation of much of the world, he sought to unmake or corrupt their works to force them to submit.

    Poor Melian. Poor Dortiath. Tolkien said it was via the love between Melian and Thingol that she was empowered beyond her ken, able to then effect physical reality in a way she never could before, thus able to cast and channel the Girdle. Similarly to how Manwë and Varda empower each other. With the death of Melian's husband, she lost the better part of her magic and her anchor to Middle-earth, it was impossible to maintain the barrier and an agony to remain.

      @@myriadmediamusings most assuredly, it's been many thousands of years since then. It is still sad thinking that, if things were different, the population of Doriath wouldn't have been massacred if Melian were able to stay and maintain the barrier. Then again, one could argue the child of Dior needed to get in contact with the child of Tour at the refugee camp to produce Earendil who would bring the Valar to take Morgoth down...so the death of Doriath probably had to happen then as Morgoth would have ultimately been able to overpower Melian anyway.

    Ashame The Tale of Eärendil did not have a specific final version, like The Children of Húrin. JRR Tolkien had so such much to do, that he'd never had time to complete.
    I hope more videos from W&W for the conclusion of Warhammer fantasy End Times and Mongol alt history. Also the continuation of the Horus Heresy, Thrawn campaign and Wheel of Time.

    I hate to spoil this excellent video but I must to give Tolkien justice.
    1. Earendil was already going to Valinor before the Kinslaying. Without the light of the silmaril, he was lost. But you were right he did feel a rush of fear and a desire to return home to see his wife.
    2. You were mistaken about the reason Elwing did not give up the Silmaril. The reason why she did not give it up was because she believed it did not belong to the House of Fanor. She believed it belonged to her family because of the sacrifices they made to obtain it. I believe she grew up with her grandparent and they told her their story.

      In the Battle of the Powers, there was an effective search for Sauron, but well, it's Sauron. He knew Angband better than anyone, and combined with the rush the Valar were in, they ended up being negligent.
      This proved to be an act of incompetence indeed, as Sauron rebuilt Angband and began producing Orcs on a large scale. He also managed to concentrate the Sindar in two poles, while the others had to hide to avoid being massacred. In fact, the Sindar were not defeated only because the Noldor arrived, since if we consider that the Orcs of Battle-under-Stars were originally destined for the Sindar, that is, the army of the First Battle was just a wave of a larger army. The Falathrim and Círdan would probably be dead and Doriath would be surrounded and isolated, this was all planned by Sauron for when the Lord returned, ironically they lacked communication, as Morgoth ruined this plan due to his actions in Valinor.

      I don't know I think it would be genuinely hard to adapt no matter what due to its repetitious and very slow pace
      And unlike Lord of the Rings where From beginning to end the goal is clear and the story is moving towards that goal
      here the ending just kind of comes out of nowhere that the original continent in the gods finally decide to shrug and say all right fine we'll finally do something and the very land that they fought over gets destroyed
      And most of the characters and their struggles are ultimately relatively insignificant
