Have you ever showed up to a gig and realized you needed to fix or replace something last minute? How can you make do with what you have? Master of drum-related problem solving, David Raouf, probably has a solution.
You may know David as rdavidr on UA-cam. His popular channel features drum hacks, alterations and restorations, cool drum gadgets, and anything else he can get his hands on. A bona fide drumming handyman!
David came to Drumeo to film courses on tuning and drum maintenance/repair, as well as his brand new show for Drumeo Edge members (called ‘DIY Drum Experiments’). As if that wasn’t enough, he also shared 25 hacks any drummer can do, which you’ll learn in this video!
Whether he’s modifying sounds with broken cymbals or using graffiti remover to dissolve logos on drum heads, David has a tip for almost anything.

Had a blast! Seriously, I had so much fun filming everything and poking around in the warehouse 👀so. many. drums. haha! Thanks for having me out and thanks to everyone for tuning in!
rdavidr ur epic
Hello rdavidr, what's the tune your playing at the beginning ?
@@tihroflan "Four Play" by Alex Ball. Killer track!
rdavidr Great job! The drumming honestly was probably the most an interesting part of this video… There are like 1 million other drummers that would be way more bad ass that you should probably try to take video of. He’s not bad but he’s probably the most an interesting drummer I have ever watched. But your video skills are fantastic! Great job
This is my favorite of all your playing that I've heard. Very nicely done!
its nice to see david play a couple of songs, he is a great player. And his search for sound is remarkable.
That's right Vault Boy.
Definitely. :)
David's playing is inspiring because it seems like it's actually attainable by mere mortals. While I love to watch the incredible chops of many of the drummers featured on Drumeo, I know that my playing will never come anywhere near their level. David's playing on the other hand is at a level that I can envision myself attaining...with work of course. His playing is impressive, interesting, creative and energetic. It's nice to have players like David to look up to.

Sebastian Wingerath The world needs more people like you.
Mvp
Thank you!!!
beautifulllll
Guys, how do you remove logo from a cymbal?
Great to hear Dave play.
Plus nice to hear such a musical approach, instead of the usual, look at me and how fast I can play.
This has taken far too long but happy to see him on the channel.
kosta1605 he’s been on before, a few months ago.
Yes yes I always wanted to see this guy on drumeo. His channel is so fun to watch
:) Did you catch the other video that he did while he was out? ua-cam.com/video/6aKQKd6VouI/v-deo.html
We need signature Rdavid's beard beater, like felt, but facial hair one
YES!!! It can resemble his face looking up at the drummer position and you rotate to Beard Side for softer feel and around to the "top of his head" for more attack (maybe Hard Black Felt? Or wood or plastic molded to look like his hair?) AWESOME!! RdavidR Reversible Black Beard Beater!!!
@@bigkickleo omg, we can even make his eyes burn with red leds when you screw up the beat
Big Kick LEO hmmm, I might make one of those
This just goes to show you dont have to be super fast and super flashy with your playing. Hes such a solid in the pocket drummer doing fairly simple things. Good groove
i love hearing david play drums. you can tell that he`s really enjoying it, and it translates to the notes amazingly well. plus, he has a sick groove!
Our beard god is finally here
His beard is definitely on an epic level.
I guess Thor wanted to have a change of scenery and decided to play the drums...
As a DIY drum hardware guy myself, I've long been a fan of David's channel. It's great to watch him play more than he usually does when testing. Badass player. That's maybe my favorite Drumeo backing track, too.
I have learned so much from this guy. And seeing him on here has made my day. He is so important to have in our drumming world. Thanks for all the help and advice David.
to be honest, david's drum chops are not exactly "out of this world" but his crafts and inventions are genius level stuff
Yeah but he has gotten a ton better over the course of his channel
@@spartandrew8672 agree
He did just fine....................I thought the doubles were controlled and even.
Yes. He is the "Godfather of drumhacks".
I find that, perhaps because of his lack of perceived skill, his drumming is unique and more interesting to listen to than others'. He's got loads of groove.
So cool to see David on Drumeo when you've been following his channel on and off the last few years. Seems like a very kind man with great drumming knowledge. He so earned this. Great job David and great job Drumeo for inviting him!
warms my heart seeing dudes i've followed make it to drumeo! makes me feel like i'm truly part of a great community!
1:51 cameraman shaking his head to the groove
looks like he is eating something too
Dave's so solid, doesn't over play and is very complementary to the track. Bloody good episode Drumeo!
Absolutely incredible style. So much fun watching and listening to you groove
I'm so happy David is on Drumeo! And is great he's playing this cool intro! This is another thing not boring stuff! A very different style breaking the form! Thank for bringing David to us in Drumeo!
He is one of my favorite drummers on UA-cam!
What a tasty groove at 35:20. I had to wrire that down.
rdavidr The Master of drum hacks! Decent drummer and sound guy too! Give this dude a follow if you haven't already!
Nice one Drumeo!
Moriacana band “decent”?
He is such a solid player. The playing right at the end was creative af
I already knew quite a few of his hacks, simply cause I've always looked for quick inexpensive ways to fix something on my kit, & we all know frequent trips to the local music store gets costly quick. That being said, David's tips (hacks) are Inexpendable to us drummers! Glad he has shared alot of his ideas & hacks with us, thanks again Dave & thanks to Drumeo too for having him on
HOW CAN I LIKE THIS MORE THAN ONCE?! David Rouf is the Dude!! Been following and enjoying his content for a long time. Happy to see this collaboration 🤘🏻🦁
Hell yeah, I’ve been following David since the beginning and it’s crazy to see him pop up on a big channel like this.
David is good not only on building things...I also enjoy his drumming ideas and his pocket every time he tries his gear.
Thx Drumeo.
Two of my favorite channels together! I can't wait to use these hacks. Some are extremely useful/frugal.
I really really love both hand-work and drums, and David combines both, plus he seems like a genuinly great dude. Great great stuff on his channel. Thanks Drumeo for introducing him to me!
Fun fact: this video was uploaded to soon last year and was visible on the channel for some time. Nice David you have made it!
Juupke But it’s literally the most mediocre drumming I’ve ever heard… I would say the editor and videographer have made it
Colin Bigelow go hate your grandma dude, this is clearly an especific learning video, he is not even bragging about his skill, this is just purely informative and usefull stuff to use for EVERY LEVEL DRUMMER, just as his channel (not to mention that david is very authentic and funny/cool to watch)and it is these kind of people that actually do stuff with their channels what helps the community, not just commenting hate with an empty channel, cheers
Colin Bigelow what’s even the point of wasting time saying negative shit about fellow musicians
David’s ideas are so simple and brilliant that’s all I need to say!👏
Some really fab and helpful tips David and thanks for sharing with us. I knew of a few of them but you have opened my eyes and hears with your post.
Greatly admire all David's gadgetry and recycling stuff but really good to see (hear) him belting one out - well done Mr Dude
David is amazing! I'm so happy for him playing on Drumeo
I love listening to good linear drummers. Nice job!
That ending song was so groovy. Nice playing. Thanks Dave
Love the video. I've watched David videos for a long time and it is nice to see him on Drumeo!!! Greetings from Mexico!
Total respect to the one and only Multi technician, wood and metal worker, smart constructions builder and an amazing Funky Drummer Worldwide!! Hello David, you 're super nice dude!!! Talented and simple and awesome all of your work!!!Greetings from Greece!!!
THE CROSSOVER WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR!!! The drumming community thanks you 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
They finally got David in here, yes
David, work, discipline and a lot a work, that’s your legacy, thanks!
This video is brilliant! Thank you so much! 🙏🏾
I must be quite creative, I have figured almost all these out by playing out a lot. It's a survival kit of sorts. Nice episode
Christopher Bloom agreed. Even cheaper things like plastic pen caps for cymbal sleeves, hardware store lamp chains for cymbal sizzle, and women’s shoe gel inserts for drum dampeners!
Great! Enjoyed it very much and great to see you get time on here as well.
An old timer taught me how to cut a hole in the kick drum head by heating up an empty tin can on the stove or with a lighter, then punch it right through the head. Comes out smooth every time.
BrandonPryorMusic wasn’t this him a while back?
@@kobepowell8752 This trick has been around for a very long time. David R. is just one person in a long line of other people to use it. Modern Drummer wrote about it in an issue from 1981.
Rdavidr did it😂
WoW. Good for you man. Cool to see you on here. Flipping through drumeo , saw you. Was like WHAT!? Awesome man.
loved seeing David on here, mans a BEAST !!
Thank you drumeo for all you do.
Love your grooves man, nothing crazy, just straight rocking out and fun without going all over the place.Nice work!🤖⚡
Been waiting something like this for a while! Beautiful stuff from David!!!
I love this guy's videos... always something interesting
I have been subscribed to him for years. Love the channel
Great job with the ride beat in the outro (when the triplet keys ways playing) song. Hacks are awesome videos! So glad he made it here. Keep hackin away at the hacks!
Rdavidr definitely deserves more credit about his drumming! His playing and sound are really unique!
Awesome video. Thanks David and Drumeo.
i‘ve waited soooo long for a vid like this! thank you!
Really cool and informative lesson! Thanks guys!
Blew my mind with the stick bag clip. I stopped using that exact bag because my sticks either would get caught if they were a bit rough. Or just because the opening was small. Life changer....
Love his channel! He's the ultimate drum tech 🤘
I got a couple of Octobans minus a stand for cheap. Drilled new holes and replaced the Concert tom mounts with Tom ball mounts. So Now I can mount them off a double tom stand, have a crash out the top and can fully adjust angle and position.
Most DIY thing I've done to date
Mr "D"...te sigo desde hace un tiempo, gracias DRUMMEO, un abrazo desde Argentina!!!
Best video in Drumeo's collection!
People overlook how solid of a drummer David is....his content makes you overlook his drum skills but he’s really good.
Killer last track and great show, thanks.
Nice! I'll try each of them ! Thanks! As always good stuff
#7: if ur guitar player has an electric tuning peg winder, u can use that without modifying the drum key! awesome tips love the vid!
Yesss! So glad to see you getting the exposure you deserve David! Your Channel is my favourite for Drum Jiggery Pokery! Noice!
Great stuff. Thanks for sharing.
Another great example! I like how you play to a track and use you're Talent!👍
rdavidr, one of the few youtube drummers who uses unlathed cymbals. And they sound fantastic.
I see a lot of people in the comments talking about the simplicity of David's drumming here, but I've seen him tear it up a few times on his channel doing some rather impressive things. You should check out his channel
Awesome video. Thanks David.
LOVE DAVID! DIY KING!
These were some genuinely useful tips, cheers.
Finally! David on Drumeo, well, he's been on before but still
This kit sounds amazing
Tip three is so simple, but so dang smart
rdavidr very helpful and I thank you! Great drummer too...............
I like this guy's channel. He's entertaining and has great ideas
Love his channel perfect for the drum nerd
the ingenuity is very impressive!
Excellent playing too!
Fantastic content! Ending track was excellent too.
Loved the last song!! Great drummer and youtuber!
Never enough RdavidR. More pleaseeee!
Love rdavidr! ...This is the most (cough) I’ve seen from him in months. I could watch this guy mess around with drums everyday. Good vid.
David Raouf Drum playing and music he played is so cool!
Tasty... backbeat with the hihat foot. Nice touch.
That kick drum sounds so good 👌
Dude killer lesson and great playing! Its so good to see you on drumeo man. Iv been following you since the 20$ drumkit series 😂.
I was wondering: what cymbals where you playing? Im looking for a new sound and those sounded amazing. Especially the crashes
i loved the cymbals too, super dry. i usually find crashes obnoxious but these sound great. my bet is meinl byzance extra dries but i'm not a drummer
bonus add on tip to the cymbal sleeve hack, tilters are USUALLY 6 or 8mm, (8mm being newer and more common) so if you need to restore a whole tilter from the bottom up, stop into your local hardware store and pick up a few 5/16"x1.5" fender washers, that will replace the washer at the bottom, then the tube size you'll need is a 3/8" (10mm) OUTER diameter, with about a 5/16 (8mm) inner diameter, being that cymbal holes are again USUALLY 3/8". top that off with a couple of felts, and either an m8x1.25 or m6x1 wingnut, depending on your stand, and there ya go. what gibraltar wants 6 or 7 bucks for, you just made for around 2.
I’m a big fan of rdavidr vids. Watching him go to town on a cymbal with a homemade lathe is fun.
A favorite reuse of mine came when I realized that the little plastic tubes that are used as cores for (doggie or other pet) poop bag rolls work great as cymbal stand sleeves
rdavidr + Drumeo?!!! Now I can die!!! You’re amazing!!!!
Regards from Mexico
Real Genius!!!!
Incredible Guy! Thumbs up
What an intro... this got me dancing and pretty much forgot we had 25 lessons ahead of me.. wow. i wish to play this good in a few months .
