Still waiting for you to set up a monster kit with all of your gear and drums one day. I know you have too many drums but you could probably make Bozzio's kit look small.
Thanks for the videos. Really enjoying them. I'm beginning to get back into drums and constantly brainstorm about modding stuff, so this is a great channel for me.
My step dad and I figured out another way on how to put old cymbals to use by making them into rain chimes. by putting them on rods and and screws to tighten them up. You should try it. My mom and step dad also made one of my old snare drums into an overhead ceiling light. I do agree with you on that making old drum parts into new things is a good idea. It's recycling drum parts.
I remember when I made my own snare drum out of boredom. I found some plywood at home depot depot for cheap and built a drum out of that. I used a layering technique similar to some locks, where you cut each layer to the shape you want then attach them all together at the end. It didn't sound bad, it had a dry and airy sound so matter what I tried
Hey, me too! I have over 4 years clean and sober, after fracturing my spine when I was in middle school wrestling, and was put on a combo of fentanyl, dilaudid, xanax and klonopin, all combined, as a child! Spent over 20 years on that cocktail through "pain management", 24/7, until 2016 when I had 2 grand mal seizures and 3 cardiac arrests. lol. Drums saved my life! Well, helped to save my life, and gain my legs/coordination back. It's nice to have your free will back, huh?! ;) Happy drumming, bro!
Being good with your hands is one thing but having a creative and imaginative mind like you have is another. Made a clock out of an old crappy cymbal and my dog sitting on my lap behind the kit dropped his toy on the snare almost as if he said "here dude try that for them friken overtones " It worked
Super cool video David, loved every part of it, also really appreciate the time and attention to detail you put into every video, amazing. Definitely need to try the more bass attack and snare cable from old skins. 😁🤘🏻
I used the alu ring of a drum head to use it as a ring to get another drumhead on a djembe. (Same size) just use the ropes to thighten the drumhead on the djembe.
Been a long time subscriber and I’ve loved the channel since day one. For some reason your videos fall out of my feed so it’s usually a few months between me getting to your episodes. Now it’s been a few months and it’s just great seeing the new studio, production value has gone up more and you getting to do a collab with Drumeo! Love the progress!
First time I've seen you set up two rack and two floor toms. Would love to see some of your tracks and you play them. Still, most of your work is so original and fresh, it's amazing man. Keep it up!
Amazing! And that workshop! Nice! I joke that I am the least handy person on the planet lol So I really appreciate the skills you have (not just as a drummer...which you're awesome at!) to be able to create these projects! Love it
David .......you've heard of the Evans J1 right? The etched head for brushes. Maybe you can take a random orbital sander to a head and DIY etch a head for us....... see if it works and at what grit is best
It's funny he mentions that. I had a snare made from an old ludwig vistalite tom. The builder cut the shell in half. So the top half is the concert tom/ timbaly. Lol. The bottom half is a custom made black shell, black lugs, black hoops snare.
Dude your in the rva thats crazy!!! My kids and myself watch you. My kids took a set of drums they found on fb and did a bunch of your mods to their drums.
Honestly some cool stuff. I like the phat snare and patch for the kick. Also great beats man. Great sounding kit. Good style. Would mind using some of those beats. Cool stuff man.
That drum kit in the beginning is my dream kit because I went to Florida to meet my uncle who is a professional drummer and he was talking about Slingerland and old kits and I fell in love with the kit but I got no money
ive been a subscriber for a while.... seeing your channel grow, your professionalism and your grooves.... its been pretty amazing. Proud of ya, buddy! :^V
How would the sound be of a snare, tom, whatever... molded in a half moon 🌗like this, but only the bright side, (idk if you understood) but just cut the drum into that bright moon patern, and play that
Where can we find the 6 episodes of the drumeo series? Is it on their UA-cam channel or on their site? Or spread across your and their channel (because this one is here...)?
Tbh snare straps out of old heads are to this day the best solution for keeping your wires in place. I have used nylon straps, cords etc. but simple mylar straps out of old drumheads work best
This was honestly the first time I've ever seen an SM7b used on a snare. I guess it makes sense... ultra low signal. I can only guess that you didn't need a gain booster like a Cloudlifter for this experiment.
This is awesome! I would have never thought of doing these things with old heads. You are very creative and resourceful. Thanks for the ideas. But I wonder if it matters if the old heads have to be single ply or two ply? Or does it not matter? I've got a bass drum Mike hole c u t t e r. I'll remember to save it next time for my batter head. And maybe make some snare straps. Don't really need the O-rings because I use moongel. But anyway I really dig your grooves. Solid and in the pocket. Those Tom's sound awesome. Thank you so much for the inspiration David.
Dave does have some great ideas. One thing he did not mention was reusing old heads. Here's what I mean. A long time ago, my old drum instructor back in high school showed me how to circumcise a two ply head. I would then reuse the still intact head for a bottom side snare head. Not the greatest thing to do, but it kinda works when you only have 1 snare drum, and no money.

i did it :D

There is a Ludwig Keystone with your name on it also.
Try spray painting the underside of a head to change the tone

Even if he did, he wouldn't have enough mics to be able to get a good recording of it. Would still make a sick instagram post though😂
Would be like the guy in freaks n geeks
@@TheYeetusLord renting a pile of mics for the weekend could be an affordable solution!

Why do I suddenly have the urge to go dumpster diving behind my local music stores?
I wonder how many drumkeys he’s lost in his beard..
how many drumsets
@@jezusmylord LOOOOOOOOOOOL
26. Exactly 26.
He could start a whole other channel on beardcare and it would blow up
Is that where all my drum keys went?
When did David get pearl session studio selects?
it belongs to the drumeo studio
"Talk about a bass drum porthole" really got me laughing 🤣 dunno why tho LOL

4:59 THAT'S A LOT OF DAMAGE
Omg. I just went to the time stamp. It sounds the exact same. 😂😂
I used to be all messed up on drugs. Now I'm all messed up on drums.
Good problem to have

Just as costly of a lifestyle 😂
Damn, I did it in reverse, used to spend all my time on money on drums, now, well you get it... ☹️
if you apply yourself maybe you could be all messed up on both?
lol... shade on Jared ;P
lol, all just fun
Hey Lance, when are you going to make more vids on how to make iced coffee? Thanks

😉
Part of why I love your channel so much is you are a drummer and woodworker like myself. 🤘
Let’s go!!!!! Another rdavidr video 🍀
I’ve been watching ur UA-cam videos for awhile!! Enjoy everyone of them...... you have some great Ideas keep them coming!!🥁
WHOA 1:16 SOUNDED SO COOL WITH THE SPIN
That kit though 🔥
Your vids are really awesome and I learn so much from you. 🙂
I haven’t tuned in for a while and omg your drum recordings have gotten soo good
A friend of mine wanted to start making dream catchers with the metal rims off of old heads
enjoy your personality ,keep it up (i see your hacks are just what ive done long time ago but now its shared widely by u ...cool)
the Bill Nye of drums
DAVID THE DIY GUY!
you can also cut up thicker snare straps, fold them over the bottom of the bass drum hoop to pervent damage from your kick pedal
Love it!

First place well deserved man tons of respect!
Soo good, Ive done the last both ideas too ☺🥁 works great
I used the hack were you sand a coated head to use as a snare side head, And what did you know it works! Thanks!
When did you get the new kit? Excited to see avideo about it
when didnt I get a new kit haha
@@rdavidr hahaha that looks like a pearl session studio select kit, you're a tama guy right??
Man, you are one creative dude!
That's the first time that I ever saw a jingle ring. I was going to say that you should market it but looks like you can already buy them.
Wood working tools + Drums (the ones made of wood) = "I should cut my drums in half"

I got your psychic page.... I just picked up my iPad and thought I needed an rdavidr fix ...and there you are!
The bit with the bowls on the toms was so chaotic and beautiful, holy shit.
1:25 made me lol 😂 Great videos rdavidr
When did u get the pearl session studio select? (btw I love ur videos)
ACTUAL CONTENT IN THE TITLE BEGINS AT 5:50
I just cut some old heads into rings and put them on my black dot tom heads. Pretty cool sound.
Hey David, love your vids man, is there somewhere to hear more of the Beats/songs from your videos? Keep up the rad tips man 🤟 - from Melbourne, Aus

I have a 16" tom head under my water heater to keep it off the damp cement floor! :)
Cool! What’s the sizes of the rack Tom and the floor Tom ?
"Jared only got fourth" 🔥🤣
Soooo.... I just changed my drum heads a month ago so yeah good timing 👍
You're the best man !!!Cheers from Venezuela. 🤓👍🏻
Hey man i think you should try to make some mastersound hi hats by like hammering on the edges of the bottom hi hat.
I always cut out the old drum heads for dampeners
I have gotten better and work on cutting shapes out to make it look interesting.
Ok...
Now it's official...

@rdavidr any suggestions for DIY tambourine jingles? Any tips for cutting them out of broken cymbals or hand-hammered scrap sheet metal?
check out some of Gregg Keplinger's work, he does a lot of diy jingle type objects lol
Who ever thought of cutting up his drums? No one. Genius level here.
Can we hear that snare again? Cool idea.
Wow, your drumming got way better. You put in work. Dont mean that as a slight.
Any advice on the best way to clean mesh heads for Vdrums?

That's a beautiful drum set
Being chosen the best right next to Gavin, now that sets the bar to a standard.
After all these years i didn’t have found that track with the sax that David uses, i realy hope i’ll find it one day
Used to use a 6 or 8 inch head as a rolling tray.
do a tour of your shop. I need to redo mine.

What is more in time? RDavid's exaggerated voice inflections or his drum beat?
Have any micing hacks? You might know the Glyn Johns technique he used for the Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Who, and more

Paint and put under a potted plant to catch any water running out of the bottom of the pot.
you should try 3-d printing a snare
Dude, what kit are you sitting at in the beginning of the video?!?!?
Dude, I hope you haven't sold those Starclassics, because they sound as good as any kit you've featured since.

I played at a club called SINE a couple of years ago...you familiar with that place?
Can you make a video about your recording gear and mics?
Check his vids, I think he went over the gear when he moved & set up in his new place.
I'm curious as to why he took off the foam from his SM7B 🤔
I'm pretty sure the foam is to catch plosives from a vocalist like the harsh "p" and "b" sounds but since it's a drum theres no need for the foam.
