Heres a cool way to transform a Pearl style tom arm into an x-hat stand! This is one of many ideas I came up with while brainstorming for my "DIY Drum Experiments" series, which you can find on Drumeo. I noticed that a 3/4" dowel fit perfectly onto a hi-hat seat which gave me the idea to shove it into a tom arm. I thought it would have taken a lot more finagling to make it work, but it just slides right in!

I use 2 X hi hats, well one is an old Hi hat stand I coverted because it was from Groove Percussion. The other is from Meinl. But I loved the video and have to ask. May you please try and make a Remote Cable Hi Hat Stand?

When sanding and filing the hihat post after cutting it down to length, you should chuck it into the drill, to speed things up.

The cool thing with this hack on this set is that if you wanted, you could sink the down tube into the bass drum mount (they should both be 7/8"). Or onto a stand lower section that takes 7/8". So many choices! Nice work David. Tasty grooves too.

You need a forstner bit to make the larger hole on the bottom of the dowel. A regular drill bit may work, but it will never give you a nice flat surface for the nut to rest on like a forstner bit will.
Just thought I’d mention that, since it’s never explicitly stated in the video, and newbs probably have no idea what a forstner bit is.
