    I purchased a gh7 directly from Panasonic. Also got a 9mm 1.7, and the arri log. To my surprise, it’s arriving tomorrow and for some reason they’ve refunded and removed my arri log, with no mention of it. Just wanted to share :/

    Hey Nicholas, I just received my GH7 and noticed the same things as you. It does indeed feel a little less "quality" than the GH6. The numbers look sharper on my GH6 as well. And like you pointed out, the wheels at the top are no longer looking like brushed aluminum, more like plastic.
    I only tested the camera for a little bit, but also noticed some streaking with extreme contrast, just like on the GH6. It was not as bad as on the GH6 though and I was only able to capture it for a split second.
    One other thing that instantly bothered me was how slow the automatic exposure adjustment works on the GH7 in videos. I will have to test it on my GH6 again to confirm, but the GH7 felt a lot slower. Although the AF is drastically improved, I still noticed some hunting and out of focus moments in a regular vlogging scenario with changing lights.
    It feels to me like the GH7 has gone some steps forward and some steps backward. Hope they can fix some of the stuff I mentioned with firmware updates. I'm not too bothered by the build quality differences as it is almost negligible. But still, there is some funky stuff going on here that makes me feel less confident about Panasonic cameras.

      @@ValentinKossenko heyyyy! i love your videos! haha kinda surreal to meet you here. and yeah! the wheels whilst not brushed aluminium, i think they are still metal at least. but for sure they don't feel as good.
      the streaking i think this is the same as the g9ii, which is quite good imo already. i'm quite happy with it.
      i also don't enjoy how sluggish the gh7 is actually. i found it to be the same on the g9ii, and it was the damn auto face compensation exposure. it seems to have a very slow scene read before determining if it should brighten or darken the shot. if you turn the face exposure setting off. it's reasonable. I can't remember if the GH6 had this feature, but gosh, panasonic is a slightly different company imo now.
      i agree that it definitely feels like a 1 step forward, 2 steps sideways, and 1 step back lol. i feel like they are rushing out cameras.. g9ii also felt like a rushed camera, rehousing the s5ii. and the gh7, rehousing the g9ii. i think this camera needed a more powerful cpu.
      real time lut on this thing makes it impossibly slow to clear the buffer when shooting burst. hahahaha. so i also have to drop that feature from my use. it's like they put features in that can't be used. i found the gh6 to be a better implementation overall.
      but as with every camera, just use it to shoot real stuff, and i'll forget how much i dislike a few things, and enjoy the moments captured. 😅

    It is apparently about 20g lighter than the GH6, so seems like they might have changed some parts of the body.

      definitely can feel the knobs are cheaper. Because I distinctly remmeber feeling happy about the metal knobs on the GH6, and those on the GH7 just immediately felt different... not in a pleasing way haha.

      @@RhettThompsonFilm yeah i wish i had my gh6 to compare! hahaha i think im just over analytical when one things is off the mark, everything seems off.
      the worse is still the pixelated numbers and the slanted screen installation.

      @nickalot  29 днів тому

      @@RhettThompsonFilm yeah i had the g9ii as well and sold it to buy the gh7. its does feel more solid parts wise. but also not really cause i found the g9ii sd card cover to be super flimsy. kept accidentally opening it. hahaha
      like i love lumix cameras, but can't they just stick to a good standard of quality control and not have most of the camera well built, and then random touch points just be completely budget max.

  • @ghevan
    @ghevan Місяць тому +1

    Followed your video with a GH6 next to me. The dials are for sure diferent, but aside from the screen not straight, I could move and wiggle the parts the same as you showed on the GH7. I cannot confirm if the plastics are different, we would need both cameras :p. The pixelated numbers is a shame, GH6 are the same as the S9 you showed. About the screen I saw some videos show how to adjust GH5/6 tilt screen as it loosens over time, so I wonder if build quality has been always an issue.

    • @nickalot
      @nickalot  Місяць тому

      @@ghevan hanks for checking along side!! that really helps! haha, i actually check med the s9 screen, it doesn't wobble as much, but more importantly it actually resets back to "straight". where else the gh7 resets tilted up when the screen is facing out.
      i know these things are minor and i will overlook them over time, but it's these kinda things that take away a little bit of the joy of the experience of playing with these "toys" hahaha.
      i love the lumix philosophy of what goes where, but they could really look into better build quality man. I've held the s1h in the japan store and that thing feels goooooood. albeit too heavy for me. but built really well!

      yeah right? i feel like they are just 2 points away from making really amazing feeling cameras.
      - make the knobs less clanky clacky, denser material.
      - please, faster sd card reading speed. playback menu is atrociously slow.
      extra point missing from GH7; install the screens straight. 😅

    @overnightdelivery Місяць тому

    Thanks for honest opinions. Everyone just said exactly like GH6 but a little lighter. Sadly maybe lighter because of cheaper materials. Hopefully it's still durable and performs well. I'll have to see how it feels compared to my G9 when it shows up.

    • @nickalot
      @nickalot  Місяць тому +1

      I think past the initial let downs, the camera performs just fine. The biggest let down is the lack of AF in 4k120p when shooting in Variable Frame Rate. Unlike the G9ii, that allows you to shoot AF in S&Q, the GH7 doesn't have any AF in VFR. I don't know why, or what is the significant difference between the two since it's still essentially shooting at 4k120p, and then recording it in a 24fps container...
      other than that, it's really nice to use. also except for the slightly slanted screen which is a little annoying some times...

  • @BackusCreativeImaging
    @BackusCreativeImaging Місяць тому

    8:26 - That's crazy if they aren't anti-aliasing the numbers on the bottom. On my GH5 II the numbers are anti aliased and smooth. It was smooth on the GH6? While this isn't important, it's a sign that things might be going backwards! I'm interested in upgrading to the GH7 but don't like that!

    • @nickalot
      @nickalot  Місяць тому +1

      @@BackusCreativeImaging yeah i was super surprised too. and i don't understand why reviewers don't talk about these things. these thing matter when you're paying. and 3k SGD is no small change man... :/
      i like these cameras, but ever since the g9ii i feel like panasonic has changed their manufacturing tolerances and quality control. the gh6 was the last all round well built camera imo.
      re the pixelated numbers at the bottom, they almost look upscaled or line skipped. it's weeirrrdddd

    • @BackusCreativeImaging
      @BackusCreativeImaging Місяць тому

      @@nickalot Yeah the numbers at the bottom bother me. We know it's not important to normal operation but it's an obvious oversight, I don't like it. I own 3 GH5 II cameras. Build quality is like the GH5, very good. I was considering the GH7, but now I might wait awhile. The slight tilt to the screen on the GH7 also annoyed me. If the camera works well and doesn't give you any problems, then I think it's all well and good. Thanks for making this video!!

      @@BackusCreativeImaging yeah it annoys me too. hahaha
      unfortunately singapore doesn't have very good customer return policies, so i probably won't be able to exchange the product for a non tilted screen, but i will try. XD
      I'm sure Panasonic will fix the pixelated numbers, but yeah the oversight is mildly concerning haha. The camera performs fine though.
      But i'm curious why they have the AF work in S&Q up to 120p in the G9ii, but not with the GH7 in VFR. It quite puzzling that they have these two cameras with overlapping features, and exclusive features that don't make sense in their respective "category". I wish there was place we could talk to the LUMIX guys; and not require to be some famous influencer...

    I own the GH6 and just bought the GH7 (didn't receive yet).
    I think you are all just moaning for nothing. Pixelated numbers? Plastic shutter? Really? You own one of the best cameras on the market, with incredible capabilities and you complain about this?
    I guess it's just a way to catch attention from people, saying something negative about a product that everybody loves.

      honestly it's not that bad. I'm a little OCD when it comes to new purchases, and i take about 6 months to warm up to them haha. It's unfortunate for the GH7 that i owned the GH6 and used it very extensively to the point everything thing slightly changed feels odd, almost like when the dentist mucks around with your tooth. XD

      @@jonassubvert yeah i highly recommend going to a store!!! Anyway, i brought the GH7 to my dealer, and the other model they had there had the same slanted screen assembly.
      he said he will feedback to Panasonic, and if the next batch (in august) that comes in has a properly installed assembly, he'll let me do an exchange.
      then mind boggling thing is.. i thought they used the GH6 body. But it seems like they "streamlined" the cost to manufacture the GH7 based on the GH6 body design. I'm actually SUUUUPER disappointed.
      but it is what it is... i've bought the camera, and it still takes wonderful images.
      It's just not as premium as i believed, hoped, and expected it to be. I enjoy technology, and this doesn't hit the mark imo.
