I've been using the Leica 10-25mm and the 25-50mm f1.7 lenses with the LUMIX GH7 and I'm wondering if this might be the best lens combo for the GH7? Both lenses got a firmware update and are they even better on the GH7 than they were on the GH6?

Yep, 3.4 . Nice lens , have 10-25mm, one of the best for a promo work. But using more 12-35 mm, because of the size and stabilization.
People are just too obsesses with blurred backgrounds. 3.4 is nice.

@@darinl848I was gonna say… I don’t think this is true. Our fstop doesn’t quite change the same way crop factor does… it’s the same amount of light just a smaller surface area. At least according to the cinema lens manual I’ve been reading 🙃

Everyone says it the other way around: full frame allows for shallower depth of field, less depth of field, not more. More depth of field is what you get with mobile phones, where almost everything is in focus.

You are partially wrong. Yes, the 25-50 does not extend when zooming. It's all internal. However, the 10-25 DOES extend and trombone out. I own both of these lenses and they are spectacular.
Lumix really needs to put out some new primes. I don't get how they only have one f1.2 lens (the Leica noct 42.5 f1.2) while Olympus has 3 with their pro 1.2 series (17, 25, 45). They can keep making their GH series better and better, but we need new true premium primes. I'd love to see them break the f1.2 barrier and put out an f1.0 or f0.95!
You have several f/1.4 lenses, which are only 0.44 stops slower than an f/1.2.
M43 pro lenses are expensive if not overpriced. The lens gap between FF and M43 is only gonna get wider.
M43 is due for an autofocus 20mm(40mm FF) f/.95 lens. It would perfectly compliment the 42.5mm f/1.2 Nocticron for shallow DOF on MFT. It would be large, expensive and somewhat soft wide open but it'd be worth it.
But people don't understand the costs involved in making a large aperture m43 lens that's still acceptably sharp. Just because it's not FF, doesn't mean it should be cheaper to make.
Theoretically the MTF needs to be higher for MFT because the sensor pixel density is higher than FF.
f1.7 on M43 = 3.4 on Full Frame not 2.4! I have Sigma lenses at 1.4 on m43 = 2.8 on full frame.
I've been through a ton of MFT lenses (and those sigma art badboys) for my GH5, GH5ii, GH6 and soon to be GH7 and I bought the Leica 10-25 & 25-50 last year and they're my power couple for A/B talking heads. I also like the size, sadly for a lot of clients they see big, impressive, looking equipment and think "professional" ... sad but true! The size is fine for me, if I wanted a travel lens then you've got the 35-100mm and all sorts. These guys are beautiful and I'm happy to see some firmware updates!

@@kenslyder yes they are but I noticed a soft auto focus on taking pictures. Not all the time they are in focus but they are the best lenses

I feel like you get more value out of the 12-35/35-100mm f/2.8 combo. I currently shoot with the Leica 12-35mm f/2.8, the f/1.7 zooms are attractive however still can't get over the price tag. Great content.
I actually think they are decently priced considering how smooth the image and the in-out of focus transitions are. I have them both and they are my No.1 reason to stay in M43.
I agree. If you have actually used these lenses professionally, you know they are not overpriced. For my classical video shoots I need zoom lenses for some cams (for precise framing, I cannot put the cams anywhere I like), that are sharp corner to corner at any f stop. Comparable FF lenses are at least the same price, and then your depth of field is much worse at the same f stop, so higher iso, and more noise than m43.
I have the 10-25mm as my workhorse on my GH52 and she does right by me. I didn’t know there was a firmware update though

The 25-50mm is the best. Even compared to my expensive full frame lenses, colors, depth and microcontrast in highlight are among the best you can get. You must use the lens to understand. If you put it on the GH6, you get sensational image with rich colors and depth.
f3.4 depth of field, not "f2.4". The light gathering is still f1.7, but you multiply the DoF by 2. I have Olympus 17 f1.2 and 25 f1.2, those are DoF of f2.4

Can you make a video on Olympus lens autofocus on the gh7? Specifically the 40-150.
I have been using both for a long time and they are excellent. I also use the 200mm f2.8 (same filter thread). It is a killer lens too. I think the 25-50 is probably the best lenses Lumix has made. You don't mention close focus, but it is good on both lenses. The lack of good closes focus on my FF system, is a real plus for m43s.
When will we have a new M43 Speed Booster from Viltrox with autofocus, but a x0.50 Speed Booster?

yes it does.
I think those lenses are the best for serious video work and especially with the improved stabilization on the GH7 you don't need the additional lens stabilization.
For me it's different. I need a light travel setup and go with the Leica 12-60 and some primes for low light. (7.5mm, 9mm, 12mm).
For me, the 25-50 covers a range, I don't need often enough. I thought about using the 10-25 together with the 35-100/2.8 and the 7.5mm tho. This would be a definitely better setup but also a bit larger and also expensive.
Leica 12-60 is fine if you consider a f4 lens.
@@GrenlandUnderVann It's completely enough for travel, landscape, documentary and such during the day. I also have 2 stops more with the primes and this is extremely important in the evening and at night. I know that I'm missing the lens for portrait shots with shallow DOF and the long lenses for wildlife or sports but this isn't a problem for me.
For the price of these lens would like to think they will work well with the GH7. Almost cost as much as the camera itself. Personally think content creators have become too obsess with having a fast lens. 1.7 or lower is great for getting that blurry background but is it really needed? For selfies and close up sure its nice to have the blurry background but for anything else 2.8 and higher is more then enough. Shooting weddings i stick to 2.8 most guys i work with who do client work use 2.8 or higher. Most top photographers using big zoom lens start from 3.5 and upwards. The stander films f stop is 2.8. has it has the best depth of filed.
4:32 moire is really disturbing. Why lumix did't put antialiasing filter in this sensor? It reduces moire significantly and alters sharpness by not a large amount.
Anti aliasing is done digitally now. This increases resolution compared to a constant optical filter.

Depends on the circle of confusion and your field of view - f stops are calculated on the lenses internally a f1.7 is a f1.7 full stop - to get the same f stop on a full frame dependant on where you are to the subject with a ff or MFT you have to crank up your iso increasing noise -

When full frame start to have f2 f1.8 zoom lens, mft still has majority zoom lens at f5.6(the look), only two lens has f3.4 look. And I do not see any sign Panasonic will invest in m43 high quality fast zoom lens.
One generally chooses Micro 4/3 for size, weight, and cost considerations. Shallow depth of field is NOT always a desirable commodity. I use Micro 4/3 so I can get MORE depth of field for macro work, not less. There is a purpose for every format from m43 to medium format. Each has unique characteristics to exploit for different purposes.
They're older lenses but I've had no issues with my Lumix 12-35 and 35-100 f2.8s. Both have OIS and AF, but I believe they're better on the second gen models. Either way, half the price of these lenses for those who need similar coverage.

@@xenalien355 Go watch Sean Robinson on Lumix Live. He's done lots of detail videos on the GH7, G9 Mark II, and S5 Mark II and IIX. Things like base ISO are detailed in them. MOST reviewers on YT have mentioned the ISO 500 base. It's a huge improvement on the GH6.
you don't even need the 25-50, just get the 10-25 and 35-100 2.8 and just crop in from 25 to 35.

I own the GH5 and GH5s and I have the Lecia 10-25mm lens. Its good, but its not as good in my opinion as the Sigma 18-35mm lens with speedbooster.

I don’t care about a speed booster or adapting lenses… I believe Gerald Undone’s video was done several years ago on a non-PDAF camera. The test would have to be re-done on a GH7…

@@RealDaveTheFreak WTF?! Dude, it’s super-simple… it’s not a 1.5x crop factor. It’s a 2x crop factor. The 10-25 is a 20-50mm full-frame equivalent.
@@GrayGhostDog1 10-25mm with a 2x crop because of the physical sensor size equals a 20-50mm.
But when recording in 4K, you can either use the full sensor or a part of the sensor itself. If you always use the full sensor, sure, it maxes out at a 50mm full-frame equivalent.
However 4K only requires about 9MP, so you can only record with part of the 24MP+ sensor which is about a 1.5x crop (on top of the 2x because of the physical sensor size).
2x is the physical crop, while 1.5x is the crop on the sensor itself (digital) if recording in 4K (about a 1:1 pixel/sensor ratio). Of course it won't work with full open gate, but mastering in 4K, it's a good way to get some extra reach.
Hence:
Physical Sensor: 10-25mm -> 20-50mm FF.
Digital Crop: 20-50mm -> 40 - 75mm
But because of such large and heavy lenses, the philosophy of m4/3 about compactness and lightness is not lost? This setup is more than full frame
who says m43 is about small everything? the gh series never was small . i dont want a small camera and i buy all gh series cameras. its perfect like it is.
There is not possible to beat physics. These lenses are sharp, cheap MFT lenses are not so good.
get primes and you will be ok, you don't always need big boys.
I'm sure they are great lenses, but buying the GH7 and those lenses cost 3x GH7.

i am perfectly fine with my olympus 12-40 2.8 pro lense. in full frame terms its 5.6 booke wise and thats exactly what i want for all of my video work. fast appature is for photographers and youtube wannabes

Amazing lenses (I've use both) BUT those lenses are now in the range of some fine full frame lenses from Canon, Sony, Nikon etc. Why would they think people would choose M4/3 over full frame? All they have to do is drop those lenses $500 and this system wins in pretty much ever category. I use the G9 (basically a GH5) as b cam next to S5II and it's hard to see a difference, so the GH7 must look basically the same.
I would rather buy fixed focal length lenses if the zooms don't have image stabilization. They are cheaper. I have a 25mm 1.7, 42.5 mm 1.7 , 14mm 2.5, as well as the 9mm 1.7. You can damn near buy all of my lenses for the price of these zooms. And the 42.5 has image stabilization. No way.
Panasonic does not add lens stabilisation for focal ranges from 25 mm and below. As for the Leica 25-50 mm I think they just tried to get a similar design and functionality.
With these lenses Panasonic lost me. I like the small lenses and small body combo. The GH7 being bigger than my GH5 and a7s iii also doesn’t help
No way am I spending that much on those two lenses without image stabs.
There is no image stab in Panasonic lenses from 25 mm and below.

The video has nothing to do with image quality, nor is it a review of the lens. Go kick rocks if you’re bored. Additionally there are video examples of the lenses within the video.
Great lenses but way overpriced. You can get two FF f/2.8 zooms (e.g. Tamron 20-40 & 70-180) for the price of one of these.
Try them, colors and contrast are awesome, I prefer my 25-50mm over most of my full frame lenses.
