@@madfinntech Fair about personally not wanting to hire iPhone videographers, but quality wise they've gotten very good, very quickly. Check out the apple event that was shot on iPhone, that may switch your view a bit.
I still think Panasonic should go the Ricoh GR route and make the smallest micro 4/3 camera possible. Give us the option to switch the infrared filter on and off, and will be a best seller.
I really think Panasonic nailed it with the GH7 as they previously did with the GH4, GH5 and GH6. Adding the PDAF, internal ProRes and 32bit float to what the GH6 already offered in terms of features is a BIG WIN. Yes a FF sensor will always get more light and there's going to be always a limitation when compared side by side with a BMCC or FX3. However if Panasonic stops today adding features, focus on power consumption and at least doubles the recording time, they will have probably the best selling camera on the market for years to come.
... I think the power consumption comes down to the amount of features and data it's processing, I guess. I found that my A7SIII would go through a fresh battery while I was in the middle of setting it up! I think this GH7 is among the best hybrid cameras on the market, to date.
I'm a photographer who takes photos during walks, I don't do much video with it. The advantages of a slightly larger M4/3 camera is that the slightly larger lenses are better balanced, think of the 100-400 10-25 and even the kit lens 12-60, the camera is still small and the lenses even more so compared to the same setup in full frame. The GH7 seems to me to be a great camera for the landscape and nature photographer because of the tilting screen and the better EVF.
I do way more photography then video but even I'm tempted to go with the GH7 over the G9ii. I use the 10-25 and 50-200mm which are both some of the biggest m43 lenses, so it will probably makes the lenses feel lighter. Also nobody talks about the fact that the screen can flip up without sticking out the side. That is clearly a photography feature. Plus the peace of mind of having a fan, not ever worrying about overheating.
I'm into birding, I hv G9 and thinking of getting G9 mkii but now thinking Of GH7. How good is GH7 in wildlife photography, it's the same as G9 mkii or even better ?

The GH7 rocks! It excites me more than any other camera of the last couple of years. Formidable is the perfect description of the new camera. Cannot underestimate how valuable that stabe is, and the float audio is the icing on the cake. I want one.
It's too bad that the Arri log and that audio interface cost almost 1000 bucks on top of whatever that body costs. The value proposition really went downhill when I learned that those kick-ass features are separate purchases.
@@madfinntech But it does mean that we can buy them one at a time, spreading costs over time. It also means that the only people who need to spend money on the Arri Log are those who already use Arri cameras. For me, I will get the XLR unit but not the Arri Log. XLR units have always been an optional accessory for GH cameras, so that is nothing new. The XLR units have always added extra capabilities to the cameras, so that is not new either. It is no different to having to spend the several hundred dollars for a good shotgun mic. There are always extra costs with every video camera on the market. What I don't like is that the new XLR unit will not work on older GH cameras. I like the shotgun mic holder (as it frees the hot shoe for other things) on the new device so would like to use it on my GH5 II, but alas that is not to be.

Lenses size is a great advantage I got the s5 and still use my Gh5 just for the lenses.😊
To obtain a lower depth of field, you do not need the size of the matrix, but a long-focus light lens. I use gh6 in conjunction with voigtlande f0.95 60mm and 17.5mm. Excellent bokeh on both lenses, the depth of field at 60mm with the aperture open is such that one eye is in focus and the other is no longer there. So I recommend buying expensive lenses because it is the optics that draws the picture. The camera captures and saves this picture. Both gh6 and gh7 have all the functions that allow you to fully control the capture and saving of the image that the optics have drawn. Remember, optics come first, buying it, it will last you a lifetime, new cameras come out every 3-5 years, previous models are getting cheaper. Be wise.
Most used fstop in filmmaking is 2.8 on super35(apsc) sensors which is 4.0 on full frame and 2.0 on mft so i got everything i need. The body may be big for m43 but it’s the same as the GH6 so convenient that I could re-use my cage. Biggest selling point would be the audio for me too bad that the XLR2 is rather expensive. I’ll stick with m43 for 4reasons: compact lenses, affordable lenses, stabilisation and the audio options (on the GH6+XLR1).
Agreed, as a GH6 user this is going to be a PERFECT pairing for a new primary camera. I tried the G9II (same body as S5II) and dislike switching back and forth between different bodies while using my GH6 & the G9II.

I mean my 85mm f/1.2 DS is creamy dreamy but not always ideal for video use.
Its a good camera. But unfortunately Panasonic took too long to fix the AF and the trend in the market is FF. I can see them having trouble selling them despite the improvements. I also think the price needs to be reduced to the FX30 if they want to be competitive $1,600 rather than $2,200

@@joeXjoeX It's more about gathering more light at those focal lengths. To me f1.4-1.8 wide lenses are one of the only useful advantages of Full Frame IMO. Moving subjects in low light and still just enough DOF to be useful. For all focal lengths 25mm (50mm FF equivalent) and above I prefer MFT.

That'll be hard to find all that for under $4000. Internal ND/Full frame alone runs that price up no? I so badly wish the GH7 had internal ND though. It has 80% of those features you listed
Wait, what? The Arri log is a separate purchase? This is the first video to mention that. That information really lowered this camera's value proposition.
I have a G9 and an Oly EM5ii with many lenses... Just when I thought I wanted to go full frame, then came the G9ii, and now the GH7! I am confused as hell now!!! What should I do if I want to upgrade to a better body?
Thanks for the review. If you crave for Bokeh and want to test autofocus reliably get a Lumix 10-25 f1.7 lense. It's my best investment regarding gear.
CFx-B cards are not that expensive anymore, entry level CFx-B cards are cheaper than V90 rated SD cards of same capacity and are significantly faster. SD format really needs to go the way of Dodo urgently.
in this video "ua-cam.com/video/v0ajhi87Trc/v-deo.html" you use on a cannon fd 55mm on a sony camera, what adaptor or speed booster did you use/recommend?
I think MFT can do it all. I have big and small camera setups and can switch lenses between any of them. It is true that MFT needs smaller bodies though. They haven't made one in over 6 years.
the point is to enable the sensor to be able to keep up with the image processor to get all that codec options while still being compact and ergonomically shaped. if not for the internal fan this camera would shut it down itself after recording at least 30 min in 4k 60 fps
Yes. They should make more compact cameras. Not this model in particular but it would help the company. Unfortunately I don’t think they can afford the r & d for a separate line which is why this camera and the full frame share a lot in common. Just see what Fujifilm does as an example. The x100 series sells because of style not because it is as CAPABLE as other camera.
GH series has pretty much always been video focused. For a video camera with those capabilities, plus an internal fan, the GH7 IS a compact camera. Plus as others have noted the lenses are still compact.
Personally, I think they should release the GH7 X model with a new 10 megapixel sensor that can give a clean image up to 10,000 iso instead of 4000 iso which is the limit of acceptable image on this model. Also some add-on with ND filter that has an electrical ND that connects between the body and the optic. Speed boosters for Dof. Black body like the S5X but glowing red markings on the buttons. More lenses too.
I want everything to be in focus so I not a bokeh hunter person but I want a fun camera, Nikon Zf is that and they have a lens that M43 doesn't have it, 28-400mm f4-8, plus I not sure why but I noticed Panasonic M43 photo quality has a rough transition and surface way too contrast look from some youtuber's photos, and for me it make no sense to make your camera smaller when it's still not phone size small and the strangers still going to notice you are holding a camera just as a user you feel like you are less intrusive and the camera is closer to you and what make the differences is actually the weight, my favourite colour is yellow color and both of the brands has it, hence I will get the Zf and that lens plus 14-30mm f4 and maybe a Voigtländer too, just I hope they make a Yellow leather body soon!
10:37 The Sony’s picture output is TRANSFORMED from unusable handheld to Gimbal-Like with Active Stabilization, what Sony sometimes calls “BOSS” BalancedOpticalSteadyShot in some of their cameras. I think the InCamera 20% crop to achieve an electronic stabilization, WITH the SensorShift and or Lens Steady Shot create an incredible video platform for hand held full frame video footage. Do you guys remember the video from the RX1? We have come a long way in 12 years.
It isn't.... It's still really poor compared to the Lumix even with the Active mode... and that ignores the fact that the Lumix can also do a digital stabilisation to take it a step further
Sadly, this camera won't sell well because people will dismiss it for it's sensor size.......people are brainwashed by the FULL FRAME talk / look. If performance, size of lenses, and features are what you're looking for in a camera.....then the GH7 is unbeatable.

No, it probably won’t sell because of people like me who had the GH5 for years and waited for years for the GH6 to come out with proper autofocus. I had M4/3 lenses, GH5 batteries, the audio XLR adapter etc. I was all in on M4/3. Then the GH6 came out with the same poor autofocus and worse picture quality and a green saturation to the images and mixed media. Overall the GH6 was worse than the GH5 and the GH6 was bulkier with the fan. So I dumped lumix altogether. It would be very hard for me to go back to M4/3 and re-invest in all the lenses and accessories again. Just not worth it. THAT is why it won’t sell very well. I had nothing against M4/3 I liked that I could have small lenses in my bag and the build quality and IS were top notch but if your video isn’t in focus, nothing else matters, your dynamic range could be amazing, the colors could be perfect but if it’s out of focus, nothing else matters and I think a lot of people left the system and it would take a lot to re-invest in it again.
Absolut not! Most people see only their own perspective. And yes many people changed to full frame the last years. But most forget, that day bay day and every week or mounts, new video enthusiasts jump into the market. And they find the one fits all in one camera now. I think it will be the best selling since the original GH5 if not better. Never unsharp, never distorted audio, with prores raw. And you can decide if you need 16:9 or 9:16 just in post. And don’t forget the enormous magnet marketing hack to offer the ARRI S log. With lenses like Oly 1.2 apertures, the shallow field of depth will be closeup to ff lenses.
You said it all, when at the end of the video, you mention: "all good, all right, BUT WHO WILL BUY today, in 2024, an mft camera instead of a FF.? " In my opinion NO ONE! Even the weight!!! Gh7 is HEAVIER than s5iix !!!😮

This is the sensor that should been in the S9. Not a full frame. So I reallt hope they will make this into an S9-like camera, but with less limitations.
I would buy the GH7 but as a GH5 owner they released the GH5II and the GH6 without fixing the autofocus so I gave up and sold it all. It would be a huge investment to get back into the system again. Panasonic made this a failure on their own.
Did you just call me a lut
Can we get Braw instead of prores raw?? !!!
you should paint it pink! and film it that would make awesome content ;)
im quite intrigued by the Panasonic camera's. next month in Japan, I either buy a Panasonic or Sony own.
Great review.
Does it have a low pass filter?
Thanks!
It’s dead to me until they rediscover their compact roots.
looks great. i've also seen some video recently done on g9ii and that's pretty amazing too if you don't need the higher end video file formats.
Actually the focus is better than sony especially better than the fx30 and so is low light video gh7 still better video in low light
Gerald Undone will be so happy by watching this clip.
I keep forgetting that m43 is still not dead. 😁
Can anyone tell me why these video cameras do not have False Color?
1:56 That's what she said.
Remember the days of hacking the GH1 and GH2 .... those were the days!
Dream camera:
Internal prores raw 4k60 & 1080 240
With Sony level AI af
Dual card slot
Full frame
Internal ND
Small Body
Panasonic Stabilisation
Under 2500$
That'll be hard to find all that for under $4000. Internal ND/Full frame alone runs that price up no? I so badly wish the GH7 had internal ND though. It has 80% of those features you listed
For a wedding photographer who does 10% video and 90% photo, probably, a full frame is still a better choice
This aint a photo cam. It is for video
HAHAHAH that intro! Dont change for anything
I liked it to save it for when im at work and supposed to be working… lol
For people who don't care about prores raw this camera is essentially the same as the g9 ii
OM-1
Thanks for the review. If you crave for Bokeh and want to test autofocus reliably get a Lumix 10-25 f1.7 lense. It's my best investment regarding gear.
@17:33 Building right at the end looks like a Second World War Pillbox.
What jacket/overshirt is that Kai?
I’m not 100% sure but it looks like a jacket by a Japanese brand named South2 West8
South2 West8 Tenkara overshirt 😃
@@KaiManWong Appreciate it 🙏
Was going to ask that too. Decent photo jacket without looking too much like a sexual predator.
CFx-B cards are not that expensive anymore, entry level CFx-B cards are cheaper than V90 rated SD cards of same capacity and are significantly faster. SD format really needs to go the way of Dodo urgently.
The AF actually works now lol. Welcome to 2015 Panasonic! That stabe is pretty awesome though
"it's like fighter jet" hehe
Have you tried it in low light conditions?
Awesome review ❤ … Panasonic promoting a camera what has the world come to 😂 unthinkable in 2024 /s
Awesome thanks
I see a lot of low framerate or screen tearing in the video.
in this video "ua-cam.com/video/v0ajhi87Trc/v-deo.html" you use on a cannon fd 55mm on a sony camera, what adaptor or speed booster did you use/recommend?
If far too many folks keep focusing on Smaller or they are out, it will be. The MFTs crowd is literally killing off their own product.
I think MFT can do it all. I have big and small camera setups and can switch lenses between any of them. It is true that MFT needs smaller bodies though. They haven't made one in over 6 years.
Also. Strange doesn't automatically mean bad.
Did you miss the tally light?
I have a 4/3 sensor on my Mavic 3. It's a money maker.
Still not sure why they make huge m43 cameras... Isn't the point of 43 to be compact?
the point is to enable the sensor to be able to keep up with the image processor to get all that codec options while still being compact and ergonomically shaped. if not for the internal fan this camera would shut it down itself after recording at least 30 min in 4k 60 fps
The lenses are compact. Not the camera bro. Look at a 70-200 equiv size.
The point is being a FULLY CAPABLE MFT camera. Yes it can be smaller but could it be this capable?
Arri log is huge.
Use fast lenses and the need for FF is gone. The IBIS makes the case for MFT and always will. Full stop.
had gh4/5 now im on a7s3
Personally, I think they should release the GH7 X model with a new 10 megapixel sensor that can give a clean image up to 10,000 iso instead of 4000 iso which is the limit of acceptable image on this model. Also some add-on with ND filter that has an electrical ND that connects between the body and the optic. Speed boosters for Dof. Black body like the S5X but glowing red markings on the buttons. More lenses too.
Long reminds me of game command and conquer generals units voices on the team china hahaha. That accent..
Far too big. Make something G80 sized and stills centric please Panasonic.
Camera maybe nice, but the Lens is so soft an glowy realy not the best for the test.
Take my money!!!
It is dead for compact housing mft cams.
Where did you go for that walk? I'm guessing it's not far from London (where I live).
I prefer my gh6 ...better color more cinematic than 7.
Cannot afford it. Gh5 still.
nah i jizzed me pants too ...MFT not dead, speed booster. end of
Sadly, this camera won't sell well because people will dismiss it for it's sensor size.......people are brainwashed by the FULL FRAME talk / look. If performance, size of lenses, and features are what you're looking for in a camera.....then the GH7 is unbeatable.
Nah, I think the look of the image is far more important than trying to keep your camera bag below 5 pounds.
You are spot on, but I tend to not follow group think... once I heard the stats, this cam was an immediate pre-order!
In my opinion NO ONE!
Even the weight!!! Gh7 is HEAVIER than s5iix !!!😮
