I was just about to comment on this presentation as well. I'm glad read some of these before I started thinking I was original. I wonder if this guy has an afro....
i've been playing this game for a few years now, but there's still room for improvement. this is the best, most explanatory video i've seen! can't wait to try out this technique
I love this tutorial. I've been watching a couple of other SC players design various cities, and I have to say, I love the different ideas being implemented everywhere. Something I've been having trouble with when I've been playing SC4. As for the farmland issues you mentioned near the end, I live in a small urban corridor in the southeast, and, we've got loads of farmland out here around us. But, I must point out, that there are actually pockets of farms even within the suburban areas, but, typically these are like small family farms. So, I understand that SimCity doesn't include the smaller farms, but, still placing small plots of farmland in and around the suburban areas of a city is rather realistic. And I've gotta agree with Vyre12, you really are the Bob Ross of SimCity. :)
Hey FRIEND, just encase nobody else has pointed it out to you, YOU are the BOB ROSS of SC4!!!! (LOL) What a wonderful artist and communicator you truly are, it is so wonderful to know that Mr. Ross's spirit is alive and doing so very very well!!! I have watched some of your other videos and now I plan to watch as many as possible before I go to create my little works.
I really enjoyed this. Perhaps you could make another tutorial for more difficult terrain maps? For example In Japan, a vast majority of it's rural population has towns in valleys or just on the base of mountains with very little room to work with. It would be cool to see how you would approach terrain such as that.
I must admit. I hate making cities this way - stating from blank and building a plan - I like to play slow and tell a story as the city develops, changing and shifting as it goes.. However, watching you is exceedingly entertaining! As someone else said, the Bob Ross of Sim city! Great looking plot and great video
oh holy crap why have I been thinking so straight forward all the time when making cities?.. this was so awesome, gone try make a rural city now!! great video :D
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I'm completely new to Sim City 4 and really needed these videos to help me understand how to build a successful city....
Man, this game was my childhood! Your WAY better than I ever was, all I would do was build Nuclear power plants and think that would fix everything. XD And another thing, your the Bob Ross of SimCity. ;)
Wow. Whenever I play I immediately go into VOLUME VOLUME VOLUME mode and transform the entire area into a medium and high density zones (I let demand decide where/when/what I build, which actually ends up being pretty balanced and always interesting and I end up learning something nearly every time I play). I have done landscaping before in nicer neighborhoods (i.e. separating road/rail from zoned areas with a row of trees) but I have never done something nearly as extensive as that. It does look really nice. I'll have to designate some low res density cities within a region and try something like this. Thank You for shearing!
Looks very good, I like the way you created the neighborhoods. However I can tell from a mile away that's a USA town, built with the use of the car in mind.
It would take me hours to do this, going round bit by bit, doing each individual neighbourhood, or just do boring straight lines coming off an avenue. I would never think to do grids! Thanks!
Damn this tutoeial was very helpful, never could I work out how to do the rural tyle of town without somehow making it Urban in a way. Thanks for the tutorial Dwyrin :D
When I played SC4, I found it difficult to create a rural town, as opposed to a suburb or major city. When I played SimCity Classic, it was easy to create a rural town because I used the existing trees as barriers for everything. The trees told me where I could and could not zone or place roads. I kind of wished that SC4 had a singular restriction like this.
Hi!I was wondering how did you smooth out those turns.Im not talking about the NAM roads, I am talking about that thing you do when you press near the curve and it looks better. If you could answer I will be greatfull. Thanks and nice video!
Tom H I believe there are few services in this town. I did my best to put them along the main road though. As for water and power. Water i was using towers to preserve the rural feel. Power....I think i hid a coal somewhere >.> If you are using more mods though I would recommend solar planels. Looks better for this area.
No need industry if you have SPAM = Sim PEG Agricultural Mod it can maintain region until have enough jobs for skyscrapers rural things and everything else. You only put industry if your region stagnates. By this time you don't need Dirty Industry you can tax em to 20.0
you say that they weren't drunk when they layed the roads but have you ever driven in kentucky. Some of the back roads look very much like they were laid out and planned when someone had one too many. LOL
r2d2 beepboop can place schools wherever you want but i recommend modded schools for this set up as the area on the defaults arent suited for this kind of city.
Whenever I play with the tree mods, it is always showing the boxes that I cant delete. Can you shoe us or make a tutorial on how to get 1 of the tree mods and the extra choice road mod? I was whatching the tutorials on how to get them but it does not work. If you do so can you put a link in the description please?
Hey I want to be able to play simcity 4 and simcity 2013 without it lagging on me. Do you have any suggestions on what I can get to improve my pc? I am looking to get the cheapest hardware out there that will do the job well. Thanks
dwyrin btw this tutorial was insanely awesome. I felt like I was watching Bob Ross paint. There were times where I was like "awww he effed that up" and then it turned out to be something bad ass. I would love to integrate this into the Eaton terrain

TheRaydogginc It's not hard. Depending on if you have parts you can salvage out of whatever you're running now (case, monitor, mouse, keyboard) around 500 probably
Curt Pugh That should be part of the NAM. It's under the SAM (street addon mod) that came with it. You have to tab to the street but you should see the icon there.
Dude, you are the Bob Ross of Sim City!
I was just about to comment on this presentation as well. I'm glad read some of these before I started thinking I was original.

IM NOT THE ONLY PERSON WHO THINKS THAT
Was just thinking the same thing :) Happy little trees.
I was thinking the same thing too
Vyre12 you stole my quote lol it’s ok

Just now coming across your content, i love your soft style of narration, it is very good.

+Jeco Marbtos I guess I wasn't the first one who saw the connection
This was amazing.
You're the Bob Ross of City Planning.
Great tutorial, i like how you explain the thought process for building a realistic city.
So beautiful, man
Batt Ross with his happy little trees and happy little accidents. The voice is right on too.

"our city is burning down right now but thats perfectly okay"
Use of single tile houses has the advantage there will not be those big estates or privat homes as well it works with little patches for farms !

Great video dwyrin! I hope you plan on making more tutorial videos like this in the future. I'm subscribing either way!
Looks very good, I like the way you created the neighborhoods. However I can tell from a mile away that's a USA town, built with the use of the car in mind.
Omg this is gold do more of this tutorials please!!!

These tutorials are great thanks! You sound a bit like Wrel, another youtube gamer, at times. Really easy to listen to. Calming even XD
Beautiful! Thanks for the inspiration.
*LEGEND 27 IS BACK*
(i know it's dead meme, but why not?)
You sound like a chef building a city :P
+thetruereality lol never hear that one before!
+dwyrin please do a vid on how to build mass transit and how to plan and connect different mass transits with each other :)
It would take me hours to do this, going round bit by bit, doing each individual neighbourhood, or just do boring straight lines coming off an avenue. I would never think to do grids!
Thanks!

To be fair the center of town is most likely in some way urban
The Bob Ross of Sim City 4 :)
The thumbnail on this video is pretty funny, but the video is very nice.
youre the best man!
Magnificent!
Hey! It's the Bob Ross of SC4! :-)
what mod do you use for those pine trees. looks very cool
When I played SC4, I found it difficult to create a rural town, as opposed to a suburb or major city. When I played SimCity Classic, it was easy to create a rural town because I used the existing trees as barriers for everything. The trees told me where I could and could not zone or place roads. amazing dude, u're the boss
really cool actually

Was there water and power before you started I did not see that put in? Or services like fire and police.
Tom H I believe there are few services in this town. I did my best to put them along the main road though. As for water and power. Water i was using towers to preserve the rural feel. Tom H 1
Amazing 😁
Looks pretty awesome, how do you cover health, safety and education in these regions and stay on budget ?
Mr, which terrein mode do you use? Can you tell me please?
I definitely would have included farmland if making a rural area and also large residential lots...
No need industry if you have SPAM = Sim PEG Agricultural Mod it can maintain region until have enough jobs for skyscrapers rural things and everything else. You only put industry if your region stagnates. By this time you don't need Dirty Industry you can tax em to 20.0

Angelina Lane hmmm in that case, for more realistic results, knock back a few!
What mod is used for trees? The vanilla trees are terrible.
What are the tiles he used to do the farm "streets". I'm assuming it's from nam but can't find it in mine.
What mods are you using? And how do u make ur roads curvy like that?
having issues, i cant seem to make the road corners soft and i cant seem to even make diagonal streets
***** I didnt, i got it fixed though, i had to reinstall SC4 though cause i did the nodisk thing so it blocked the update
That's very artistic
Best game ever.
how do u get curved roads
the trees mod really sells it
where do you place the schools and what kind of shcool are using since schools have limited range???
r2d2 beepboop can place schools wherever you want but i recommend modded schools for this set up as the area on the defaults arent suited for this kind of city.
Can I install the mod on the origin version?
bro, how do you make the turns so smooth while clicking nothing?
Whenever I play with the tree mods, it is always showing the boxes that I cant delete. Can you shoe us or make a tutorial on how to get 1 of the tree mods and the extra choice road mod? I was whatching the tutorials on how to get them but it does not work. If you do so can you put a link in the description please?
Its because you're missing the dependencies for the trees. Thats why they show up as the brown box of doom.
How do you get the dependencies of the tree s and endable them?
By the way tanx for part of the info.
does the tree plug in work on mac?
I just use tons of farms and build villages where it feels natural
Hey I want to be able to play simcity 4 and simcity 2013 without it lagging on me. Do you have any suggestions on what I can get to improve my pc? I am looking to get the cheapest hardware out there that will do the job well. Thanks
TheRaydogginc Are you able or do you know a friend who is able to put together computers? It's pretty cheap these days as long as you can...
dwyrin I don't, but a buddy of mine may know how. How cheap is cheap?
dwyrin btw this tutorial was insanely awesome. I felt like I was watching Bob Ross paint. There were times where I was like "awww he effed that up" and then it turned out to be something bad ass. I would love to integrate this into the Eaton terrain

Ermmm , did you put dirt roads in the links
Curt Pugh That should be part of the NAM. It's under the SAM (street addon mod) that came with it. You have to tab to the street but you should see the icon there.
