Simcity 4 was an absolute era of my gaming life. I put so much time and effort into it. I recall even once spending hours in photoshop making my own greyscale map to import into the game to make my own island nation. The things that always frustrated me about SC4 were basically the things that Cities Skylines provided. While I feel alternatively, CS lacks some of the absolute struggle that SC4 provided. In SC4 you really had to work for a lot of stuff, and it wasn't easy to manage a lot of it.
When the "Old Dog" gives me more feels than the "New Kid on the Block"..love to see those little details in SimCity 4..this brings me back to my teen years playing it, fantastic! A few more episodes would not hurt..OK lets go!
I loved the challenging aspect behind the gameplay always encouraging expansion, densification, and diversification of industries, residential, and commercial areas, and associated services all whilst having to be cautious of your budget management. This game makes you work hard to earn that first skyscraper which only makes it that much more rewarding. CS2 and even CS1 don’t have this challenge to building a metropolis and CS2 even less so you can literally just paint an area and have 40, 50 story residential and office towers in minutes. It removes the “growth” aspect of building a city.
This is one of the aspects that I dislike the most about Cities Skylines (besides the fact that they leave everything to be solved by the mods community and how basic stuff like traffic works in the vanilla game)... The zoning density should be a limit, not an imposition (or at least we should be able to decide it). The only way we could have higher buildings in the beginning was if one of our neighboring cities had a huge remaining demand. Also, SimCity 4 was enjoyable from the very start until the very end of your gameplaying - something I missed in Cities XL and maybe even more in Cities Skylines.
Way to make me feel old... I played th first simcity, when I was like 12 or something? Simcity 4 was already an adult gaming experience for me. And I played a lot of that game.
I really really really really would have loved the region view solution for Cities Skylines 2. While I'm not sure what's feasible, it would have been a perfect solution to the issue with region sizes. Simcity (2013) tried to do the region view but for some reason added buffers between cities, which I thought was strange. What a weirdly terrible way to ruin what is honestly the most underrated solution to max city sizes and simulations.
I started playing city building games with SimCity 3000... After that: SimCity 4, SimCity 4 + Rush Hour, Cities XL, Cities XL Platinum, and then Cities Skylines. Until today, I miss a city building game with the immersive and enjoyable experience that through the whole time of gameplag that SimCity 4 had (with or without the Rush Hour expansion pack). Even though it used to crash a lot (and piss me off 😂), the only reason I don't play it anymore is because I couldn't manage to install it via the CDs I still have in my PC. It's not the most technically correct, it's not the most advanced, but it still has the best experience ever. Soundtrack, aesthetics, how we could watch our city evolving etc.. I hope some day they manage to create something like that again.
my first version was the SimCity Deluxe CD-ROM for Windwos 95 😊 What memories I get, that game made me start buying all the Sim City games that came out and start building city after city.
Most nostalgic thing about this video to me is the music. That old jazz was good. Also amazing to me that farms just look so much better... like seriously CS2 dropped the ball on them.
My first Sim City game was the one to the Super Nintendo back in 1991. I loved that game. Since then I have played Sim City 2000, 3000 and 4. Than Sim City lost its charm I think and Cities Skylines took over.
Its honestly refreshing seeing that the game doesnt bog down immediately if you dont have certain things, or get completely overrun by traffic to where the city becomes unplayable. Might have to give this game a proper try.
I have the same childhood for loving city builder than you... remembering when my grandfather buying me SC4 Deluxe at the local supermarket in 2005... great memories :)
This brings back memories. I used to spend a lot of time on Simtropolis looking at people's cities, as they created them neighbourhood by neighbourhood. This was before UA-cam existed. I even had my city in the discussion forum. I remember one region that someone built with many small towns and villages. That was amazing to see. I downloaded lots of mods, because I wanted everything to look even better. And the music brings back a lot of memories, too. I played SimCity 4 for countless hours. Loved the game, and I'd love to go back to it.
Man I loved this game as a kid, I loved it so much I collected basically every PC version of sim city and almost every sim game. Cities skylines is much easier to play but I still play sim city 4 at least once a year. Just to get that feeling
I remember getting the original for my birthday and all my friends laughed at those building animations. They are most definitely still cool over 20 years later, regardless.
I started playing city games with SimCity 3000. But SimCity 4 Deluxe is by far the best one I’ve played in terms of game mechanics! The opening makes me wanna cry from joy and excitement… so many years playing SimCity 4, only good memories!
My first city building was Sim City 3000 Special Edition🤗 I still love the music and the ambient sounds of them game, it was just so immersive. I really miss this from today’s games.
A series would be awesome! I used to love linking up many squares to make a huge metropolis.. add some traffic mods and other "Quality of Life" mods to bring it up to be a bit more modern!
This was so awesome to watch. I say fill out the little region and then go back to CS2. Might have more to do by then. Also... That zoning freedom would be nice in CS2...
I think, it´s in my DNA: EVERY City start´s with Canalisation. 6 Tiles from the Edges. Every 13th. a new Pipeline, squared over the whole Region. 😂 Then lean back for an hour or so, imagine wich Character every Segement could have. No cloning. I love this game😍
I started with Sim City 2000. I mainly loaded the prebuilt cities to send giant alien monsters to destroy them, but I mean... I was 8 years old so that was far more interesting than struggling to build and understand. LOL
My father introduced me to it when it launched. My father still plays it sometimes he has a very big city with a lod of mods. Everything looks so epic he would be great at having a youtube channel here but sadly he doesnt have time yet. Maybe when he goes into pension :D
I remember playing this game on my dads work laptop, I loved playing and it was really addictive. I just find the disappearing and appearing cars on the road annoying
No city builder to date compares to the charm and atmosphere of SC4. And I came into it as an adult. The music, the graphics, the shady business deals, constantly being shouted at by your advicers... 😂
I remember getting the first simcity and I loved it. Simcity 4 was absolutely the best. The "sequal" was absolutely garbage. I never even bothered to play it. I wish they would have just made simcity 4 again with some improvements and the ability to walk around your city.
The animations are so good hopefully cs2 gets some updates the buildings themselves look great aswel maybe some mod comes to bring them in high def for cs2
Did you ever play Transport Tycoon Deluxe? There's another game which has similar vibes - Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic. Would love to see a few Impuratur style Republics!
i remember when i first played this game back in 2010 i blew my budget on hospitals not knowing how to play the game. now i crash my pc with 1000 mods and millions of people in a region lmao still fun after 14 years
Now I need to reinstall it. Funnily I always found it more engaging then Cities Skylines because you could start with rail for example and GodMode was awesome for painting a chosen landscape. A shame SC5 didn't really pick up where SC4 left off and more resembled SimCity Creator on the Wii.
The US suburban culdesac mazes are economically speaking better due to less road to maintain and more space for buildings in places were there would have otherwise been road, but in terms of urban design and basically every other factor for a modern city it's just bad design because it creates traffic via focring all cars to use a few big roads, as well as making walking more difficult and lethal between different neighborhoods when the collector roads connecting the different maze networks or culdesacs being so big out of the necessity created by forcing all cars to use a few select roads
My journey started with SimCity 2000. I know, I’m an oldie. But man did I enjoy SimCity3000 and SimCity 4. So much good stuff. And then SimCity (2013) happened. So I guess we have to thank EA for ruining Maxis, which let to a gap in the market. And tadaaa, that gave us CitiesSkylines 😅
Simcity 4 original game basic Yes ! Vanila play without any cheats Yes Refined, No but that takes time and patinence ! Rural setup it´s Ok as its relatively flat forgiving mayor incosictencies ! Not bad for a quick let´s play !
Sim City 4 Deluxe was also my first City building game 😊
This game gives me so many loving memories ❤
Mine too:)
Daamn that intro unlocked some core memories
Nah fr
I’d be down for a series!
I spent so much time playing this game.
Me too!!
SimCity 4 will always hold a special place in my heart. Bless those who are still contributing to the modding and asset community to this day

Great video and a lovely town! 🙂
Thanks Biffa ☺️
Sim City 4 wasn't my first city building game, but it was one of my favorites. It has the best music of any that I have played!
The music is epic:)

You can zone anywhere. Roads do not break up zones in sim city. Loved that. Simtropolis. SimGoober man he did some awesom assets and Pegasus also.
Most nostalgic thing about this video to me is the music. That old jazz was good. Also amazing to me that farms just look so much better... like seriously CS2 dropped the ball on them.
Please!!! More Simcity 4!! I love this game
This was great! I'd love to see you fill out a region!
My first Sim City game was the one to the Super Nintendo back in 1991. I loved that game. Since then I have played Sim City 2000, 3000 and 4. Than Sim City lost its charm I think and Cities Skylines took over.
Being able to specify which road buildings spawned onto is sorely lacking these days.
I still want simcity5….
Yeah the one from the first trailer..
@@imperatur The trailer actually looks very much like the game. The city sizes is small in that trailer too.
Simcity 5 is a crap.
Try Citystate, I think you'll like it
Its honestly refreshing seeing that the game doesnt bog down immediately if you dont have certain things, or get completely overrun by traffic to where the city becomes unplayable. Might have to give this game a proper try.
I haven't played SC4 much, but damnd I always loved this artstyle. Your town looks great.
Bro, you actually did it. You built a modless realistic city in SC4, not even using god mode trees. Big respect for you!
Still play the sountrack, double album, that music was so head of its time!
The music in this game was always top notch. Still brings me back to childhood
I have the same childhood for loving city builder than you... remembering when my grandfather buying me SC4 Deluxe at the local supermarket in 2005... great memories :)
YES - I would love to see more Sim City 4 content!
Thanks for playing the SC4 intro clip - BIG nostalgia hit right there!
God this fucking game's music BANGED SO HARD.
This brings back memories. I used to spend a lot of time on Simtropolis looking at people's cities, as they created them neighbourhood by neighbourhood. This was before UA-cam existed. I started on Sim City 2000...way back in the day
This music brings back fond memories. Thank you.
This video made me feel a lot of good feelings. Thank you so much for playing SC4. I hope you find time to play it again ❤❤
Man I loved this game as a kid, I loved it so much I collected basically every PC version of sim city and almost every sim game. Cities skylines is much easier to play but I still play sim city 4 at least once a year. Just to get that feeling

Yes! Sim City 4 series is a great idea!
Обязательно продолжи эту серию по симсити 4
Пусть будет несколько городов в SimRegion
It was the computer game I played most when I was a kid. When I watched it now, I remembered the old days and I was very happy. Thank you
Still my favorite city builder. I have over 10 years in my custom sized region. It's awesome to see people play sc4 on UA-cam.
Such a memorable,I have play in map name Timbuktu, and my younger brother destroy my computer 😂😂😂
That nice ! Happy to rediscover the game ! I'm not against to see a small serie to see how you can manage the regional aspects of the game

I started playing city games with SimCity 3000. But SimCity 4 Deluxe is by far the best one I’ve played in terms of game mechanics! The opening makes me wanna cry from joy and excitement… so many years playing SimCity 4, only good memories!
This was a trip down nostalgia lane ^_^ I wouldn't mind another one
My first city building was Sim City 3000 Special Edition🤗 I still love the music and the ambient sounds of them game, it was just so immersive. I really miss this from today’s games.

I really liked this game. I bought it on Steam in the middle of 2013. Last played sometime in 2019. Thinking of playing it again.
Mein absolutes Lieblings-Kindheits-Spiel zusammen mit Rollercoaster Tycoon
This was so awesome to watch. I say fill out the little region and then go back to CS2. Might have more to do by then.
Also... That zoning freedom would be nice in CS2...
Looks perfect for a EF4 tornado to rip through 🥰
"We have a little saying in germany that everything was better in the old days" that sounds abit wrong.
Great video!
Simcity 3000 and the simcity on the gameboy were my first introduction but man this one has all the hours sank into it
Please do a series! I was so obsessed with this game as a kid
If you can make something this good without scratching the surface, what will you build in a deep dive? Already subscribed and awaiting the series :)
I think, it´s in my DNA: EVERY City start´s with Canalisation. 6 Tiles from the Edges. Every 13th. a new Pipeline, squared over the whole Region. 😂 Then lean back for an hour or so, imagine wich Character every Segement could have. No cloning. I love this game😍
what a nice looking town. i would live there proudly.
I can tell you that playmat was where it definitely started with me! 😂
That intro music, soo good!!
Im def down for a series of this... why not!
this gave me so many memories man. i want a full series now untill you co complete the map lol
I started with Sim City 2000. I mainly loaded the prebuilt cities to send giant alien monsters to destroy them, but I mean... I was 8 years old so that was far more interesting than struggling to build and understand. LOL
My God, twenty years old. how many hours I could spend with this game. one of the first loves for citybuilding
My father introduced me to it when it launched. My father still plays it sometimes he has a very big city with a lod of mods. Everything looks so epic he would be great at having a youtube channel here but sadly he doesnt have time yet. Maybe when he goes into pension :D
simcity 4 is great still hav it on dvd good video
I still like this more than CS1/2. Amazing how nobody has been able to outdo a 20 year old game
u can use Alt to change the zoning facing location, Ctrl to force a customize large size of zoned-area.
I remember playing this game on my dads work laptop, I loved playing and it was really addictive. I just find the disappearing and appearing cars on the road annoying
No city builder to date compares to the charm and atmosphere of SC4. And I came into it as an adult.

Damn, I forgot about those parks where you had to place trees by yourself...
The animations are so good hopefully cs2 gets some updates the buildings themselves look great aswel maybe some mod comes to bring them in high def for cs2
I still play this game on a regular basis, you should start a series with mods, the game just got its latest NAM update.
This is very good, can you make a playlist videos of SimCity 4 from population 0 to 1 million
Sim City 4 Deluxe is the best with mod
Did you ever play Transport Tycoon Deluxe? There's another game which has similar vibes - Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic. Would love to see a few Impuratur style Republics!
i remember when i first played this game back in 2010 i blew my budget on hospitals not knowing how to play the game. now i crash my pc with 1000 mods and millions of people in a region lmao still fun after 14 years

damn how good the zoning works
I've put abouit 100 hours into 'Cities' and i have to say, i still think SC4 is the best all around City Sim ever made honestly.
Absolute nostalgia 😍
You just need to make a realistic region series now
How do you get it to run reliably on a modern system? I got it through Steam and it just crashes constantly.
For me it never crashed
Also have it on steam..
Please make a series out of this
Those were times 😁
Blast from the past!

could you link the cc you used in this build? or will continue to use if it becomes a series?
"and you had no clue how f'd the world was" HAHAH! Yup
What a useful experience
Def suceeded! Love the tow n❤
поиграй в City Xl platinum😆
SC4 is amazing especially considering it's now more than 20 years old. In some ways, it's still better than C:S2.
I used to play this a lot
Good memories! O how I hope some studio/developers come with a surprise announcement to do to Paradox/CO what Maxis was done to
Fightthepower, weaknesspays, howdryiam 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Great times.
Simcity 4 original game basic Yes ! Vanila play without any cheats Yes Refined, No but that takes time and patinence ! Rural setup it´s Ok as its relatively flat forgiving mayor incosictencies ! Not bad for a quick let´s play !
“We have a saying in germany that things used to be better”. Hmmm. I dunno bout that one. Lol. 😂
Love this game to death
I know I have the game on disc yet but have no drive to play it! LOL
