    I think the songwriting on this is brilliant, partly because is does lend itself to different interpretations. To me, "they" means any outside forces that prevent you from being your best self, or that keep you from fully committing to relationships.

    Greetings from New Zealand.
    I watched your Dimash - battle of memories reaction and this was next.
    What a delight to stumble across a Kiwi song. The singer songwriter is Neil Finn. His older brother Tim was in a band called Split Enz. They were huge here back in the day and also did quite well overseas. You should also check them out.
    This song evokes memories of sunny summer afternoons for me.
    I love how deeply you analyze the meaning. Keep it up 😊

    Great reaction, Love the song, a bit of too many words in some passages though. another site songstoriesmatters says: “Don't Dream It's Over” is a song about remaining hopeful in the face of adversity. The song's message seems to be told from the perspective of a relationship, with the narrator urging his loved one to not give up. He tells her that no matter how the world tries to bring them down, 'we know they won't win
