Three sisters creating their own take of a classic rocker of a lullaby originally played by four grown veterans of the metal world. They came. They rocked. They conquered.
That cover in their basement got them so much attention. Metallica invited Alessia Cara to participate in the Blacklist 30th Anniversary album during COVID. The international management agency that represents both Alessia and The Warning asked Metallica if the two groups could be brought together for this project. The two groups wrote (Alessia in Canada, The Warning in Mexico), recorded, and produced an entirely new version of Sandman in only ten days that ended up being the lead track on Metallica’s anniversary album. I have to admit, I am not a Metallica fan, and I was sick of this song, until this new version came along. A lullaby where Alessia very sweetly puts you to bed, then Dany rouses the troops, shares a little prayer, the angel chorus comes to sing you to sleep, then Boom, the hammer drops. I think of this very much as the female version of the Sandman tale told as a haunting, dark lullaby. So good. Delicate, powerful, soothing, strong, gentle, fierce-all at the same time. I love this one. Do yourself a favor, watch the performance live at Pepsi Center where they add strings to their new version.
Yes 💯. I love The Warning, but credit where credit is due, Alessia Cara was asked first, she deserves to be recognized for that fact and the fact that she thought she could not do the song justice, but when it was suggested that she collaborate with The Warning she jumped at the opportunity. As well, she deserves to be recognized for her contribution to the making of this version. Also one other thing people get wrong, is that it is the first track on the album because of Alessia's name starting with A, and not because Metallica placed it there because it is the best, even if it is the best song on the album.
You touched on what I have always said, that they are incredible songwriters. It's hard to write a good song and hard to take an iconic song like this and reinvent it into another great version while still paying homage to Metallica in the end. They have been writing one good song after another for 10 years now and I have yet to hear a bad one. I mean, that just doesn't happen. Even all the great bands of all time had a few bad songs released with their albums. The Warning is a special talent that is just still getting started. Imagine what they can achieve if they continue to do this for decades to come without breaking up as a band.
Great Reaction, impressive comments about Dany playing lead melodies while singing at age 14 Ali at 9 killing it on the Bass and Pau at 12 wow pounding away on the Drums...then they re-wrote the music to Enter Sandman extraordinary amazing.
One ( just one of a multitude) things that is incredible IS the fact that that Dany has a real understanding of tone necessary for a song on the guitar. Coming from piano, where you have a limited set of tones you can use, makes her ability to get the RIGHT tone even more incredible.
There are now 4 distinct versions of this. The original cover, this video featuring Alisia Cara which I love, the Teatro Metropolitan live version which is slightly modified for that, then the Pepsi version with the additional strings.
Check out the Pepsi Centre version of Enter Sandman...another level up..They will have to hit the set scene intro to the super boss sooner or later ( for those that don't know , that's a gamer reference). To paraphrase the sex pistols, you want strings , you got it....
Sohum: "All I would need is some extra like cello, violins, strings ..." ... haha... You are a VERY LUCKY dude...! You just have to watch the Pepsi Center Live version of Enter Sandman... and enjoy a whole string orchestra...!
Who sings at the beginning in their studio version is Alessia Cara... in their live performances only they sing with Alessia's pre-recorded backing vocals behind.
They created and recorded the Blacklist version in just 10 days. Covers are rare these days. The only "current" ones are "Enter Sandman" and "You Oughta Know". A little further back they did "Atlas Rise" live at the Whisky. Even earlier they did a fantastic cover of "The Pretender" by the Foo Fighters.
Don't forget their cover of Sweet Child of Mine, I believe wearing the same outfits as in the Enter Sandman video when they were young. I assume they recorded both on the same day.
It's funny you mentioned cellos and violins. On their 2023 Pepsi Center concert they indeed used a concert string section to this song, and a few others, but that version is epic IMO. They also did a Foo Fighters, Pretender cover. Metalicas Atlas Rise, at the Whiskey a Go Go. Pau sings Radioheads Creep.
*Backstory:* Alessia Cara, Canadian pop singer (female projected on the wall), was asked to participate in the Metallica's Blacklist Album. Not The Warning. But a guy who works with Cara's camp also does things for The Warning. He suggested both collaborate on the song. Metallica wanted all artists to do what they wanted with with the song but *CANNOT CHANGE THE LYRICS.* After getting the approval from Metallica to do a collaboration. The Warning & Alessia Cara had 8 days to finish. Warning started their version in the lullaby where Metallica left the original. Then bring it around to the original riff. The twist was The Warning was playing the original riff throughout the song. Just at a slower tempo.
They were so young they did not know that what they want to do is extremely difficult. But actually being young helped them a lot. The brain at this age is still flexible enough to accommodate things like simultaneous singing and playing a different melody.
I fell in love with them when I first watched them doing TEDX (2017) Don't know anyone that has had the journey like they have. Just phenoms!! ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
the combination of their instrumental talents, gifted understanding of music, incredibly humble and sweet personas, and truly beautiful outward appearance, they've been dealt a royal flush in the rock and roll game. They are bound for the stars! To recommend another cover, their version of Alanis Morrisette "You Oughta Know" is beautifully executed by these three musical prodigies. They truly have no "bad" songs, even back to the days of the "Escape the Mind" EP
10 days. That's what they had to take the song, re-imagine and re-compose it, record it AND make the video - all this during COVID lockdown so they had limited mobility and staff, and had to work remotedly with Alessia Cara who was in Canada. And yet they came with this absolute, freaking MASTERPIECE.
Illuminating is exactly the word that applies for those who explore origins. You discover the true meaning of phenom the deeper you go. They all have the “gene” and Pau is the Beacon of it. Dany’s voice, Ale’s foundation, and Pau’s songwriting makes a combination is hard match up. ⚠️⚡️⚡️⚡️
A great way to get yourself into The Warning. Their growth, biologically & cerebrally, is mindboggling. This reimagination provides a glimpse of their virtuosity as musicians. Numerous bands, including famous ones like Motorhead, had covered Enter Sandman across decades. Out of the 50 odd groups invited by Metallica for Black List album about 20 (including Ghost) revisited this legendary song. None of them had the creativity to think outside the box & the conviction to go beyond the iconic structure of Enter Sandman. By slowing down to halftime, by inverting its structure, by introducing the 3 part refrain in middle with "Hush now baby" & by paying homage to Metallica with that iconic riff at the the end, The Warning finally completed what James Hetfield set out to compose decades ago - an eerie lullaby. This is Clapton showing his respects to Dylan with his reimagination of Knocking on Heaven's Door in Backless album.
They were DEDICATED EARLY!! Stuck with it, and had a great team of people around them. Have their 10,000 hours in! They are rare. The melodies, and songwriting are what separate them from everyone else 🤘⚡️🕊🤘
Their cover of The Foo Fighters, The Pretender (out of the basement) is great. Then there is their cover of Atlas Rise live at the Whiskey, performed after already playing a 2 hour set as a favor for the owner of the venue, then most recently is their cover of Alanis Morrisette's You Oughtta Know at sirriusXM which is incredible.
It was Alessia Cara who was invited by Metallica to pick a song from the Black album for the Blacklist charity album. She didn't know a single song from the Black album and wasn't sure what to do. Chris Smith of 21 Entertainment Group suggested she collaborate with The Warning. She agreed and Chris made the suggestion to Metallica who agreed to their collaboration. The Warning and Alessia Cara are signed with Chris Smith of 21 EG as their international booking agent. He signed The Warning in 2019 prior to them signing with Jason Flom at Lava Records in 2020. He even sat in on their contract negotiations with the Lava/Republic lawyers. There is a performance with a string orchestra from the 2023 Pepsi Center concert.
7 years is the time that The Warning require to complete a circle. 2008 - Luis bought Rock Band for his daughters; most probably for Pau's 6th birthday 2015 - Harmonix invited them to their HQ in Boston to show them the unreleased version of Rock Band 4 with a new song Free Falling by The Warning 2014 - their Enter Sandman went viral 2021 - they were invited by Metallica to reimagine ES for Black List album; do anything you want, just leave the lyrics intact
Great reaction! I bet you will enjoy anothe double, LIVE, the 2022 Teatro Metropolitan version, which is next level, and then from the Pepsi Center, where they are heading to perfection! ¡Viva The Warning!
Check out early versions of Muse "Hysteria", especially Ale playing an insanely complex bass line...and then doing vocals with it... at 10 years old...
The Warning are a gift! Greek goddesses sent from another plane of existence to entrance our souls. Hard work and talent have made them the best rock band on the planet. The future of rock and they are here now, we are witness to greatness !
Other gems from their past : XXI Century Blood, Wildfire, Copper Bullets, Survive, Black Holes, When I'm Alone, Unmendable... And that's only from their first LP released in 2017 when they were 17, 15 and 12 years old. They were great from the start 🤘⚡🔥
Other great versions to consider reacting to is the girls Metropolitan theatre version , or the Pepsi centre version with ADDED STRINGS . This version is sung and performed from a females perspective perhaps , with a touch of gothic .
They have rarely performed covers since they started recording their own music, but a few you should check out: Foo Fighters The Pretender - Out of the Basement (when they were kids), Metallica’s Atlas Rise live at the Whisky A-GoGo a few years ago, and most recently Alanis Morisette’s You Oughta Know (live studio session for Sirius XM). 😎👍
The 2 versions are 180 degrees apart. IMO The Warning bought and paid for this song and they own it! I love the original but their version is on a whole new level!🎸🤘
The original cover was performed in 2014 so Dany was 14, Pau 12 and Ale 9. The studio version that is on the Metallica Blacklist album was a collaboration with Alessia Cara, a Grammy winning Canadian pop singer/song writer. Alessia performed it live once with DPA a few years ago. You can listen to TW performing the new version live at the Pepsi Center concert and the Teatro Metropolitan concert.
We had the thought on their version but at the end, they saved the best for last, too clever. Loved your reaction! My favorite two acoustic versions are Crimson Queen and When I’m Alone (the one in Monterrey where she was seated and sang it alone)
Nice reaction. Fun to see them grow up from one video to the next. Their live performance of this song at the Pepsi Center 2023 throws in a special twist and it is fantastic !! 🤟🏼🎸🥁🎸🤟🏼
They have some pro-shot live recordings of their Blacklist Enter Sandman cover: one from the Teatro Metropolitain CDMX concert and one from the Pepsi Center CDMX concert and they are both different again than this OMV version. IMHO both are worth watching!!
The other singer is Alessia Cara from Canada. They did this during covid. Now you have to watch the pepsi center.. The girl's documentaries are awesome. Then Dany and Pau have side songs. The girls just did a cover of You Outta Know by Alanis Morissette
For the Metallica Blacklist album with 53 artist doing their own rendition of a song from the Black Album the question was asked to Alessia Cara if she wanted to contribute on the album and she is on the same agency as TW and the agency suggested to Alessia Cara a cooperation with TW. From Metallica’s point of view in an interview with Rolling Stone “We said, ‘Pick a song. Do what you want with it. If you want to play it backwards or turn it on its head, we respect and appreciate it.’ ” -Lars Ulrich
4:22 Not only the things you mention about singing and playing instruments, the fact that their native language is Spanish and they're singing in English ... There's a lot of brain power going on here !
Metallica told them not to just cover it but to create their own version. When they perform live they still play Alessia's voice track in the background. Did you know they did a colab with Band-Maid? "Show them" on the maids channel.

The Metallica Blacklist was a charity project to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Black Album. Metallica invited over 50 artists to pick a song from the album and re-do it however they wanted. This was during the pandemic lockdown, and Canadian singer Alessia Cara got an invite late in the process with little time to put anything together. Alessia and The Warning share a management group, and somebody suggested getting The Warning to collaborate. With just 10 days to meet the deadline they teamed up to remotely compose, record, and mix their version. My guess (though I have nothing to back this up) is that some artists who were invited either failed to respond or couldn't complete their contribution. That would explain why Alessia had so little time to work with, if Metallica asked additional artists as the deadline approached. The song was credited to Alessia Cara and The Warning. The Wikipedia page for The Metallica Blacklist suggests that The Warning was among those invited early, but that isn't the way it all happened. They were approached near the deadline, through Alessia Cara's team. At the time this all happened The Warning was still a mostly unknown band. They signed with Lava Records in 2020 but had only released two singles, Choke and Evolve. They had independently released an EP and two albums before that. But without the backing of a label those received limited airplay, as corporate radio avoids independents. The pandemic meant tours were cancelled due to travel and safety restrictions. The Warning had a growing online following, but little else yet.
Dany was born in January 2000. So if you know the year of the performance you know her age. Usually you can subtract 2 years from her age to get Pau's age. Then subtract 3 years from Pau's age to get Ale's. But from December to February that all goes out the door.

They don't do many covers anymore but they did just do You oughta Know by alanis Morriset. That was Canadian pop singer Alessia Carra projected singing on the wall.

Absolutely an underrated ability by Dany. She is a geek with guitar tones!
They do have a version with strings at the Pepsi Center CDMX

You REALLY REALLY REALLY should follow this up with Level III, Enter Sandman from the Pepsi Center CDMX concert. Really.
🤘😎⚡
There are now 4 distinct versions of this. The original cover, this video featuring Alisia Cara which I love, the Teatro Metropolitan live version which is slightly modified for that, then the Pepsi version with the additional strings.
Alessia Cara
Just wait until you hear it live!!!!!!!
Check out the Pepsi Centre version of Enter Sandman...another level up..They will have to hit the set scene intro to the super boss sooner or later ( for those that don't know , that's a gamer reference).
To paraphrase the sex pistols, you want strings , you got it....
Sohum: "All I would need is some extra like cello, violins, strings ..."
... haha... You are a VERY LUCKY dude...! You just have to watch the Pepsi Center Live version of Enter Sandman... and enjoy a whole string orchestra...!
They also covered Foo Fighters The Pretender (again when they were very young!) but they are really excellent at their original music!!
They've opened for several bands they covered in their youth: Foo Fighters, GnR, and Muse.
You would love the two TED TALKS that they did, 2016 and 2017.
They were so young they did not know that what they want to do is extremely difficult. But actually being young helped them a lot. The brain at this age is still flexible enough to accommodate things like simultaneous singing and playing a different melody.
I personally believe that 20 years from now this will be revered as one of the greatest covers ever.
This guy is parodying other reactors isn’t he???
10 days. That's what they had to take the song, re-imagine and re-compose it, record it AND make the video - all this during COVID lockdown so they had limited mobility and staff, and had to work remotedly with Alessia Cara who was in Canada.
And yet they came with this absolute, freaking MASTERPIECE.
Great reaction!
🤘⚡️⚡️⚡️🤘
They had 1 week to envision , construct and learn, and record the song. Young people pushed, created maybe the best cover ever. 🤘
Atlas Rise at the Whiskey A Go-Go.
Absolutely brilliant.. 🌎✌️
This is Clapton showing his respects to Dylan with his reimagination of Knocking on Heaven's Door in Backless album.
subs deserved.... i literally see the music flow into you! I like your way to react!
wow, thank you so kindly, have a great one
Excellent my friend... excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2008 - Luis bought Rock Band for his daughters; most probably for Pau's 6th birthday
2015 - Harmonix invited them to their HQ in Boston to show them the unreleased version of Rock Band 4 with a new song Free Falling by The Warning
2014 - their Enter Sandman went viral
2021 - they were invited by Metallica to reimagine ES for Black List album; do anything you want, just leave the lyrics intact
You Oughta Know covered at SiriusXM is also amazing. The Pepsi Center concert version of Enter Sandman has the strings you desire.
And its backed by an Orchestra!
"That's so smart"... That's The Warning! 🤘
Son diosas Mexicanas!
Not Greek.
If that was Ale singing then this video would have gone viral long ago lol…. But it’s Alesia Cara, huge name Canadian r&b vocalist
I love the original but their version is on a whole new level!🎸🤘
i love that they elevated it in such a clever way
The original cover was performed in 2014 so Dany was 14, Pau 12 and Ale 9.
Watch the Pepsi Center version and you'll get your wish
Oh buddy, you're in
for a seemingly endless source of musical bliss! 👊⚡️🤘
Can't wait!
The baddest gals in rock today 🔥🤘
Nice reaction. Fun to see them grow up from one video to the next. Their live performance of this song at the Pepsi Center 2023 throws in a special twist and it is fantastic !! 🤟🏼🎸🥁🎸🤟🏼
Haha as said in the comments, Pepsi Center CDMX has a string section, you will love it
They have some pro-shot live recordings of their Blacklist Enter Sandman cover: one from the Teatro Metropolitain CDMX concert and one from the Pepsi Center CDMX concert and they are both different again than this OMV version.
Great reaction, enjoyed your insight! If you want your wish about strings watch them do this cover at their Pepsi Center CDMX concert!!😊🎶⚡️
Rockstars from day one!
The 1st video was posted by Luis on July 7 2014. Dany was 14, Pau 12, Ale 9.
Metallica told them not to just cover it but to create their own version. When they perform live they still play Alessia's voice track in the background.
Did you know they did a colab with Band-Maid? "Show them" on the maids channel.
*Voice of Baceprot* (Indonesia female thrash metal trio) put out an Enter Sandman cover with a spin.
*Nemophila* (all Japanese female metalcore) put out lots of covers (Japanese & English bands) plus released 3 original LP albums of original material. With an EP of covers.
i see fellow TWA have been mentioning the Pepsi center version, no warning can prepare you.
Another band just starting out that some of us TWA have been supporting is Freeze The Fall.
Freeze The Fall are 17yo Quinn on guitar/vocals who taught herself guitar to a TW album when she was 11yo, 16yo Aria on bass/vocals and Jonah, 16yo on drums and with fans help they signed a distribution/promotion only deal with 604 Records. great band and great people.
be good to one another and ROCK ON !!
An awesome remake of an Iconic Song. You should check out their covers of Foo Fighters The Pretender and You Oughta Know by Alanis Morissette. Enjoy!
Great reaction .
. And yes . . Many say its better . . TW have made it their own .
. A full circle moment for them . . Take care till next time .
Bye from NZ👋🇳🇿👍🍻twa
I personally think that their version of this at El Teatro Mtropolitano is the best version.
Exactly my favorite version the Pepsi center has strings and to me that takes away from their performance strings don’t belong in rock songs.
They recently did a Alanis Morrisette cover that's amazing.
Great reaction to both I can’t say enough good things about this band
Love your reactions! They are very genuine.
thank you so much
⚡
truly electric
The most recent cover is Alanis’ You Oughtta Know and it is incredible! It is the Dany and Ale show!
Welcome to TW dude 🌎⚡.....🤟😎🖤⚡♨️🇲🇽
🤘
E P I C!!!!!! Check out their version from the Pepsi Center WITH STRINGS!!!!!!! It's mind blowing!
Now react to the live performance of the 2021 cover version, at the Pepsi Centre to see the final form of the song.
You have to listen to their performance of this from the 2023 pepsi centre.
Yeah please check out the recent live version at the Pepsi Center CDMX. It includes a string section. Of course, live is always better with them.
Dany was born in January 2000. So if you know the year of the performance you know her age. Usually you can subtract 2 years from her age to get Pau's age. Then subtract 3 years from Pau's age to get Ale's. But from December to February that all goes out the door.
Check out their live version of Enter Sandman at the Pepsi Centre in 2023 - with the addition of strings. Best version of their version of all!
Check out their Teatro Metropolitan and Pepsi Center live versions, such a great renditions of that song. What you asked at the end, adding strings, already done :) check the Pepsi Center live version. Other great covers by The Warning:
Atlas Rise at Wisky a GoGo
You Oughta Know at SiriusXM
The Pretender - outside the basement
Resistance - at their basement
Their instruction were change the song make it your own but keep the lyrics original. The turned it upside down, inside out backwards and sideways, and made it theirs.
They don't do many covers anymore but they did just do You oughta Know by alanis Morriset.
That was Canadian pop singer Alessia Carra projected singing on the wall.
You want strings? I think you have one more version to look at then 😂 Enter Sandman at Pepsi Center CDMX 2023. Personally, I think it's the best version of this song you will ever hear, period.
Additionally, the entire Pepsi Center concert is their best recorded performance to date. 🤘⚡️
Great reaction to THE WARNING!...my favorite 'rock' band right now 👍
Also, not to take away from THE WARNING but I know you like NEMOPHILA...check out their awesome covers!
