    Played around with this for half an hour and my observations are as follows:
    No slope required: I can zip around on the flat ground in the roundtable arena (tho only ~1-2m every time)
    Equipment load seems to make a difference, the heavier my character was equipped, the more likely the jump was to succeed
    The best frequency seems to be 2.5Hz, tho I haven't yet been able to figure out the correct ratio of direction-key to no-input yet
    I've tested this on Linux through VKD3D/Proton on a 5950X and RTX 3080, rock-solid 60fps at all times
    I'll do some more testing tomorrow, I'll try to make a tool which automates inputs at my desired frequency and see if I can get a consistent TAS version of the teleport.
    My current speculation for why this might be happening is an acceleration underflow. I believe when you press a movement key an acceleration value is added to your movement speed value until you have reached maximum movement speed. When you let go of your movement key an acceleration value is subtracted from your movement speed value until you have reached 0 movement speed. I believe this glitch is happening because the forward acceleration speed and the deceleration speed have a mismatch, so that at some point your movement speed, which may be stored in an unsigned integer goes below 0, meaning it wraps around to ~2^32-1 which seemingly causes you to teleport.
    Unfortunately cheat engine doesn't work on Linux and the tools that I do have are too bothersome to use, so I haven't been able to isolate the pointers to the acceleration values and the movement speed values, but those could give some insight

    This looks like the kind of thing that would get patched. Fromsoft very rarely patches skips used by the speed runner community but this one looks like it could effect regular play. This makes it a strong contender for something that would get patched rather quickly.

      i dunno there are millions of people with hundreds of hours in the game each and it doesn't seem to be an issue for 99.9999999% of them, i doubt they patch it

    I've had a very very similar thing happen super frequently when just walking forward while blocking with a greatshield. May be worth investigating. Every time it's been on uneven terrain.

    I literally just got through Farum Azula last night (haven't beaten Maliketh, waiting until I beat some other optional bosses first,) and when I saw that spot overlooking the ramp toward the boss fog my first thought was "I wonder how long until someone figures out a way to make that jump." Good to see the community is already on the case haha!

    my friend during a run died during the rennala fight and somehow wrong warped to the rampart tower grace in stormveil. leaving this comment here because he doesn't know how to replicate it and thought it'd be good to bring attention to glitch hunters

      Interesting. This can be tested with the final boss fight after he teles you to that weird ass area for the memes lmao. Though you’d have to use rykard grace and run all the way to radagon boss fight and die to Elden beast

      In my first playthrough I died to a mini boss and got teleported to the volcano manor site of grace near the two iron maidens, I didn't even visit the manor nor have I met rya. Got me access to the altus plateau without doing anything.

    Maybe this happens because you clip into the terrain. Perhaps it is a similar mechanism used by the walking mausoleums. I have been pushed outward while standing on those as It begins sitting down. This could be a case of the game giving you a large velocity to force you out of the ground/wall if you get clipped it

      @@FecalMatadortrue. This could even lead to players being able to clip through walls, and boss fog. In previous souls games we have seen if you enter a boss arena without using the fog gate the ai breaks. So this opens the door for cheesing a lot of bosses by just breaking through the door

      I think so too, tried In the roundtable hold, which is fairly flat, and only got it to work when near small ledges or carpeting, then again wasn't very far distance that I tp'd

    Looks like it could be a velocity underflow of some kind
    If so, pressing the direction key on the same frame as your velocity becomes 0 (or close to it) may be the key to it.

      Interesting idea. The block state may use a slower forward acceleration but a normal speed negative acceleration? If so, then thanks to the stutter step you could stack negative velocity until the player speed underflows. Or, the stutter step could just be trying to hit a frame window and it can be done in one or two steps.

    I'm not sure specifically how it works, but it looks directional. Like at least we know (?) that the direction you shuffle in while holding block is the direction you zip towards. Maybe it's like the Doom Eternal glitch where your character is trying to move/jump, but it can't so it's building up momentum and it gets released into one zip rather than a few steps.

    it kinda looks similar behaviour to when you try to scale cliffs with the horse, and it stacks up a tonne of fall damage the further you go/land, maybe it literally tries to make you fall through the floor but sends you horizontal/forward for some reason

    There is a pattern with the leg that is in front while guarding, before each tp. It's pretty obvious on clip 2 and 3, and noticeable on clip 4. You can see the foot getting way off the ground and the TP occurs when the foot lands. It seems related to the walk animation

    Based on the videos, the most likely explanation is the game trying to force you out of a 'clipped' state with massive velocity. Seems it happens on uneven terrain and likely in the exact direction you're facing, which would imply that something about your block-walk animation (and/or the hitboxes) is clipping slightly into the ground under you, and a failsafe launches you in an attempt to get you unstuck.
    If we're assuming that to be the case, that would rely on your FEET hitboxes and/or your player's position. It's possible that specific weapons have different animations for the block-walk, or that what boots you're wearing and whether you're light/medium/heavy load change those things, which would make that more or less likely for certain setups. However, it's also possible that your character's own customizations (physical build, etc) play a factor in this as well by slightly altering the stance/size of your feet, which could explain a lot of the inconsistency we're seeing among multiple accounts. That'd be my guess, but of course that's making a number of assumptions along the way.

      Historically, blocking animations are strictly upper-body only so if it's relating to the block animation, all weapons should be equal hypothetically

    This looks very similar to AC Odyssey rock launching. It's a glitch that's caused by the player clipping into uneven terrain resulting in the player being launched a distance relative to their fps if I recall correctly. It might be worth looking into.

    i wonder if weapons with bigger hitboxes when you block makes this easier to execute. like, maybe the block hitbox kind of rubberbands with the rapid go stop inputs and the engine just ends up slingshotting to catch up
    edit: wow did this the first 10 seconds going down an incline with the first sword in the video. maybe the hitboxes bouncing up and down makes you clip with terrain, and that just trips out the engine lol
    edit: man someone with autohotkey just needs to test this with different tap frequencies because i think theres a certain rate that has success. got like 5 mini jumps after the big first one, but thats gunna be enough testing for me haha. back to the gameeee :)
    edit: just tested with winged scythe and had big jump.
    edit: oh yea i did all my testing at the 4 belfries grace just fyi

      That's what I tought,maybe with a bigger chonkier armor it's easier

      I'm playing around with different BPM and a metronome lol but hard seems to work with some varying tap frequencies between like 170-215 bpm

      Dude! This is huge! Can you try to go to Siofra lake lower level and try to go up to the higher level by glitch jumping this way?? It could be possible to access Nokron and Mimic Tear with no bosses killed.

      @@johantitulaer1052 Well, you could just go to bell gargoyles and go to nokron, do the wrong warp (you can find tutorials how to do it for farum azula) and it will bring you directly to the mimic tear boss fight exit, you can enter and fight it if you want. You can do that with 0 bosses killed.

    What we know so far:
    Can do it with or without stats for weapon
    Block required (thus far)
    2 Handed block stance doesn't appear to have impact on ability to warp
    Questions:
    What is the equipload/gear/talismans on the characters?
    Maybe something to do with controller deadzone?
    Can it be aimed? (like in last clip)
    Slope required?
    Does it work with shields?
    Frequency of movement unknown.
    Does FPS have impact?
    If anyone has answers please let me know.

      so far don’t think fps has an impact that’s what i’ve been testing by manipulating the cap but the glitch has only happened to me twice and on diff frame caps so idk

      @@hbups I did it once by accident on controller during my playthrough. That's mostly just to say it's possible on controller, I'm sure it's easier on keyboard with the consistency of buttons instead of a joystick.

    The teleport starts before your character even moves.
    The terrain is at a very slight alleviation.
    What i think i happening: The terrain needs to be at a specific alleviation degree and your character needs to move into that alleviation at a specific tap frequency. This will trip out the engine and rubberband you forward because it detects you being "stuck". Similar to enemies getting stuck in terrain and getting reset or teleported to a nearby position. The bigger your hitbox the easier it is to trigger because there is more character to interact.

      I've done it on level ground as well as rocky, slope, stairs. Just doesnt launch very far. But I suspect it still has to do with terrain

    Guess the concept is as followes:
    when blocking, the mechanism reads the power of character in front of you to figure out how much in distance you will be bounce back. if there is no chara in the area the recoil will be zero, but if there is one in the searching area, even out of visual range, the balance of 'recoil' will push you forward.

    it's seems to be an IK solver Glitch , fromsoft uses it for foot placement to make the feet level up on the ground , i noticed during the walk both feet are slightly bent which forces the solver to search for a ground level.
    but may i suggest you try this on cliffs as on feet is on air and the other is pined on ground during that movment

    Maybe the velocity builds up as you try and gets released as soon as the glitch occurs? Maybe we should be trying to release the block every so often to see if we can limit the amount of velocity in some way.
    There are plenty of places where this could be extremely beneficial in a potential all bosses category; think skipping straight to levers in catacombs for example.
    If not patched, this has the potential to be as gamebreaking as superswim in LoZWW

    I've been trying to make this somewhat consistent and I have found the following. Had basically no luck with weapons that weren't the big swords (where you block by holding the sword upright and with the other hand on the blade to support it). Further, I made the assumption that it's a certain state of two animations blended together, and this seems partly true. The other half is the terrain, though I have no idea how it comes into play. I managed to get, with some consistency, mini zips.
    To make that work I used the analog stick on a controller tilted backwards, and tapped W to move forwards. If you tilt too much the character won't move at all, I kept the stick tilted just shy of that point. As for the rhythm, the character should basically do the full walk animation but with enough time between taps that they move their legs wide like in the block position. I also experimented with holding W a bit longer with a slower tempo vs. shorter presses but more frequent. Unsure if this made any difference.
    I'm fairly certain that whenever the characters right foot is moving forward from it's furthest back position in the walk cycle is the trigger. My guess is that some keyframe in the animation, when blended with the block stance animation, just sends you. However, this also requires there to be no terrain to catch you. With this method I fairly consistently got these mini zips as mentioned, and a couple of times teleported a fair distance, from between 5-20 meters to the lower right corner of the map. It's not really useful like this, but perhaps this will lead to consistent big zips.

    To understand this better, try to warp using consistent inputs, and see if you teleport according to your input instead of randomly pressing every direction. You could be setting a coordinate pointer at every key press.

    I find it easier to use a weapon that tilts your block at an angle. Make sure you have the 60fps goin' on. So when you initiate the stance, your character dips for a moment, goes back up, and just as they're slowly dipping back down, it's around those frames that you can do the glitch. Takes some practice and honestly a bit of luck, but it works wonders :)

    The first thing that comes to mind when I see this is the elevator glitch where if you step on the pressure plate of the elevator you call down on the first frame it is active, it shoots up incredibly fast. Maybe whatever causes that is what is causing this as well? Just a thought.

    With how far away this goes, and so much vertical movement without jumping, it makes me think it could move the player relative to some coordinates that are not the players coordinates at all.Something *like* moving around (0, 0, 0) of the current area but only being placed once block is released. Not exactly that though. An important thing to test would be if players mashing differently from the same starting place, end up close to each other.
    EIther way, I guess it's possible at this point to beat the game without fighting even a single enemy with functional AI, lol.

    This looks like what is called a zip in prince of Persia speedruns.
    It's essentially a series of inputs that overcrowd the memory and then get rewinded, resulting in ludicrous distances being covered at Mach speed

    Definitely looks like edge collision glitching. Basically the polygons where two differently aligned areas you can stand on (like uneven floor, stairs etc) must have a property when you move from one edge to another edge you gain tremendous speed.

Well I think that's basically what the game thinks you're in when blocking and tapping a direction key - it stores your position as let's say 0, but then sees you move to 1 however because you're blocking you might end up moving less than an unit that fromsoftware made, so the game can't decide whether you're on position 0 or 1 so it keeps adding speed so long that u get blasted into the air. I also think that slopes will have a big impact on this mechanic - I have found a few spots where during a horse ride I died falling from negligible heights only because in between the spots I jumped from and to there was a slope I hit, kinda surfing it. I think the most accessible one is right at the start of Limgrave near the water where a curved ruin sits on a beach. if you jump down from the ruin and hit the slope - you die.     This might be caused by crossing some sort of invisible boundary - from one piece of geometry to another, or since you were doing it near a bridge, somehow crossing into the bridge's area. Basically one thing to test might be specifically trying areas with different types of boundary (indoor to outdoor, one point of interest to open world, on a rock to on the ground, etc) to see if crossing over the boundary somehow messes up the coordinate or velocity values.
    Doing a little testing, the most consistent I could get it to happen was when the input sent me *towards* an area of slightly higher elevation. Going on even ground or going downward seemed to barely work if at all. super inconsistent tho

    From what I remember about the Soulsborne games from Zullie the Witch, when the player gets stuck in terrain after, say, a cut-out and Reload, they're given insane attack power to either push them out of the terrain or destroy destructible walls, even, so that maybe what's happening, but it's your feet.
    Secondly, it's not uncommon for games to sometimes struggle with calculating what the player's movement speed is, and over the years, there have been varying ways of doing just that. It may be that your shuffle is somehow confusing the game by either making your movement speed go negative, thus making it a massive positive number until the physics or things like a kill plane or an invisible wall can catch you, or just making your speed massive period. It might have something to do with the ocking animation inadvertently storing a value related to your speed.

    Something very much like this happened to me in Nokron while raising my torch. I made to walk around the edge of a tall building and got launched off the edge very forcefully.

    This reminds me a lot of a glitch I managed to perform in Bloodborne that teleported me when tricking my weapon and moving. I know some others from the PvP community of that game have seen it, but only 2-3 instances of it happening. I caused it during PvP and I remember seeing someone do it on thrir Hunter’s Dream. Visually it looks extremely similar, but I teleported a much smaller distance and so did that other person in the clip I saw.

    Couldnt this glitch be used in the crumbling faram azula 4 belfries warp to just skip to crumbling azula from there saving a ton of time or is that distance too far? I know you can actually see the full crumbling azula map from the chunk you warp to at 4 belfries

    i did this on accident on the second day the game was out! i was in the sellia crystal tunnel and ran into a corner as the pests were shooting their projectiles at me i was block while moving like that trying to block their damage and i got teleported the exact same way. I thought it had something to do with that corner but when i couldnt get it to happen again in that corner i gave up. Seeing this made me realize this is what really happened!

    I found another potential glitch, but unrelated to this. Thought I'd share it here in hopes you see it Dist. Basically, I managed to break the AI of Dragonlord Placidusax by unequipping one weapon (Moonveil Katana) and equipping another one (Night and Flame) after he did the Phase 2 dive, but right while he did the follow-up claw swipe (I stayed out of range). I don't know if this is common knowledge, and it only really helps in an All Remembrances run. I also didn't try to replicate it because I didn't have a save there, but maybe it's worth looking into for that kinda run.

    Did u try to do the skips over and over again at the exact same Spot the clips did it ? Maybe there is some kind of illusional wall shit which is just triggered by walking slowly and blocking? Just thoughts, imma test that later tho, thats some game breaking shit right here lol

    managed to do it once on a downward slope in limgrave using m+kb
    edit: it seems like the player gets reset every now and then when doing this, resulting in a small (almost unnoticable) jump, but sometimes the jump bugs out and you get launched forward
    if you equip an armor piece with a cape, you can tell from the physics of the cape when it happens

    It took me a while to reproduce but it seems like it has something to do with the character getting stuck?? Like I managed to do it on a tiny bit of rock and it teleported me forward like two/three metres.
    It has some very specific timing though.
    Maybe its re-calculating speed to be applied as its getting stuck over and over and then launching you forwards when it has no issue going? (And since the souls games have a different camera location to the player location, it could be that we are not even seeing it happen).

      Yup found a good spot to get stuck on a rock, the camera is still not tied to the physical location (my camera stayed in the air as the character dropped about 0.5m to the ground).
      I still assume its something bound to getting stuck (probably slope specific).

    Could it be caused that when you block that the slow walking animation is getting removed? If you tap (slow walk) and block at the same time you are faster without blocking.

    this seems like floating point error stuff tbh, something about division by small numbers getting out of hand, which might explain why tapping in a direction on keyboard is more consistent than on controller, since with analog controls you'd have a hard time instantly going from 0 to full speed or back. plus what other people have said about uneven terrain and getting clipped out of it. it could be that you have to accelerate into a slope instantly while the game tries to push you up or out of it

      Hold press duration can effect it, it's on /off but getting the on/off to be timed consistently in frames or miliseconds is a fine window still.

    i was in one of the early side dungeons when I did some blocking and janky motions, started to fall through the world, but i already had initiated a backstab. That backstab animation played through with both me and the mob about waist high in the ground, but once the backstab animation finished i was ported a few inches up onto solid ground again

    Maybe an accerlation based thing? The frames it's doing calculations on walking speed accerleration animation are chaining together until they overflow and the game dumps calculated accerleration into actual accerleration in order to restart the calculation.

    You know what this reminds me of? Reload Dashing, from New Vegas. Not in terms of its mechanics, but its movement. It just zoinks you in a direction at light speed, albeit this is like that on crack.

    initial guess has to do with something regarding how the game calculates movement based on velocities close to 0. Do we know blocking is required? maybe blocking just gives u the lowest possible acceleration and so tapping gives u the highes probability of getting a 0 velocity polling or something (aka tapping movement in a direction on the exact frame where your character is decelerating to a standstill?). Are there similar teleport glitches in other soulsborne games?

    Earlier today I was sitting here thinking about how Elden Ring speedruns will unfortunately always have lots of downtime due to the open world nature of the game. Never could I have predicted there would be a random glitch that could potentially skip most of the travel time that can be done seemingly from anywhere. Not only do I just want to know what the hell is causing it, I really hope it becomes a reliable tech so we can skip all the downtime.

    Do you know your framerate? It might be at a very specific framerate. Maybe lag is introduced and it overcompensates?

    So, from the first example, it doesn't look like a momentum thing. Based on the location where it occurs, maybe it has something to do with area boundaries? Where if you cross it in just the right way you get warped to the opposite side of a tile?

    My personal guess is that it has something to do with the way your position is calculated. Something kind of similar to players teleporting back up onto ledges after bringing put into various grab animations.

    This is not a joke and i regret not having the footage to show it, but me and my friends were messing around with this earlier and managed to clip past the thorns of the elden tree into the anvil zone, we had about 3 seconds of running around before we randomly died.

    Seems like a warp, that goes up infinite in the direction you look in 90 degree angle up, so this glitch might be good to use in areas that has a roof??,

    I feel this might be terrain based.
    The only thing I could think of that might help for testing is a since of timing/or rhythm while tapping. Like changing bpm speed.
    I might be totally wrong and it’s most probably random
