@@-_Nuke_- why tho? This is a bug that you have to INTENTIONALLY try to use, and it doesn't affect your gameplay. If someone want to skip something then just let them be. What you don't get here? Do anyone use this glitch to hurt you lol?
You can further increase performance by staying offline. Idk if it has to do with EAC or just the lack of loading messages, bloodstains, and ghosts, but I get a larger increase from going offline than I do minimizing all my graphic settings.
Actually the perfect time in this glitch is when Malenia goes mid-air for waterfowl dance you block and exactly when she start the attack you move forward and you teleport and evade the all attack it's incredible i feel like Minato Namikaze :D
This is an absurd glitch In about 170 hours of gameplay, I managed to accidentally zip exactly once. I was just fiddling around on that long elevator in the Haligtree (just before the room with Millicent) and zipped to off of the elevator. Fortunately I was quick with a quit-out.
I managed to clip a moment where I zipped backwards out of nowhere to the back of the boss room while fighting Malenia. It was immediately after my Flame of the Fell God exploded and I was convinced it was some weird knockback glitch
Hey everyone. Thanks for watching! I noticed a lot of people are still confused as to how this works. Understandably.. so I am working on a detailed addendum video that will also break down manual/human viable setups. It will be released as soon as possible!
This one is gonna be very detailed so it's gonna take a little while longer. Feel free to ask any questions here if you have them! Questions I will be featuring: “Why” does this glitch work? / Is there a technical explanation on why this works? “Can this be done on console?” / “Can it be done on a controller?” “Can you only Zip using Block + Walk?” “Why does this glitch allow for despawning bosses?” “Can I zip to any place?” “Will FromSoftware patch this?” “Where can I find the macro for this?”
Don't try this on console, I've learned how to do this glitch consistently and everytime I do the zip it teleports me like 5 feet forward and never any further.
All that I'm wondering is how the hell this glitch was found out in the first place. It's so arbitrary and deliberate. Must have been one hell of a coincidence.
I remember doing this on accident on stream with a shield. I posted it on tiktok later and people were saying I accidently did the zip glitch. I couldn't believe it. You're video explained how I did it and I might try it again. Also, this is a very well made video!
what's the current theory on why it happens? i think the values for the idle blocking animations are stored in memory in the same place as the values for the walking animation but with a different interpretation and by initiating a walking animation between the loops of the idel block animation the values aren't cleared properly and are assigned to the character movement, giving the character an incredible speed, by using for the speed value a value that was used for tracking the blocking animation
Nobody can say for sure why this works because we do not have access to the game's code. The testing group believes it has to do with passing on certain values to the next cycle of the block idle animation in a way that causes your velocity to be calculated wrong. Keep in mind this is just a theory based on what we observed and might not be correct.
My guess it has something to do with animation interpolation. Since it only works when animation loops or in other words when animation time is 0 its probabily a division by a value close to 0 and the closer you get to 0 the bigger the zip

I've had great success with the zip when limiting my FPS to 30. I've always been awful with timing, so "great success" is relative. Where I need 50-100 attempts at 60fps (buttery smooth frametimes) I only need between 1-20 attempts at 30 FPS. I think even older machines are able to hit 30 FPS, so if FPS limiters are allowed then this might be an option for people with lower power devices :)

@@Daravae Lol quite strange to dismiss someone telling you they can? The glitch itself likely has nothing to do with specific framerate/frame-times -its just a matter of consistent reproduction for the user. Given the instantaneous massive increase in velocity, its very likely some edge case arithmetic underflow/overflow relating to how state is passed around. Could even be some obscure race condition if it has to do with threads communicating between the physics system and animation system (could also explain why some hardware might be more difficult to reproduce since this is entirely in the hands of the OS and very performance dependent).

Should I be standing on more plane surface, and should there be zero obstacles (like rocks etc)??
How did you get that cool thing to pop up at the beginning ? ( the comments page that pops up reminding people to be humans! I like it. Very pro!). Is there any way to aims a zip? I have seen people use them in speed runs but I don’t see how to calibrate it in order to even attempt a speed run.
This sort of reminds me of how I was fighting Rahdan on horseback and depending on some directions I was riding sometimes I'd get a push instead of a pull from his gravity magic. Was anything ever found on that?
I just tried to do this on my Xbox series s and I got a few little baby zips but nothing game breaking. I was wondering if anyone knows if the weapon you're holding changes the distance you zip or nah. I was two handing the rivers of blood to get my baby zips.
So mouse and keyboard allows you to have alt as a key that walks your character in the direction they're facing. While W A S D jogs the character relative to the camera right? Controller only allows you to have movement on the stick, slow walk is executed by pushing the analog stick only slightly out of place while the jog is by pushing further, so how can I input walk and then input another movement to jog at the same time? Am I supposed to push the stick ever so slightly on beat 1 and then push it all the way on beat 5? I was able to get tiny few feet zips but it's hard to learn the actual input when I'm not sure what that exact input actually is on a controller. I do have a USB keyboard but can that be plugged into a ps5 in order to alt walk?
GTX 1660 SU, can get zips but they only move me forward around 3 tiles found below the gate in limgrave, is it very specific spots that launch you massive distances?
I dunno if their should be a category that allows the glitch literally no one can explain much about it. It seems so inconsistent that it almost sounds like it's an unintended problem occuring from a source outside of the game. Like tilting a Golden eye 64 cart to change it's loading. It could force people change hardware or change operating systems or something just to challenge a time. Most the time these categories that require things like that aren't allowed and the times will get pulled later.
The glitch itself is consistent and reproducable. We can explain a lot about how to perform it but knowing how it exactly works is something nobody truly knows without having access to the source code. But since its possible for most people, its better to both allow it and have a category for it since it allows people to experiment with an underdeveloped and undiscovered glitch and potentially learn more about it. Zips are also consistent enough to be done in its own isolated category which is the case right now. Only 1 out of 6 categories allows using Zips and that is Any% Unrestricted. Meaning people that dont like it or cant get it to work can run other categories without Zips.
I have a Ryzen 5600x and a rx 580 running on windows 11, I put my game on low, and the resolution at 1280x720. After 20 minutes of trying I manage to get 2 Zip's, I was looking down btw, but not sure if it is required.
Well, I tried for around more 30 minutos and I got more 2. But i noticed, that I only could do it close to the border of the map, and only when looking down, when I was close to more things (props, enemies, effects) I could do it actually, but it zipped very short distance, a roll distance away I would say. My main language is portuguese, so try to overlook my lack of good phrasing, I remember programming a game in 2d, using monogame, I had this prop that I could move using the arrows, but more fps it had, faster it moved, there is a way of calculating the time passed from the last processed frame to the next, so it would use the time instead of the number of frames, that make my prop aways move at the same speed no matter the frame, maybe there is something after the animation loop not using the time but all the frames, including not rendered frames. What I think is happening here is the fallowing, although the game is running at locked 60 fps, I think the engine is processing the other frames, most of the time it doesn't matter because is considering the time between frames, but maybe after you move while doing the defending animation there is some calculations that add to your coordinates to garantee that you are where you should be, and THAT is not bound to fps/time check, and it was make for normal move speed, where you get closer to the right spot, so it add so little (like 0.001) and didn't matter too much, but when walking it probably make calculations wrong adding way more then what it should (like 1) because it thinks you are at normal speed, and should be way further, and if your game could run at 1000fps, it will add Way more to that then it should until 60fps locked frame check that stops you. The question is, the time between frame 59 and 60 is 1.6666 ms, how many frames normally "ignored" are adding to your coordinates to adjust you coordinates before frame 60 stops adding and put you in the new coordinate? To test if that is true, someone should teste in different settings, if the zips farther in lower settings and shorter in high settings my theory somewhat is true. I cant test it my computer is to slow for that, at least my GPU is.
It's not patched, I just did it for the first time by watching this, but I've mostly gotten like, micro zips. I've gotten maybe 8-10 micro zips and one (1) long zip in probably 200+ tries now
It can be done on both console and PC. Although console should be even more difficult due to some systems having more unstable game performance such as the PS4.
Of all that developer beta testing that must have happened before release, one that is big yet simple as this happened to slip right under their noses... That's actually quite amazing...
Well i think a part of it is the community. Everybody who plays a game usually encounters some interesting things that most likely aren't exactly intended that way. Some people might just ignore it but especially people who speedrun games pay more attention and they share that stuff somewhere. So i am pretty sure most of that stuff is just accident but it needs just one person who then shares it somewhere.
Guess with this being exclusive to 60fps, we can get rid of the goofy in game timer that stops for loading screens due to "varying levels of hardware" now eh 😅😅
Does anybody know if it's possible to zip to the mountaintops of the giants from leyndell or anywhere else? I want to circumvent the Morgott fight so I can continue to summon at Leyndell for PvP.
@@Daravae thanks! I've looked into it and found that it's possible now I'm just trying to figure out if I can do it on PS5. It seems you can't lower the quality settings? It should be running at 60 consistently I would think but idk for sure.
Does this still work? I got 32gb, i9-9900k and 3070 so I think my frames would be good in order to perform this but everytime I’ve tried it doesn’t work
Looks like a classic race condition to me. The physics engine is probably storing some unnormalized speed and then normalizing it, but because of two different processes accessing the data at the same time, a race condition happens and it doesn't normalize the speed.
Can this be done on console? I'm on a ps4 and I can't seem to do it but I'm kinda confused on the idea anyway and I holding walk and block at the same time or tapping walk and block and holding block?
Yeah I can't seem to find a video on WHY it does this, just that it does. Seems like a strange leap from doing these motions to why it forces you to teleport in a direction.
Honestly at this point you could just allow the use of CE lol, instead of having to rely on a extremely incosistent and rng based glitched most likely tied to high end hardware. Every time I even managed to do this it was by accident and fucked up my gameplay so I hope they'll patch this out soon and we can be done with it forever. Adds literally nothing to the game, I found myself enjoying watching ~1 hour actual speedruns of the game, because they at least had interesting infos about item placements and shortcuts. Instead of just watching someone abuse a glitch and cheat theirway through walls for 1-2 minutes and get a title screen, boring as hell.
Patching wont do anything since downpatching is a thing. Also, there is no RNG involved. The glitch is consistent if you meet the requirements for it which is having a stable 60.0002327 FPS during the whole zip sequence and being able to press and release the movement keys on the right frame or frame windows.
@@Daravae But you just stated in the video that people that meet the requirements sometimes can't zip either and you don't know the reason for it besides the general system checkups, so it isn't consistent or guaranteed.
I did say that yes. If you meet the listed requirements, you can zip 'consistently'. If you can't zip at all while still meeting the listed requirements, then there is another problem. The reason for not knowing why it doesn't work doesn't change anything from the fact that if you do meet the requirements and it works, you can zip consistently. Not really sure what you don't understand about that.
So, its like a super power bestowed opon us by an understandable eldritch god, so anigmatic infact that even the power itself can not be fully understood

This sort of reminds me of how I was fighting Rahdan on horseback and depending on some directions I was riding sometimes I'd get a push instead of a pull from his gravity magic. Was anything ever found on that?
No clue but not really sure if it sounds related to zips.
PS5 running PS4 digital copy of Elden Ring stored in the SSD
If the computation is the key thing, the reason could be that there is less stuff on the view to compute if you look down.
I was trying to do this so I could get +25 on my greatsword by zipping to the mountain of the giants, but I don’t think it’s possible on console
I think it is but it needs to be very very very frame perfect
Can we zip anywhere on the map? or only for specific locations?
You can zip anywhere that is loaded on the overworld. Farum Azula and the Roundhold Table aren't loaded in so I guess they are exceptions.
I hold alt and right click and keep tapping 60fps but i dont zip anywhere is this patched?
It's not patched, I just did it for the first time by watching this, but I've mostly gotten like, micro zips. I've gotten maybe 8-10 micro zips and one (1) long zip in probably 200+ tries now
Thanks for the good explanation :D
Do you know if there is a dc server for the elden ring speedrunning community?
Definitely. Was also mentioned at the end of the video but its discord.gg/SpeedSouls
great vid very informative
Is this able to be done on console or is this only a pc thing?
Following for answer
It can be done on both console and PC. Although console should be even more difficult due to some systems having more unstable game performance such as the PS4.
@@Daravae Thats good to know. I play on ps5 and will try it playing with optimized frame rate and see what happens. Thx for the reply!
Of all that developer beta testing that must have happened before release, one that is big yet simple as this happened to slip right under their noses... That's actually quite amazing...
Is it available on console too or just in PC?
I really wish there is a technical explanation of how this can happen.
We need a machine code god for this. Like mario 64 speedrunners level of godness
It is possible to do it in ps4 or is like something that only works on pc?
How do people even discover these glithces is beyond me.
they don't go outside
Well i think a part of it is the community. Everybody who plays a game usually encounters some interesting things that most likely aren't exactly intended that way. Some people might just ignore it but especially people who speedrun games pay more attention and they share that stuff somewhere.
So i am pretty sure most of that stuff is just accident but it needs just one person who then shares it somewhere.
@@markcaruso9040 Imagine putting others down because they’re better than you at something
@@MrTacoMan123 i'm not putting them down and they are better than me at it i just go outside
@@markcaruso9040 okay then go outside instead of crying about it? Lmao
Why does it say while slow walking? How do you press a movment key while slow walking?
To be clear: You press a movement key while holding the Slow Walk button.
Guess with this being exclusive to 60fps, we can get rid of the goofy in game timer that stops for loading screens due to "varying levels of hardware" now eh 😅😅
No?
Works with Console? Or just PC?
Console works.
Hey just out of curiosity would zipping become easier if you use cheat engine to get more than 60 fps?
I haven't tried this but feel free to try this out and let us know.
Do zips work on console like Xbox or is it patched
How do you survive the fall?
Watch the follow-up video I made. Its explained in the FAQ in the end.
A glitch harder to do than beating the game blindfolded.
Zips hmm... ya i cant even parry right😂😂
What happens if you block and move at the same time? Would it work or no.
Bruh he said it has to be frame perfect. Do you think if it was as easy as that he wouldn't have discovered it?,
@@georgethommen5434 Yes, but he also said that it's inconsistent.
@@ArjunTheRageGuy it incosistent with perfect timing
Is this works in any game or just some specific games like elder ring?
Works in a few games. Prince of Persia Zip Glitch is one of the more famous ones.
This randomly happened to me today. Didn't know it was a thing XD
As a programmer, I have no idea how this glitch is even possible, technically speaking.
Neither do we. Maybe an underflow thing. Maybe we'll find out some day whenever we can see the game code.
Does anybody know if it's possible to zip to the mountaintops of the giants from leyndell or anywhere else? I want to circumvent the Morgott fight so I can continue to summon at Leyndell for PvP.
Probably with a Mega Zip from Leyndell, or even from Altus or somewhere along those lines.
@@Daravae thanks! I've looked into it and found that it's possible now I'm just trying to figure out if I can do it on PS5. It seems you can't lower the quality settings? It should be running at 60 consistently I would think but idk for sure.
Gonna have to try this out.
Does this still work? I got 32gb, i9-9900k and 3070 so I think my frames would be good in order to perform this but everytime I’ve tried it doesn’t work
Yep.
Look at my "How to Zip" video to discover some useful tools that will help you to Zip.
Console works.
@@Daravae No it doesn't. If you claim it does, prove it. It warps you 5 meters or so. This glitch does NOT work on console whatsoever.
Do we know why it works ? What causes the bug ?
Yeah I can't seem to find a video on WHY it does this, just that it does. Seems like a strange leap from doing these motions to why it forces you to teleport in a direction.
What does it mean after a window of 129-135 frames , what frames??
I just scared the shit out of myself by doing this by mistake.
What is micro zip? What does it look like?
A Zip but only teleports you a few feet.
Does it work on current patch?
And consoles ? Does it work on PS5 ?
anywhere to get macro for this?
great video! what causes zips though, like why do they exist?
Does it work for ps5?
Technically yes, but it's probably too difficult to perform on controller. Also zips have been fixed since DLC release (v1.12)
you are a hero!
is it 60+ fps or should I cap it at 60
Ah, it appears I am too unemployed to execute this one. Oh well, lol.
Nah, the reason people can't zip is because every copy of Elden Ring is personalized
Has anyone ever managed to get a zip in old-gen consoles?
Yes
Since this requires 60 fps, I'm assuming it can't be done on PS4?
probably not
Does anyone know if this works on consoles too or only PC?
I wanna do this for the sole purpose of skipping to NG+ because starting new builds for PVE is getting too easy.
Not sure if it works for Ps5.
No, its possible.
Does this glitch work on consoles ?
Can you do this on Xbox series s?
Not really sure what you don't understand about that.
can you do this on PS5?
Yep.
TAS aiming to beat Elden Ring in under 10 minutes, yet only 10 days later wr is under 7 minutes
The TAS is already 5 minutes (see my channel) and can go down to probably sub 4 minutes at this point.
Does this work on console?
So, its like a super power bestowed opon us by an understandable eldritch god, so anigmatic infact that even the power itself can not be fully understood
Interesting question is why these don't work in the dark souls
Possibly has to do with the engine used.
The horse glitch been patched
Which one
Does anybody know if this is possible on ps5? I'm researching but I can't seem to find an answer to this
Check my new video on Zips. The answer is in there.
Now really who in the hll found out how to do this?
