Hi Roger, here at the Eastern Cape South Africa, we call that a Skaameye shark, which in English it would be a shyeye shark because it covers its eyes with its tail as though it is shy. Skamm is the afrikaans word for shy. Thank you so much for your fishing videos, really enjoy watching them
It doesn't matter what part of the Australian coastline you are on, it's always an awesome place. We live in the greatest country on the planet.
Broadnose seven gill shark.. bit high in mercury but not bad to eat
Roger. The shark looked very similar to Dogfish in the UK, fold the tail against the body and it can be held one handed and easily unhooked.
I believe what you call dog fish in the UK we call gummy shark here. That little guy looked like a baby leopard shark and they grow to about the same size as gummies.
Hi. Gummy shark/Smoothhound same fish, Dogfish usually unwanted bycatch and looked very similar to Rogers fish. Uk Dogfish also have the same rough skin as Rogers fish hence fold the tail against the body when unhooking.
@@rdesign2753do you guys eat gummies? Down in Victoria Australia it’s the main fish you would have at fish n chip shops “flake”
@@dragginmedown, I’m in Victoria👍. In the fish and chip shop it’s called rock. Most UK anglers sport fish/catch and return. The Cat shark in UK is called a dogfish🙃
@@rdesign2753 they don’t take fish home to eat?
It's a leopard shark just a little fela.very cool though. As usual love the fishing.
Another wonderful instructional video, t😢his is why I am sure so many like me appreciate your videos Roger. It can be quite frustrating when watching the “experts” on television fishing locations so out of reach both geographically and financially and all you do is watch them catch fish without any instruction regarding rigging or other important information. I am not sure of the shark species outside of where I fish in Victoria but it looked like a small “leopard or collar carpet” shark. Thanks again for sharing Roger.
Thanks Roger, another great video, thank you to the camera woman who captures your adventures. I need to put your master class to work & catch some worms. Niko 🤙🏻
that sand trick is clever haha definately gonna use that next time i use fresh squid for bait off the beach
Hi Roger. The small shark that you caught looks like a dogfish. It's very common in Ireland where I fish. To safely unhook it you need to gab its tail the same time as grabbing its had, otherwise it will scratch you pretty badly, it's skin is like a sandpaper.
Yep! I Agree. We used to call them dog sharks. They make a barking noise. Didn't hear this one but he looks just like one.
The whiting would be nice with tomatoe, onion and garlic in the cavity and cooked. Delicious Roger.😃👍
Roger, Another great video. My wife and I go to Wooyoung Beach near Brunswick Heads. We use travelling rods about 7ft in length, 30 size reels and 8lb line. We can usually find a gutter near our parking spot and catch Bream, Flathead ,Whiting and #$%@$# dart!
We just use a line, No 3-4 sinker, swivel and about 2 foot trace called a leader nowadays!!. down to a No4 long shank or a 1/0 baitkeeper hook
Can big bream fight when they don't want to come in on that gear
At the end of the day everything goes back in the boot for next time.
As your video showed, you don't need big gear to catch good fish.
Keep up the good work
Dart can be annoying hey. Get them over legal and there great tasting if cooked straight away. Not bad for bait either. Lol I'm just sticking up for the dart. Brunswick heads brings back memory's
Really enjoy your vids, Roger. I particularly like to see fish caught for food rather than sport. I love fishing, and fish, but C&R seems far too much like playing with your food, for mine. Great session mate.
Great video as usually!! Shame you lost those Taylor as they probably would have been good size. Keep up the great work Roger 🎣🎣💪👍
Great instructional video, including the honesty on dropping whiting on the way in
put a mark on your rod to mark 27 cm for whiting ;) . nice video, love your content
Good idea. I'm going to borrow it!
That’s a really good idea!
cheers, your welcome @@iangodfrey6310
your welcome, using a red ballpoint looks good on cork, for foam white marker pen@@MakeAsylumsGre4tAgain
@@tristanvantijenthat’s a fantastic idea I will put a 55cm one on my rod for Barra
Hello Mr Osborne what a pleasure to meet you this Saturday morning.
I look like every time after my breakfast.
And it is a happiness because unfortunately I do not have the sea next to me and you give me the morale for the week.
For light mounting with lead ball what weight to take for a versatile fishing edge and the size of the hook because I have a small set?
Thank you very much
Nearly cried when you threw back that whiting it’s one of the best live baits you can use
Yeah, but illegal size!
@@ianrawlings2546that’s correct but I don’t know anyone that doesn’t use undersized fish for live bait
@@davidgc4396 Not legal, so would be crazy to film yourself doing it!
@@TheGeckogroove yes that’s correct they usually make idiots out of themselves without doing that. Unless you watch the real good fishermen who i subscribe to
I call them swell sharks, fantastic eating if you get a decent size one, peel skin off with pliers, cut away from cartilage, beer batter and some lemon and my god they taste good!!!
Love ur videos Roger!!
Watching and also subscribed from Brisbane!
Thanks for an interesting video Roger. Very interesting to see lynnandleescott identification on that Skaameye Shark. Also interesting to note the similarity of latitudes and species between South Africa and some Aussie States. As an expat Natal fisherman I never came upon one of these. BTW. Thanks heaps for that tip on skinning the tentacle. After sixty years of fishing I have learned this trick for the first time. 👍
another great vid mate ilghtning and rods dont mix man
best fishing Roger....
Looks like one of many species of catsharks, like a grey spotted one.
Thanks again Roger for another amazing video your tips are always so helpful
Very interesting video, Thanks Roger. 👍
I’m glad the lightning did not ZAP you! ⚡
That “Terrible Tailor” is not exactly a fisherman’s friend, are they?
Thank you for such a lovely feelgood video.
Just what I needed this evening!
You are so welcome!
Great video again. Looks like a good beach when not too much swell. I like using gang hooks when trying for bigger fish and tailor as the top hook is almost like a strong trace. Perhaps they’re not as effective to get bites because they’re not as natural looking ?
Hey roger I’m 14 u have said that my Sedona 5000 with 15 lb line and penn rod was good and I wanted to try two rods as thanks to u mate I had a lot of success just riding a a couple hours to the beach but do u thing a 4000 with a 6 to 8 kg with 10 lb braid is good. Very sorry for the amount of text lol
Just arrived in your home town Roger, the beaches are beautiful (and seem very familiar to me from your vids!
Great video, Roger! Loved to see what you got from the beach ay brother! =
Glad you enjoyed
Smoked shad taste awesome
Great video mate why don't you use circle hooks on the beach
Looks Like A: Blind shark (Brachaelurus waddi) 36:50
Good to see the variety of catch. How about a first aid vid? E.g what to do if you get a hook in yourself or get jabbed by flathead? I've done both.
Hi Roger love watching your beach fishing videos mate I just bought a 8’6 fishing rod rated 3 to 5 kg line class so was wondering what size reel would you put with it I’m hoping to use it to beach fish for bream an whiting I was also thinking of using 10pound mono with it would love to hear your opinion thanks mate 😊
Thanks for the great video Roger. I was curious, do you think I’d be able to catch beach worms in North Queensland up in Townsville?
I'm from up that way, Cairns, no beach worms. But a cast net will get heaps of mullet and decent prawns. I used to get heaps of yabbies/ nippers using a bait pump on sand flats at low tide. Until some idiots dredged that bay to build a marina. Killed an entire ecosystem.
Good feed roger good to see some early whiting yummy 😂
Looks similar to what we call Spiney dogfish in Nz
Hey mate can you go through your beach rod selection and reel selection for us I’m looking to get a larger fishing rod for the beach thanks mate
Hey mate, wonderful and entertaining video, where is this by the way?? 👍👍
Thanks for an enjoyable and full of fishing tips video. I will be visiting the Sunshine coast in December. Do you have any experiences fishing that area? Any advice and tips will be much appreciated.
Love your videos mate learnt a lot from you ❤️. And what beach is that if you don’t mind ?
The shark looked like a cat shark which we get in the uk, generally they don’t have teeth
Best way to unhook them is grab the tail and head at the same time with one hand
That way the skin doesn’t rub your skin
Years ago carpenters used the skin as sandpaper
What happened to you has happened to me many times and it can hurt
Did you choose to move closer to one side of the headland over just fishing in the middle of the beach ?
Hi Rog, thanks again for the wonderful educational video as always. Have been watching your videos to get tips and knowledge. Would you care to share this location please 🙏🏼. Also which species can be targeted this summer along beaches in nsw e.g. central cost, south and northern beaches? Haven't caught any fish on my outting 😢 Thanks again ❤
Wairo Beach NSW - Bream, Whiting, Salmon, Tailor, Mulloway, Flathead
It definitely looked like a dog fish to me, in England we would eat them , but only the middle part and the skin is like sandpaper and can be taken off with pliers.
Thanks mate ❤, I learned a lot. What beach it is?
I will keep them in the future if you can show me how to get a decent fillet off them
Maybe i should just fish for weedfish? Heard they are good for the garden so possibly another feed!
Not really sure but here in the uk i think the sea is over fished especially from neighbouring countries trawlers . Here i see fishermen along the beach waiting nearly all day for one catch 😢
Hi Roger, thank you for your videos. Do your half hitches create k in the line or do they pull through leaving to knots?
hi Roger wow amazing video again love it well explain ect where are u located in oz here we don't have the same beach around welly nz lol
Hi, I'm on the south coast of NSW
wow it looks stunning loving watching your video @@RogerOsborneFishing
Iwant someday fishing to the sea here in Bankok
Catshark of some type. There's over a 150 species of them in several genera. They are an egg laying shark.
Thanks mate
Dog Shark. :) They can make a barking noise.
You should be using a sabikki rig if you’re trying to catch bait
Off the beach? 😂
@@dragginmedown yeah use them all the time off the beach catch plenty of bait fish with them
@@davidgc4396 what state?
@@dragginmedown Northern Territory
@@davidgc4396 no one does that down south. Only off boat
Hi Roger, when we get a fair bit of rain does it chase the worms deeper or put them of feeding ??
Cheers mate.
Cookie shark.
It's a shy shark
Could be a horned shark or epaulette shark
Okay
Hey mate what line rating are u putting on ur speedmaster? Is braid or mono?
Can you show everyone who watches how to cook or fillet the small bream you keep I don't keep anything under 32cm
Hi Roger, do we get beach worms in WA?
no we don`t, not in any part of the state
HI Roger, is it possible to catch beach worms at the Perth beaches
So far no one has been able to confirm to me whether you can
@@RogerOsborneFishing thanks Roger
🎣 There shud be mixed couples angling - fishing comps for only husband - wife; boyfriend - girlfriend; brother - sister; etc,! all inclusive,! ... 🎣
😂 yeah nah
You should start with bread or earthworms
What state are you in. QLD or NSW 🐊
Hi mate I am in NSW
Lil Dog Fish
When you say Brim, do you mean. Bream?
Bream
I’m pretty sure it’s a small leopard shark
Drag to tight on small rod
Jew fish ?
I like how Roger didn't show it being released, he keeps everything when that camera turns off. He turns into a chinese person basically.
Are you ok mate? You realise people can see all your obsessive comments you make about Roger being a control freak. Projecting much?😊
Lol did you like your own comment? 😂
