Hi Roger. I take onboard so much of what you have to say and really it’s just common sense as long as you think like a fish ! You make it look so easy so keep it coming. Thanks.
Great work mate. Your appreciation of the whole experience of fishing shines through - you put into words what a lot of us feel when we're out there. Also people new to fishing would be inspired to take it up in good spirit. Thanks.
Hi Roger, Richard here we spoke that day , you had a good session as well I ended up with 3 big salmon & 3 whiting. its such a good beach. see you on the beaches 👍

Hi Roger! Always enjoy your videos from here in South Africa. Been a fishing enthusiast for years. Unable to fish now due to old age. Watching you I still do vicarious fishing from the comfort of my home. Thank you very much.
That’s why we don’t want Roger telling people where he fishes ) because before you know it every Tom dick and harry is at our local spots. We moved here because we do not want to fish a crowded beach.
Another great vid. I have found over the years is like you experienced, that you get few bites/fish in places where you are battling strong sweep/drift/current. My theory is that fish don’t congregate in those areas because they need to expend too much energy to hold position and feed.
Pretty much the only odd fish I’ve been able to catch in those conditions has been the odd flathead. When I have “followed” my bait down the beach, with the current. A bit like fishing on the drift from a boat - just not as productive 😀
Instructive and enjoyable! Thanks once again. Can you do something on how to use crab as a bait? I've always just found them a nuisance taking the bait, but clearly I have something to learn there-
Blowing it's arse off here on the sunshine coast really want to go beach fishing all rigged up ready to go at least I can watch your videos Roger awesome man thanks
Really enjoying and learning so much from your content Roger, I always look forward to your new videos. Thank you for all of your efforts to help us be better fishing lovers
16:00 Us sailors have a little rhyme to teach reading water. Brown, brown, run aground. White, white you just might. Green, green, nice and clean. Blue, blue, sail on through. I also look for the colour of the water to see where the wind is. When you look out over water, you can see dull dark-coloured areas, and you can see areas with lighter colour and they shimmer in the light. The dull is where the wind is disturbing the surface of the water, the shimmer is where the tops of the sine waves are neat, therefore no wind. The light will shimmer off neat water. To remember it, if you were to align a flat mirror with the sun, you can focus a beam in one direction (depending on the angle you choose), but if you have a disco mirror ball, you cannot focus the beam of light. It shines everywhere at once. The neat sine waves are the disco ball, therefore you see the shimmer no matter where you are standing.
This video was one of your very best!! Well done Roger. I was a cricketer and my mates at Wauchope were surfers. I got on a board in the Hastings River in 1964 and promptly went over the other side. Ruined my watch. I loved body surfing though. Were you a competition surfer or just roamed around? As for instructions, particularly current, where were you 40 years ago!!!
Hey Roger Great video mate looking forward to catch and cook Video, Levi and I learnt a lot in this weeks video, we are looking forward to spending a week Dow. Jervis bay next week trying. Our new found knowledge, keep it up Roger
had your stuff come up killing time on a shift change night. cant wait to get home and try a bit of surf fishing. not normaly a fisho but you got me keen again
Cracking session! Nice one mate. Funny you mention the mulloway near Port. Born and bred there and I get about 10-15 15kg+ mulloway a year in the area. As you said up near Southwest Rocks and Crescent Head are really great spots. South of Port near Harrington area is great too.
G'day Roger, great vid as always. That little indentation on the first bream you caught looks a lot like Saddleback Syndrome, we see it semi regularly up here around South East QLD. Be interesting to see if you notice it on any other bream you catch in the area. As far as I know, no definite cause is known but usually its thought to be linked to sewerage or some sort of water pollution. Could be wrong and It may just be scarring like you said, but keep an eye out for it!
Hey roger, I’m loving these vids. I’ve been beach fishing for 30+ years but I’m still learning so thank you for that. One suggestion for a future video, tell people why you lift one leg on an approaching wave. I know why but it’s probably a great little tip for beginners. Cheers mate, Steve B
Great video Roger. Re the shoes, I bought a pair at the end of last summer. I've only used them this summer and the velcro is coming off already. The stitching wasnt great. Other than that I agree they are super comfy...
Fish tacos - now there's something I could sink my teeth into! Have you tried them with salmon? Fantastic beach Wairo - been a while since I fished there though! Dart are ok to eat - i reckon they taste a bit like tailor . Fantastic video as usual Roger!
Thanks Ian, Pretty sure we have had Salmon in fish tacos but either way it would be good. We made some the other night, they were so good I have to do it again
Great video. Question - Do Salmon school in similar size group i.e. small fish school together and vica versa, or do they mix small fish with large fish?
Good question, Adrian. Yes, the Salmon school is usually a mix of small and large fish. What happens to me quite often; I’ll be fishing with bait (Pilchards), and be catching only small Salomon, because the small ones always get to the bait first. Then when I switch to a metal lure, and retrieve it nice and fast, I catch the biggest Salmon of the day in exactly the same spot! Note: This does not mean that you should only fish with a lure, it is always good to start with bait fishing to first attract the fish to your location, and to get them on the bite.
Hi Rodger, we where at that beach yesterday morning as well! Great session with 4 different types of fish! Spot selection was based of your previous videos!
Hi Roger, so when you go off camera to put a catch in your "keeper bag" do you dispatch the fish and or bleed it? Also what kind of bag is the "keeper bag"?
great video Roger , your always informing us about the value of prospecting and this content highlights that perfectly , i really enjoy your instruction and also your delivery of how you explain your reasoning's relating to conditions you consider during the planning of your vishing trips
When I'm fishing tailor and using a larger star sinker those fishing beads are too small and go through the eye of sinker. So I use larger threading beads from my daughters art's and craft kit. Works a treat
Great content again Roger. When waiting for a bite could you please make sure the rod tip is showing. Nothing like seeing that tip bring nibbled. Keep up the great footage, a credit to you both.
Thanks again Roger another great video even though our landbased whiting fishing is quite different but we are still able to implement some of your ideas tight lines. 😊
Been finding a lot of beaches around Sydney recently that ive been to have no structure. Its just one uniform wave coming in. When this happens do i fish the ends of the beach?
hi Roger, I hope you are well.i was wondering how does one use the drag control/spool release on the reel, when is it a good time to open or close it up?will be nice to see a video on
Hi Roger whiting are one of the best fish to eat Sashimi style with a light soy sauce and wasabi. Wonderful thinly sliced white flesh dipped in the soy and wasabi mix. Not too much wasbi
Great fishing session Roger. It seemed many of those fish didnt fight very hard. At times you were not confident you had a fish on, or two for that matter. Is that common for those species or why do you think so? Ta
I'm not sure. Sometimes the fish swim towards you and then fight more closer to the shore. Also, small fish are hard to detect if you catch them on a heavier line.
Been a good lesson for me Roger , I used to find a gutter and sit there in the hope I might hook up wasting lots of productive fishing time , I should have known better , in the future I’ll be in hunting mode lol , table fish are fantastic , any chance of a video on catching mullet off the beach I’m not sure on how to go about that or if it’s possible, anyway great video Roger , thank you for sharing your fantastic fishing videos.👍
I know I can find the gutters by eye but Roger have you ever mucked about with an aerial drone above to spot the optimal deep holes and get a different perspective Roger ?
Good idea to cast right on the edge of the sandbar. 👍 Like near the bank of a river, the current should be weaker in that location. This is also most likely where the fish will be, because they don’t want to waste all their energy swimming against the current in the middle of the trough.
So the star sinker would be fine for 6 pound for whitting ? I have a 7” 3-5kg spin for whitting . And enquiring about the star sinker if that will be good .
Hi Roger Love the videos! I would love to know what weight the 12 foot taipan is? Is it 5-9kg. I have a 10ft Penn Prevail 8-15kg and wondering if it would be suitable for bait fishing off the beach?

Hi Roger, I’ve noticed you don’t seem to carry an eski when you fish. How long do you think the fish can last unrefrigerated, I’m always concerned about fish going off if I don’t use them.

I love it when Roger puts the timer up! I get all excited 😂
So pleasant not to have the over-hype of many fishing channels with their yells, authoritative speak, massive excitement etc.
I say it every video Roger….so instructional and educational. What a great session. Looking forward to your catch and cook video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Mark 👍
