Hi all - I fitted one to my '22 Trek Rail - for the most part it works brilliantly and does what it says on the tin - however I feel it's only fair to warn prospective buyers that you WILL experience frequent controller crashes/reboots and KIOX speed indication freezes amongst several other odd issues. The "Countdown" they mention happens erratically and sometimes even whilst still pedalling causing complete loss of power - distance is recalculated seemingly randomly and appears in chunks here and there - BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY I''m now on my 2nd Speed Manipulation Warning 524001 despite following the guidance of the device to the letter. The bike is now crippled and in LIMP mode again - after the 3rd time I can't reset this myself. I've done 3400KM with this device, it transforms the bike and my fun - I'd still recommend it, but please be aware that IT WILL BE DETECTED at some point!

FYI, in February of this year we updated our firmware which blocks tuning detection and seems resistant to system updates via the Flow App. Our view is that the Smart System is a challenge in itself. Great news that the device is still being developed ... but we have no way to update the firmware and my supplier is just asking me to connect to the flow app and update the bike ... this will of course report the manipulation to Bosch and void my warranty. I'm reluctant to do this but would be keen to trial later firmware in the speedbox. I'm unsure how to go about this?
Bought one and have a few questions please: What is this 'Countdown' process all about and why is it necessary? Everything is clear but that part...can you please do a video to eleborate on this requirement? Does it take long to complete? Is the time you have to wait for the countdown process to complete relative to the distance covered or time the unit is on? What happens if the bike battery is completely depleted during a ride? What do you mean by 'prevent tuning detection' and how long is 'regularly' with regards to having to run the countdown process? Cheers.
If I understand it correctly, the countdown process basically sets your avg speed to 25km/h so that if police checks your bike they cant see immediately that you chipped it

Hello, Mário already answered. If the battery runs out while driving, the countdown process will continue again after charging. We recommend it as a prevention against detection.
Will there be a possibility to set another max speed? Like for example 35KM/H in stead of unlimited? Also interested in countdown time; will it take longer when bike was driven longer, or it it a fixed time? And what happens when battery goes flat during last KM of ride?
Hello. Bosch 3.0, 3.0 B.Tuning and 1.0 B.Tuning have speed limit settings. Countdown time depends on time and speed of your trip. If your battery is flat, then remove and charge and countdown process will start.

For some reason on the the cx motors, they loose their responsiveness after been used, very annoying during commuting and on hills. You loose power before you do a full rotation. Only seem to do it the cx motors. Have had speedbox and peartune tuning boxes. Stopped using them now. Moved to volspeed v4. The only one that seems to allow the cx motors to keep their responsiveness at all time and don't have to wait to do the countdown, very handy when you have intuvia, kiox displays. If you have any of the motors below the cx model then speedbox and peartune will work fine. But if you have the cx gen4 then look at volspeed v4 (doesn't work with smart system, but are working on it)

Bought this for my bike, Gen 4 and Smart system. After about 300km Bosch system detected it and there goes the limping mode... Had to remove Speedbox since i dont want it to happen many times. Also irregular system reboots happened without any warning.. So I guess that this was money not so well spent if there is no money coming back or the box can some how be updated...

We also recommend removing the SpeedBox from the e-bike if you are going to run a software update. However, the Smart System is "smart" and sometimes updates without warning. The motor and software manufacturer is trying to complicate tuning. Invents updates and errors. We are still working to eliminate all discrepancies. See below and beware if you have the Smart System. The bike engineer had never before seen the error that could not be reset. He stated this is now the New Way of reporting to BOSCH.

@@ragnarlothbrok4683 I'm getting weird bike restarts too on my cube . Seems to happen more often when going fast downhill. The simple fact that the bike records high speeds even when not pedaling causes it to restart most of the times. No error codes (yet). Did you get any solution?

I have a cube stereo hybrid 160 TM 2022 with bosch smart system, i have had and have a lot of problems with my speedbox 1.0 When i activate my speedbox 1.0 it shows values of 10km/h and 5.0 instead of 9.9 and 4.9. When i use the speedbox 1.0 with my smart display the bike just turn itself off every time, sometimes fast en sometimes after a few km. Also the way the remote is responding with activated speedbox is not well it's glitchy when i use it in combo with the display, it jumps to every assist mode when trying to activate or adjust it. It also has been detected once by the bosch software even tho i did everything right, i noticed that when the speedbox is counting it sometimes counts with a very unrealistic high speed value while the bike doesn't move and then the average speed goes up instead of down resulting in a average speed of more than 25km/h. Also the responsiveness of the bike is sometimes very slow especially if it is in counting mode. But the speedbox is sort of usable when i remove the display between the controller and the motor, then i use my bosch app to look if the speedbox is activated and then you can use it sort of, with less problems. Still not as responsive as without speedbox. NOTE: This is my second speedbox 1.0 and when i don't use the speedbox everything works very well including the display. Is there anyone that uses the bluethoot version and thoes it work without problems? I would love to have a good working one :(
Hi Ron. Thank you for your feedback. We are not happy that you are having these chip and motor complications. The Bosch Smart System is simply "smart" and unfriendly to tuning. I'm not using the Kiox 300, I prefer to have my Garmin Edge 530 instead, so I don't know how the speed counter works on that display, but after sending back my old unit, I got a new one just days ago. I will re install it in the next days, hoping they solved the issues I had.

I use to have the same problem with the first speedboxes it shutted itself down after a short distance of riding, but it was way less to almost never without the use of the kiox 300 display. And i am sure all cabels where correctly attached.
@@FabrizioGarattoni i have received a new speedbox 1.0B a while ago, i have tested it and it works fine now. I don't have any problems anymore. Only thing is when the countdown procedure starts in the app there is a delay with the pedal assist when you start to pedal while the countdown procedure is stil on. But besides that it works fine now :)
My ebike today turned off after 1 month without problems .. and it was limited in the torque... My bike was not the same... updates were always disabled and I always left it on to do the countdown. Speedbox was detected.
Hello. Our findings so far indicate that the tuning detection (error code 504) is more sensitive if you drive faster than 40 km/h. We are constantly working to eliminate this issue. However, this error code does not appear on the vast majority of bikes and cannot be easily triggered in laboratory conditions. Improvements are therefore still being worked on.
@@SpeedBoxTuning Guys, the problem is not driving 40km without tuning, countdowns or turning off updates ... I and many other people like me, we have always done things right. the problem is that the speedbox needs much more time to be developed, because the smart system is very sophisticated and at this point you have to give concrete answers to those who bought it and are having problems ... or make a refund and guarantee that the speedbox will be updated for free in the future. I bought it on amazon and I'm going crazy to get a refund from the seller who refuses ... I hope I have not lose 230 euros.

@@raftermanhoward1883 Hello guys. The 504 error can rarely happens. Sometimes it can be caused by mechanical issues like damaged pin during installation. In any case it is not a system error. It is hardly possible to "provoke" this error on purpose for diagnostics, but we are still looking for ways to eliminate this issue as much as possible.

Installed mine and is not working well… sometimes the chip turns off… when i activate it says 10.5 instead of 9.9… the speed is not reading well… im going like 23kmh and it says 23,5…. I know that only the last 2 digits counts, but im going at 23, not 35… (23,5kmh on the display)

Hello. The Bosch Smart System is a challenge in itself. Even without tuning, there is a risk of an error message. Other tuning manufacturers give different recommendations to their customers, for example regarding the recommended maximum average speed, but we have not confirmed that this has an effect on the risk of error messages. However, in February of this year we updated our firmware which blocks tuning detection and seems resistant to system updates via the Flow App.
Just a quick warning. I have used this tuning module and even though i used countdown after each bike ride, i still got the 524001 error today and now the bike is in limp mode.
Oh really! I just got the 1.0b shipped today... maybe I should return it! Did you get the error immediately after starting the bike or did it go into limp mode in the middle of a ride?
@@TpyroX9 no i got it after about 50km. I'm not using mine anymore. If you hit the limp mode 3 times, you would have to go to the dealer to get it unlocked.
@@TpyroX9 i got the regular and it did happen 2 km into a ride. I actually wrote to speedbox to let them know i followed all the things you needed to do(cooldown etc.) but still got the limp mode. They responded that it was because i did not. So i was kind of sad that they did not want to do anything about it.

@@SpeedBoxTuning The way my bike is set up the Flow app records ride activity. I also use it to check battery charge and occasionally change the assist settings. Does that all have to be disabled? Or do you simply not open the app while the bike is on? Thanks in advance

BUT: we are currently finalizing a completely new chip for the Smart System, which will have simplified communication with the engine. Hi fitted your speed box 1.0 for my Bosch smart system 2022 bike with 750 batt I’ve followed your videos to check if it’s turned off or on but when off mine shows 1.5 or 1.6 when activated shows 6.2 any reason why
So sad, it killed my bike again - the "February" onwards batch was recommened but I only managed 171KM before it went into limp mode again. I follow the usage instructions to the letter, and to be fair it's been much better behaved (no crashes, speed freezes, reboots etc.) but it didn't take very long for it to be detected by the latest Bosch firmware. I've contacted the manufacturer and my supplier in the UK. I'll post back with updates for those that are interested.
@Mirko Pena Not really, importer has kindly offered me a refund, manufacturer has been in touch ... I'm keen to get to the bottom of this and help them out. For now I've refitted the device after getting my dealer to clear the manipulation error (reporting to Bosch on the process). I'm trying it with a lower speed limit of 40KPH ... three varied nights of testing ... so far ... no further issues. Watch this space.
@@The5laYYer I've had twice the 504 error on my cube 750 smart system only after 200km so I removed the device because I am not sure whether I have one more try to go before the engine is completely blocked. Even my dealer could not answer my questions: is it at the fourth error message that the engine is blocked (meaning I can have 3 errors) or at the 3rd message ? And now that the dealer cleared the two errors I've had, does that resets the engine to zero, meaning I can have 3 errors again ? If anyone knows the answers I will appreciate. My guess is that the detection comes from the bluetooth and the app but not a 100% sure.
@@jacqueskralian4541 Detection is NOTHING to do with the Flow app / bluetooth - I've never used it (dreadful app anyway). It's all internal to the software on the bike. It is my belief that the software allows THREE warnings where you can clear the error yourself with a limp mode (pulsed low power output) 90 minute ride, then the 4th HAS to be cleared by the dealer (which uploads a report to Bosch) with their diagnostics software. What happens on the 5th manipulation detection I don't know - I haven't found out yet.

This Speed Box 1.0 is a prototype of sorts and so expensive , from what I read here it's a massacre! Errors, current speed on the last two digits etc. Gentlemen, do something decent without these combinations and then I will buy for sure, technically it is certainly possible, and so you drive, think, look whether it works or not, whether there is an error or not instead of concentrating on driving.

@@SpeedBoxTuning Just got this message and i emailed you iaw your instructions. I took it to a dealer as i had no options left to me. They right away knew it was hacked and they could not reset the bike at all. Even after they did it came back and with the same error. I was told to remove the box, which i did and it works now. Bosch recieved that and have now registered my details with the bike and its failure (ie hacked). I can not afford to ruin the warrenty as i would be left with a £3500 bike i could not use......

@@doktormerlin no, it prevents tuning detection, you can easily get a 504 error code, countdown simulate ride and prevent this detection

Does this speedbox also chip tune the walk fuction. Will it push the bike faster that 2.5 km/h?
Hello Iulian. There is currently no option to speed up the WALK function.
It works great if you do the follow, wait countdown ready. And don't use flow app connection on your phone while chip on. It compares gps speed.

Hello. Generally, in some models, you may lightly increase the speed - let´s say from 25 to 27 km/h. But this is not a significant change :)

I have a cube stereo hybrid 160 TM 2022 with bosch smart system, i have had and have a lot of problems with my speedbox 1.0
When i activate my speedbox 1.0 it shows values of 10km/h and 5.0 instead of 9.9 and 4.9.
When i use the speedbox 1.0 with my smart display the bike just turn itself off every time, sometimes fast en sometimes after a few km.
Also the way the remote is responding with activated speedbox is not well it's glitchy when i use it in combo with the display, it jumps to every assist mode when trying to activate or adjust it.
It also has been detected once by the bosch software even tho i did everything right, i noticed that when the speedbox is counting it sometimes counts with a very unrealistic high speed value while the bike doesn't move and then the average speed goes up instead of down resulting in a average speed of more than 25km/h.
Also the responsiveness of the bike is sometimes very slow especially if it is in counting mode.
But the speedbox is sort of usable when i remove the display between the controller and the motor, then i use my bosch app to look if the speedbox is activated and then you can use it sort of, with less problems.
Still not as responsive as without speedbox.
NOTE: This is my second speedbox 1.0 and when i don't use the speedbox everything works very well including the display.
Is there anyone that uses the bluethoot version and thoes it work without problems?

Hi Ron. Thank you for your feedback. We are not happy that you are having these chip and motor complications. The Bosch Smart System is simply "smart" and unfriendly to tuning. Bosch is constantly coming up with software updates and new errors. We are working to eliminate all discrepancies. Please try contacting our support team.

@@Simracing_Content Hi, I have a Cube Stereo Hybrid 140 TM 2022, and my speedbox 1.0b worked well, until it started to randomly turn off completely the bike, forcing me to re start it manually. I'm not using the Kiox 300, I prefer to have my Garmin Edge 530 instead, so I don't know how the speed counter works on that display, but after sending back my old unit, I got a new one just days ago. I will re install it in the next days, hoping they solved the issues I had.

I use to have the same problem with the first speedboxes it shutted itself down after a short distance of riding, but it was way less to almost never without the use of the kiox 300 display. And i am sure all cabels where correctly attached.
@@FabrizioGarattoni i have received a new speedbox 1.0B a while ago, i have tested it and it works fine now.
I don't have any problems anymore.
Only thing is when the countdown procedure starts in the app there is a delay with the pedal assist when you start to pedal while the countdown procedure is stil on. But besides that it works fine now :)
My ebike today turned off after 1 month without problems .. and it was limited in the torque... My bike was not the same... updates were always disabled and I always left it on to do the countdown.

Hello. Our findings so far indicate that the tuning detection (error code 504) is more sensitive if you drive faster than 40 km/h. We are constantly working to eliminate this issue. However, this error code does not appear on the vast majority of bikes and cannot be easily triggered in laboratory conditions. Improvements are therefore still being worked on.
@@SpeedBoxTuning Guys, the problem is not driving 40km without tuning, countdowns or turning off updates ... I and many other people like me, we have always done things right.
the problem is that the speedbox needs much more time to be developed, because the smart system is very sophisticated and at this point you have to give concrete answers to those who bought it and are having problems ... or make a refund and guarantee that the speedbox will be updated for free in the future.
I bought it on amazon and I'm going crazy to get a refund from the seller who refuses ... I hope I have not lose 230 euros.

Hello, I have the Cube 140 smart system from 2023. I cant tune it with Speedbox 1 bosch smart system. I cant use the green connector, the green port is not in use but the blue one next. like it show in the installation video. I have a blue one came from the bike next one the green. Anyone tips why?
Does it work correctly after few months ? And do people have the 504 error a lot with smart system ?
I got 504 after 120km with this, I would steer clear for now.

@@raftermanhoward1883 Hello guys. The 504 error can rarely happens. Sometimes it can be caused by mechanical issues like damaged pin during installation. In any case it is not a system error. It is hardly possible to "provoke" this error on purpose for diagnostics, but we are still looking for ways to eliminate this issue as much as possible.

Hello. We recommend leaving the bike on for a while after each ride in order to countdown the mileage to avoid any errors. If you have any question, please contact our support.

My bike was the same I let it count down like they said but it still put me into limp mode
@@lesliekirk7036 Hello. According our experience, the tuning detection is more sensitive, if you drive more then 42 km/h. If you drive max 40 km/h, you can avoid the unpopular limp mode.

Installed mine and is not working well… sometimes the chip turns off… when i activate it says 10.5 instead of 9.9… the speed is not reading well… im going like 23kmh and it says 23,5…. I know that only the last 2 digits counts, but im going at 23, not 35… (23,5kmh on the display)

How good is the firmware now at avoiding detection? I really want to buy one of these but reading the comment section is a horror story...
Hello. The Bosch Smart System is a challenge in itself. Even without tuning, there is a risk of an error message. Other tuning manufacturers give different recommendations to their customers, for example regarding the recommended maximum average speed, but we have not confirmed that this has an effect on the risk of error messages. However, in February of this year we updated our firmware which blocks tuning detection and seems resistant to system updates via the Flow App.

Just a quick warning. I have used this tuning module and even though i used countdown after each bike ride, i still got the 524001 error today and now the bike is in limp mode.
Oh really! I just got the 1.0b shipped today... maybe I should return it! Did you get the error immediately after starting the bike or did it go into limp mode in the middle of a ride?
@@TpyroX9 no i got it after about 50km. I'm not using mine anymore. If you hit the limp mode 3 times, you would have to go to the dealer to get it unlocked.

@@TpyroX9 i got the regular and it did happen 2 km into a ride. I actually wrote to speedbox to let them know i followed all the things you needed to do(cooldown etc.) but still got the limp mode. They responded that it was because i did not. So i was kind of sad that they did not want to do anything about it.

Hi. Yes it can. For this reason, we do not recommend updating the software or using FlowApp at the same time after installing the chip 🙂
@@SpeedBoxTuning The way my bike is set up the Flow app records ride activity. I also use it to check battery charge and occasionally change the assist settings. Does that all have to be disabled? Or do you simply not open the app while the bike is on? Thanks in advance
@@cadriver2570 In general, it's a bit complicated if you want to have Smart System and use tuning at the same time. BUT: we are currently finalizing a completely new chip for the Smart System, which will have simplified communication with the engine. Hi fitted your speed box 1.0 for my Bosch smart system 2022 bike with 750 batt I’ve followed your videos to check if it’s turned off or on but when off mine shows 1.5 or 1.6 when activated shows 6.2 any reason why

So sad, it killed my bike again - the "February" onwards batch was recommened but I only managed 171KM before it went into limp mode again. I follow the usage instructions to the letter, and to be fair it's been much better behaved (no crashes, speed freezes, reboots etc.) but it didn't take very long for it to be detected by the latest Bosch firmware. I've contacted the manufacturer and my supplier in the UK. I'll post back with updates for those that are interested.

@Mirko Pena Not really, importer has kindly offered me a refund, manufacturer has been in touch ... I'm keen to get to the bottom of this and help them out. For now I've refitted the device after getting my dealer to clear the manipulation error (reporting to Bosch on the process). I'm trying it with a lower speed limit of 40KPH ... three varied nights of testing ... so far ... no further issues. Watch this space.
@@The5laYYer I've had twice the 504 error on my cube 750 smart system only after 200km so I removed the device because I am not sure whether I have one more try to go before the engine is completely blocked. Even my dealer could not answer my questions: is it at the fourth error message that the engine is blocked (meaning I can have 3 errors) or at the 3rd message ? And now that the dealer cleared the two errors I've had, does that resets the engine to zero, meaning I can have 3 errors again ? If anyone knows the answers I will appreciate. My guess is that the detection comes from the bluetooth and the app but not a 100% sure.
@@jacqueskralian4541 Detection is NOTHING to do with the Flow app / bluetooth - I've never used it (dreadful app anyway). It's all internal to the software on the bike. It is my belief that the software allows THREE warnings where you can clear the error yourself with a limp mode (pulsed low power output) 90 minute ride, then the 4th HAS to be cleared by the dealer (which uploads a report to Bosch) with their diagnostics software. What happens on the 5th manipulation detection I don't know - I haven't found out yet.

This Speed Box 1.0 is a prototype of sorts and so expensive , from what I read here it's a massacre! Errors, current speed on the last two digits etc.
Gentlemen, do something decent without these combinations and then I will buy for sure, technically it is certainly possible, and so you drive, think, look whether it works or not, whether there is an error or not instead of concentrating on driving.

They are all solvable, you can contact your dealer or our support at any time. If you want to monitor all real riding data now, we recommend the B.Tuning version with Bluetooth.

@@SpeedBoxTuning Just got this message and i emailed you iaw your instructions. I took it to a dealer as i had no options left to me. They right away knew it was hacked and they could not reset the bike at all. Even after they did it came back and with the same error. I was told to remove the box, which i did and it works now. Bosch recieved that and have now registered my details with the bike and its failure (ie hacked). I can not afford to ruin the warrenty as i would be left with a £3500 bike i could not use......
