13:40 I love the small detail in the song when Eliza says she speaks out about slavery. If you haven’t watched the musical, they have Washington in the background put his head down in shame. He owned slaves and in his will wanted them to be free, but his wish didn’t follow through. I just love that. Sad, but a cool history fact I learned from the musical. Thank you for the series on Hamilton. There are a few songs that didn’t make it to the play, like One Last Thought. Not sure if you’ll check it out, but it’s really good. That and the Jefferson roast rap 🤣 Edit: 40 likes? I hope you guys enjoyed that little musical Easter egg. It’s a small detail but I love it. One moment he’s standing proud about the Washington Monument. The next, he’s bowing in shame about owning slaves and that he could’ve done better. Body language is so powerful. I also learned from this-that the Hamilton’s had slaves as well. Not sure about how they were treated. This series was meant to teach us and I was taught a few things I didn’t know. Thank you.
i know you don't like that this series took a year but honestly it's been a great little pandemic series and i'm glad it gave me a little extra to look forward to for the last year lol
I used Hamilton as a way to engage my 13 year grandson in early American history - it made for a good stepping stone to research and discussion about what might have happened. Thanks again for reacting to the musical!
I know how you feel at the end Brady - it tugs at your heartstrings. You always find great animatics and this one was good. Hamilton is a great story and if you dragged this on and on, I wouldn’t get tired of it. Good job!
Any chance you could take a look of the stage version of Anastasia? Is an interesting musical take on the myth that the Grand Duchess survived I think you'd like it, even if it isn't your area of expertise
Loved the scene were nobility and intellectual people had to leave the city. The song about how "could I desert my Home?" nearly brought me to tears. And than a phone Rang 😑
This song haunts me now Everytime I do something I ask my self if anyone would know anything to tell about me in the end I find a weird happiness contemplating no one would
I’d be over the moon excited if you did 1776. It’s my favorite musical. It’s much more along the lines of a traditional musical though… inaccuracies abound and compacting things into too few lyrics is common. Still, it’s quite a fun time! I don’t think you’ll find any animatics to react to though… it’s not nearly as popular as Hamilton, obviously. I’m so glad you chose to utilize animatics in this series though. It gave us something interesting to look at while saving you from copyright issues, as well as giving us the opportunity to see some lovey and fun work done by other creators!
I'm pretty sure LMM highlighted the immigrant angle, at least in part, to use it as a narrative device. It's one of the reasons I think this play is as much about America's foundational myths as it is about actual history. If you notice, in the first act it's something to be celebrated, "even immigrants can be successful here". And in the second act it's used as a reason to look down on him, "who does this immigrant think he is, telling us what to do?" It's the two sides of the American immigrant story, and it's at least as important to how Americans see themselves as the story of the Founding Fathers is.
The fact that Eliza loved her husband so much that she opened an orphanage so she could reduce the number of children going through what he had to growing up just hits me every time
Congrats on finishing! (at least the main stuff, yeah :D ) These vids introduced me to your channel, and I am enjoying other things you're doing. My boyfriend and I were particularly fascinated by the Extra History vids on Japan and Korea. Looking forward to checking out the Zulu vids next! If you're interested in another historical musical, I think an interesting choice would be "Come From Away." It's seriously underrated. The problem is there's not actual "videos" of the songs, just the audio with the album cover. So might not be great visual material to react to, but the musical itself is truly fascinating. "Come From Away" is about the 38 planes diverted to the town of Gander, Newfounland on Sep 11th, 2001, basically doubling the town's population for almost a weeki while the American air space is closed. As I listen to my album, I am fascinated by the real people portrayed in it, many of whom I assume would still be alive today. If nothing else, it would be a great musical to enjoy on your own. Like I said, it's sorely underrated. As an intro to the musical, I check out the first song, "Welcome To The Rock,""Blankets and Bedding," and, if you want something somber, "Prayer" is beautiful. Like I said, reaction-wise, I don't think you'll find much on youtube to react to other than the actual audio, but if you're able to make something out of that, IMO it would really be worth it.
I know you didn't like how much this musical took to cover but it has really inspired me and you're one of my biggest idols. You made me want to study history ^^
He was an immigrant, that island did not belong to United States and came to live here, no just to visit. Also the musical is not a history book, but at least brought in thousands of kids and adults to check in on history, to talk about it, to have reflect on how history is part of our lives and you can do so much more with it. So thank you for your reaction and I hope that you enjoyed the art put together to this work of art.
Thank you so much for doing these! They were so enjoyable to watch and get your perspective on. I hope that one day we can see the drunk history on Hamilton with your reaction. 😝 Good luck with your studies coming up!
Not sure if anyone recommended this already (and I probably won't be the last), but have you considered checking out the musical "SIX"? It's a one-act concert-like musical that focuses on the ex-wives of Henry the VIII. Summary: If the wives of Henry the VIII formed a pop girl group, you would be the leader of the group? Hear they're respective backstories and decide which one experienced the greatest struggles and therefore deserves the role as the lead.
I’m not even religious, but the line “The Lord, in His kindness, He gives me what you always wanted. He gives me more time!” never fails to make me emotional for some reason. Maybe it’s just because of how beautiful of an idea it is that even if you die younger than you’d like and don’t get to experience everything you wanted, the life you missed out on might transfer over into the lives of your surviving loved ones. But yeah, that line and the entire orphanage part always gets me choked up 🥹❤️🩹
I also think they should make a musical about Eliza what happened before she met Hamilton what happened while she was at her dads after he cheated on her what happened after he died we need more details about her in the way we made Hamilton popular

Adding to this Fun fact, that was a decision the actor made for the live recordings.
@@rockylikm I loved that little detail. I knew about it but forgot about it while typing. Thanks for the reminder ❤️
The orphanage part comes up.
Him:😢 i-its just my allergies.
I blame the onion ninja.
The fact that one of ElizAS CHILDREN WAS A PART OF THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD IS THE GREATEST THING IVE EVER HEARD THANK YOU FOR THAT INFO

This song always makes me cry.
"excuse me my allergize" says the man wiping away a tier while watching THIS song

Thank you for the series Brady! Really fun to watch you explain the history behind Hamilton's story.

I completely respect you're decision. That being said, Laurens Interlude tho...
Yay! I listened to this without crying! Congrats on making it to the end!

Any interest in covering the HBO John Adams series?
I think at the beginning what you meant was that there was a million things you havent done

Idk if you have done this but you should react to congratulations as we see more of the relationship that Angelica and Eliza have and cherish
