fun fact that you may already know: Curt’s actor is literally called curt mega. Curt Mega is played by Curt Mega. It makes the joke of ‘if that is your real name’ even funnier
First of all, the big twist at the end ripped my heart into a million pieces and made the earlier parts of the show full of dread or just sad. Second, if I had a nickel for every time a Joey Richter character monologued his evil plan/philosophy to a Curt Mega character on a dark stairway and said evil plan/philosophy involved silicon in a significant way, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
Brian Rosenthal (Von Nazi) is Jewish, as are many of the other cast members: Lauren Lopez, Joey Richter, Corey Lubowich, and Joe Walker. As well as a lot of the Starkid cast. Also a lot of things they sing about in the song (Volkswagen etc.) were not great to begin with: Volkswagen was a Nazi scam. This definitely makes the whole thing more digestible. Also Darren Criss (one of the founders of Starkid and the actor of Harry Potter in their accessible first musical) is in the audience for this! He is the one who cheers during Joey Richter's speech at the beginning of act 1. Also, the Prince was played by someone different every performance, with even the cast not knowing it would be. In the recorded version it's the third Tin Can Brother - Corey Lubowich - but one performance it was a dog, which made everyone break character.
Jewish person here: one of the oldest ways we have dealt with generational trauma of oppression, ethnic cleansing, and attempted genocide is through humor and reducing our enemies to jokes! (We even have a whole holiday where many traditions are about making fun of the person who tries to genocide all Jews in the Persian empire at the time where kids dress up as literal caracatures of him! 😂...this is a holiday that goes back over 2000 years, and it's called Purim). Dr. Baron von Nazi is literally one of my favorite Nazi parody characters out there, and me and my sister (both musical theater geeks) will often start singing "Natzis are not so bad" then shout at each other "WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU!?!" and burst into laughter!😂😂😂
I don't think anyone in chat mentioned this but the actress who played Susan / The Informant goes by Esther Fallick now! She shows up in a few other Tin Can Bros / Starkid projects so it's good to know for future videos.
Saw I saw this live in concert in NYC, and Brian (who plays Baron and is Jewish as is 2/3 of the people that made this play) made it very clear that the character and the song is made by Jews and is for Jews to make fun of the Nazis and mock them for failing to kill us. I personally love the song and I think it does a great job at making fun of how old spy movies glorified Nazis.
I mean look at all the movies set around that time period, Indiana Jones, I think even the semi recent movie Jungle Cruise. Nazi's are always the villains. Either that or their German. I enjoy the Nazi song, because I love the irony, and that would be exactly how all Nazi's would see themselves.
Joey Richter is absolutely magnetic! Like whenever he's on screen (not just as Owen, but especially as Owen), you can't take your eyes off him. I genuinely sometimes forget that 2 characters played by him are the same actor, that's how much he morphs into the character! Truly my favorite Starkid performer❤
Didn’t they have a different person play the prince every night? I thought I remembered them saying it was a surprise each performance and one night they brought Diane out (Joey and Lauren’s dog)
Spies are forever is genuinely one of my favorite musicals, i love it so much! You should totally check out The Solve it Squad at some point! Its another thing that Tin Can Bros made and its also super great :D
Couple of small facts. When Owen is shown after torture tango, you can see deadliest man checking his mask is still on. Also, when curt is talking about his feelings with Owen at the end, Owen’s gun points at Curt’s chest before going back to his head. When I first watched this I was confused why it was such a bad thing to have what is basically todays internet, especially when Barb also had the same idea. It’s actually a big deal for Curt because of the lavender scare at the time. It was a witch hunt for gay people. Even if you were only suspected of being gay, it could ruin your whole life. If the technology wasn’t stopped, not only curt, but anyone with secrets like that would be in danger. It’s such a small bit of context but it adds so much to the story. It makes Owen’s betrayal so much worse.
The prince was played by someone different at each show. I saw it live and i genuinely think they pulled a drunk person off the street for my show. She was so confused and it was hilarious 😂
As a trans guy it is SO FUNNY that the trans girl playing Susan has the last name Fallick, I can't believe I didn't know she's trans until now. I WISH the stars aligned for me to have a name that ironic
Just wanted to say this musical was made before Susan's actress came out as trans! She uses she/her now and is a trans woman named Esther! :) Like I said this was before she came out so her deadname is listed in the credits
The character Baron is clearly meant for sattire. As someone who is Dutch (not Jewish tho) I learned a lot about WOII in school and most (if not all) European countries hurt by WOII know that laughing AT n@zis is fine. So when I first saw this character and song I laughed so hard 😂😂😂
Spies are forever and spies never die, therefore Owen didn't die the first, or the second time (shh, let me believe so) nor did the Informant. Conclusion: Spies are actually immortal
I do love this show so much!! I watched it before I realized I was a lesbian and in Doing This was like "hey tatiana's kinda relatable" and did not look into that at all
I think you should consider getting a better microphone, turning your gain down, or investing in a foam microphone cover cuz I wanna watch ur vids but the mouth sounds are infuriating
You think its controversial to portray nazis as bad guys???? Or just to portray them at all??????? I was enjoying this reaction until you got weird about that
I can see where you are coming from, but I don’t think it is controversial to portray nazis as bad guys. Whilst watching what I felt was discomfort. I was unaware of the topics of the show before watching it live (which I should’ve looked up so that’s on me) and the portrayal caught me off guard by the bedazzled-ness of it all. I think the writers and performers did a really good job of making them silly and ironic (which made it more digestible) and depicting them as the villains that they are. sorry for any confusion :/
As a jewish person, it honestly doest bother me. First time i watched this musical i thought it was hilarious actually. What really grinds my gears is getting conspiracy theorist videos on my fyp on tiktok with all the commets being “the austrian painter was right” and revolting shit like that and it not being called out.. the fact that people dont notice the rampant rise of antisemitism yet they’re getting offended for jewish people for movies like “jojo rabbit” and saf and other media that portrays nazis in a ridiculous funny way not realizing it makes fun of them, I’m so tired of that
I’m so happy you reacted to this. It’s honestly one of my favourites. Don’t know if you’re opening to reacting to it, but Edgar Allen Poe’s murder mystery (by shipwrecked here on yt) is really great. Not a musical, but super fun. I love watching people each to murder mysteries, and it has Mary Kate Wiles , Curt Mega, Joey Richter and Lauren Lopez.🫶
fun fact that you may already know: Curt’s actor is literally called curt mega. Curt Mega is played by Curt Mega. It makes the joke of ‘if that is your real name’ even funnier
i didn’t realise until the credits rolled! it added an extra element hehe
Lmao, it’s bc they were trying to find a cool name and decided there’s nothing cooler than “Curt Mega” so they kept it
First of all, the big twist at the end ripped my heart into a million pieces and made the earlier parts of the show full of dread or just sad.

Only just realised the significance of him getting a BEARD

thanks for letting me know! she was fab!!
Wow her performance is in this is put in a new light!

Isnt joey jewish as well?
@@lisak8492 I don’t think he is? I know Lauren is. I’ll look it up.
@@bex1107 richter sounds pretty jewish, also i thought they only let the jewish actors sing the nazi song

Little fun fact, Curt Mega the actor is actually married to Kim Whalen who played Becky Barnes in Black Friday (and Grace’s mom in NPMD).
Joey Richter is absolutely magnetic! Like whenever he's on screen (not just as Owen, but especially as Owen), you can't take your eyes off him. finally. a musical for the gays.
Didn’t they have a different person play the prince every night? I thought I remembered them saying it was a surprise each performance and one night they brought Diane out (Joey and Lauren’s dog)
They did!
"You don't need to hide behind a 'beard' to-"
Hey so I'm gonna cry

i’ll add it to the list!!

god I love this musical so much it’s not even funny-❤️
This is one of my favorite fringe theatre shows -- stole my whole dang heart. Tragic gay spies forever. ❤ loving your reactions.
Saw this and scram (screamed). My fave musical. My Jewish self hums the barron's songs 24/7 XD
Fun fact, the person playing Susan came out as trans a couple of years ago! She goes by she/her pronouns and her name is Esther!
The prince was played by someone different at each show. I saw it live and i genuinely think they pulled a drunk person off the street for my show. She was so confused and it was hilarious 😂

Sadly you can't really change the credits in the video, but in the description and on the website of TCB names Esther
@@franziskasanders3943 Yeah I know! That's why I emphasized the musical was made before they came out so deadnaming her wasn't intentional
the person who played Susan was actually a trans woman her name is Esther Fallick
ah yeah i remember hearing she transitioned after spies are forever but never got her name. thanks man
It's been fun watching these through again. I hope you continue reacting to Starkid and Tin Can Bros

Our Lovely Susan goes by Esther Fallick now, she came out in 2021.
I love seeing people react to Not So Bad, it's like people are discovering what satire is for the first time
i absolutely LOVE spies are forever so watching your reaction was so fun
Fun fact, during the scene with all the people the Deadliest Man Alive killed. All those pictures were of the kick starter backers
I’m so happy you reacted to Spies are Forever !!! It’s one of my all time favorite musicals and I’m so happy we got to watch it with you :)
All I've got to say is. Live laugh love Susan. It was amazing being in the stream. For anyone new you should do it. One shot ;)
Spies are forever and spies never die, therefore Owen didn't die the first, or the second time (shh, let me believe so) nor did the Informant. Conclusion: Spies are actually immortal
It was so fun to be there on stream this time! It was so fun watching it with everyone
thanks for stopping by!!
it was great stopping to catch some of this stream!
Now you should watch TCB’s next show, “The Solve It Squad Returns”
I Love This Musical. I Also Love Joey Richter. And Lauren Lopez In This.
This is actually my first time sitting down and watching this show, it’ll be very cool to have someone watching along, lol.
Edit: holy crap.
Solve It Squad Returns next!
