Hamilton: *openly admits he slept with another women, in his house, while his wife was away*
Also Hamilton:
At least i was honest with my money?
Being a piece of shit person is better than treason
Hamilton coming through with the “I may be a whore, but I’m no thief, energy”…lol
Hamilton "may have cheated on my wife with several dudes, a woman and probably her sister but, i never exploited my governental position to embezal funds"
For real, Hamilton’s poor wife and kids. The history behind the Reynolds pamphlet is fascinating and I truly do wish there was more concrete stuff on it not gonna lie.
And Peggy
"...And Peggy"
Well, that puts the two characters (Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds) being performed by the same actress in a different light.
Even as late as the 1950s and 1960s, many women were taught to ignore their husband's affairs. The fact that he was so blatant with writing about it and making it so public would have been considered by many wives the real crime. As long as it was mere rumors, they could pretend it never happened. I am not condoning the affairs, just stating how it was for a lot of married couples.
I saw a comment on the original animatic that made me laugh. And wanted to share.
Alex: Angelica!
Alex: The girl I cheated on.
Alex: Her sister.
Alex: She must be here to support me!
All kudos to Intergalactic Cake for this
Shows his Hybris. He sung about it in Hurricane, how confident he is about his smooth talking skills. He thought that he could just "write his way out" and that every woman would be charmed by his words.
"Youve married an Ikarus"
I like Angelica saying "I hope you're satisfied" telling Alexander "I hope you're happy with what you did to my sister"
@cak01vej let’s review, you took a rumour a few, maybe 2 people knew and refuted it in sharing an affair of which no one has accused you
I begged you to take a break you refused to
So scared of what your enemy will do to you
You’re the only enemy you ever seem to lose to
You know why Jefferson can do what he wants?
@cak01vej Ik it was just autocorrect
@cak01vej thanks
Brady should wear an eyepatch every time the bird comes on screen XD
YES!
Well, I read that as 'eyeliner' but yes, agreed.
Photoshop one on his eye
Burn, not my favorite but the transition from Reynold's Pamphlet to Burn is so good and talking about Eliza is kind of important since the story ends with a list of her legacy.
There's a reason why the musical name is "Hamilton" and not "Alexander Hamilton", it talks about both of them 💕
The spiciest of all the songs and yet depressing at the same time :(
The Reynolds Pamphlet aka Hamilton's Oopsie
I think that's one thing Lin did well was made sure to make the musical about the history but not make anyone bigger than human we all have flaws.
It's wierd how the song about him cheating on his wife somehow shows jefferson, madison and burr as the villains in the story
Aren’t they? Not to mention Jefferson and Burr were hypocrites because they had inappropriate relationships 🤨
@@charlottecunningham2141 Jefferson screwed his 14 y/o slave, and Burr had an affair with a married woman. They’re hypocrites no doubt, but I’d say not the villains of Hamilton’s tale rather his opponents.
not villians, antagonists. There's an important distinction there
To me, it seems like his own hubris was part of his downfall as well
0:24 "get into something violent and dumb, like a duel." You want "Blow Us All Away" and "Stay Alive (Reprise)"
Rather than "could" he have been president, hypothetically, if everything worked out well for Hamilton to become the President (ie through the Electoral College), maintaining that level of mistrust by the general public, how would his presidency have done during the Madison years?
Would he be a more effective military commander during the war of 1812? How would he handle the expansion of territory? Would he interfere with Jamaica/St Helen after the Slave Revolt? Would he take a decisive stance for/against slavery or be a gradual reformist over many years?
I don't know, I've seen arguments that the Reynolds affair could have been partly manufactured. The writing analysis from historians are arguing that at least some of Maria's letters appear to be written by Eliza
what historians, may i ask? it doesn't make sense for Eliza to fabricate months worth of her husbands' infidelity , especially since , even though people nor marriages were perfect, and marriage wasn't always treated as the sacred institution, marriage was treated more seriously than it is now. Why would Eliza write something that would destroy her and her families' reputation? that's my opinion though, please clarify if you want.
@@TheCuppycakedelight5 Tilar Mazzeo is one of them. I can't find the other one I was referring to, really should have cited it then this wouldn't have been an issue.
@@royalladybug30 i'm sorry if i was rude. God bless.
I believe he had the affair too. Your piece of crap line had me cracking up! 🤣 My thoughts exactly 💯. Thanks for the video! ❤
We're moving along! I'm excited to see so many of these videos pop up from your channel lately!
I really enjoyed Lin's storytelling of this portion of Hamilton's story on Drunk History as well. xD
I don't know if he actually wanted to run for president, but I think he might have been a decent one.
Next up for Hamilton...

Blow us all away
Stay alive (reprise)
Its Quite uptown
Election of 1800

Hamilton in 7 minutes
I cant wait
He probably wont do 7 Minutes cause its not directly from the musical. He also said hes not doing the Reprise of Stay alive as its own video cause its so short
Then pair with another song
Whenever I hear the hook of this song, it makes me think of how standards for U.S. Presidents has lowered over time.
For Hamilton it was one *alleged* affair, and, “He’s never gonna be president now”, but Presidents like Donald Trump has had confirmed affairs and has sexually harassed women before presidency, and still got the job.
How did standards lower, first of all Brady literally said there was a chance Hamilton could’ve gotten away with this. Also, what about Jefferson he had one and yes it was highly rumored, but that didn’t stop him.
@@nightcrawl47 it’s more of the fact that the recent ones were 100% confirmed while theirs were debated
Joe Biden too so it doesn't seem like I'll get much better from here
@@MaeAlessa yup, and there are probably many more cases of this in our country’s history alone
@@hi_mynameis76 True, true, I really wish America would wake up :(
I watched Hamilton before I was old enough to cover this stuff in school and when I got to Say No To This I felt offended and “betrayed” and I wasn’t even there.
I think the affair was more emotional than it was phsycial
Been waiting for this one! Loved the commentary on this subject.
In general, it seems like Hamilton had a reputation as a kind of Rakish figure for a long time. Of course, the “creole bastard” quote may be the John Adam’s line that gets play in the musical, but arguably his harshest roast of Hamilton was probably “His ambition, his restlessness and all his grandiose schemes come, I'm convinced, from a superabundance of secretions, which he couldn't find enough wh*res to absorb!"
Geez, Adams, you didn’t have to kill him.
The Constitution has a provision that says that every man that was in any of the Thirteen Colonies by the moment the Constitution came into place, regardless of where they were born, was capable of running for office. The restriction come for those that became citizens AFTER the Constitution. Do remember, most of the politicians of the first few decades had been born as english subjects.
Damn 30 seconds ago? Last time I was this early he just started Hamilton xD
What bugs me is how everybody was hunting Hamilton down, for something that literaly Everybody was doing!
How come cheating was socialy accepted and hated at the same time???
If i was in his shoes, i would point that finger right back at Jefferson.
I think it was the fact that Hamilton's affair was a BIG thing back then. Sure, affairs could be happening left and right but this one was the REAL scandal. Jefferson had an affair with a black woman and people could care less about that. I think his wife was also okay with it? I'm not sure.
@@alex-kq6it His wife was dead at that time I think. (I haven't looked this stuff up, so don't take everything I say for granted) Sally Hemmings who Jefferson had an affair with, was the daughter of a slave and apparently the father of Martha Jefferson. So she was her half-sister and later one of Marthas slaves. After Martha died, Sally was now owned by Jefferson. When he became ambassador to France, his slaves came to France with him and that's when Sally's and Jefferson's affair began. Sally was actually 14 at the time I believe. When Jefferson was about to return to America, Sally was pregnant. She was actually a free person in France and could've stayed there to raise the child on her own and was very reluctant to return to Monticello. But Jefferson managed to convince her, saying that their children would be freed when they were 21 years old.
@@katarinakt9521 Damn, poor woman- No, poor GIRL. Sally got manipulated so bad and the biggest irony in this musical is that Jefferson is played by a black man.
@@alex-kq6it not gonna lie, the musical made me forget that everyone was white
I know James Monroe was one of the actual three to confront Hamilton, at least, that's what Lin said on Drunk History, so I would imagine he gossiped to Jefferson and that's what I like to think happened.
Based on how impulsive Hamilton apparently was, I think we had a (albeit amplified) idea of what a Hamilton administration would be like back in 2017.
You're not going to do Burn? cause I think it was very clever of Lin Manuel Miranda how he handled our lack of knowledge of how Eliza actually reacted to the Reynolds Pamphlets
I don't know if you've reacted to First Burn as well as canon Burn, but if you haven't, you may find it interesting to draw comparisons.
Could you react to Monsieur Z’s “7 Ages of America and the presidents behind them”
I love your vids 🖤🖤
Hate to break it to you, but there are still 11-12 songs to go. I say 11-12, because one of them is Best of Wives, Best of Women and I don't really know what you can say about that.
Also Hurricane isn't part of the playlist. Is it possible for you to add it after the fact? I don't mind watching this playlist without the song, but if it's possible, I'd appreciate it.
ahh the lion king reference in the animatic😢
Could you please cover burn? It would be great to hear your take on it ❤
It's next
2:21 Oh, you're giving fanfic writers ideas. (Actually is political slander a form of fanfiction?).
Social Stud can you do a Historians reacts to Ted-Ed History On Trial episode History Vs Augustus.
The song that nearly everyone sang when everyone learned what Trump did in Iraq
I'm doing a history class and we have the do a project and we get to choose who or what we do it on and I've chosen to do my project on Eliza
lol good luck accounting for the lack of info tho
