How to Root an Aloe | Faster Root Development!

  • I have always rooted aloe cuttings in soil. I was successful but depending on weather conditions, waiting for roots to develop sometimes takes a month or even more. Small cuttings usually die before they develop roots. Here is a new method that I learned that makes aloes root faster. The process may take a little longer for hard and woody aloe stems. Sometimes, experimenting with our plants gives surprising results!

      I’m having a good week, but I don’t like the cold weather. 🥶 Some snow is forecasted here next week. Time to bring out the plant blankets. 😉 I hope your weather is better than ours.

      Yes, thank you Lyn for the tip. Your video was very timely. These cuttings were out for weeks as I got too busy to do some repotting. All I had to do was place them in water! Haha. That’s a very convenient and helpful trick that you discovered, Lyn. Thank you again. 😃👍🏼

    Thanks, this came just in time because my aloe plant needs to be repotted and I need to cut the roots off since it is leaning too much. I will try rooting it in water after a week.😊

    Hello Anna, I've been watching your channel for a couple of months now. My wife went back to her home country over the summer and while she was away I got bored and started buying and killing, not on purpose, cactus and succulents. I too live in Las Vegas, NV., and work in the casinos. Some day if the moon and stars line up I'd love to come by your place and check out your cactus and succulent collection. I've been doing the rounds, Lowe's, Home Depot and Star Nursery trying to find cactus that I don't have and started buying cactus and succulents online. Recently I purchased Astrophytum Capricorne (spell check) online only to stumble upon the same plant at the 99 Cent Store, WTF? Check out the 99 Cent Store as you might find some cactus and succulents you won't find in the major nurseries we have in this town, take care, Steve.

      @CactusCaffeine  Рік тому

      99c store sells plants now?! Wow, I didn’t know that. Time for me to check them out soon. ☺️ It’s nice that you found cactus as a hobby. Cactus (and succulents in general) are tough as long as you don’t drown them. It’s a good beginner plant for newbies. Happy growing and hope you get lots of flowers in spring!

    So glad to see you back on UA-cam Ana. We missed you. My Crassula Silver Dollar was doing the same thing, not rooting in soil. The water therapy worked but she is now struggling to grow in soil. Gave it a tug yesterday and seems to be making slow but steady progress. On your Aloe, wouldn't the one rotted leaf foul the water? Let us know how it turned out.

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  Рік тому +1

      Oh, I cut off the rotted leaf later on. Yes, any dried or rotten leaf should be removed to keep the water clean longer. So far, the aloes are still doing good in soil. No new growth yet but it hasn’t shrunk in size either. 🙂

    how do you maintain your aloes stress color? do they usually color up when it's cold?

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  Рік тому

      Cold + sunlight. I found out that both are needed to bring out the colors. Cold will start changing their color but they become more vibrant when exposed to sunlight.

    I have never been able to grow Aloe Vera. I have several other types of Aloe plants that do well but the Aloe Vera I just never have success with.
    What kind of soil do you use? I have tried using soil that has a lot of drainage material and I have also tried using less drainage material. They end up dying on me either way!

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  Рік тому

      Aloe Vera do well in tropical climates. Therefore, the closer to a tropical environment you give it, the better. They do not like extreme temperatures. They will appreciate more water than regular aloes. Avoid prolonged intense sun exposure. Hope these help. ☺️
