I’m just now seeing this and now I want an Aloe plant! Thanks a lot! 😂. No really, I always overwatered my plants and killed them but now I’m trying it all again! This time with a chunky light well draining mix! I will give an Aloe another go! I do miss them! I can’t wait to get mine tomorrow.

Thank you. I just seperated my huge aloe vera plant today. It is a plant that has been in my family for decades. I have never separated it before. I put some, not all of the 'babies' in some pots with potting soil. I pray they will survive. I have them in a 'cool' place and the soil is a bit wet right now; so I will not water for a while I suppose. Thank you.. thumbs up!
Thank you for this video! When I took care of the aloe, it looked sad. When I neglected it, it thrived. I sprayed it with water maybe once a month and now I have so many pups which is what led me to this video. I’ll be giving it a try.

@@HarmonyHillsHomeandGarden Your most welcome, I’ve since Subscribed to your channel…Is it correct that Aloe Vera or any Succulent slows down growth in Winter? I’m hoping now I have bought some correct soil I will see some difference.
Thank you for this very helpful video. You've encouraged me to tackle my own aloe vera. Hopefully, my repotting will be a success. Thanks again for your time.
I have an Aloe Vera plant that is now a grandmother and I’ve had her for a good 15 years. She’s huge and I actually had cut her off of her stalk two summers ago, let the cut callous over and replanted her. She rooted herself back into the new dirt and I left the old stalk, which grew babies off of it!! She had babies about five years ago and now those babies are having babies (hence my saying she’s a grandmother!)! I actually use the feeling of the leaves as to determine when to water her. If the leaves are feeling firm and thick, she’s good. When I’m able to squeeze them, or they look floppy, she needs water. As far as fertilizer, last year was the first time I gave them any, and I just gave them some Liquid Dirt and Super Thrive. I just found a succulent fertilizer on Amazon that I’m going to try next year. For soil, I use a cactus soil and mix in pumice and orchid bark. Sometimes I buy Bonsai Jack Succulent mix and add that in as well. Will you be doing any more houseplant videos? I just found your channel from this video. I’m disabled and unable to do outside gardening but I have a large houseplant collection and enjoy caring for them. Those babies will be well loved by their recipients - such great gifts! Thank you for sharing! 💜💚🪴🌵

Man, imma one up you here. When I moved into my house 16 years ago, I went to Home Depot and bought some coconut fiber - you know, those 169 bowl sizes? I had a BUNCH of aloe that I just stuck into soil because that’s what my Nana taught me, aloe-soil, you know..l that’s what aloe needs. Fast forward 16 years for this poor creature. STILL ALIVE. I’ve watered it… not joking…. Maybe once a year. It’s been in partially sunny and then very, very shaded parts of my house. Last year a part of it bloomed in the dark. Pretty sure it’s been surviving on humidity and spite alone. Currently repotting everything (main stalk and pups) into a more beneficial place. With…. A major hunk load being tossed in the trash as desiccated plant matter. I have faith this creature will survive the apocalypse. I think if any window in my house should break, with the natural air humidity…. My braven child - go forth and populate. You are a survivor!
Thanks! After watching your video i think i am going to depot and separate all of the little babies then go shop for the right size containers and soul. 💜
Thanks for the awesome tips! My aloe vera is growing lots of babies and I just left them to grow in the existing big pot. After some time some babies just fell out. I was not sure how to repot them, afraid to hurt the roots. After watching your video, you have given very clear instructions. Will try to do it! Thanks so much. Btw my main aloe vera was thrown away by a neighbour for more than a year too. I watered it once in awhile and decides to adopt it, give it a nice pot. After taking care of it, babies popped up. ❤

Thank you so much for a great informative video, I have two pots of overgrown aloe vera plants and didn't know how to separate them not to mention that they are spikey and crowded in the pot. I was dreading to handling them, they're spikey and hard to handle! I guess I'll wear gloves and newspaper to wrap them and avoid their spikes. I truly appreciate ur easy explanation and handling of them. I live in Florida and had the plants for over a year and they have grown out greatly, this winter the poor plants froze and looked sad, thought I will loose them but I trimmed the frozen sections and it's healing itself nicely and they're ready to be repotted. Now I know how to do it correctly! Thanks again! 👍❤️
Very good informative video! How did the big mother plant do after you cut her roots down? I have to do this with my big momma aloe and I'm nervous!! She's made me 100+ pups!!
You just saved my aloe vera babies. 💖 I made the huge mistake of watering them right after I cut them from their mama and trimmed a few leaves (worse: I put them in a large glass of water, because I had no soil at hand to replant them). The leaves at the bottom rot, and kept rotting even after I put them in soil (because I watered them again... ) but the top is salvageble still. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing. I like the idea of the green container. I never thought of such a brilliant idea. I love your soft voice and mannerisms. It is a pleasure to be in your planting area. 😊
Believe it or not, I killed a aloe plant. My friend said, "here is a aloe plant, there is no way for you to kill it". Well, she was wrong. I guess I over watered it. She got me another one for Christmas that just passed and it's flourishing. That's what brought me to your video. Thanks for all the information on re-potting.
Thanks for a lovely, informative video! as a further tip (that I've seen on other videos I'm watching on this topic ;) ): you can add some rocks/gravel on top of the soil to help prevent the tipping over :) p.s. It would also be interesting to see an update from a week/month later, if that were an option :)

Well I haven't spoken with the gals at work about the plants, but I was sure succesful killing every one of my plants.....so sad... I'm trying again. Bought a few at Home Depot. I saw maybe I had too much dry soil and I tried to let the wounds heal up before transplanting. I may have gone too long there leaving them out. We'll see if this girl can be successful this time around. I had some pretty plants too......dang! I can't believe I'm the last comment last time too lol. I will be in touch when I find out one way or another.....
To each their own but I throw out old soil; especially stuff that is past two years old. There are no nutrients left in that soil by then. I also add worm castings into my soil mix as a fertilizer. I killed my first Aloe Vera. I don’t think that I had enough perlite in the soil and I probably overwatered it. The poor thing put out a baby before it died though. I still have that baby years later. I just repotted it a few days ago. I hope that it doesn’t mind! It has grown a lot. I put perlite in my succulent soil (even the kind that is labeled succulent and/or cactus mix), usually they never have enough drainage material in them even though they are supposed to be mixed properly for cacti and succulents. I also mix pumice into my succulent/cactus soil. It lasts so much longer than perlite and works better, too. I’ve been getting some really poor quality perlite lately no matter what brand I buy. It is mostly powder! I know most people say that Aloe Vera is easy to grow. Must be my house conditions are not favorable for Aloe Vera. I find it to be a fussy plant even when I ignore it. I have other types of Aloe plant and many different types of succulents that I have no problem with. Aloe Vera just does not like it here. If you notice people who grow Aloe Vera in tropical areas when they repot it appears that they have regular soil with very little drainage material in it that they grow their Aloe Vera plants in. They grow big beautiful plants but they have very sandy soil. That makes a big difference. You don’t see it but they have sandy soil in many areas. Apparently Aloe Vera love that. I don’t know what the sand to soil ratio is. I tried just adding sand to my soil mix and it did not go over well with my plant. I still add some sand by I use at least half perlite and pumice. So far it is working well.
Great Video. I recently bought and Potted an Aloe Vera Plant. The Mother Plant seems to be thriving. Although I used a normal potting mix rather than a Cactus/Succulent Mix since I wasn't aware of it. Would my Plant still be OK? Also, there is one leaf at base of the Mother plant that is sort of rotten and mushy. However, I'm sort of worried about removing that Leaf since there's a very tiny pup right next to the Leaf and I don't want to damage the Pup in the Process. Could you give me some Advice? I'm from Southern Ontario, Canada and I've got my Aloe indoors right by the Window. We don't really get Great Weather most of the times though at the moment we're enjoying our Spring/Summers. Wait, what happened to the good root system on the main aloe. And did it survive/regrow roots after you completely cut the stem and roots off?!
No, it was a sacrifice to the aloe gods. but we got a lot of great offshoots and such, so the original mama plant did her job well.
Cool
What do you do with all of those larger leaves that you cut off? Can you store the leaves in the refrigerator in a bag to use for medicinal purposes?
I'm not sure! I think I tried to root them, failed at that, and then tossed them onto the compost pile.
Just curious, if you poot the root system with the little bit of green, would you get more PUPS from those roots?
I did try that, but it didn't survive. 🙁
Squeeze the gel out of the old leaves you clip off and put it into a glass jar into your refrigerator for usage when you need it
❤❤❤
Is it the edible variety that you have?
I don't know, sorry.
Can you regrow broken Aloe leaves?
i always water mine before i remove them to repot, much eaiser
What is the purpose of cutting mother roots off?
What do you do with the leaves that you cut out? Can you propagate from them?
I'm not exactly sure. I tried propagating them and it didn't work, but I probably did it wrong.
I have cuttings with no stem or node attached how (an if) could I try and get roots, H-E-L-P, txs🤗
Hm, I'm not sure! I don't know a whole lot about succulents, but maybe a google search would be helpful?
