I think the worst thing about Felicity’s death is she was a housepet. Probably a very loved one too.
Imagine, coming home and finding your beloved cat like that.
You would find many dead humans if someone laid a hand on my cats

OH MY WORD! You made me laugh. Thanks. :D
It's always surprising but nice to find some good clean humor in a UA-cam comment section.

but satisfaction brought it back.
Francis is most curious, it almost killed him
More like curiosity killed the human.
What Felicity meant by - “I’m not blind, I just can’t see.” - Is that she cannot see the world around her, but she’s not blind-minded about it. In short, she doesn’t see around her, but she knows what’s going on.
Makes sense now!!
Her whiskers are basically her eyes so she's not blind really even without her eyes
Pythons have a reverse set of whiskers.
I Know Right.
This makes so much sense now

To those are little confused, Claudandis is the older cat that calls himself Pascale. Claudandis was heavily experimented by humans. When The main scientist funding for the experiment dropped, he went mad, to which Claudandis kill his tormenter and escaped.
Claudandis then learned about genetics and wanted to the genus of Felidae back to an ancient and Egyptian genus. The cat that Francis mates with is likely one of the kittens that Claudandis sired during his time with the mad scientist and he wanted specific tomcats to mate with her and killed off other tomcats to preserve the racial purity of that kittens that would be born.
Claudandis hates humans because of what was done to him, so he basically wants to create a race of super cats with his genetics (cause he himself is a mutant) and get back at humans. However he develops stomach cancer (likely a result from the all experiments done on him) and wants to Francis to continue his work, which likely why he lets Francis mates with the Egyptian cat.
But Francis, having more sense and being disgusted with Claudandis methods ultimately fights him and puts an end to Claudandis schemes.
I feel bad for him cause of the torture he went through. And all those other cats had marks and scars from what they went through too. :(.
You know cats think they will kill us all. That’s irony.
How isn't this talked about more? It's literally one of the best animated films I've seen. The mature stuff was handled very well and the story overall is beautiful
Because the original movie is German, Americans usually don’t explore non American movies or books like these, they are truly underrated
Couple of reasons
1. It was never given a wider release. It was dubbed, as we can see here, presumably so it could reach a bigger market but it never got a proper release outside of Germany. So far it’s never been released on home video in the rest of the western world outside of some European countries. The movie also did poorly at the box office and sunk without a trace fairly quickly
2. It’s animated which turns a lot of people off too. Regardless of the content, the sex and the violence and the dark themes, it’s still seen as a simple cartoon by a lot of people which limits the audience
3. It’s incredibly graphic at times which again limits whatever audience it might have
4. Regardless of how good the movie is, not everyone is going to be interested in watching an animated noir film about German cats trying to catch a serial murderer who wants to preserve genetic purity and create a master race of felines
meh its okay 😒

I watched this when I was a teenager, I knew how special it was back then and I'm glad I felt like watching it again. This is such a special movie. So earnest in being an _adult_ animated movie, (without acting like it was made by 14 year-olds who have a very shallow idea of what "mature content" means, western animation is still fighting that reputation), adapted from an adult novel, while ALSO being earnest about being an animated movie in general. The designs are so good. The animation quality is exceptional, given when it was made and it being a non A-lister studio. It's kind of a big deal in the animation world that I don't think gets enough recognition, even though I can see this upload has done so well on views! It's a dense(it doesn't even spell out _everything_ going on), but thoughtful, and ultimately optimistic story, despite how much it really is 100% a gritty noir flick with as much violence and fornication as that entails. We can all see how special that is. We can all hope more animation like this could eventually grace our world.
(Really, when is Saberspark going to finally talk about this movie.)
While I was younger, and trying to learn German, I even imported a copy of the original untranslated novel. Though, as it's an adult novel, it was way too much for me ^^" But I still have it.

Hi
it's animated cats, not real humans.
And how Pascal snakes his way into Francis' head, and makes him think every idea is his own. The predator can rely on brute force, but the real hunter is that who enjoys the hunt.
Is it just me or did the death of Felicity kinda hit the hardest?

As dark and shocking as this film is, it’s not just shock value for the sake of it. It’s smartly used as a visual punctuation to the intense themes of the story. This is, without any irony, a genuinely thought provoking and brilliant animated film.

So funny you say this, I asked for a cat encyclopedia as well as a kid and that is how I learned about the movie when I was young. Then a friend told me about it in middle school and I watched it and realized it was the same one I saw in the book! Glad I'm not the only one who found out about it that way.

I have that book too, and I also found out about Felidae from there.
If you enjoy this movie at all, I would highly recommend the book. The movie doesn't do a bad job at telling the story, but it doesn't do a great job, either. A lot of the plot holes that aren't explained in the movie are explained in the book. I loved the book when I first read it. It relates quite a lot to the Holocaust and Germany's history. The book does have a message to it, which is explained a few times: "Evil always flourishes when it can count on well-meaning ignorance."
Does it have the same name?? I would love to read it! I need to have it
@@ryu2985I believe so
Apparently the author's a right-wing Islamophobic chud, so the book is a bit hard to find. Like, he really, really sucks. He made a speech or something for the political movement "Pegida," or Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the West. As you might be able to tell, it's a right-wing anti-Islam extremist movement that wants to stop Muslim immigration into Germany. The founder of Pegida, Lutz Bachmann, is a racist with an extensive criminal history, including 16 burglaries, assault, and being a cocaine dealer. He also dressed up as Hitler once, was convicted of incitement of racial hatred, accused an innocent Muslim man of murder even though he wasn't even a suspect, and was deported from the UK for concern for the public good and being a convicted drug trafficker.
To be clear, all of that is about the founder of Pegida, not the author of Felidae. The author of Felidae is Akif Pirinçci, and he made a speech in support of Pegida, the political movement founded by an ultra-racist criminal. Akif Pirinçci has been criticized for his contact with right-wing extremist organizations, to which he said, "I don't give a flying fuck if people call me a Nazi, I don't give a damn." He was sued and found liable for defamation by a professor of sociology and biology, whom he called a "mentally sick, manic queer with a screw loose." In the infamous speech he made for Pegida, he said a lot of racist shit. Supposedly, the most notable quote according to Wikipedia where I'm getting all of this was, "Unfortunately, the concentration camps are out of order at the moment!" This was in reference to his idea that the critics of the Pegida movement want to put its members in concentration camps. Typical right-wing persecution complex. Now, this seems especially hearsay to me, but supposedly he was so offensive during this speech that the crowd actually booed him off stage.
Obviously, after that his publishers severed all ties with him and refused to sell his books. Amazon Germany delisted all of his books and book sellers and book stores refused to order his books. This has been called censorship, but naw, he sucks. Don't give this asshole any money. Also, these are private businesses that can do whatever they want with their money, and they choose not to support him.
I've gotta say, even if the author sucks, it is a pretty good book. If you want to read it, it seems somewhat implausible to get a secondhand physical copy and I doubt there's an e-book. I can't even find it on Amazon, which makes sense considering all of the previous. Also, I wouldn't want to give him money anyway. However, it is available for free on Internet Archive, you just have to sign up for an account to borrow it. I just can't fathom how this guy wrote this book. Maybe I'll have more answers when I actually finish it.
Edit:
I finished the book and have more thoughts. So, the book does seem decidedly anti-eugenics. Francis points out how Claudandus's goal of breeding a race of wild cats to form an army strong enough to kill all humans and enslave the entire world is just replacing humans with basically-humans. It's the same folly that Claudandus hates humanity for: thinking themselves to be superior to all other animals and placing themselves at the top. The prevailing theme that Francis spells out in the end is that humans and cats are both animals, both good and evil, and should respect each other for that. Francis even throws out the idea of a future where all animals are equal and live in harmony.
Now, that seems somewhat out of character to me considering Francis's utter disdain for all of the other animal species present in the book. Humans are stupid, evil, etc. etc. -- specifically, this exact sentence (I paraphrased, it's not that exact sentence) is said by Francis in the first chapter, and Claudandus in the last. Francis sees rats as awful in every way and believes they're trying to take over the world. But whatever, he loves his human Gustav despite thinking very little of him, so I guess it's not too farfetched. Francis and Claudandus are very much presented as two sides of the same coin, expect for the fact that Francis doesn't really hate humans.
All of that being said, it's difficult for me to reconcile all of that with the fact that the author apparently blames Muslims for all of Germany's problems. Yeah, no, I'm having a hard time believing that he was the same person while writing the book and when he made that speech. 10 years is a long time, it's not hard to imagine that an old man could be radicalized by the conditions of his country and desperately try to find something to blame. For him, it seems to be Muslims and the religion of Islam. How unfortunate. From where I stand, I see only a small portion of that pattern of thought in the book Felidae. It's the rats, of course. Despite Francis's later expression of equality for all animals, earlier in the book he makes clear that he sees mice as inferior, dirty, harbingers of diseases such as the Black Death (of course, a Google search suggests that it actually wasn't the rats, but that's besides the point) who populate all corners of the Earth in an attempt to take over completely.
I think in a different context, that would read as just a joke to me. Cats hunt rats, therefore Francis hates rats and hunts them. But in the context of the author's Islamophobia, it just puts a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe he meant it as a joke at the time that he wrote it, but it just feels like foreshadowing now. Ugh, I don't know. Sometimes humans change so drastically that you'd have to wonder if they've read their own books, and I suppose that's the end of it.
I actually just read the book, that’s why I’m watching the movie now.

I’m not surprised that Francis is smarter than most cats because he knows how to read and understand human language.
It’s actually implied in the book that most cats learn to read human language - they just don’t all regularly read for knowledge’s sake.
To anyone who doesn't understand:
Claudandus was experimented on for years until he killed his tormentor, he then decided to try to create the same breed of cat from ancient times to overthrow humans but everytime an unworthy tom tried to mate with the females, he had to kill the toms and if the female got pregnant, he had to kill them as well. Francis found out who Claudandus was and killed him for his horrible crimes but he ended up mating with one of the females which means he did what Claudandus wanted regardless but unlike Claudandus, Francis has no reason to overthrow humans, therefore he didn't care and continued his life.

I can't thank you enough for uploading this wonderful gem of a movie! I've enjoyed this movie through the years again and again, love how their are no ads. It truly is a great piece of work.
This movie would benefit from a remake. I want to know more about that little kitten who spoke up at the meeting, why pregnant cats were being killed, and how no one knew about that temple.
Pregnant cats being killed is semi explained, at least in the book. They were the modern breed of cats, and bred with modern breed, so they were considered a "problem" and were killed before they contributed to the lines.
Pregnant cats who die are expecting felidae half breed kittens
The little kitten is pepeline and I love her so much 💗
But, they would slaughter the movie if they remaked it. Sadly, people are softer these days and would not make it the same.
Read the book then. This is based off a book.
Or just make sequel movies to Felidae. There were 7 more books that served as sequels for the first one so they can be basis and source materials for these sequel movies. Now that would be far more beneficial than a remake. Imagine the animated sequel movies being r rated just like this movie but with newer modern day animation!
I love this. It’s like someone’s reading a book. But there’s actual good animation

One of the brillant things about the antagonist of the film is he has a point. A lot of people dont know this for many years stray cats were often hunted down and shot. Some were used in medical expeirments like lab rats too in europe.
So he's a stray cat that became self aware of what his kind went through, and decided all domestication needs to die so they return to being wild animals again.
This back in forth about how much a cat really is a pet or still a wild animal that acts on its own accord has been debated for years and its interesting to see how the film tackles it. Concluding cats have a place alongside men as dogs do.
Amazing story board with all the characters! Very disturbing scenes but still amazing!
Can anyone really blame Claudandus for being a bit, well twisted. Any cat or animal who went through that would be the same.
Probably one of my most favorite movies I have ever watched
The fact that Aristocats was recommended under this…
This movie absolutely rocks! Great story and fantastic animation. It's definitely NOT a kids movie but as a fantasy film it ranks right up there with 'Watership Downs' or the best of Bashki.
Yeah, the new Watership down is really toned down but it's meh
Oh man watership down is exactly what I thought of when I watched this movie!
This gave me Warriors flashbacks, especially the last part where Francis killed Claudandus. It’s just like when Scourge killed Tigerstar.
That’s exactly what i thought.
I've heard somewhere, this scene was inspo for that
If they wanted to deliver a message they really did a good job. Really glad though I wasn’t born way back to see this at a kids age.
Old animation always gets me nostalgic for some reason
Felecia's was the kindest and blindest cat on the block and was killed the most brutally. I really wish she hadn't died...
No she was not killed the most brutally Solitare was
@@2111ah yeah only she died,
Then murdered an intire FUXKING FAMILY
okay but why is nobody talking about the tape scene?? like that shit had me more scared and invested than the fnaf franchise ever has... especially because of his progressively more drunken voice, and that pan with the dissected cat.
I was just thinking that....animal testing really can be cruel..
yeah it was so fucked
It honestly made me cry bc I’m an animal rights activist and I’m highly against animal cruelty and the fact that it started possibly since the 18th century this is why it’s important to protest about these things, because animals don’t deserve pain they’re are sentimental beings
Gives me The Plague Dogs vibes.
I honestly still dont understand the scene entirely. Like what were they trying to do exactly? What was this Felidae experiment/project about? What was the goal?
Kong looks like he consumed an entire plant pot which got stuck in his back.
BRO I DIDNT KNOW HE WAS A CAT I THOUGHT HE WAS A MYTHICAL CREATURE
Poor felicity, she wasn’t even able to defend herself because of her blindness
Me: Mom, can I get warrior cats?
Mom: No, we have warrior cats at home
Warrior cats at home:
This is a good movie though
Too many comments about Warrior cats, smh.
@@jammy1679 and??
Damn, didn’t know "warrior cats" at home are better than the actual "warrior cats".
@@sergeybauman1 don’t compare them ffs, the only elements are the fact they’re fictional cat stories.
as a 90s pup this actually got me interested for the art and symbolism. it so cute to try the cat behaviors for the movie. however this film needed alot of work with script writing...it wasnt said well. i understand because i seen movies showing how bad animal testing is and how villains become villians. it very much like the plague dogs... i respect this film for what it trying to send as messages and the different forms of pyschology with all the characters... abuse...also shows how it repeats...it sickeningly drilled in our minds to become there experiment of successs....it a sad film but needed more work for sure.
,,im not blind I just can't see'' this is deep
This was actually a really good -kinda fuked up though- movie
it is, I agree
Kryonix Wolfy LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
Wolf Girl7500 lol indeed
I let my intrusive thoughts win and decided to watch the movie. The scene where Francis meets the golden and black molly set off so many red flags in my head. ALSO FELICITY WILL NOT BE MISSED I LOVED HER SO MUCH EVEN THO SHE HAD LIKE 5 MINUTES OF SCREEN TIME 😭😭😭
That one cat who was beheaded reminded me of when I was 7 I found a grey cat who had no head it looked as if someone did that to the poor thing then dumped it into a river...
I just enabled the age restriction. (June 10, 2016)
It must get really annoying getting all these comments about how violent this movie is, its a personal favorite to mine since the truth and honesty behind it
i showed my friend this and he is now disturbed by cats >.
I have had cats before, they are vicious and disturbing as hell. They each has human like personalities too. Disturbing cartoon film but not bad.
Did u make this they say s## so many times
Does this movie have a chance of getting taken down for copyright? Because I don't want that to happen.
Why am i watching this. I can't stop.😭
SAME
Damn this film was absolutely amazing. It was fascinating and I honestly really enjoyed it, it’s definitely no kids movie and doesn’t deserve to be viewed as one.
Felicity is what i imagined Bluestar to look like.
Francis reminds me of Tallstar
Bluebeard is a mix of Deadfoot and Crookedjaw.
Kong reminds me of Brokentail
Claudandis is like Tigerstar/claw
Imagine being ziebold and coming home to find your house burned down and your elderly cat disemboweled.
Felicity looks like bluestar mixed with jayfeather
Dove's Wing
Yep
xD
They even narrate the movie like the story!
True
Dove's Wing lmao
Francis was born in the lab like many of the neighborhood cats. He was first treated as a subject before given a home. This is why he is so intelligent and why he saw Mendel in his dreams. He saw the scientist read from the book of genetics and most likely watched a documentary on him. Kahn was also born in the lab and subjected to horrific experiments that left him, Blue Beard and Hisiah disfigured.
No joke, I highly suspect my own cat is the product of eugenic experimentation. Knowing my crazy aunt (she was the one who bred him and gave him to me for a birthday present), and some of the stuff for which she got in trouble with the law regarding her other animals...
Rember when youtube had this set for kids lol
That yellow she-cat honestly creeps me out more than anything else in this movie, even the gore stuff.
Not in a "creepy-scary" way, but more just...unsettling. something about her voice and her weirdly antagonistic way she talks to Francis. Her voice itself sounds strangely "otherworldly", the way I imagine a female demon would sound, and the fact that she's a fucking animal basically saying "my name doesn't matter, shutup and do me some more" just disturbs me in a really weird way.
I call this movie
"Warrior cats on drugs for adults"
Perfect
Literally
That is just what this movie is lol🤣
Omg stop comparing this to Warrior Cats!!! It’s a great book series and it’s kid friendly! Sure cats die but it is part of life!
@@crazylady9059 then why don’t they show this movie to kids if it’s "part of life” for cats to die-
2023 anyone??? I love this movie
Same; it's one of the first adult animations I ever watched
I watched this when I was a lot younger......I came back and nearly cried
They screw then he goes "whats ur name" WTF?
ikr xD srsly
+themysterywolfo3o Aj cats are way ahead of our generation haha

CAT PHYSICS
This is what cats do when we aren't looking.
matthew zinnecker Holy...XD
I refuse to denie that the Erins didn't took inspiration from this for Tigerstar's death
haha wow there the small just caus a cats organs are spilled!!!
The fact that Kong backed outta getting into a fight with two cats just proves he's full of hot air.
Man I can't express how much I love this fxcking movie I've watched it like a hundred times
a warning to new watchers:
the writer of the original felidae books is a nazi.
some of his views bleed into the movie, which is 😬.
do not support him or his work. since this movie is on youtube for free, i dont think he gains any money from it.
you may separate art from artist but be critical about it.
Yeah, that fact adds a whole new level of disturbing to the film. I love Felidae but I'll never buy it on DVD - I'm not supporting a Neo-Nazi.
34:20 Wow, putting acid on wounds makes them burn? Who'd have thought?
xD
Mary McCann maybe it would of worked if it was a Xenomorph
Odd magic
Wowwww never become a scientist:p
it's a little frustrating how the themes and messages of this film have gone completely over folks heads because you're all too busy comparing it to warrior cats. other than having talking cats and murder the two aren't even remotely similar. this story was clearly inspired by the genocide during the nazi era, it deals with the concept of eugenics and ethnic cleansing. i know warrior cats has those themes too but lets not kid ourselves, it did not remotely handle them well. nothing in that book series is handled or written well. i get tired seeing these deep, profound animated movies get boiled down to "violent animal films" and "wow this is like warrior cats but-" people constantly kept doing this to watership down and now felidae. it's a little tone deaf honestly.
Crazy that there's little acknowledgement/perception (thus far in the comments I've read) of the seemingly-obvious theme of Nazism/eugenics/the Holocaust as well as Christianity (crucifixes, messiah, prophecies, evangelical preacher, etc.). "Francis" is likely a reference to St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, ecology, and merchants, or a heck of a coincidence. Pascal -> Pascal's Wager? Cat/human hybrid sphinx -> man/god Jesus figure? Going to have to watch again, as there are probably more metaphors, allegories, etc. that I missed.
I watched this movie thinking it was some sort of movie for kids, I was wrong. But now I’m obsessed with it and bought 3 of the books.
