I love how childlike anne and andy seem, anne sounding out words and andy having the “i’m not girly!!” Attitude with “no girls toy” and also them just caring for each other during the whole movie, looking out for each other n whatnot, thats not necessarily a childlike only attribute but it’s certainly noticeable in children, esp holding hands, they’re so sweet
Same. I was born in the late 90s, but I really enjoy the movie. I have a lot for older animations and video games, most of them came out before I was born. It does make me think of my childhood though since my grandmother made some Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls when I was little. I still have them.
"Acid trip" of a movie or not, it never fails to baffle me just how much of a marvel of animation this is. The animation Richard Williams and his team did for this film is nothing short of breathtakingly spectacular.
how adorable. Andy was the star of the show for me, his voice was just so cute and charming, just like his sister's. Andy's charm also makes me think of Donald O'Connor
For anyone wondering, yes, Ragatha is confirmed to be based on Raggedy Ann. Gooseworx (the creator of The Amazing Digital Circus) has repeatedly said that this movie is their favorite.
I may have been born in the times where Ann and Andy dolls are 'creepy'.. but this? this reminds me that there were kids that found genuine comfort in them. I love Andy so much, I hope one day I could get dolls of them.
I loved this movie as a kid. I loved how weird it was, and the freedom of expression the film portrayed totally opened my limited world at the time; I was a young kid living with an abusive parent and this movie brought me an escape. I find it hilarious that people in the seventies, when this film was made, didn’t appreciate it at all, in fact, it had been stated that this film disturbed children. Lol
I did not grow up with this but I enjoyed watching the movie. And why some children found it disturbing was probably because of all the crazy in the movie. Falling Into what first I thought was a mud pit was the domain of a gluttonous abomination that hunger could not be satisfied. Although the children should have not been creeped out about it, heck didnt they have those disney movies and all?
It got more play in the early 80s, when the Disney Channel first appeared on cable. It was in constant rotation, shown multiple times a week. This gave it enough lift I remember it was shown as a primetime movie on one of the big three networks. A Chuck Jones produced special with the same characters appeared after, sometime in the mid-80s. I've seen the Chuck Jones special floating around here on UA-cam.

for a whopping 16 SONGS and a film that is so incredibly surreal, every song is so remarkable. I loved no girls toy as a kid and i considered putting it in my playlist lol
This is such a beautiful movie! I´m a 2000's girl so I didn't knew this existed. It has Alice in Wonderland and Toy Story vibes. I´m impressed of how smooth and realistic the animation is. Love Ann's voice, so calm and cute💕
Richard Williams is a great animator and animation director. I really wish he was given the budget and time to really see the whole way through producing his vision for RA&A and The Thief And The Cobbler. These movies both have excellent animation! I love how the animators are given star-like billing in the opening credits for this movie, telling who animated which characters.
And the opening credits are so cute too! Normally im bored with the credits but with the way they put so much effort in the opening credits alone is worth watching.
I have only heard of this film through people saying how bizarre it is. My question: How did I not know this was so gorgeous?? Its animated, written and voice-acted with SO much LOVE. Definitely a spectacle in a way more beautiful way than I was expecting
I'm in my late 50s and I remember watching this in the theaters in 77 with my two younger sisters and I thought it was lame as a pre teen boy, but over the years I fell in love with the story and score written by the ever so talented house Joe Reposo that I watched it with my two daughters and now loved watching my 3 granddaughters love this.
Blue camel became my spirit animal when I first saw this in the 70’s as a kid and definitely hits solid now I’m in my 50’s. ‘Low down saggy and rag bag baggy’ ❤😂
I love how wholesome the sibling relationship ragedy ann and andy has especially after andy ranting he is no girls toy yet soft when it comes to his sister.
I was -25 years old when this released and grew up without knowing it existed. I also used to be terrified of the Raggedy Ann doll. This movie in a single watch became one of my faves and made me absolutely cherish Ann. This film, especially, just has some amazing designs, and it's hard not to love all the personality and emotion of the characters, as well as the voice acting.
If there were plushies based on the models of this film I'm 100% sure they would look MUCH cuter and less creepy or chibi and simple kinda like the sanei all star plushies they do for video game characters
“No Girls Toy” has to be the SMOOTHEST animation I’ve seen in a while 😮 (Not Andy just going on a rant about how he’s “no girls toy” while doing the most effeminate hip swings)
I'm not sure. Did you see the thief and the cobbler in the last 20 or 15 minutes. If you like smooth animation, you're going to love that, especially when the one-eyes are showing off their boots and weapons - pure euphoria.
I like how the toys act like they are toys I mean like how when ann and andy fall they fall like how a ragdoll would, since they are ragdolls. Idk it's just interesting. Also the voice acting in here is perfect I love Ann and Andy's voices
The movie was so sweet and gentle. The songs were so catchy and I seem to can't stop repeating them! When I first watched this, it reminded me of Toy story, just a bit older. And the thing they both share is they both pretty much have the same plot. Just ones about dolls and the other is about action figures and gadgets. I really enjoyed the movie alot! The quality is a little good for a movie from the 70's and for a platform that was from years later. And the thing that surprised me was that the 2 movies both have a new toy arrriving. Like ones a super cool buzz lightyear and the other is a french doll which is babette. The rest of the movie was very enjoyable. I don't think anybody relizes this but i just relized that yk theres a raggedy andy? Well do you know woody's owners name? Ya, andy! 2 andy's!
No it’s not, a crime would be like pooping on the ground and then throwing it at unexpecting middle schoolers as they walk home from there 7 hour school shift then there parents would be like what happened and they would be like some guy threw poop on me but because there stupid little children kids there parents wouldn’t believe them and ground them that would be a crime

Blown away reading how much love, effort & attention that went into this restoration. This is the kind of project that I am utterly thankful to all who gave their time & money to make it happen.
I've watched this movie a billion times, and I've always loved it. In a few months, I'm going to be auditioning for theater programs and colleges as Raggedy Andy. I've been practicing the "No Girls Toy" number over and over again for the musical portion of the audition. Super excited and I give so much credit to this film.
I love how Andy is brave because Ann makes him feel safe, and not because he’s a man and “should be” brave. I think he just plays up his “manliness” around the other toys, but is his true self around Ann.
The song where she sing "i'm just a ragdolly" is so soft and cute i love it so much I really didn't knew that this movie existed but i'm so happy youtube recommended it to me
It’s amazing that even though he didn’t necessarily think this movie anything special, he and the animators still put heart and soul into directing it. Clearly with the massive cult following it has garnered it was a good call. Animation doesn’t necessarily have to tell a story that’s any good, it just has to make that story LOOK as good as possible.
As someone with a fascination with avant-garde, unconventional, and/or ahead-of-it's-time, this film is straight up my alley. I just can't get enough of scenes like 53:40-55:34. It is unbelievable that this was hand-animated. Putting the entire background into fluid motion I don't imagine is an easy process. Traditional hand-drawn animation was and is a miracle, but this...THIS is unimaginably mind blowing. You can't rotoscope living dolls and toys, glob monsters, and anything else to the like. Those don't exist at all, but these artists managed to animate these things exactly how they would move. It is as if they rotoscoped footage that existed only in their heads. All I have to say is "wow." Yes. Practically this entire movie is utterly nonsensical and very very weird, but that's part of the odd beauty of it. That is exactly what unconventional art is. True forms of art comfort the disturbed and/or baffled, and disturb and/or baffle the comforted. Yes. There are a few choices that this film makes that are just insufferable to me personally, like those abominable Shining-twins from 5:12-5:28 and 9:43-9:52. Honestly, that whole first nearly half hour play room scene is very hard for me to get through, but it makes you appreciate the moments when the artistic qualities of this film and sheer talent of these artists really shine. If I were to critique this movie, I would say that there are way too many songs. I may be being petty, but it is Raggedy Ann & Andy: A Musical Adventure, not Raggedy Ann & Andy: An Opera Adventure. A lot of these songs simply didn't need to be there, and frankly there are a few that are quite forgettable. It is OK to have a brief running time. It is vital to be equally style and substance, and it is vital to be quality over quantity. I hope this classic's dire lack of mainstream recognition becomes a thing of the past. It is shameful that you can't officially stream this anywhere, and the fact that the only way of officially owning this classic is if you buy one of the two or so listings of VHS copies on eBay. If it weren't for preservers like you, this groundbreaking classic would be tragically qualified as lost media, so thank you so much for giving us a way to see this.
Never thought such a simple premise could give way to such an acid trip of a plot. Though "plot" is probably being generous. Thanks for keeping this fever dream of a movie preserved.

It's time for a live action/CGI remake I think,
It got more play in the early 80s, when the Disney Channel first appeared on cable.
Wow
I was an abused kid in the 90s so I had other films after this to cope with. But if I was in the 70s I'm sure this would be my film too
i hope this never gets taken down so i can watch this with my kid in 20 years

Richard Williams is a great animator and animation director. I really wish he was given the budget and time to really see the whole way through producing his vision for RA&A and The Thief And The Cobbler. These movies both have excellent animation!
I love how the animators are given star-like billing in the opening credits for this movie, telling who animated which characters.
Richard Williams was the animation director of Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
May he rest in peace.
And the opening credits are so cute too! Normally im bored with the credits but with the way they put so much effort in the opening credits alone is worth watching.
He needed to be paired with a writer. He is an amazing animation director but not the best storyteller. Like they did with Who Framed Rodger Rabbit.
This film is 47 years old, and it still makes me feel young
I have only heard of this film through people saying how bizarre it is. My question: How did I not know this was so gorgeous?? Its animated, written and voice-acted with SO much LOVE. Definitely a spectacle in a way more beautiful way than I was expecting
It definitely has bizarre moments but i think thats apart of the charm. Its fitting for toys going on adventures.
I'm in my late 50s and I remember watching this in the theaters in 77 with my two younger sisters and I thought it was lame as a pre teen boy, but over the years I fell in love with the story and score written by the ever so talented house Joe Reposo that I watched it with my two daughters and now loved watching my 3 granddaughters love this.
omg you got to see this IN THEATERS?! Man, I'm jealous.
I'm so glad you got to find this gem so many years later

“No Girls Toy” has to be the SMOOTHEST animation I’ve seen in a while 😮
(Not Andy just going on a rant about how he’s “no girls toy” while doing the most effeminate hip swings)

I'm not sure. Did you see the thief and the cobbler in the last 20 or 15 minutes. If you like smooth animation, you're going to love that, especially when the one-eyes are showing off their boots and weapons - pure euphoria.
I like how the toys act like they are toys
I mean like how when ann and andy fall they fall like how a ragdoll would, since they are ragdolls.
Ya, andy! 2 andy's!
Kind of a shame that this was never re-released for it's such a beauty as well as filled to the brim with catchy tunes.
I know, I'd kill for a remastered DVD or Blu-ray Release!
It's a crime that I didn't know of this movie's existence until now.

Every lonely place I go

Sunshine always follows rain
And a heart that’s sweet and true
Will help us weather the weather

Words to say “I love you true”

How I’ll ever see it through
But candy hearts and paper flowers
Will always keep me close to you
Will always keep me close to you
If the night is gloomy and I’d like to hide
Or a chill goes through me cus I’m scared inside
That’s when I remember all the things you’ve done
Little things that warm me like a morning sun
And I feel so happy, don’t you see?
Cus I start to thinking just how much you mean to me

Raggedy Anne and Andy are such a cute sibling duo, they are so adorable!
I love how Andy is brave because Ann makes him feel safe, and not because he’s a man and “should be” brave. I think he just plays up his “manliness” around the other toys, but is his true self around Ann.
The song where she sing "i'm just a ragdolly" is so soft and cute i love it so much
I really didn't knew that this movie existed but i'm so happy youtube recommended it to me
I heard the descendants of Johnny Gruelle (Raggedy Ann's creator) approved of the film even if Richard Williams didn’t think to highly of the project
All I have to say is "wow."
Yes.
I cannot get over how beautifully animated this is. Raggedy Ann and Andy are so adorable
