Went from A1C of 12.5 down to 5.0 and stayed here over 2 years so far. NO grains, no sugars (includes all fruits except avocados, lemons, raspberries, blackberries), no "vegetable"/seed oils at all. One meal/day. Lost 105 lbs. in the first year. I'm a 66 yo female on O2 - not some young sport!

Congratulations! I am 63 and was pre-diabetic, obese w/high blood pressure 2 years ago. My husband and I took Dr. Berry's advice and changed our diets in January 2021. I lost 90 lbs the first year and don't have high blood pressure anymore. My Grandparents both developed Heart Disease, Type 2 Diabetes and Dementia in their old age. I was headed down the same path until I gave up sugar, grains, and yucky vegetable oils. And, when I added water fasts lasting 3-7 days, my arthritis pain improved dramatically. My right knee stopped swelling up and I could walk up and down stairs without pain.

I have stopped eating highly processed food, eliminated added sugars of all types, and limit my carbs to 25 gram per day. I declined weight loss surgery and semaglutide. I eat two meals a day. I walk four days a week. My diet includes fatty fish, eggs, grass fed beef, cruciferous veggies, cheese, berries, pecans, macadamias, flaxseed, chia, and yogurt. I’ve lost 90 pounds over the past two years and reduced my HbA1c from 6.3 to 5.1. My cholesterol is 149, triglycerides of 43, normal liver enzymes, normal blood pressure, low normal fasting insulin and glucose. I made this change in my 60s. If I can do it, anyone can.

My husband recently had a mini stroke while having uncontrolled type 2 diabetes. He has not been compliant with diet and been on no meds for 3 years.
The dietitian came to see him in hospital and told him to do all the exact opposite things he should do and eat. It was incredibly frustrating , when she left the room I told him you will do the exact opposite of what she just said . Disregard it all .
We went to PCP visit after stroke and I talked briefly to nurse and was saying he was going to reverse this through diet and she immediately said “ oh this can’t be reversed “. This is what people are up against in our “ heath system “. These people are either willfully ignorant or corrupted by big Pharma .
The doctor himself just reorganized his list of 9 meds that had been started in hospital …. NOT ONE WORD about diet was ever mentioned. I was stunned .
Meds are all they care about. Thank God for doctors like Dr Berry and the others out there trying to fight this fight.
    Thank you !

You are so right! Diabetes runs in my family and I have tried without success to help relatives control their blood sugars. They tell me that I am not a doctor and that their doctor told them they need grains and fruit and carbohydrates to survive. Actually, they need to eat carbs, etc. for the doctor, his wife and the drug companies to survive. Odd that I am also diabetic and control my blood sugar by not eating grains, sugar, fruit and carbohydrates...

Exactly , as I said they are willfully ignorant or complicit with big Pharma .
My husband had BS of 330 in ER , later that evening while still in ER they brought him pasta and French bread for dinner .. all while injecting him with insulin to try to bring BS down …. Now that seems like insanity to me , and pure corruption. They have to know what they are doing to people and do not care. It’s sickening .

      Diabetic meds deplete vitamin B1.
All diabetics are deficient in vitamin B1.
My husband is no longer on insulin or any diabetic meds.
He takes 300mg of benfotiamine (the fat soluble form of B1) daily.
He also has the cofactors magnesium Bcomplex choline and zinc.
His latest A1C was 5.9 (prediabetic range).
He has cut carbs a bit but refuses to do keto and carnivore. But I will try to be an example to him.

Almost 2 years ago when my fasting blood sugar hit about 135 and my A1C hit 6.4, My doctor simply handed me a prescription for metformin. I decided I did not want to take another prescription drug and went on the keto diet. About 90 days later my A1C had dropped to 4.6 and my doctor's jaw dropped with it. He was especially surprised when I told him I never took his metformin. I also lost 45 pounds and have kept almost all of that off by just eating a low carb diet.

Same here - I had insulin resistance 9 years ago. A locum GP wanted to start me on metformin as a "proactive measure". I refused that prescription, I knew I could reverse my insulin resistance heading for T2 diabetes with a change of diet. I thought I was eating healthy foods but discovered I was doing it all wrong. I cut out carbs and sugar and within a year I was back to normal.

Agree totally with the advice here and reduced my hba1c from 26 to 5.6. However kept on the metformin and 17 units insulin, which is very low, as no doctor would recommend discontinuing the medications. I can eat most natural carbohydrates eg but not supermarket cheap bread etc, and some studies say nice things about metformin for longevity. I accept keto works for many, but in my experience processed carbohydrates are the main issue.

IMHO-you are never too old to reverse diabetes! I had pre-diabetes for 22 years & doing everything I knew to do to fight against flipping to full T2,following Endocrinologist’s protocol! But that only put me up into full-blown diabetes in ‘18. He railed against me even trying low-carb/keto. Wanted to put me on Meformen/Byetta/Januvia,
I got angry, went home, went through cupboards and frig, went cold turkey-@ age 79 on 7/1/2018.
This not only reversed my T2 w/in weeks, but in six months, I had lost 78 pounds, eating only fresh whole foods on KETO, A1c remains at 5.1. Went back to see the MD and he was shocked, wanted to know “what happened, are you OK? “I said check my labs! He did again& I told him I was so frustrated with “his way“that “I had decided to use common sense, and do it MY way & THIS is what “happened!” (It’s now 5 years later & I’m feeling & doing better than age 60!)

I just wanted to make a slightly different point. We all want quick results and it is very hard to do something without any tangible results, like dropping pounds, developing definable muscles to looking healthy. You can make all these changes and not see results, and not see them for a long time, which may cause some people to get frustrated. I was on LCMPHF diet, 6 months before the scale changed, it has been very, very slow. I had a normal A1C, but felt that it should be more reflective of my actions. It took 5 years for the number to drop! Five years of doing something with no visible changes. A lot of people would just lose hope. If you are struggling, don't fixate on it (that is very hard, when in physical distress) just keep moving forward, it is okay to go slow and get it right or make adjustments on the way. The more your body responds, follow it even if it is at a turtles pace!

As a type 2 diabetic I hear so much about what I shouldn't eat but very little about what I CAN eat, normally. It's nice to get the shorter list and just know what to eat instead of the INSANE long list of what not to. It's like how I teach people about herpetology. There are 42 native species of snakes here in Kansas where I live but only 4 are venomous. I teach that it's not important to know which snakes aren't venomous because you would have to learn all 38 species. Just learn the 4 that ARE venomous. When you see a snake you don't recognize you will automatically know it's non-venomous and not one of the 4 you have to worry about. It's always easier to learn the shorter list. In this case, at a glance you can say, " I don't know what species this is, I have never personally seen it. But what I DO know is that it's harmless. " Food for a diabetic is the same way. Learn the short list. Learn what you CAN have and ignore everything else.

In 1998 I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and my doctor recommended "Diet and Exercise" (did not prescribe medication), however, did not outline which "Diet" or "Exercise". after losing the extra pounds (18 lbs) and exercising regularly the lab work results got better for the doctor although not for me. Long story short, after reaching 8.0 A1C results, I stopped following the recommended diet and researched other methods. Fast-forward to the last 15 years between Intermitting Fast, the right lifestyle my A1C has been between 5.3 to 5.5, weigh between 165 and 159, eat only whole foods (organic grass-fed). Reversal of type 2 diabetes was achievable for me!

Doc thank you so much for all you’ve done to educate people about this diet change. I have been a diabetic for years. Metaformin never did much, eating “healthy” didn’t do much. But after only a few days on the carnivore diet my blood sugar is testing at 5.4 mmol/L after a meal! That’s “normal range”. I can’t even begin to describe how much relief I have right now and hope for my future.
I always thought diabetes was a progressive and incurable death sentence, but it’s not. I can grow old with my family and watch my kids grow up.

I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic at the end of July 2022. I'm from the UK and so was referred to a Diabetic nurse. The information she gave me was that I need to keep my daily intake to 150g of Carbs a day plus exercise at least 30 minutes and so I took up walking. I started this diet and walking journey weighing in at 283lbs to date I'm now weighing in 224lbs and covered over 550Km in walking and at my last check my blood sugar sits around 5.5. I have a further 42lbs to get to my target weight. I will be 60 in October this year
Update: It is now 9 months (April 2023) in to my diet I am now running 6Km at least 5 times a week and walking for the other 2. I'm still on the 150g of Carbs a day and have now lost 84lbs

Thank you for your education on how to cure type 2 diabetics. I had an A1C 0f 8.0 and was prescribed to give myself insulin shots 2 months ago. I’m already on the regular diabetic meds for over 25+ years. I had a heart attack in 2006 and high blood pressure for years; I’m now 69 years old. Your advice has helped me bring down my A1C and my blood pressures in only 6 weeks on trying out your advice in bringing down my numbers. I didn’t follow everything but did what I could do and what works for my life style. I stopped eating all the carbs like rice, breads, pasta, potatoes, etc. I do intermittent fasting every day for the past 4 weeks and only eat one good meal a day with mostly fat, protein and very little carbs from salads and no sugars. Lost 34 pounds from 212 pounds without doing any exercise and my A1C has gone from 8.0 to 6.0. All of my other blood work is all good and well within the ranges where they are supposed to be at. I stopped my blood pressure meds since my blood pressure is well below from what they were. Of course an A1C of 6.0 is better than the 8.0 from where I was at, still going to stay with it until my A1C drops to below 5.7. I also want my weight to get down to 160 to 170 so going to stay with it until I reach these goals. Hopefully after I reach my goals, I’ll be able to manage it and keep my numbers in the good and keep my weight off. I’ve been trying off and on for so many years that I gave up. After finding your videos and really listening to what you are saying it wasn’t as hard as I thought to bring my numbers down. Thank you so much in helping me since I’m tired of all the medications I was taking…

I also started taking the B vitamin you suggested and it too made a huge contribution to my metabolism.

I agree on the carb restrictions; I've been able to reverse mine (I'm 45) and am off meds....low carb and restricting my meat intake really set things in motion for me. One key thing though is physical activity....six days a week I walk at least 2 miles a day. I think this has jumpstarted my insulin sensitivity so now as long as I eat carbs in the morning or for lunch, and have time to burn them off the rest of the day, my fasting sugars when I wake up are in the 80's. For example, if I eat a nice large breakfast of pancakes, regular maple syrup, hashbrowns, eggs, and just coffee (no fruit juices), then walk 3 miles soon after, and then do low or no carbs for the rest of the day, my sugars average round 90-100 for the rest of the day. I only do this on weekends but it helps to keep me from losing my mind from not having things I enjoy LOL. Good luck to all and for me, I was super restrictive in my diet when I first made the effort to reduce my A1C, but I was able to "loosen up" a little as I learned what to eat, and my insulin sensitivity increased.

You can reverse everything. I had very high sugar levels in 2021 and had a stroke. I couldn't walk properly, couldn't focus, very weak. I started exercising, eliminated all the bad foods, cut down on my carbs. Then did cold showers. Did all these everyday since July 2021 (I was hospitalised May 2021). It's now January 2023, I'm still exercising, still doing cold showers. My diet is mostly carnivore, although I sometimes eat bread or rice. I am maintaining my weight at 71 kgs down from a peak of 90 kgs. I am free from all medications apart from the blood thinners. Where I couldn't walk for more than 5 minutes in 2021, I now do 2 hour walks no problem. I can do things I can't do when I was 40. With everyone getting ill, we haven't had an illness in the family. My two boys are exercise mad and very active athletes and does cold showers. It better to start this at an early age, but I have proven that even having a stroke can be reversed. The sacrifice that I do in the morning is worth it.

Mostly from dairy such as whole milk or cottage cheese etc. No grains, no Omega-6 if possible. Only butter, fatty meats and eggs. I eat a lot of cruciferous vegetables as well. Each person's body is different and each person must find what works for them. I will say, fat loss is so important to beating Type 2 Diabetes, at least as I see it. It has been a journey. Thanks to my amazing dietitian & private pay (he’s a no bs Endo who decided to focus on patients over big pharma & he’s cheaper than with insurance!) for supporting me.

I was able to have my first appointment with him within 3 weeks of my diagnosis. As you can see in my original message, I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia. May I ask? Where do you live? I sincerely wish you all the very best on finding the right health care and advice. In my experience, Dr Berry and Dr Jason Fung (do check out his books and videos!) are a fantastic place to start. Good luck, and take good care. Isabelle

      @isabelle fournier,
First of all, thank you for responding, and I do appreciate it. I'm in Toronto and not very far from Dr. Jason Fung.
My family doctor never sent me to an endocrinologist but only prescribed Glucophage pills, which really wasn't doing much for me.
About seven years ago, I began watching many doctors and a Pastor on UA-cam; I've listened to what they all had to say, then made MY OWN DIET, which is helping me a great deal. I'm now considered Pre-diabetic! Currently, my HDL, LDL, and Triglycerides are good; thank God!
These are only some of the doctors that I'm continuing to watch: Dr. Ken Berry, Dr. Allan Mandell, Dr. Sten Ekberg, Dr. Jason Fung, Dr. Eric Berg, and last but not least, Pastor Dennis Pollock, who's a Godsend! There're more channels that I've watched and am continuing to watch, and I'm learning a lot from each! God bless them all🙏
I've tried doing intermittent fasting, but I was always slender and got too skinny, so I stopped; according to Dr. Jason Fung, NOT everyone should do it, and I totally agreed!
I do wish you the best on your journey, and God bless 🙏 🌹

      @isabelle fournier,
My family doctor was of NO help to me; thank God that I've learned and am still learning a lot from those UA-cam videos!
My doctor told me what I had already known: not to use sugar, or eat anything sweet, and do some sort of daily exercise. He then said, "I should eat 3 meals plus 3 snacks." I definitely can't eat so many times daily, and I don't ever snack!
Last year, he told me that I'll have to use insulin very soon because diabetes is a progressive disease; it was then 7.3. I told him that I'll bring it down; I'm watching doctors on UA-cam and reading everyones comments; a lot of people are healing themselves by consuming low carb. He said you must not watch UA-cam because those doctor's don't know what they're saying. When I brought down my HbA1c to 6 within 5 months, he was shocked and asked how I did it. I told him, and he only smiled.
Ok Isabelle, you take care now, and God bless 🙏

I am asymptomatic for low blood sugars unless I get below 45 because my base line is so low. Even in ketosis the body requires a blood glucose of a functioning level. Many people will go comatose or even die with a blood sugar if 21. I had no idea I would respond that way, but I had also eaten very very little all day having only 2 oz of beef and a boiled egg hours earlier. I was too busy and don’t get hungry because I fast 18/6 almost every day. I went to sleep shortly after the marshmallow and woke up a couple of hours later, with a heart rate of 155, my hearing seemed like I was under water, and my vision was distorted. Terrifying! I went for my physical and brought a list of the tests you recommend. My doctor said he would not run those tests because I did not have symptoms. However my HbA1c is 5.6 and that was before and still the same after the most recent test. I did however, not behave over the Christmas holidays and my blood was drawn 12/23 so I had been eating some sugar and other naughty foods and was not in a keto state. I am back to being in ketosis, avoiding sugars, beer etc and eating BBB& E! It's very frustrating not to find doctors that really promote health but push meds to cure things they don't even properly test for. As far as the fasting insulin test he said I didn't need one!!! I'm 70 and I think it probably would NOT hurt in any way to get that test, but since I'm pretty healthy the doctors won't order it. Maybe my endocrinologist will when I see him in a few weeks. Additionally I pretty much try to eat OMAD most days or when I eat 2 I eat breakfast around 1: 30 and dinner no later than 6pm. I measure my ketones daily and manage to keep them between .5 and 4.0 most days and when I fast for longer periods of time they go into the 8.0 to 16 range. I think Common Sense Labs should be mandatory reading for EVERY SINGLE DOCTOR!

I was diagnosed as a T2D three years ago with an A1C in the high 8's. At that time I was 185 pounds. It took me about 12 months to work down to a keto diet and have been on it for the last 2 years. A1C is now in the mid 5's and my weight holds steady at 160 lbs . Over the three years my cholesterol level has continued to rise from under 100 to the mid 200. My GP just recently wanted me to go on a statin and I told that I would not. He sent me to a heart specialist who saw my numbers and said that he would not put me on statins but wanted my off the keto diet. He actually said to me, "You know that Atkins died of a heart attack don't you." Well, yes I did. He wants me on a Mediterranean diet and load up on the whole grains and fruits. He knows I am diabetic and trying to control my glucose with diet. Very frustrating.

Wonder if Dr.Berry here can shed some light on high saturated fat diets allegedly leading to type 2 diabetes as well.
